One-Pan Chicken Gnocchi

August 21, 2024

When you’re short on time but still craving something warm and satisfying, one-pan chicken gnocchi is a go-to dish that delivers comfort with minimal cleanup. It’s rich, creamy, and packed with flavor, making it the kind of meal that feels like a treat even on the busiest nights.

This dish brings together tender bites of chicken, pillowy gnocchi, and a creamy sauce that ties everything together in just one skillet. Gnocchi, with its soft, chewy texture, soaks up all the flavor from the pan while adding heartiness that keeps you full. The chicken adds protein and texture, while garlic, herbs, and a splash of cream or broth round out the flavor profile.

One of the best parts about this meal is its simplicity. No boiling separate pots of pasta or juggling a dozen ingredients. You brown the chicken, sauté some aromatics, toss in the gnocchi, pour in your liquid, and let the pan do the work. It all comes together in under 30 minutes, which makes it perfect for a midweek dinner that doesn’t require much thought.

There’s also plenty of room to make it your own. Add spinach for a pop of green, sun-dried tomatoes for sweetness and depth, or mushrooms for an earthy twist. You can keep the sauce light with chicken broth and herbs or go rich with cream and parmesan for a decadent finish.

One-pan chicken gnocchi isn’t just easy and quick. It’s the kind of meal that feels cozy and comforting without being too heavy. It works equally well for family dinners or casual entertaining, and leftovers (if you have any) reheat beautifully the next day.

In a world full of complicated recipes and long ingredient lists, this dish stands out for its simplicity and flavor. It’s proof that you don’t need a lot of time or effort to create something delicious. Just one pan, a few good ingredients, and you’re set.

One word – amazing!! Best dinner idea I’ve had in a while.

  2. 1 star
I read somewhere that you can’t really cook chicken too long. Is that true?

  3. User avatar milan.considine28 says:

    2 stars
It looks good, but is it really one pan? I always end up with a ton of dishes!

  4. User avatar erick.windler7 says:

    4 stars
5/5 would eat again. Also I forgot the garlic for like 30 seconds and it still tasted fine?? Maybe the Parmesan saved me lol.

  5. User avatar thanh.cartwright says:

    3 stars
I tried it with frozen spinach and it was wetter than expected. Still tasted good, but I had to keep simmering and it got a little salty. Maybe thaw and squeeze first?

    1. User avatar bryanna.bogan18 says:

      5 stars
Oh that makes total sense—frozen spinach is basically little ice cubes with attitude 😅. Thawing and squeezing it dry (paper towels work) should fix the watery sauce. Also, simmering longer can concentrate flavors, so it may be where the extra salt snuck in. Next time I’d add parmesan/salt a bit later.

    2. User avatar charissa.bednar77 says:

      2 stars
I dunno… I always use frozen spinach and it turns out fine. Maybe your gnocchi was the problem? If you keep it at a low simmer too long it gets salty and thick anyway. Try not to season until the end, and don’t squeeze too hard—spinach kinda dries out.

  6. User avatar jarrett.rau49 says:

    5 stars
Wow, this was absolutely delicious! The flavors worked perfectly together.

  7. User avatar tissues_with_issues says:

    3 stars
Not bad, but mine came out bland until I added extra salt. Also, I think 1 cup broth felt kinda low; might try 1.5 cups next time.

    1. User avatar robert.schimmel81 says:

      5 stars
Good to know! I was also surprised it felt a bit mild—adding a pinch more salt and some extra pepper fixed it for me too. I’ll try the 1.5 cups broth next time.

    2. User avatar Sherill Christiansen says:

      3 stars
Idk, mine came out fine without messing w/ the salt. Maybe your gnocchi brand or broth was bland? 1 cup always seems plenty to me. I wouldn’t change it unless it’s thickened too fast.

  8. User avatar julieann.fisher2022 says:

    1 star
Looks simple enough, but what if I burn the chicken? 🤔

  9. User avatar Pizpot Gargravarr says:

    3 stars
I didn’t have parmesan cheese, so I used cheddar. It tasted kinda weird, but still edible.

