Turmeric Latte

June 11, 2025

Turmeric latte, also known as “golden milk,” is a warm, comforting drink made with milk (or plant-based alternatives) and infused with turmeric and other aromatic spices like cinnamon, ginger, and black pepper. This golden-hued beverage has gained worldwide popularity for both its health benefits and delicious taste.

At the heart of this latte is turmeric, a bright yellow spice long used in Ayurvedic and traditional medicine. The key compound in turmeric, curcumin, is known for its powerful anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. Regular consumption of turmeric may help reduce joint pain, support heart health, and improve digestion.

One of the essential ingredients often added to a turmeric latte is black pepper, which contains piperine. Piperine significantly enhances the absorption of curcumin in the body, making this combination not only flavorful but also more effective in delivering health benefits. Ginger and cinnamon bring warmth and depth to the drink, while also aiding digestion and helping regulate blood sugar levels.

To make a basic turmeric latte at home, simply warm your choice of milk (dairy, almond, oat, or coconut) and whisk in ground turmeric, a pinch of black pepper, and other optional spices like cinnamon, ginger, or nutmeg. A touch of honey or maple syrup can be added for sweetness, though the natural flavors are often satisfying on their own.

Not only is turmeric latte a great caffeine-free alternative to your morning coffee or afternoon tea, but it also makes for a soothing nighttime drink. It’s perfect for winding down after a busy day, offering both comfort and nourishment.

Beyond its health perks, this golden milk has become a lifestyle drink, featured in cafés, health blogs, and social media feeds for its stunning color and wellness appeal. Whether you’re embracing it for its health benefits or simply for a cozy cup of something different, the turmeric latte truly earns its reputation as a golden elixir.

Why do people rave about turmeric? It doesn’t do much for me. Just tastes weird.

  2. User avatar Lumberjack says:

    3 stars
This is just okay. I thought it would be more ginger-y. Maybe I’ll add more next time.

  3. User avatar geoWizard says:

Super easy to make and healthy! Plus, turmeric is great for inflammation. 👍

  4. User avatar willa.schneider1987 says:

Yuck! The black pepper ruined it for me. Who puts pepper in a latte??

  5. User avatar janita.steuber54 says:

    3 stars
it was ok i guess. kinda hard to make. wheres the espresso? lmao

    1. 4 stars
I think it was meant to be more of a spiced milk drink than a coffee drink! The espresso isn’t part of it, lol. But you did well trying something new!

  6. 5 stars
Absolutely love this recipe! So tasty and warm. Perfect for chilly mornings.

  7. 3 stars
The honey made it sweet enough, but I think it needs more spice for flavor!

    1. User avatar wilber.dare says:

      5 stars
I totally agree! A bit more spice would really make it pop. Perhaps a dash of nutmeg or cloves too?

  8. User avatar alvaro.spinka70 says:

    2 stars
Not my favorite drink. It tastes kinda like mustard milk. 🤢

  9. User avatar sade.cummings8 says:

    5 stars
I’ve never used turmeric before. It was surprisingly good! Will make again.

  10. 4 stars
Turmeric latte? Never heard of it, but I tried it. Not bad!

  11. User avatar randal.considine16 says:

    4 stars
I love turmeric but I didn’t think it could be this tasty in a drink! Definitely a keeper!

  12. 5 stars
This is such a cozy drink. The pepper with the turmeric makes it taste way more “complete” than I expected—love it with oat milk!

  13. User avatar marisha.hickle says:

    3 stars
Couldn’t get it to “not boil.” I heated a bit too high and it foamed up—still drank it, but texture was weird.

  14. User avatar mathWizard says:

    4 stars
Simple and delicious! My kids love it too. Who knew turmeric could taste so good?!

  15. User avatar floyd.gerlach78 says:

    5 stars
Wow, I never knew a drink could be so healthy and tasty at the same time! Plus, it’s so easy to make.

  16. 3 stars
Cinnamon in tea? Nah, I think that’s bleh. Turmeric is alright, but I’ll stick to my regular coffee.

  17. User avatar joe_banana says:

    4 stars
Pretty good, but I think 1 tsp turmeric is a lot for my taste. Next time I’ll do 3/4 tsp and see.

  18. User avatar mabel.harvey24 says:

    2 stars
Turmeric latte tastes like curry to me 😅 I get the hype but I’ll probably cut the turmeric in half.

  19. User avatar merle.gottlieb34 says:

    1 star
Really disappointed. The honey made it too sweet, and I couldn’t taste the spices. Won’t make again.

