Quiche

March 20, 2024

French cuisine is celebrated worldwide for its elegance, diversity, and timeless flavors. From rustic countryside meals to refined Parisian dishes, French food offers something for every palate. At the heart of its culinary tradition lies a deep respect for ingredients and a dedication to technique, making even the simplest meals taste extraordinary.

One of the most beloved staples in French cuisine is the quiche, a savory pie that originated in the region of Lorraine. The most famous variation, Quiche Lorraine, combines creamy eggs, rich cream, crisp bacon, and nutty Gruyère cheese, all baked in a buttery pastry crust. Served warm or cold, quiche is a versatile dish enjoyed at brunches, picnics, or casual dinners across France. While the Lorraine version remains classic, many other varieties feature ingredients like spinach, mushrooms, leeks, or smoked salmon, allowing home cooks and chefs alike to experiment with seasonal produce and flavors.

French food isn’t just about quiche, of course. The cuisine is filled with iconic dishes such as coq au vin, beef bourguignon, ratatouille, and soupe à l’oignon (French onion soup). Each dish showcases France’s regional diversity, from the butter-rich recipes of Normandy to the olive oil-based specialties of Provence. Bread and cheese are also central to French meals, with baguettes and brie or camembert frequently making an appearance on the table.

Whether you’re indulging in delicate pastries from a Parisian pâtisserie or savoring a homemade quiche in the countryside, French cuisine captures a sense of comfort and sophistication. It’s not just about feeding the body—it’s about celebrating life, relationships, and the joy of eating well. With a quiche in the oven and a glass of wine in hand, you’re already halfway to experiencing the magic of French cooking.

Quiche? More like quiche-uhhh… It’s just eggs in a crust! Whatever. 1 star.

The measurements are confusing—“1 cup Cheese” but could be 1 cup shredded which is different by weight. I eyeballed it and hope for the best lol.

Delish 😋! I used zucchini instead of peppers and it was great!

    1. 5 stars
Zucchini instead of peppers? That’s so creative! I gotta try that! 🍽️

    2. 2 stars
Zucchini ain’t the same as peppers tho… is that really a good swap? 🤔

  6. User avatar stanton.morar22 says:

Hmmm, not sure about the cream. Seems unhealthy. Can I use milk instead?

    1. 4 stars
Using milk is a great idea if you’re looking for a lighter option! Just keep in mind it might not be as rich and creamy, but it’ll still taste good.

  7. User avatar troy.krajcik11 says:

This quiche was amazing! So creamy and rich. Will definitely make again.

I don’t know why it didn’t set properly… maybe I used too many veggies? 🤔

  9. User avatar tommie.murazik38 says:

I followed the recipe but my quiche came out kinda flat. Maybe my eggs were too old? Not sure, but it was edible.

Sounds delish! I’m gonna try it with feta next time! 🧀

    2. 3 stars
I love quiche! But extra cheese? Isn’t that a bit too much? 🤔

  11. User avatar maxwell.wunsch21 says:

    3 stars
The pie crust was tough. I might use store bought next time. But overall, alright.

  12. User avatar edwin.schaden2023 says:

I tried this but the crust turned out soggy. Maybe I did something wrong? Not sure if I’ll try again.

I don’t bake… but tried this. My oven wasn’t working right and it burnt. Oops.

    1. User avatar Lily Livard says:

      2 stars
Sounds like a disaster! My oven does that too sometimes. Maybe you should get a toaster oven? They’re easier to work with.

    2. User avatar eldon.erdman says:

      4 stars
It’s great that you gave it a shot even with the oven issues! Maybe try again with a bit less time next time? Quiche can be forgiving!

    1. User avatar florence.krajcik1967 says:

      3 stars
Seems like a bit much with those jalapeños. Quiche is supposed to be creamy and mild, right? Anyway, glad your family liked it.

  26. User avatar marvella.larkin says:

I like the simple structure, but 40-45 minutes felt a little short for my oven. I baked closer to 50 and it finally set in the middle.

  27. 3 stars
My friend made this and it looked great, but mine didn’t cook properly. What did I do wrong?

  28. User avatar tissues_with_issues says:

I put in mushrooms and used the leftover ham from last night. Super tasty! Will make again.

  30. 3 stars
I don’t know, it felt too heavy with all that cream and cheese. Maybe less cream next time?

Y’all, I forgot to add salt… it was like eating cardboard. 🤦‍♂️

    1. 3 stars
Cardboard?! Come on! It’s not that bad without salt. Just make sure you don’t forget it next time. 😉

    2. User avatar leora.huels says:

      5 stars
Oh no! I’ve done that before. Salt really makes a difference! Next time, just sprinkle some on when it’s done cooking!

      5 stars
I’m glad you loved it! Asparagus sounds like a delicious twist! 😍

  33. 5 stars
    yummy!!!!!!

    1. User avatar guy.lemke67 says:

      2 stars

I used leftover chicken instead of bacon. Came out great! 🐔

    1. 2 stars
I dunno, chicken in quiche? Seems kinda weird. Bacon’s the classic for a reason, right? 🤔

    2. User avatar mignon.hartmann says:

      5 stars
That’s a clever idea! Using leftover chicken is smart and probably healthier too. I might try that next time! 😊

  36. User avatar robbie.wyman says:

    2 stars
What’s a quiche?! Is that French or somethin? 🤔

    1. User avatar lianne.brakus says:

      5 stars
A quiche is like a savory pie that’s popular in France! It’s filled with eggs and some yummy stuff like cheese and veggies. 😋

  37. User avatar royce.osinski says:

    2 stars
Quiche? More like ‘meh-iche’ if you ask me. Just didn’t impress me at all. I expected more flavor! 😒

  38. User avatar Effrafax of Wug says:

    4 stars
Could someone tell me why it took mine longer than 45 mins? Are ovens different?

  39. 3 stars
Good recipe but confuse it with frittata earlier. They’re not the same!

  40. User avatar roxie.donnelly says:

    5 stars
Y’all, I used shredded chicken instead of bacon and it was lit! 🐔🔥