  10. User avatar morgan.ortiz says:

    4 stars
Could you use frozen spinach instead? I never have fresh on hand.

    1. User avatar shon.abshire says:

      5 stars
Yes, frozen spinach works great! Just thaw it and squeeze out the excess water. Enjoy your cooking!

  11. User avatar cornelius.langosh says:

    4 stars
I followed the steps pretty closely, but I think my gnocchi needed a little longer—mine were a bit firm. Still tasted good, though, and the parmesan flavor is legit.

  12. 3 stars
Gnocchi doesn’t take 5 minutes to cook, where do you get your info? 😕 But I still liked it.

  13. User avatar wilber.ledner2025 says:

    4 stars
yummy! can I sub the chicken for tofu? I don’t eat meat but this looks good!

  14. User avatar pauletta.carroll says:

    5 stars
This is ridiculously easy for a weeknight meal. The cream + parmesan makes the sauce so silky, and the gnocchi soak it up perfectly. I used half-and-half and it still turned out great.

  15. User avatar rachell.rosenbaum47 says:

    3 stars
I tried this recipe but didnt really like the gnocchi part. Maybe I’ll just use regular pasta next time.

  16. User avatar I. P. Freely says:

    4 stars
I made this for dinner last night, and my kids loved it. Super easy too!

  17. User avatar Draugr Overlord says:

    3 stars
I used frozen spinach by accident (oops) and had to cook longer to get rid of the extra liquid. Sauce thickened eventually, but it wasn’t as creamy as I expected.

    1. User avatar william.koss57 says:

      5 stars
Frozen spinach will definitely add more water—good save though! Next time, I’d thaw and squeeze it dry (or add it later) so the cream stays thicker.

  18. User avatar clifford.goldner64 says:

    2 stars
I don’t get why people love this. Gnocchi in cream sauce feels heavy and kinda boring. Also my garlic burned fast—like, 10 seconds and it was done. Maybe I’ll try again, but idk.

  19. 5 stars
This was a game changer! So easy and delicious. My kids loved it too!

    1. User avatar william.emard says:

      5 stars
I’m so glad your kids enjoyed it! This recipe is a lifesaver for busy nights!

    2. User avatar kasey.kuhn1984 says:

      3 stars
Sounds fun but I don’t like gnocchi much. Can it be made with pasta instead?

  20. User avatar hyman.gerhold86 says:

    3 stars
Gnocchi? Sounds fancy. I just used spaghetti instead. Was good.

    1. User avatar kecia.kihn29 says:

      4 stars
Spaghetti is fine, but gnocchi has a unique texture! You should try it next time!

  21. User avatar pete.nicolas1996 says:

    4 stars
Super easy and fast. I added some bell peppers I had lying around. Yummy!

    1. User avatar Dominic Vernius says:

      5 stars
That sounds delicious! The bell peppers must add a nice crunch. I’ll have to try that next time!

    2. 2 stars
I dunno… adding bell peppers might mess up the flavor? Gnocchi is perfect as it is.

  22. 1 star
Do Gnocchi float? I thought it was just the spaghetti that float!!

  23. 3 stars
I don’t like spinach, can I leave it out? Or use something else?

    1. User avatar dreama.crooks says:

      4 stars
You could definitely leave out the spinach or maybe try using kale or even broccoli instead! It’s gonna be tasty no matter what!

  24. User avatar alejandra.erdman says:

    4 stars
One pan? Love it! But why does everyone add so much cheese? Just make it less cheesy please.

  25. 3 stars
Mine turned out kinda bland until I added more salt and pepper. Also I used half-and-half and it was thinner than expected, so I simmered longer to thicken—then it got better.

  26. 4 stars
Not gonna lie, the ingredient list is kinda generic. Like how much salt?? Still, it tasted good. My kid went back for seconds, so I guess that counts.

    1. 5 stars
Generic?? It’s literally dinner, not a chemistry lab 😂 My granddad would’ve just eyeballed the salt and called it a day. Also the kid going back for seconds is the real review!