    1. 5 stars
I thought it was perfect! Maybe try less honey next time? Just a suggestion!

  20. User avatar Ashlyn Macejkovic Jr. says:

    5 stars
Yum! Perfect for chilly evenings. Honey makes it better, I added a lot more than a tablespoon.

  21. User avatar jung.schowalter says:

    5 stars
I made it with oat milk and used maple syrup instead of honey. Super comforting, not too sweet. Cinnamon and ginger combo is perfect.

  22. 4 stars
Good basic recipe. I was worried the turmeric would taste too earthy, but the cinnamon and honey really balance it. Definitely not too spicy.

    1. 5 stars
Yes!! I had the same fear about turmeric being super earthy, but this combo really works. I used a little extra cinnamon and it tasted cozy, not spicy at all. Thanks for sharing!

  23. User avatar kandice.anderson12 says:

    1 star
Yuck! I didn’t like this at all. Not a fan of turmeric and it tasted grassy.

  24. User avatar dionna.quigley3 says:

    2 stars
Not my cup of tea, the turmeric flavor is too strong. I prefer my lattes with more coffee flavor!

    1. User avatar melida.tromp59 says:

      3 stars
Nah, turmeric is the best! Coffee is just too bitter. We need some healthy vibes in our drinks!

    2. User avatar Slaughterfish says:

      4 stars
I totally get it! Turmeric can be quite overpowering if you’re not used to it. Maybe try a different spice blend next time?

  25. User avatar fannie.klocko says:

    3 stars
I followed it exactly and it turned out… fine? The flavor is pleasant but kind of subtle. I might increase turmeric to 1.5 tsp next time for more punch.

    1. User avatar mindy.smith1959 says:

      5 stars
Totally get that—mine is also more “warm and cozy” than bold. I do 1 1/2 tsp turmeric and it really wakes up the flavor.

  26. 5 stars
    5 stars already. easy peasy

  27. User avatar Deep Thought says:

    2 stars
I tried this but I think my turmeric was old? It turned the milk a weird brown color and didn’t smell right. Otherwise the idea seems fine.

    1. User avatar Spriggan Matron says:

      4 stars
I had that happen once too. I used turmeric that was like super old in my cupboard and it was kinda gross, but the flavor was still “okay-ish.” Try using less and stirring more, maybe your cinnamon/ginger was old too? Also don’t boil it—mine went weird when it simmered too long.

    2. User avatar stefanie.crona says:

      5 stars
Oh yeah, old turmeric can do that—dull smell and that funky brown tint. Next time you might try fresh turmeric (or even bloom it briefly in a tiny bit of hot milk) and make sure it’s not past the expiration date.

  28. User avatar donella.herman46 says:

    4 stars
Made it exactly as written and it was good, but I had to add a little more honey. Also, whisking helps—if you don’t, you’ll get little turmeric clumps.

  29. User avatar columbus.rodriguez31 says:

    5 stars
This turmeric latte is amazing! I add a bit more honey for sweetness and it’s perfect.

  30. User avatar Tom Bombadil says:

    2 stars
I don’t know… I used almond milk and it tasted kinda weird. Maybe my turmeric was old?

  31. 4 stars
Just had this for the first time. Why does it have black pepper?! It was good though.

  32. User avatar Genghis Khan says:

    5 stars
This turmeric latte is a game-changer! I’ve been using it every morning. Super tasty!

    1. 5 stars
I totally agree! I started making this latte too and now it’s my fav morning drink! ☕️

  33. User avatar Humma Kavula says:

    4 stars
Mine turned a little grainy even though I whisked. Maybe my turmeric was old? Still tasted great though.

  34. 5 stars
Made this tonight—so cozy. I used oat milk and fresh-ground ginger. Tastes like a warm hug. Next time I’ll add a tiny pinch of cardamom too!

    1. User avatar Pablo Kessler says:

      3 stars
I tried it but mine ended up kind of bitter… I think I used too much turmeric? Also does the black pepper really matter? Asking cuz my brain keeps saying it tastes weird lol.

    2. User avatar steve_maga says:

      5 stars
Love this! The warm-hug description is spot on. Oat milk + fresh ginger sounds sooo good—going to try that next time.

  35. 3 stars
I tried this but used almond milk instead and it turned out kind of weird. Maybe stick with whole milk?

  36. User avatar tory.stanton says:

    3 stars
I don’t have ground ginger, only fresh. Can I grate it in? Also how much would replace the 1/4 tsp?

