Ham and Gruyère Quiche

September 3, 2025

Ham and Gruyère Quiche is a beloved dish that perfectly blends comfort and sophistication. With its buttery, flaky crust and creamy, custard-like filling, this quiche delivers rich flavors in every bite. The combination of savory ham and nutty Gruyère cheese creates a balance of saltiness and depth, making it a favorite for brunches, special gatherings, or even a cozy dinner at home.

One of the reasons this dish is so timeless is its versatility. A quiche can be served warm or at room temperature, making it ideal for entertaining or preparing ahead of time. It also pairs beautifully with light sides like salads or roasted vegetables, creating a well-rounded meal without much effort. The Ham and Gruyère combination, in particular, has French roots, giving this dish a touch of elegance that feels equally suited for a weekend breakfast or a holiday spread.

Beyond its flavor, Ham and Gruyère Quiche is a showcase of texture. The crisp crust contrasts with the smooth, creamy filling, while bits of savory ham and pockets of melted cheese add richness and heartiness. It’s a dish that satisfies without being overly heavy, making it a go-to choice for those who appreciate balanced flavors and presentation.

Quiches like this one also have a nostalgic quality, often reminding us of family gatherings or leisurely Sunday mornings. Yet they feel timeless and endlessly customizable, allowing cooks to swap ingredients or add seasonal vegetables for variety. Ham and Gruyère remain a classic pairing, offering a reliable flavor combination that never disappoints.

Visually, this quiche is as beautiful as it is delicious. Its golden-brown crust and lightly browned cheese topping make it a stunning centerpiece on any table. Whether served in elegant slices at a formal brunch or enjoyed straight from the dish on a casual night in, Ham and Gruyère Quiche offers a comforting yet refined experience.

In essence, this dish is a perfect example of how simple ingredients, when thoughtfully combined, create something extraordinary. It’s a versatile, flavorful, and elegant choice for anyone who appreciates the art of timeless cooking.

Make sure to let it cool a bit, or it’s runny. Learned the hard way!

Ham? Shouldn’t it be turkey? Ham’s bad for you, you know!

  4. 4 stars
I used cheddar instead of gruyere and it was still great. Just a tip! 🙂

  13. User avatar monty.mcclure says:

Quick and easy! Got this done in no time. But I think I burnt the top a bit. Oops! Still tasty tho.

Can I use cheddar instead of Gruyère? I’m not a fan of that type of cheese.

  15. 5 stars
Made this for brunch and it turned out super creamy. The Gruyère flavor is spot-on and the crust stayed nice. Will definitely make again!

    1. 5 stars
Yes!! I’m so glad it came out creamy—Gruyère really does that magic. I love when the crust stays crisp too. 👍

  16. User avatar alejandra.kulas47 says:

    3 stars
My family loved it! But I accidentally used too much salt. Be careful with that!

    1. User avatar marcos.senger69 says:

      5 stars
Glad to hear your family loved it! Salt can be tricky sometimes. Next time, maybe try adding it gradually?

  17. User avatar karen.harvey1983 says:

    5 stars
Soooo good! I added some spinach too. Yum!

  18. User avatar MAGA2024.Trumpster says:

  19. User avatar Dr. Lowell Erdman says:

I’m skeptical about the cream… wouldn’t it be too rich? I might try replacing it with yogurt.

  20. 2 stars
I don’t usually trust quiche recipes without some sort of blind-bake advice. Is the crust going to get soggy? Anyone tried it?

  21. User avatar boris.beier95 says:

    4 stars
I think it needed more salt. Next time I’ll add some herbs too.

    1. User avatar Dan Streetmentioner says:

      5 stars
I totally agree! A little more salt can really make a difference. Herbs would be a great addition too!

    2. 3 stars
More salt? I thought it was perfect! But hey, everyone’s taste is different!

  22. 1 star
This is too fancy for me. I just wanna eat my eggs and ham, not all this.

  23. User avatar angelia.rosenbaum85 says:

    5 stars
Ham and Gruyère, perfect combo! It’s like magic in my mouth!

    1. 5 stars
Absolutely agree! Ham and Gruyère is a match made in heaven! 😋

I don’t know what you’re talking about! Mine was delicious. Maybe you added too many eggs?

Super easy recipe! I used leftover holiday ham, came out great!

    1. User avatar cassi.schuster says:

      5 stars
I love using leftovers! Great idea with the ham 🙂

    2. User avatar clyde.bailey6 says:

      2 stars
I don’t know, isn’t using holiday ham kinda odd? Like, isn’t that a bit old?

  26. 3 stars
I think heavy cream is too much. Whole milk would be better, right?

  27. User avatar scott.ebert96 says:

    4 stars
I just wanna say pie crust from store is a lifesaver!

  28. User avatar rickiestmorty says:

    2 stars
What’s the point of using fancy cheese? I just used whatever I had. Came out fine!