    2. User avatar doyle.barrows says:

      4 stars
Yeah I feel you on the “to taste” salt part 😅 I usually start with like 1/2 tsp, then adjust after the parmesan goes in—otherwise it can get too salty quick.

  27. User avatar damaris.dooley49 says:

    3 stars
My gnocchi fell apart a little… I think I overcooked it while the spinach was wilting. Next time I’ll add gnocchi a little later and keep an eye on it.

  28. User avatar vernon.block says:

    5 stars
    10/10 would eat again!!!

  29. User avatar temple.gibson says:

    5 stars
Yum! Better than what I expected. 🥰

  30. 3 stars
Kinda bland on my end. I’m not sure if my gnocchi needed more salt water or if the parmesan wasn’t salty enough. Adding chili flakes would probably fix it.

  31. User avatar erin.langosh1984 says:

    2 stars
Can you use frozen gnocchi? I saw some at the store but wasn’t sure.

    1. User avatar miranda.mueller53 says:

      5 stars
Yes, you can definitely use frozen gnocchi! Just follow the cooking instructions on the package, and it should turn out great!

  32. User avatar pedro.kuhlman2011 says:

    3 stars
I dunno, it tasted a bit bland to me. Maybe too much cream?

  33. 2 stars
Nice recipe, but I burnt the chicken. Maybe put heat lower?

    1. User avatar Feyd-Rautha Rabban says:

      3 stars
Burnt chicken? Just scrape it off! Still tastes good, right? 😂

    2. User avatar marlys.walker17 says:

      4 stars
I had the same issue! Lower heat really helps. It’s easy to get carried away!

  34. User avatar ShanksOnePiece says:

    4 stars
This is the first time I made gnocchi! Woow so fun! Thx for the recipe!

    1. User avatar nelson.kunde73 says:

      2 stars
Gnocchi is cool and all, but isn’t it just doughy potatoes? Not sure how you find it fun.

    2. User avatar deneen.white6 says:

      5 stars
Congrats on making gnocchi! It’s a blast, isn’t it? Your dish sounds delicious, let me try it too!

  35. User avatar Karin Donnelly says:

    4 stars
Not being a fan of gnocchi, I was skeptical, but this was good! I might be converted.

    1. User avatar Dr. Sydney Kulas says:

      3 stars
Good for you! But, I’m still not convinced about gnocchi. They always feel like little dough balls to me. 🤔

    2. User avatar junior.walsh51 says:

      5 stars
That’s awesome! Gnocchi can be so yummy when done right. Glad you gave it a chance!

  36. User avatar Quickbeam says:

    3 stars
I followed the recipe but my gnocchi were kinda mushy. What did I do wrong?

  37. User avatar donnetta.ziemann39 says:

    3 stars
Not bad, but my gnocchi turned mushy. I think I overcooked it while waiting on the sauce to thicken. Next time I’ll start the gnocchi closer to when the cream goes in.

    1. 5 stars
Ahh that makes sense—gnocchi can go from perfect to mush fast, especially if it sits too long waiting on the sauce. Starting the gnocchi closer to when you add the cream is a great fix. I also sometimes keep it on low and stop right when they float.

  38. User avatar max.bruen66 says:

    2 stars
One pan? More like one mess! 😩 My kitchen was a disaster after this.

    1. User avatar jody.ruecker says:

      4 stars
I think it’s all about how you prep! I always clean as I go. Gnocchi is so good tho! 😋

  39. User avatar Zaphod Beeblebrox says:

    4 stars
Okay but why does it say gnocchi package instructions usually 3-5 min? Mine float at like 2 min lol. I followed step 3 exactly and it was fine, just surprised.

  40. User avatar tissues_with_issues says:

    5 stars
This was so easy and delicious! My family loved it! Definitely a keeper.

    1. 5 stars
So glad to hear it! It’s my go-to recipe now too. 😊

  41. User avatar faustino.mccullough64 says:

    3 stars
My gnocchi got a little mushy… I think I overcooked it by accident. Sauce tasted good, but timing matters a lot. Still edible and the family ate it.

