Simply Guacamole

May 7, 2026

Simply Guacamole is a fresh, flavorful dip that highlights the natural creaminess of ripe avocados with just a few simple ingredients. Known for its vibrant taste and smooth texture, guacamole has become a favorite around the world, perfect for snacks, gatherings, or as a topping for a variety of dishes.

At the center of this recipe are ripe avocados, which provide the rich and buttery texture that makes guacamole so satisfying. When mashed, they create a creamy base that pairs beautifully with fresh ingredients like lime juice, onions, tomatoes, and cilantro. The lime juice not only adds brightness but also balances the richness of the avocado with a refreshing citrus flavor.

One of the best things about Simply Guacamole is its simplicity. The ingredients are minimal, allowing the natural flavors to stand out without becoming overly complicated. A touch of salt enhances the freshness, while optional additions like jalapeños or garlic can introduce extra heat and depth.

Guacamole is incredibly versatile and works well in many settings. It’s commonly served with tortilla chips as a classic appetizer, but it also pairs beautifully with tacos, grilled meats, burritos, sandwiches, or salads. Its creamy texture and fresh flavor make it an easy addition to both casual meals and festive gatherings.

Another reason for guacamole’s popularity is its nutritional value. Avocados are rich in healthy fats, fiber, and important vitamins, making this dip both delicious and nourishing. Because it requires no cooking, it can be prepared quickly, making it ideal for busy days or last-minute entertaining.

The freshness of guacamole is what truly makes it special. It’s best enjoyed shortly after preparation, when the flavors are bright and the texture is perfectly smooth. Every bite offers a combination of creamy avocado, citrusy lime, and crisp vegetables that feels refreshing and satisfying.

Simply Guacamole proves that simple ingredients can create incredible flavor. Whether served as a dip, spread, or topping, it’s a timeless recipe that brings freshness, comfort, and versatility to the table.

Yum yum!! I put in too much lime juice but it’s still great!

How can you call this guacamole when there’s no tomato?? I’m confused.

My family loved it! A bit chunky tho. I think I should mash more next time.

I don’t understand why people love guacamole. Avocados are just mushy green stuff. No thanks.

  6. 1 star
Guacamole is gross. Why mix all that stuff? Just eat avocados whole.

  7. User avatar alfredia.mann says:

    4 stars
Really good recipe! I added a bit of jalapeño for some heat and it was amazing! 🌶️

    1. User avatar rich.landlord says:

      2 stars
Why did you add jalapeño? That’s not how it’s supposed to be made. Just stick to the basics!

    2. User avatar Sumiko Beier says:

      5 stars
Jalapeño sounds like a great twist! I might try that next time. Thanks for the tip!

Cilantro is what makes it fresh! You must be missing out.

  12. User avatar reba.becker says:

Not gonna lie, I don’t get the hype. Avocado is already good, but this version feels kinda plain. Maybe my limes were weak?

What is wrong with people? Store bought guacamole is just as good! Why go through all this trouble?

  14. User avatar Grunthos the Flatulent says:

Yum! Added some jalapeños for a kick. Perfect for the party!

Turned out awesome! I used extra lime and it really brightened everything. The no-fuss method is perfect for weeknights.

    1. User avatar joey.donnelly22 says:

      2 stars
I tried this but my avocado was kinda meh and it tasted bland. Maybe I didn’t use enough lime? Also I think I mashed too much… it was like paste 😅

    2. User avatar pam.schamberger1963 says:

      5 stars
Yes!! Extra lime really does make it pop. Glad the no-fuss method worked for you—guac should be simple on weeknights.

  16. User avatar stormy.block says:

    5 stars
This guacamole is amazing! So easy to make and tastes fresh. Will definitely make again!

  17. User avatar marcelino.nienow says:

I’m not a huge avocado fan but my friends loved it! They said it was the best guacamole they’ve ever had.

  18. 4 stars
Not gonna lie, 1/2 tsp salt feels like a lot if your avocados are bland. I added gradually and ended up loving it though.

