Chocolate banana baked oats are a warm, comforting breakfast that feels like a dessert yet is packed with wholesome ingredients. This dish transforms basic oats into a soft, cake-like bake by combining them with ripe bananas, cocoa powder, and a touch of sweetness. The result is a rich, chocolatey flavor balanced by the natural sweetness of the bananas, making it an indulgent yet nourishing start to the day.
The base mixture typically includes blended oats, banana, milk or a dairy-free alternative, cocoa powder, and a little baking powder for lift. The banana not only adds sweetness but also helps bind the batter, giving the baked oats a tender, moist texture. A drizzle of maple syrup or honey can be added for extra flavor, though the ripe banana often provides enough natural sweetness on its own.
Once baked, the oats develop a soft, fluffy consistency that is almost reminiscent of a single-serving cake. They can be enjoyed warm straight from the oven, with toppings like peanut butter, yogurt, fresh fruit, or a sprinkle of chocolate chips for extra indulgence. For those who like a gooey center, baking them just slightly under the recommended time creates a molten, brownie-like middle.
One of the best things about chocolate banana baked oats is how versatile they are. The recipe can be easily adapted with additions such as nuts for crunch, protein powder for an extra boost, or spices like cinnamon for a warm flavor twist. It is also naturally gluten-free when made with certified gluten-free oats and can be made vegan by using plant-based milk and skipping or replacing eggs.
This breakfast is perfect for busy mornings since it can be prepared the night before and baked fresh in the morning, or even baked in advance and reheated. It works well for meal prep, offering a quick grab-and-go option that still feels homemade.
With its combination of rich chocolate flavor, banana sweetness, and satisfying texture, chocolate banana baked oats prove that a healthy breakfast can also be indulgent and deeply satisfying.

Super easy and quick! Great for busy mornings! Will definitely make it again.
Sounds delicious! I’ll try it for breakfast tomorrow. Thanks for sharing!
1: Not my thing. Too mushy. I dont like warm bananas.
Bananas aren’t mushy, they’re creamy! It’s amazing how they blend with oats. Give it another shot!
I get what you mean! The texture can be a bit odd for some. Maybe try it cold or with yogurt?
Yum! But I forgot the baking powder and it still turned out fine. Surprised, tbh!
Absolutely loved this recipe! Perfect for breakfast. I added nuts too and it was yummy!
Delicious! The chocolate chips are a must. This will be my go-to breakfast now.
I dunno. Didn’t turn out as expected. My friend said it looked like dog food. 🙁
It’s ok. I expected it to be more chocolaty. Maybe I should add more cocoa powder.
More chocolaty? I thought it was fine as is. Maybe you just like a lot of chocolate?
I totally agree! I added an extra tablespoon of cocoa and it was way better. Try it! 😊
Banana and chocolate? Sounds weird but surprisingly good! Going to share this with my fam.
Chocolate and banana are a classic! I’m sure your family will love it.
These were so delicious! I added walnuts and it was a hit! Definitely making again.
Wasn’t a fan. I don’t know, just kinda bland? 🌧️
Bland? Really? I mean, it’s just oats and banana. But I guess it’s not for everyone. 🤷♂️
I thought it was great! Maybe you just need to add more chocolate chips next time? 🍫
Nah, not for me. I think oatmeal should be savory. Trying to make it sweet like this just feels wrong.
I was skeptical at first, but this recipe actually works! My kids loved it!
I’m so glad it worked out for you! It’s always nice to find a recipe kids enjoy. 😊
Meh, it was okay. kinda bland. Maybe I didn’t put enough sugar or something.
Can you do this with old bananas? I have a few that are brown and mushy. Will it still taste good?
I dunno, sounds risky. Aren’t overripe bananas gross? I wouldn’t want to spoil it.
Yes, old bananas are perfect for this! They actually add more flavor. Trust me, it’ll be good.
I never thought of baking oats, but this was surprisingly good! Will make again.
Oats in the oven? Sounds weird to me. I prefer mine in a bowl with milk. Not sure if I’ll try it.
I’m glad you liked it! Baked oats are such a great alternative for breakfast. I’m gonna try adding some nuts next time!
Why do people always put bananas in everything?! Just let oats be oats.
Bananas add sweetness and creaminess! Why not?!
Sounds good but too many steps for a lazy cook like me.
I don’t like banana, what can I use instead?
I think you can maybe use yogurt? But I ain’t sure. Bananas are kinda important tho.
You could try using applesauce or pumpkin puree instead of banana. They work pretty well in baking!
It turned out dry and crumbly. Next time I’ll add more milk, I guess.
Too many bananas, I think! Tasted more like banana bread than anything else.
Big NO for me. The texture was weird and I thought it would taste better. Meh.
I loved the texture! It was really creamy and the chocolate flavor was a delight. Maybe you overcooked it?
Honestly, I found it a bit bland too. Maybe it needs more cocoa or sweetener. Not everything works for everyone, I guess.
This was alright, but I think I expected it to be more chocolatey. Might add more cocoa next time.
Yum! Made this for breakfast and it was so filling. I used almond milk and it worked fine.