  29. User avatar Gag Halfrunt says:

    1 star
I dunno, doesn’t look like the picture. Mine was all runny. What went wrong? 😕

    1. 4 stars
Maybe you didn’t bake it long enough? It needs to be firm when it comes out, not runny. Give it another shot!

    2. User avatar ahmad.lindgren22 says:

      3 stars
I followed the recipe exactly and mine turned out perfectly! Are you sure you measured everything right? 🤔

  30. User avatar Majikthise says:

    2 stars
Ehh, kinda bland for me. Needed way more pepper or maybe some onion. Quiche is supposed to pop, you know?

  31. User avatar domingo.haag45 says:

    5 stars
This quiche is amazing! Just the right mix of flavors. Will definitely make again!

    1. User avatar rodney.rippin says:

I totally agree! This quiche is a game changer. I added some spinach to mine, and it was even better!

  32. User avatar deandrea.pollich40 says:

    5 stars
This quiche is life! The Gruyère makes all the difference. Yum! 🍽️

  33. User avatar kerry.hirthe37 says:

    2 stars
I don’t know about this one. My kids didn’t like it at all.

    1. User avatar Mr. Prosser says:

      4 stars
I’m sorry your kids didn’t like it! Maybe they just aren’t fans of quiche? You can try adding different veggies or cheese next time!

  34. User avatar rubin.smitham32 says:

    2 stars
Not sure why people love quiche so much—this was fine, but I expected more flavor. Pepper-forward for me.

  35. 3 stars
The salt measurement threw me off a bit. I only did 1/4 tsp because I thought the recipe meant 1/2. Still turned out okay but I’d follow the salt next time.

  36. User avatar horacio.mclaughlin53 says:

    5 stars
5 outta 5. easy and good.

  37. User avatar wilton.jacobson6 says:

    4 stars
I forgot to buy cheese! So I used cheddar, still turned out good.

  38. User avatar kory.price0 says:

    5 stars
    Best quiche ever!!! 🥳

  39. 4 stars
I followed it mostly, but my quiche took closer to 50 minutes to set. Still delicious though—very rich. Next time I’ll bake until the center jiggles less.

    1. 5 stars
Good to know—50 minutes makes sense if the quiche is a bit thicker or your oven runs cool. “Center jiggles less” is a great cue. Glad it was still delicious!

  40. User avatar Orange Dartwing says:

    1 star
QUICHE? What even is that? My friend said it’s like a pie?

    1. User avatar johana.tromp1971 says:

      4 stars
Quiche is like a savory pie! It’s got yummy stuff inside like cheese and ham. You should give it a try!

  41. User avatar grady.keebler56 says:

    2 stars
Hard pass for me. 3 eggs feels too much for a 9-inch, and quiche always comes out soggy for me. Maybe I’m doing something wrong but idk.

  42. User avatar Piter De Vries says:

    4 stars
I used store-bought crust and it still tasted fancy. Next time I’ll add a pinch of nutmeg though.

    1. 3 stars
I don’t think nutmeg is needed… but if you like it, go for it. Also, my crust always turns soggy unless I par-bake it like 5-10 min first.

    2. User avatar MrsLucyG says:

      5 stars
Love this! Store-bought crust is totally legit—quiche is one of those recipes where the filling does most of the work. Nutmeg sounds like a great upgrade.

  43. 5 stars
Egg + cream + cheese = sure win. My family ate it before I even had time to cool it a few minutes 😅

  44. User avatar scottie.schinner says:

    3 stars
Pretty good, but I think 45 minutes might be a little long for my oven—center was slightly overdone. Next time I’ll start checking at 38-40.

  45. User avatar rolando.braun says:

    1 star
Meh. Too eggy for my taste. Would not make again, sorry.

  46. User avatar Horace Wyman says:

    5 stars
Quiche is always a great choice! Gonna make this again for dinner tonight! 🤤

  47. User avatar wellRespected says:

    4 stars
My kids ate it without complaining (rare!). I did a little extra ham and it was gone fast. Honestly, simple wins.

  48. 5 stars
Wow so good omg 😅 I added a pinch more pepper and it was perfect. My family ate it all, like… instantly.

    1. User avatar Falmer Archer says:

      5 stars
Love that! 😄 Glad the extra pepper hit the spot—cheese + ham is already so flavorful. Thanks for sharing!

  49. User avatar Frodo Baggins says:

    5 stars
This came out super creamy and the Gruyère flavor is legit. I used store-bought crust and it still tasted fancy—will make again!

  50. 3 stars
This is delicious but I wish it had more detailed timing like when to cover with foil. My top got browned before the center was perfect.

  51. User avatar nicky.nienow says:

    3 stars
Not sure about the timing—40-45 minutes feels short. My oven runs cold so I probably would need closer to 50-55.