  42. User avatar Raymonde Ebert says:

    4 stars
Pretty solid recipe. I browned the chicken a bit longer than 7 min because mine was thicker, and it came out juicy. Parmesan could be a little more to get that extra “creamy” vibe.

  43. 5 stars
This was so creamy and delicious! My family loved it! 😍

  44. User avatar rickiestmorty says:

    4 stars
So good, but I added some mushrooms and it was even better! Gnocchi perfection.

  45. User avatar angelena.hills1983 says:

So glad to hear that! This recipe has been my go-to for family dinners. It’s super easy and everyone loves it!

    2. User avatar thao.morar says:

      2 stars
Creamy? I thought it was too rich! And don’t get me started on the gnocchi, they were like little dough balls, not my favorite.

  46. User avatar jasper.hackett says:

    4 stars
Yummy and simple! I used leftover chicken. Thanks for the recipe!

    1. User avatar Eddie the Computer says:

      5 stars
I’m so glad to hear you liked it! Leftover chicken is such a great idea. It must’ve added extra flavor!

    2. User avatar mel.cronin1986 says:

      2 stars
I dunno, using leftover chicken seems kinda iffy to me. What if it wasn’t cooked right?

  47. User avatar carlton.ebert says:

    5 stars
Yum! I added some tomatoes and it turned out great! Definitely a keeper.

    1. 5 stars
Sounds delish! Tomatos make everything better. I gotta try adding some next time!

  48. 2 stars
Too much cream for my liking, it made me feel sick. I wish it was lighter.

  49. User avatar van.koepp94 says:

    3 stars
It was okay, but my gnocchi got all mushy. Not sure if I cooked it wrong or what.

  50. User avatar kyle.wolf says:

    2 stars
not sure this wud be good for my diet tho, all that cream?

  51. User avatar collette.toy7 says:

    5 stars
This is definitely a “lazy chef” meal. One pan, minimal effort, restaurant-ish results. I added red pepper flakes and it was 🔥

    1. User avatar alton.grady10 says:

      5 stars
Agree 100%—this is my kind of meal. One pan and still tastes fancy.

  52. User avatar Falmer Shadowmaster says:

    5 stars
So simple and quick! Def gonna make this again.

  53. User avatar Sand-Dial says:

    3 stars
Eh, it was just okay. I prefer my pasta with a tomato sauce.

  54. 3 stars
I think the heavy cream is too rich. I used half cream and half yogurt and it turned out fine.

  55. User avatar ferdinand.wolf2005 says:

    3 stars
It was too creamy for my taste. I think I will cut back on the cream next time.

    1. 4 stars
I get it! Cream can be a bit much. Maybe try half the amount next time? It might help balance the flavors!

  56. 5 stars
Made this tonight—so cozy. Browning the chicken first really adds flavor, and the sauce thickened perfectly with the Parmesan. I used half-and-half and it still worked great.

  57. User avatar pasquale.jenkins98 says:

    4 stars
The only thing I’d change is more seasoning earlier. I salted at the end like suggested and it tasted a bit flat until I added extra pepper and parmesan. Still tasty and comforting!

  58. User avatar alfredo.willms says:

    4 stars
Not bad! I used half-and-half and it was still creamy. I think fresh spinach was the right call—stayed bright. Wouldn’t mind more seasoning though (maybe more pepper).

  59. User avatar frankie.rath says:

    5 stars
This was absolutely delicious! My family loved it, and I loved how easy it was to make. Will definitely make again!

    1. 5 stars
I’m glad to hear that! It really is a simple and quick dish. I’ll have to try it now!

  60. User avatar angelic.beahan1969 says:

    5 stars
This was super comforting and honestly so easy for a weeknight. The cream + parmesan thickened up nicely, and the spinach didn’t get weird. Will make again!

    1. User avatar arianne.rath17 says:

      5 stars
Yes!! Exactly my experience too—cream + parmesan is such a good combo. Glad the spinach stayed normal 😄

    2. User avatar shirly.stoltenberg44 says:

      3 stars
I tried this and it was okay… my sauce didn’t really thicken for me, and I had to simmer longer. Still tasty though!