  19. User avatar joesph.trantow12 says:

    2 stars
Eh, it was kinda flat for me. Next time I’ll add jalapeño or garlic. Also my cilantro was from a sad little bunch so idk.

    1. User avatar Dan Deline says:

      4 stars
Mine came out good but I used a LOT more cilantro, like… basically a whole handful 😅. Also I didn’t wait—served right away. If your cilantro was sad, that might be it.

    2. User avatar kurt.reichel says:

      4 stars
Yeah I get that—guac can taste pretty “meh” without enough punch. I always add a bit more lime and salt, and a clove of garlic if I’m feeling it. Jalapeño sounds perfect too.

  20. User avatar alfredo.hane73 says:

    3 stars
Pretty good, but I think it needs more salt than 1/2 tsp. Also more cilantro next time. Otherwise blandsville.

  21. User avatar rachel.sauer says:

    4 stars
I followed it exactly and it came out great. I used bottled lime once though and it was a letdown—fresh lime juice really matters.

  22. User avatar sylvie.gerlach63 says:

    2 stars
Okay but my avocados weren’t “ripe” lol 😅 so it was more like avocado paste than guacamole. Recipe seems solid though.

  23. User avatar micah.kunze1989 says:

    3 stars
I used lemon juice instead of lime, and it was still alright. Not sure if I did it right though.

  24. 5 stars
Great for tacos! I put it on nachos and it didn’t go brown fast. Love the lime/cilantro combo.

  25. User avatar Lintilla says:

    4 stars
So simple and quick! I just threw everything in a blender and it turned out great.

  26. User avatar jackson.jenkins43 says:

    3 stars
I tried to mash with a fork and it took forever, so I might use a potato masher next time. Still good, just time-consuming.

  27. User avatar toney.parker13 says:

    3 stars
Cilantro tastes like soap to me! Can I skip it? Will it still be good?

  28. User avatar MrsLucyG says:

    2 stars
This is nonsense, what happened to real guacamole? No tomatoes? No garlic?

    1. User avatar tyler.stiedemann says:

      3 stars
But all recepies differ, this one is more traditional. I think it sounds fresh, doesn’t have to have garlic!

    2. User avatar Larry Marks says:

      5 stars
I agree! Guacamole without garlic and tomatoes is just sad. Those are essential for flavor!

  29. User avatar liz.weimann60 says:

    3 stars
Not sure about the red onion amount… I found it kind of sharp. Next time I’ll dice finer or soak the onion a minute, but the lime is great.

  30. User avatar william.towne67 says:

    5 stars
This is exactly the kind of guac I like—simple, fresh, and not trying too hard. The lime and onion really make it pop.

  31. 2 stars
i dont have avocados can i use something else? like peas?

    1. User avatar Lorina Brakus says:

      3 stars
You can try using peas, but it won’t be guacamole. It’s more like pea mash then! 😂

  32. User avatar marlene.stoltenberg29 says:

    4 stars
Pretty good overall, but I think 1/2 tsp salt might be low for me. I ended up adding more after tasting—still worth it.

  33. User avatar Ronnie Corwin III says:

    5 stars
This is exactly how I make guac—simple, fresh, and not weirdly sweet like some recipes. The lime + onion combo really pops. 10/10 with tortilla chips.

    1. User avatar Prince of Hyrule says:

      5 stars
Yes!! Exactly—fresh and savory is the way. I also love the bite from the red onion.

  34. User avatar drew.kozey49 says:

    5 stars
This is exactly the simple, fresh guac I like. The lime + onion balance is spot on, and mashing with a fork keeps it the right texture.

  35. User avatar oPandariaNo says:

    5 stars
This is basically the same guac my aunt makes. Nothing fancy, but it’s delicious and tastes fresh. Five stars for sure.