Sounds delicious! I’ll definitely try it with almond milk too. Thanks for the tip!
Easy recipe, but way too sweet for my taste. Next time, I’ll skip the honey.
Me and my kids gobbled this up! So yummy! Can’t wait to try it with peanut butter next time!
Yummy!! It’s like dessert for breakfast! 🍫🍌
I tried it too and it was sooo good! Perfect way to start the day! 😍
Absolutely loved this recipe! The chocolate and banana combo is to die for! Will make again!
This is the best recipe ever! I love chocolate and bananas together. So easy too!
Omg!!! So simple and delicious, I’m eating this like every day now! 🥳
I didn’t have chocolate chips, so I used raisins instead. It turned out pretty good! 😋
Tried this and it came out super mushy. I dunno what I did wrong. Anyone else have this problem?
Really good, but mine took closer to 30 minutes. Also, I forgot the salt at first and it tasted a little flat—adding it fixed everything.
I think I put too much cocoa powder 🤦♂️, it was very chocolatey.
Turned out fantastic! Used almond milk and it was great! Will definitely make this again!
Made this today and it’s honestly sooo good—like a fudgy oatmeal situation. The banana flavor really comes through and the cocoa balances it perfectly.
I was skeptical about mixing oats and chocolate, but this actually tastes pretty good. I might add more chocolate chips next time!
I don’t have cocoa powder, can I use chocolate syrup instead? Will it still taste good?
OMG, this is like a hug in a bowl! I’m gonna try it with peanut butter next time.
Simple and delicious. Perfect for breakfast. Yum!
Wow! This recipe is amazing! I never thought oatmeal could taste this good. My kids loved it too!
Banana chocolate heaven!! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I don’t like oats much, but this smelled amazing while baking. Texture was better than regular oatmeal, so I actually ate the whole serving.
Mine kinda turned out dry, like I baked it too long (I think). Next time I’m gonna use a little less oats or more milk. Still edible though!
I did everything right but it totally fell apart. What did I do wrong?!
It was too mushy for my liking. I expected something firmer. 🤔
I understand how you feel! It can be a bit mushy if you leave it in the oven for not long enough. Maybe next time try baking it a bit more?
how many calories in this? trying to eat healthy! 1000?? 😂
Absolutely loved this recipe! So easy and delicious 😋
Super easy to make. My kids helped me, and they had a blast! Thanks!
I dunno, seems too easy. Is it really that good? I usually like more complicated recipes.
That sounds awesome! I love it when my kids help in the kitchen too. Can’t wait to try this recipe!
Super simple! My kids loved it. Just what I needed for breakfast.
This recipe sounds yummy! I’m gonna try it with some strawberries too! 🍓
Is it really that easy? I thought baked oats needed more work… 🤔
I substituted almond milk and it turned out great! Thanks for sharing!
Pretty good, but I found it a bit too cocoa-forward? Next time I’ll use a little less cocoa or add the honey earlier. Also I added extra milk because it got thick fast.
Can I use water instead of milk? Don’t have milk at home right now. Would it work?
Pretty easy recipe, but 25 minutes felt a little short for my ramekin. I baked another 7 minutes and then it was perfect.
This is delicious but I’m confused—25 minutes at 350°F wasn’t enough in my oven. The center was still wet. Still tasted awesome.
So glad you still liked it! I think ovens can vary a lot—mine takes closer to ~30–35 minutes if the ramekin is deeper or the batter is thicker. I’d check for a set edge + not-jiggly center (a toothpick should come out mostly clean). You can also loosely tent with foil if the top browns too fast.
I added peanut butter instead of honey, and it turned out great! Will make again!
Tried this last night—so cozy. The banana + cocoa combo is legit, and the texture was perfect after 25 minutes.
Yummy! I added some walnuts and it turned out great! Will definitely make this again.
Too healthy for my taste 😅
Quick and tasty. 10/10 would eat again.
Eh… 25 minutes and it was still gooey in the middle. I guess my ramekin was bigger than expected. Still tasty though.
It was ok, but I think it needed more sugar. I used honey but it still wasn’t sweet enough. Anyone else feel that way?
Mine came out kind of dry on top—probably because my baking dish was wider and cooked faster. Still tasted chocolatey and decent.
Pretty good and easy, but mine took closer to 30-35 minutes to set. Also I’d suggest stirring a little longer; I had a few cocoa lumps at first.
Nice! Mine also runs a bit longer than the timer says—mine’s usually closer to 30 min. Stirring longer definitely helped with the cocoa lumps for me too.
I followed it and it still wouldn’t set in 25 min. Maybe my banana wasn’t ripe enough? Also cocoa lumps?? I tried whisking harder after, but next time I’ll add the cocoa first with the milk. Tastes good though.
Tried this for breakfast and it honestly tastes like a dessert but still feels “healthy-ish.” The banana + cocoa combo is perfect. I used oat milk and added a bit more chocolate chips—no regrets.
Not convinced about the honey/maple part being optional. The batter felt like it needed more sweetness to me, but maybe my bananas weren’t ripe enough.