  52. User avatar Miss Rusty Weissnat says:

    3 stars
My crust didn’t crimp well and the edges browned too fast, so I think I needed foil. Still tasted good.

  53. 3 stars
Mine came out a bit salty and I think I measured the salt wrong. Also I used black pepper heavy handed lol. Still tasty.

  54. 3 stars
My only question is why it takes so long to bake? I wanted it sooner!

    1. 4 stars
I know right?! It’s so frustrating to wait that long! Quiches are delicious, but I want it now! 😩

    2. User avatar corrinne.damore73 says:

      5 stars
You could make smaller ones, those bake faster! It’s worth the wait tho, trust me! 😋

  55. 2 stars
I don’t understand why you only use 3 eggs, that’s not enough. I always use at least 5!

    1. User avatar Pasta Fasta says:

      3 stars
Idk, 3 sounds fine to me. Too many eggs might make it too rich! Also, 5 eggs is a lot!

    2. User avatar delmer.bradtke1950 says:

      4 stars
Using 3 eggs gives it a lighter texture! It’s nice to switch things up. 😊

  56. User avatar hazel.kunze says:

    3 stars
I’m not sure about 40-45 minutes—my quiche looked done but the center was still a little jiggly. Still tasty though, just needed more time.

  57. User avatar malka.miller23 says:

    5 stars
I made this for brunch and it was the hit of the party! Everyone loved it! 🥳

    1. User avatar franklyn.weimann42 says:

      5 stars
That’s awesome! Nothing beats a delicious homemade quiche for brunch! 😍

  58. User avatar rayford.glover2001 says:

    3 stars
I followed the steps exactly, but my crust got a little soggy on the bottom. Maybe I should blind bake? Also, my gruyère didn’t melt evenly… could be me.

    1. 5 stars
I’ve had the same soggy-bottom issue—blind bake definitely helps with quiche crust. I’d also try brushing the bottom edge with a little egg wash before adding the filling (or bake it 5–8 min first). As for the Gruyère, grating a little finer and making sure it’s not clumped usually melts more evenly. You’re probably close!

  59. User avatar alfonzo.ortiz says:

    2 stars
375°F for 40-45 mins feels too low to me. I baked mine closer to an hour and it was firmer, so I’m not sure. Maybe ovens vary?

  60. User avatar douglass.corkery17 says:

    3 stars
Could I swap Gruyère for cheddar? I tried one similar before and it turned out oily—maybe that’s just the ham.

    1. 4 stars
Yes, you can swap Gruyère for cheddar. Cheddar can melt a bit differently though—if you find it gets oily, try using a sharp cheddar and don’t go too heavy on the cheese. Also letting it cool a few extra minutes helps it set up instead of looking greasy.

  61. User avatar Daedric Prince says:

    3 stars
Pretty good, but 1/4 tsp salt feels like it might be low depending on how salty your ham is. Next time I’ll taste the filling before baking.

    1. User avatar lupe.gottlieb82 says:

      3 stars
I think 1/2 tsp salt would be too much with ham? But yeah, depends—if your ham is super salty you might need less. I never taste though… just hope for the best 😅

    2. User avatar lavonna.tillman says:

      5 stars
Good point! I usually go light on salt too, since ham can be salty. Tasting before baking is such a smart move.

  62. User avatar tissues_with_issues says:

    3 stars
Gruyère is expensive—maybe next time I’ll mix in some cheddar. Also, 375°F seems low? Mine browned slowly but finished eventually.

  63. User avatar conrad.yundt says:

    3 stars
The quiche set nicely, but mine was a bit salty. I think I accidentally used extra ham (or my salt is strong).

    1. User avatar cassondra.maggio45 says:

      3 stars
Huh mine is never salty with this… are you sure you followed the 1/2 tsp salt? also gruyere can be salty but like… if you used extra ham that’ll do it. I’d add less next time or use low-sodium ham.

    2. User avatar felica.nienow82 says:

      4 stars
Glad it set for you! Quiche is always a little sensitive to ham + cheese salt levels—Gruyère and ham can vary a lot. Next time I’d try reducing the added salt (maybe to 1/4 tsp) and tasting your ham/cheese first.

  64. 5 stars
This sounds like the perfect brunch quiche—ham + Gruyère is such a great combo. I love that it’s pretty straightforward, not fussy at all.

  65. User avatar kim.smith2004 says:

    4 stars
I ran out of Gruyère and swapped in cheddar. It was still tasty, just less fancy-tasting. Recipe still works though!

    1. User avatar reid.heathcote44 says:

      5 stars
Good to know! Cheddar doesn’t sound as “fancy” as Gruyère, but it should melt nicely and still taste great. I’m glad the recipe held up!