    1. User avatar nilda.okon16 says:

      5 stars
Haha love that! My aunt’s version is super similar too—fresh, no fuss, and it actually tastes like avocados. Five stars back at you 😄

  36. User avatar federico.zemlak says:

    3 stars
Mine turned brown pretty quickly even though I covered it. Maybe I didn’t press plastic wrap directly onto the surface—still tasted good though, so I’m not mad.

  37. User avatar leonora.feil says:

    4 stars
Love that it says serve immediately. I tried “later” and it browned fast, but that’s on me. Still delicious and easy.

  38. User avatar amparo.simonis says:

    3 stars
I followed it and… I don’t know. My avocado were super ripe so maybe that helped? Either way it’s kinda yummy but not mind-blowing.

  39. 5 stars
This is so simple and honestly tastes fresh every time. The lime + onion combo is perfect. I mash it a bit chunky—way better texture.

    1. User avatar Allena Wiza says:

      5 stars
Totally agree—lime + onion makes it taste so bright. I also mash it a little chunky instead of smooth. Perfect texture!

    2. User avatar gonzalo.hoeger88 says:

      3 stars
Wait—could you add sour cream or Greek yogurt? I like mine less sharp than lime. Still sounds good tho.

  40. User avatar christine.nitzsche says:

    4 stars
Pretty good, but I think 1/2 tsp salt is a bit much if your avocados are already salty (mine were kind of bland). Next time I’ll start with less and adjust.

  41. 4 stars
So easy. I used what I had—no cilantro—and it still tasted great. I definitely recommend using ripe avocados though.

  42. User avatar ALTplusF4 says:

    5 stars
I did the mash with a fork and it stayed chunky like I wanted. Red onion gives a nice bite—my whole family snacked it gone.

    1. User avatar Gabriella says:

      5 stars
That sounds perfect—fork mash chunky guac is the best. The red onion bite is underrated, too. 🌶️

  43. User avatar Cave Bear says:

    3 stars
Kinda weird to me to use only cilantro and not garlic. I added a clove and it instantly tasted more “guac-y” to me.

    1. User avatar randall.tromp3 says:

      5 stars
Totally get that—cilantro-only is a choice. A little garlic can definitely push it more toward the classic “guac” vibe some people expect. Love that you experimented!

    2. User avatar ArabianNights says:

      4 stars
I actually disagree a bit—garlic isn’t traditional in my version of guac. Cilantro + lime + salt + onion is the whole thing for me. But hey, if you liked the flavor, that’s what matters.

  44. User avatar dean.greenholt says:

    2 stars
Could’ve used more lime juice. Mine tasted like avocado with seasonings instead of actual guacamole, if you know what I mean.

    1. User avatar mechelle.skiles48 says:

      4 stars
Totally get what you mean—lime is the “bright” part of guac. If yours was more avocado-y than tangy, it usually needs either more lime juice or a little extra salt/pepper to wake it up.

  45. 4 stars
Not gonna lie, I don’t love cilantro. I subbed parsley and it still worked pretty well. Texture was perfect for spreading.

    1. User avatar Sand-Dial says:

      4 stars
Huh, I always use cilantro but maybe I should try parsley. I once used too much lime and it tasted like salad… so now I’m scared 😂 Still, “perfect for spreading” sounds good.

    2. User avatar hsiu.frami11 says:

      5 stars
Totally get it—cilantro isn’t for everyone. Parsley is a clever swap, and I love that you nailed the texture too. Guac really is all about that mash + balance of acid and salt.

  46. User avatar jeremiah.heaney says:

    4 stars
I’m skeptical about serving immediately because I’m always late and I just cover it in the fridge. Surprisingly it still looked decent after an hour.

    1. User avatar clay.hermann1999 says:

      5 stars
Honestly, I do the same thing—make it, then get distracted. Still ends up pretty decent if it’s covered tight. The lime helps a lot, for sure.

    2. User avatar Feyd-Rautha Rabban says:

      2 stars
Nah I don’t trust it. If you put guac in the fridge it browns, like guaranteed. Maybe after an hour it’s okay but tomorrow it’ll be gross, no offense 😅

  47. 4 stars
Solid recipe, but I wish it mentioned how to keep it from browning a bit longer. I covered it and it still browned after a while.