Baked oats? Never heard of it. Do you even bake oats? I’m confused, but it looked nice on IG.
This is AMAZING! So chocolatey and filling. My family loved it!
Not gonna lie, I don’t love oatmeal baked. Texture is weird to me. The flavor was ok though—banana and chocolate works.
Mine came out a bit dense, I think I mashed the banana too thick. Next time I’ll stir a little more and maybe add an extra tablespoon of milk.
mine was also dense.. maybe the oats need more liquid? i just mashed banana like—idk—kinda chunky and it turned out ok. i think your extra tablespoon milk will help tho.
I’ve had that happen too—banana can get *real* pasty if it’s mashed super smooth and thick. Adding a splash more milk makes sense. Did you let it bake the full 25 minutes, or did you pull it early?
I didn’t have honey, so I used maple syrup and a splash more milk. Still turned out great, not too sweet (which I like).
I made this for breakfast and it turned out way better than I expected—nice chocolate flavor and the banana keeps it naturally sweet. Mine needed like 28 minutes though.
Meh. I thought it would taste different. It was just mushy oats with a hint of chocolate.
“1/2 cup milk of choice” is vague—mine was thicker and it didn’t seem like enough liquid. I ended up adding like 1-2 extra tablespoons and it turned out fine.
Tried this and it actually came out super fudgy in the middle—love how the banana keeps it naturally sweet. I used oat milk and added a bit more cocoa, still great!
Idk why but i got it to taste like banana bread oatmeal… good i guess? But 350F seems too hot maybe, it browned fast.
Not bad, but I think it was too sweet for my taste. I might reduce the honey next time.
This is too simple to be good. I mean, mashed bananas and oats? Seems like a health food scam.
I followed it exactly, but it came out kinda bitter from the cocoa. Maybe my cocoa powder was stronger? I added more honey after baking and that helped.
Wow this tastes like dessert but somehow feels healthy? My kid asked for seconds lol.
Meh. Tastes like dessert oatmeal. Not bad but I expected more chocolate. Next time I’ll use dark cocoa and maybe a spoon of peanut butter.
I was skeptical because “banana baked oats” sometimes taste like mush, but this set nicely. I added a few extra chocolate chips and it was a win.
Totally get the mush worry—banana + oats can be hit or miss. Glad yours set up nicely though, and extra chips is always the right move 😄
This is just oatmeal, what’s the hype? Don’t get why people like it so much.
Oatmeal isn’t just boring! Chocolate and bananas make everything better! 🍌🍫
Not gonna lie I forgot the baking powder… it still tasted okay but didn’t rise/firm up much. Worth following the steps though.
Ahh same thing happened to me once—no baking powder and it ends up more like pudding than baked oats. Still tasty though! Following the steps really does make a difference.
Wait you forgot baking powder and it tasted okay?? I feel like it should be flat and sad. Maybe your banana was extra ripe so it kinda works anyway. Still, I’ll measure it next time 😅
This is pretty solid, but I wish it had more precise timing like “until the middle stops wobbling” lol. Ovens vary, you know?
If it wobbles a little, it’s not done? Mine looks done when it smells chocolatey 😂 I always just bake till it’s kinda firm, not gooey.
Totally agree—“about 25 minutes” is so oven-dependent. Mine took closer to 30, and I was nervous lol. “No wobble in the middle” would’ve saved me.
Can confirm it’s a good “lazy breakfast.” I used oat milk and extra cocoa because I’m extra like that. Would make again.
Not gonna lie, I was skeptical about baked oats with just banana for sweetness. But it works! Next time I’ll add walnuts or a pinch of cinnamon.
Banana baked oats with cocoa sounds great, but “milk of choice” is vague. I used almond milk and it baked fine, yet the texture was kinda gummy. Maybe I underbaked?
Yeah “milk of choice” is pretty vague—oat bakes can get gummy if the milk amount/ type is a bit off. I’d start with a non-dairy milk that isn’t super watery (oat/almond usually work), and bake closer to 27–30 min until the center looks set. Also make sure your banana is fully mashed (no big chunks). Hope that helps!
The instructions are simple but 25 minutes is a lie—mine took closer to 35 to get golden. Still yummy though.
Honestly I messed up and used baking soda instead of baking powder… it was kind of bitter and didn’t rise. Learn from me.
Oh no—thanks for sharing! Baking soda instead of baking powder could definitely make it taste bitter and not rise. Glad it still turned into a learning moment though—next time just use the 1/4 tsp baking powder and it should behave better.
I did that once too 😅 but I thought baking soda and powder were basically the same? Mine was also like… weird bitter. I guess the ratios matter. Appreciate you warning people.
I’m skeptical about baking oats with banana only, but it actually worked. Cocoa flavor is strong, which is nice.
This is my new go-to. Simple ingredients, minimal effort, and it fills me up. The top got that slightly golden look like the recipe said.
That golden top is the best part 😂 I love how you can tell it’s done without overthinking it. Definitely trying this!
The sweetness was just right with the honey. If you use very sweet chocolate chips though, maybe skip the honey/maple syrup.
