Grilled Sausage & Veggie Foil Packs

May 14, 2025

Grilled Sausage & Veggie Foil Packs are an easy and delicious way to enjoy a complete meal with minimal cleanup. Perfect for grilling, camping, or even baking in the oven, these foil packs combine savory sausage, colorful vegetables, and a blend of seasonings, all cooked together to create a satisfying, flavorful dish.

To prepare this meal, start by choosing your favorite sausage—whether it’s bratwurst, Italian, or chicken sausage. Cut the sausages into bite-sized pieces and set aside. Next, chop a variety of vegetables, such as bell peppers, onions, zucchini, and potatoes, into small chunks that will cook evenly.

Lay out a sheet of aluminum foil for each serving, and place a portion of sausage and vegetables in the center. Drizzle with olive oil, and sprinkle with your choice of seasonings, such as garlic powder, paprika, salt, pepper, and a touch of dried herbs like thyme or rosemary. If you like a bit of spice, you can add red pepper flakes or a dash of hot sauce.

Fold the foil around the ingredients to create a sealed packet, ensuring that the steam stays inside to cook everything perfectly. Place the foil packs on the grill over medium heat for about 20-25 minutes, turning occasionally, or bake them in the oven at 400°F (200°C) for the same amount of time. The result is a juicy, flavorful combination of tender sausage and perfectly roasted vegetables.

These foil packs are a versatile meal that can be customized to your taste. Feel free to swap in different vegetables, use sweet potatoes instead of regular potatoes, or even add cheese or fresh herbs before serving. The beauty of this recipe is that it’s easy, hands-off, and can be prepared in advance, making it ideal for busy weeknights or casual gatherings.

Grilled Sausage & Veggie Foil Packs are a hearty, flavorful meal that’s as convenient as it is delicious. Perfect for outdoor grilling or cozy indoor dinners, these foil packs are a satisfying way to enjoy sausages and veggies with all the smoky, savory goodness you crave.

Not gonna lie, I’m skeptical about foil on a grill—felt like steaming. But it actually browned the sausage a little so I’m convinced.

    1. 2 stars
Foil on the grill is weird. Wouldn’t the grease just make it steam more? I’ve had packs turn into mush before. Still, if your sausage browned at all that’s promising.

    2. User avatar elsa.rempel says:

      4 stars
Same! I always think foil is gonna turn everything soggy, but 20–25 min seems like just the right amount to actually get some browning. Gonna try this next cookout.

This is such an easy and delicious recipe! I made it for my family and everyone loved it. Definitely a keeper!

  3. 2 stars
This look yum but I don’t like zucchini! Can I just leave it out? Will it mess up the recipe?

    1. User avatar Max Quordlepleen says:

      3 stars
Nah, I don’t think it’s a good idea to skip the zucchini. It adds flavor! Maybe try a different veggie instead?

    2. User avatar dorotha.huel1966 says:

      5 stars
You can totally leave out the zucchini! It won’t ruin the recipe at all. Just add more peppers or onions if you want. Enjoy!

  4. User avatar Dro'marash says:

    5 stars
These foil packs are genius—clean-up was basically nothing and everything cooked evenly. Used mild sausages and it still had tons of flavor. Will make again!

  5. User avatar cleora.kertzmann says:

The instructions say 4 packets but I got like 6 smaller ones. I cooked them same time and it was fine, so I guess adjust as needed.

    1. User avatar whitney.macgyver says:

      5 stars
Honestly that sounds right—foil packs are pretty forgiving. If the total amount is similar, just go by how tender the veggies are and that the sausage is cooked through.

  6. User avatar Gag Halfrunt says:

    5 stars
These foil packs are genius—so little mess and everything comes out juicy. I used chicken sausage and it still worked great.

    1. User avatar ezekiel.mueller9 says:

      5 stars
Totally agree—foil packs are the best for clean-up. I did these with kielbasa and they stayed super juicy too.

    2. User avatar jule.keeling says:

      3 stars
Wait, 20–25 minutes on medium-high seems a little long for sausage slices? I might try it but I’d check earlier… maybe 15-20?

  7. User avatar laronda.bergnaum says:

    4 stars
My packets leaked just a bit and the grill flared up. Still tasted great though—sausages were perfect. Annoying, but not a dealbreaker.

    1. 4 stars
My packets did that too—think it’s because the foil is too thin or you don’t fold tight. I started using thicker foil and it helped a lot. Also, medium-high might be a bit hot depending on your grill.

    2. User avatar yuette.kshlerin52 says:

      5 stars
Ugh, foil leaks are the worst 😩 But glad the sausages still came out perfect! Next time I’ll probably double-crimp the edges a little more so it doesn’t turn into a flare-up party.

  8. User avatar donald.prohaska49 says:

    5 stars
I added mushrooms and a little red pepper flakes. Still cooked in about the same time. Super tasty and my picky eater actually ate the peppers.