  66. 4 stars
Mine puffed up a lot then sank—looked funny but tasted great. I guess that’s normal for quiche? 😅

    1. User avatar maximina.hintz35 says:

      5 stars
Yeah, that’s pretty normal—mine used to puff up like a soufflé and then settle right after it comes out. 😅 As long as the center set, it should taste great.

  67. User avatar emanuel.boyle43 says:

    4 stars
I used store-bought pie crust and it still baked up golden and set properly. The ratio of egg to dairy feels right. Family asked for seconds.

  68. User avatar art.marks14 says:

    4 stars
Gruyère is pricey though… but honestly it’s worth it. Next time I might add a little nutmeg because quiche usually needs something extra.

    1. User avatar damion.renner63 says:

      5 stars
Totally get the Gruyère price 😅 but the flavor payoff is real. Nutmeg’s a great call—just a pinch though, so it doesn’t taste like dessert.

  69. 3 stars
It was good but my kids didn’t eat it. Maybe they just don’t like ham? 🤷‍♀️

  70. User avatar fidel.cummings1950 says:

    5 stars
Not gonna lie, I was skeptical about using both milk and heavy cream, but it actually made the texture really silky. Great comfort food.

  71. User avatar wilmer.jerde87 says:

    4 stars
I’m skeptical about using both milk and heavy cream—felt like it could be too rich, but nope, it was actually great. Still, mine puffed up then settled a lot (normal?).

  72. User avatar booker.crona says:

    5 stars
This came out super creamy and the Gruyère flavor is legit. I used store-bought crust and it still tasted fancy—would make again for brunch.

  73. User avatar Tricia McMillan says:

    3 stars
Very simple instructions, love that. I just wish it said whether to use a preheated baking sheet for the crust—some tips would help.

  74. User avatar raphael.becker59 says:

    5 stars
This turned out so creamy—really nice balance of salty ham and nutty Gruyère. I baked it closer to 45 minutes and the top was perfectly golden.

  75. User avatar walter.kshlerin3 says:

    4 stars
Followed the steps exactly. Mine took closer to 50 minutes to fully set (oven runs hot/cold?), but the golden top was gorgeous and it sliced clean.

  76. User avatar florencio.schaden52 says:

    2 stars
I don’t get the hype—quiche is just egg pie. It was edible, but I’m not tasting anything special besides salty ham.

  77. User avatar sarita.stiedemann12 says:

    4 stars
Could I swap the ham for bacon? Like chopped bacon bits and a little extra fat? I feel like that would slap.

  78. User avatar cyrus.rolfson23 says:

    2 stars
I think mine curdled a little because I whisked too aggressively and let the dairy warm up. The taste was okay, but the texture wasn’t as smooth as I wanted.

  79. User avatar Hilton Jenkins says:

    5 stars
40-45 minutes at 375°F was spot on. The smell while baking was amazing.

    1. User avatar tanisha.borer29 says:

      5 stars
Glad I’m not the only one! That bake time really is perfect—mine was golden and set at about 42 min too. The Gruyère smell had me hovering by the oven 😄

    2. User avatar allie.brakus54 says:

      4 stars
Interesting… I did 40 minutes but my center was still a lil jiggly, so I baked like 10 more. Also I used smoked ham and it was super salty—next time I’ll maybe cut the salt. Still tasty though.

  80. User avatar myrtle.mann says:

    5 stars
Made this for brunch and it came out perfect—golden top, creamy center. Gruyère is definitely the star.

  81. 4 stars
I whisked everything like the recipe says, and it actually came together super easily. Great weeknight-ish meal.

  82. User avatar Miss Judson MacGyver says:

    5 stars
Honestly? This is comfort food. The smell while it bakes is unreal. I’d serve it with salad or even just toast and call it a day.

  83. User avatar carleen.greenfelder2016 says:

    4 stars
I made something similar and the key was not overbaking. 40-45 min at 375°F seems about right—golden top but still a little jiggle in the center.

  84. User avatar crocodile says:

    3 stars
Not bad, but 1/2 cup heavy cream felt like a lot for me. Could be great for brunch lovers, I guess. Texture was fine, seasoning maybe needs less salt?

  85. User avatar wilbur.pollich19 says:

    4 stars
Not bad at all, but I think 1/2 tsp salt might be a bit much depending on how salty your ham is. Next time I’ll taste the custard before baking.

  86. User avatar melanie.anderson1975 says:

So easy and tastes like a café quiche. I added a pinch of nutmeg too (don’t know if that’s allowed lol) and it elevated it a lot.

The instructions are clear and the timing worked for me. I cooled it like it said and slices held together. Perfect breakfast bake.

Yes! I did the same—cooling time helped a lot and the slices didn’t fall apart. Love how simple this is for breakfast.

Glad it worked for you, but 40-45 min was a little too long for my oven—top got too browned. Still tasted great though. Next time I’ll pull it a few minutes earlier.