  48. 4 stars
Avocados are expensive where I live, so I was skeptical, but this actually came out tasty. Still, “serve immediately” is hard when you’re hosting 😅

    1. 5 stars
Right?? I was like “expensive avocado” in my head too, but the lime + onion really makes it shine. Hosting is the hardest part—covering helps, but I always end up rushing 😅

    2. User avatar Slartibartfast says:

      3 stars
I get the skepticism, but mine browned anyway even when I covered it. Maybe my avocados werent ripe enough or I used too much onion. Tastes good tho, just not pretty.

  49. User avatar Snow Bear says:

    2 stars
umm… why no garlic or jalapeño?? i feel like it needs somethin. also i used wrong onion and it tasted weird but maybe my fault lol

  50. User avatar mitzie.abshire says:

    3 stars
Not bad at all, but mine got a little watery—maybe my onion was too wet? Still ate it all though.

  51. User avatar reba.jaskolski says:

    2 stars
I tried mashing but my fork didn’t work lol. Also 1/2 tsp salt felt like too much? Still ate it.

  52. User avatar renetta.ledner63 says:

    5 stars
This is exactly the simple vibe I want—fresh, limey, and not trying too hard. The red onion + cilantro combo is perfect. I mash it a little chunky and it’s great with chips.

  53. User avatar calvin.bartell says:

    3 stars
Okay, guacamole needs cumin or it’s not guacamole. That’s just my opinion though. Flavor is good but feels a little plain.

  54. User avatar alejandro.cormier1967 says:

    2 stars
Cover tightly? I did, but it still browned after like an hour. Maybe my wrap wasn’t sealing. Tastes fine though.

    1. User avatar irving.rath says:

      3 stars
Idk maybe your avocados werent as ripe? I usually just keep a little pit in there and it stays green longer. Also try more lime and salt. Cover tight = no gaps, but foil works better than wrap sometimes.

    2. 4 stars
Yeah, guac oxidation is sneaky—covering helps, but if there’s any air getting in (like a loose wrap), it browns anyway. Press the plastic right onto the surface and try to keep it as flat as possible. Lime also helps, but it can’t fully stop it.

  55. User avatar woodrow.grady1997 says:

    5 stars
Honestly, this is the best guac recipe I’ve found. The ratios are simple and it comes out creamy without needing yogurt or mayo.

  56. User avatar Pasta Fasta says:

    5 stars
Made it for tacos and it was gone in minutes. I used less onion because I’m not a huge fan, still turned out great.

  57. User avatar Draugr Death Overlord says:

    3 stars
Meh… it tasted good but mine turned brown way faster than the instructions said. I covered it tight too. Maybe my avocados weren’t actually ripe enough.

    1. User avatar kristan.dach5 says:

      4 stars
That’s frustrating! Avocado browning can happen fast even when covered. I’ve found pressing plastic wrap directly onto the surface helps more than just “covering tight.” Also make sure the avocados are truly ripe—underripe ones can go weird/brown quicker.

    2. User avatar cedrick.wiegand55 says:

      3 stars
Mine did that too but I think it’s the onion/cilantro. Next time I’ll add them after mashing and keep it covered with lime right on top. Maybe you didn’t mash enough? Idk 😅

  58. User avatar susie.bahringer92 says:

    2 stars
This tastes like plain avocado with lemon juice lol. I know it’s simple, but I needed more flavor—maybe garlic or jalapeño would help.

  59. User avatar jerrell.nolan says:

    5 stars
This is so simple but tastes fresh—mine turned out creamy and bright. I skipped the fork and just smashed with a potato masher, perfect texture.

  60. User avatar genaro.streich1996 says:

    5 stars
    So easy. So good!

  61. 5 stars
I used a little extra cilantro and it tasted way brighter. Also, pressing plastic wrap right on top really helps with the browning like they said.