  37. User avatar linwood.willms1976 says:

    5 stars
This is actually great! I’m not even a “health drinks” person but the combo is tasty. I used regular milk and it froths a little if you whisk hard enough.

  38. User avatar candida.emmerich83 says:

    3 stars
My bad, but I thought turmeric was just for curry. You put it in drinks?! Who knew? I liked it.

    1. User avatar Wahgo Katta says:

      3 stars
Turmeric in drinks? Sounds kinda weird to me. I only use it for cooking. 🤔

    2. User avatar Questular Rontok says:

      5 stars
Yeah, it’s a game changer! I put turmeric in everything now, even smoothies! 😄

  39. 5 stars
This is the best turmeric latte I’ve ever had! So creamy and flavorful. Yum!

    1. 5 stars
I totally agree! This recipe has changed my mornings. I add a little vanilla too, makes it even better!

    2. User avatar randall.anderson41 says:

      3 stars
Really? I found it a bit too spicy. Seemed like the turmeric overpowered everything. 🤔

  40. User avatar chung.beier says:

    2 stars
I tried making this, but it turned out really weird. Maybe I used too much pepper? Not sure I’ll try again.

  41. User avatar nada.green75 says:

    3 stars
Not gonna lie, it tasted kind of earthy and strong at first. Next time I’ll use less turmeric or maybe fresh ginger? Still—warming and nice.

    1. 5 stars
Totally get that—turmeric can hit “earthy and strong” if you go a full teaspoon. Fresh ginger would be a great swap, and you could also try cutting turmeric to 1/2 tsp and see if it mellows out. Glad it still felt warming!

  42. User avatar Sand-Dial says:

    4 stars
Quick and easy! I substituted agave for honey and it worked just fine. Will add to my morning routine.

  43. User avatar verlene.halvorson94 says:

    2 stars
Not bad, but I messed up and heated it too high—almost boiled. It smelled stronger and the honey didn’t mix as smoothly. Still drinkable though.

    1. User avatar Fermina Zboncak says:

      4 stars
I did this once too… I swear the honey clumped like it was mad at me 😂 But drinkable is a win. What temp were you using?

    2. User avatar noemi.herman8 says:

      4 stars
Ah, that happens! Medium-low and keeping it just “hot” is key—once it starts simmering hard, turmeric can taste/ smell way stronger and honey won’t emulsify as nicely. Next time pull it as soon as you see steam.

  44. User avatar Super Saiyan 2 Vegeta says:

    3 stars
Turmeric? Sounds healthy! Too fancy for me, but I suppose I give it a go. 🙂

    1. User avatar efrain.lehner54 says:

      3 stars
Fancy? It’s just a latte lol. You can skip the pepper if you want. Still good! 🌼

    2. User avatar Lunkwill and Fook says:

      5 stars
You got this! Turmeric’s amazing for you. Can’t wait to hear how it turns out! 😊

  45. 4 stars
I’m not sure about the health claims, but as a drink it’s solid. The pepper at the end really wakes it up.

    1. 5 stars
Yeah totally—health claims are always a stretch, but the pepper really does make the flavor pop. I usually add a tiny extra pinch too.

  46. 5 stars
Wow, these ingredients really work together! Can’t believe I never thought of making a latte with turmeric. A+!

    1. 5 stars
I totally agree! Turmeric in a latte is genius. Can’t wait to try it!

    2. User avatar Storm Atronach says:

      2 stars
I dunno… turmeric in a latte sounds kinda weird to me. I like my lattes plain.

  47. 5 stars
Wow, this sounds cozy. The pinch of black pepper is a nice touch—does it make the turmeric taste less “earthy”?

  48. User avatar Humma Kavula says:

    2 stars
Honestly I didn’t notice the difference from just cinnamon and honey. Maybe I skipped the pepper? lol

    1. 4 stars
Haha totally possible! The black pepper can be subtle, and if you were light on it, it might just taste like cinnamon-honey milk. Next time try a tiny bit more freshly cracked pepper.

  49. User avatar taryn.wuckert says:

    3 stars
Black pepper in a latte is weird to me, not gonna lie. Mine tastes a little medicinal, but I guess that’s the point with turmeric? Still, would drink again if sweeter.

    1. User avatar jordan.cartwright8 says:

      4 stars
Totally get you—black pepper in coffee/latte feels wrong at first. But the little “medicinal” edge is usually the pepper helping the turmeric do its thing. If you add a bit more honey or cinnamon it should mellow out a lot.