  9. 3 stars
Okay but what if you dont have sausage? Can you use chicken or something else? Just curious.

  10. User avatar rene.cummerata2012 says:

Honestly, I was skeptical at first, but these foil packs turned out great! The veggies were cooked perfectly. More recipes like this, please!

These foil packs are such a lifesaver for weeknights. Super easy, and everything cooks evenly—no sad veggies left behind.

  12. User avatar Gail Andrews says:

1 pound sausage is like, not enough for me lol. I added extra peppers and it helped. Flavor’s good, though—just make more.

I didn’t have Italian seasoning so I used Italian dressing seasoning (don’t judge). It came out… interesting. Still ate it all, but next time I’ll do the right herbs 😅

    1. User avatar Michael83 says:

      4 stars
No judgment at all—sometimes you just use what you’ve got. I’m curious though… was it more tangy/salty from the dressing blend?

    2. User avatar Paula Nancy Millstone Jennings says:

      4 stars
Lol “Italian dressing seasoning” is a bold move 😄 But honestly if you ate it all, it probably still slapped. Next time definitely go with the herbs!

  14. 2 stars
umm i tried it but my aluminum foil ripped and it spilled lol. taste was ok anyways, but i dont know if im doing it right

  15. User avatar santos.oconner says:

    3 stars
Okay this was mid. Good idea, but I think it needs a sauce—maybe a balsamic glaze or something at the end.

    1. User avatar hunter.strosin14 says:

      5 stars
Totally agree—these packs could use a finishing sauce. Balsamic glaze would be perfect with the sausage/veg.

  16. User avatar louella.mueller says:

    4 stars
Pretty good! I think 20 minutes is slightly short for zucchini when it’s thicker, so I’d check at 20 and add 5 if needed.

  17. 4 stars
I didn’t have zucchini, so I swapped in mushrooms. Still tasty, though the packet juices were way more intense—good flavor though!

  18. User avatar oPandariaNo says:

    5 stars
Yum yum! I used spicy sausage and added corn. So good!

  19. User avatar Super Saiyan Gohan says:

    3 stars
The packets were delicious but I think I crimped them wrong because some steam leaked and it cooked faster on one side.

    1. User avatar Magrathean sperm whale says:

      4 stars
That sounds like a sealing issue—if the steam leaks out, the packet cooks more like it’s partly exposed. Next time try crimping tighter around the edges (and double-fold if needed).

    2. 5 stars
I’ve done that before 😅 I thought it was “normal” but yeah one side always gets cookier. Maybe your foil sheets were a little small too? Still tasted good though!

  20. 4 stars
I am not a cook but even I made this, pretty simple! 🙂

  21. User avatar michale.quitzon says:

    5 stars
These foil packs were ridiculously easy—minimal cleanup and the veggies came out nice and tender. Smoked sausage + Italian seasoning is a great combo.

    1. User avatar mac.upton90 says:

      5 stars
Totally agree—foil packs are the cheat code for weeknights. I love how the peppers don’t dry out and the sausage stays juicy. I might try adding a splash of balsamic next time for extra flavor.

  22. User avatar jerome.armstrong68 says:

    4 stars
I liked the flavors, but my veggies were a bit too soft by 25 minutes. Next time I’ll start checking at 18-20.

    1. User avatar ali.dicki28 says:

      4 stars
25 min is a long time for zucchini for me. I’d try par-cooking or cutting them a bit bigger. Still sounds tasty though!

    2. User avatar augustine.walker92 says:

      5 stars
Totally agree—mine always get soft around that window. I started checking earlier too, like 18 minutes, and it’s way better.

  23. User avatar Rhoam Bosphoramus Hyrule says:

    5 stars
This recipe is amazing! Super easy and so delicious. My family loved it!

  24. User avatar lulu.gaylord1999 says:

    2 stars
I don’t see why everyone loves this. It was just kinda bland for me. Didn’t hit the spot.

  25. 3 stars
Why foil? Can’t you just cook everything on the grill? Seems unnecessary to me.

  26. User avatar marguerite.ferry says:

    3 stars
The ingredient list is straightforward, but I wish it told how thick to slice the sausages. I guessed and mine were either too thin or too thick—hard to say. Still decent!

  27. User avatar enoch.schultz says:

    2 stars
Wasted a whole sausages! Messy and hard to get the food out of the foil.

  28. User avatar vern.weissnat52 says:

    4 stars
Grilling it to perfection! Just made it and it’s a keeper! Gonna try it again with chicken next time.

  29. User avatar Super Saiyan Vegeta says:

    4 stars
I followed it pretty much exactly, but mine took closer to 30 minutes. The veggies were great though—nice char on the onions. Tasty and filling.

  30. 2 stars
Not bad, but the veggies tasted kinda like plain grilled water. Maybe I under-salted. Also, zucchini cooks way faster than sausage, so it needs timing tweaks.
