Matcha and White Chocolate Muffins

November 6, 2025

Matcha and White Chocolate Muffins bring together earthy green tea and sweet, creamy chocolate in a baked treat that feels modern, indulgent, and beautifully balanced. Their soft, fluffy texture paired with pops of melted white chocolate makes them perfect for breakfast, brunch, or an afternoon pick me up. The combination might sound unexpected at first, but it works with effortless harmony, the gentle bitterness of matcha offsetting the sweetness in every bite.

The magic begins with a good quality matcha powder, the kind that offers a natural vibrant green and a smooth, aromatic flavor. Whisked into the dry ingredients, it gives the batter not only its signature color but also that subtle, grassy undertone that makes matcha desserts so addictive. When combined with vanilla, butter, and just the right amount of sugar, the flavor softens into something comforting, never overpowering.

The addition of white chocolate brings a creamy sweetness that melts into pockets throughout the muffins. Unlike darker chocolates, white chocolate doesn’t compete with matcha, it elevates it, adding a luxurious richness that balances the earthy notes without overwhelming the palate. Chopped into small chunks rather than chips, it spreads unevenly through the muffins, creating those dreamy melted streaks when warm from the oven.

As the batter comes together, thick, silky, and faintly green, the excitement begins even before baking. While the muffins rise, the kitchen fills with a quiet sweetness, buttery, gentle, and calming. Once baked, their tops turn lightly golden, speckled with tiny white chocolate edges that caramelize just slightly for added flavor.

These muffins are light enough to enjoy with a cup of cinnamon tea, or green tea for a double matcha moment, or bold enough to pair with coffee for a striking contrast. They also feel special enough for sharing, wrapped simply in parchment or displayed proudly on a brunch table.

A dusting of powdered sugar or a drizzle of melted white chocolate on top adds a finishing touch, but honestly, they shine just as they are. Matcha and White Chocolate Muffins are the perfect intersection of cozy and elegant, proving that sometimes the best flavors come from the most unexpected pairings.

This recipe needs more sugar, it’s not sweet enough for me.

I tried these but they came out too dry. Maybe I did something wrong?

Maybe you overmixed the batter? That can make muffins super dry. Try mixing just until combined next time!

Can I use milk instead of cream? Anyone has tried that?

Quick question, do I really need to sift the flour? I never do that in other recipes. Confused!

Not a fan, I expected chocolate chip muffins but got matcha instead. Why use matcha?

    1. User avatar luigi.johnston says:

I get that matcha isn’t everyone’s cup of tea (or muffin!). But it adds a unique flavor and pretty color! Maybe give it a try? You might be surprised!

  12. 4 stars
Are these muffins suppose to be green? Mine turned out brownish. Did I do something wrong?

    1. User avatar Lunkwill and Fook says:

      4 stars
No, they should be more green! It sounds like the matcha didn’t mix well. Maybe check your ingredients? Don’t give up though! Next time, make sure you use finely sifted matcha. 😊

Too much matcha for my taste, I think. I prefer more chocolate to balance it out. Not bad, though.