  62. User avatar wilfred.hoeger says:

    2 stars
I don’t trust “fork mashing” lol. Mine ended up kinda chunky, and I had to mash it way more. Also, cilantro isn’t for everyone.

  63. 3 stars
I used bottled lime juice (yeah I know) and it tasted okay but not as lively. Fresh cilantro mattered though.

    1. User avatar joe_banana says:

      4 stars
Bottled lime juice works in a pinch, but I totally get what you mean by “not as lively.” Fresh cilantro really does make it pop—this recipe sounds spot on.

  64. User avatar chester.paucek says:

    1 star
One tip: don’t use pepper—makes it bitter. Also avocados aren’t supposed to be ripe when you mash them… I read that somewhere.

  65. User avatar Frankie and Benjy says:

    4 stars
Mine turned out a bit chunky even after mashing—maybe I had firmer avocados? Still delicious though, just not as smooth as I wanted.

  66. 4 stars
I followed the steps exactly and it’s super fresh tasting. I usually make guac with cumin but this version is lighter and I liked it.

  67. 4 stars
Pretty solid base recipe. I think 1/2 tsp salt might be low depending on your avocados and cilantro strength, but adjusting in step 4 is easy. Texture was creamy.

  68. User avatar adolfo.kassulke says:

    4 stars
I used less onion because I’m not a fan, and it still worked. The lime really makes it pop. Will make again for sure.

  69. User avatar nathaniel.greenfelder2004 says:

    3 stars
My guac browned a lot even though I covered it tight. Maybe I didn’t press the wrap right on top. Still tasty, just not pretty.

    1. User avatar chase.funk1963 says:

      4 stars
Ugh, that’s so frustrating—guac browns fast. If the wrap wasn’t making perfect contact, oxygen still gets in. Next time try pressing the plastic directly onto the surface (no air pockets) and keep it as cold as possible until you eat it.

    2. 3 stars
Mine browns too even when I “cover tight,” lol. I started adding a little extra lime juice and keeping the bowl in the fridge. It still turns a bit, but not as much. Also mixing right before serving helps.

  70. User avatar eliseo.kohler says:

    5 stars
So easy it feels cheating. Also I added a little chili powder and it bumped it to “restaurant vibes” for me.

    1. 5 stars
Right?? I was like “wait, that’s it?” The chili powder idea is genius though—definitely doing that next time.

  71. User avatar bert.schimmel1996 says:

    2 stars
Not sure about the cilantro amount—too much for my taste. Also I accidentally used lemon instead of lime once and it was… fine? I wouldn’t do it again.

  72. User avatar shizuko.pollich99 says:

    5 stars
Made this for taco night and it was gone in minutes. The lime + cilantro combo is spot on, and the onion gave it a nice bite.

    1. 5 stars
Made this for taco night too—totally agree, the lime + cilantro is perfect. Mine didn’t last long either 😄

    2. User avatar cedric.bergstrom51 says:

      4 stars
I liked it, but I think you need more salt. Also I used lemon instead of lime once and it was kinda flat… just my taste.

  73. User avatar shan.barrows53 says:

    3 stars
I followed the steps exactly, but mine came out kinda bland. I think my avocados weren’t very ripe? Added extra lime and salt and it fixed it.

  74. 5 stars
Made it for taco night and it disappeared fast. I used a touch more lime because my avocados were a little bland, but that’s probably normal. Tastes super bright.

  75. User avatar suspiciousCommentator says:

    4 stars
I used a little less salt and added a pinch of cumin, but the base recipe is solid. Texture was perfect after mashing. Next time I’ll dice the onion even finer.

    1. User avatar issac.rosenbaum23 says:

      5 stars
Nice! Less salt + a pinch of cumin sounds like a fun twist. Glad the texture came out perfect after mashing—dicing the onion finer should make it even more even in every bite.

  76. User avatar karolyn.grant47 says:

    4 stars
I added a clove of garlic and it was way better. Also i think black pepper is optional? Either way, would make again.
