This traditional Middle Eastern dip is made primarily from roasted red peppers, walnuts, and olive oil, creating a rich and creamy texture that is perfect for dipping or spreading on bread, crackers, or veggies.
The base of Muhammara is roasted red peppers, which are blended into a smooth, velvety paste. The roasted peppers bring a deep, smoky flavor, while the walnuts add richness and a slight earthy taste. A dash of lemon juice, garlic, and a touch of chili or paprika provide the perfect balance of acidity, sweetness, and heat. This combination results in a dip that’s complex yet easy to make, with layers of flavor that are sure to impress your taste buds.
What makes Muhammara so appealing is its versatility. It can be served as a dip at parties or gatherings, used as a topping for grilled meats, or even enjoyed as a spread on sandwiches and wraps. The texture is thick enough to spread but smooth enough to serve as a dip, making it the ideal accompaniment for pita bread, crunchy veggies, or even roasted potatoes.
This dip is not only delicious but also a healthier alternative to many other spreads. It’s packed with antioxidants from the red peppers, healthy fats from the walnuts, and vitamins from the olive oil, making it both flavorful and nutritious. Plus, it’s naturally vegan and gluten-free, making it accessible to a wide variety of dietary preferences.
Muhammara is a fantastic way to introduce bold Middle Eastern flavors into your meals. Its smoky richness and balanced flavors make it a perfect addition to any appetizer spread or a simple snack to enjoy at home.

Really really good! I added some extra garlic and it turned out great!
Glad you liked it! Extra garlic sounds delicious! I’ll have to try that next time.
I don’t get the hype! Just sounds like a fancy dip for bread. Meh.
But it’s so much more than just a dip! The flavors are incredible, you really need to give it a try!
Why not just use peanuts? To each their own, I guess. Not for me.
Awesome! Perfect with pita chips! My new go-to party dip!
Looks interesting, but do you really need all those fancy ingredients? Can’t I skip the pomegranate?
Nah, you gotta have the pomegranate molasses for it to be legit! Don’t skimp on the good stuff!
You can totally skip the pomegranate! It just adds a unique flavor, but if you don’t have it, it should still taste good. Just adjust some spices maybe?
5 stars! Perfect with pita bread. My kids even ate it! Who knew they liked walnuts?
Muhammara is life! So healthy and filled with goodness. Will keep making!
YOLO, tried it but not my jam. Too complex or whatever lol.
Easy to make! Just make sure to roast those peppers well!
This recipe is amazing! I love the flavors. Can’t wait to make it again!
WAYYYYY too spicy for my kids! I think I overdid the red pepper flakes.
I didn’t have pomegranate molasses so I used ketchup. It was a big mistake. 😂
Ketchup? Really? That’s a bold choice. 😂 But I hope you learned for next time! Pomegranate molasses is way better!
Tried it but it came out too sour. Maybe I added too much lemon? Not sure I’ll try again.
This was amazing! Never tasted anything like it. So rich and flavorful!
I’m glad you loved it! I also had the same reaction when I first tried it. It’s super easy to make too!
Sounds good, but I don’t know about putting walnuts in there… nuts can be weird in dips. Where’s the cheese?
I tried making this but forgot the molasses 😩. Came out weird. Make sure to use it!
Forgeting things is just part of cooking, huh? Still, you could’ve used honey or something as a substitute.
Oh no! Molasses is key! 🤦♀️ I’ve also done that and it just doesn’t taste the same. Hope you try again!
This is the best recipe ever! I can’t believe how delicious the muhammara turned out. Thank you!
Yum!!! Needed more garlic tho. Love it!
Looks nice but I ain’t got no pomegranate molasses… what can I use instead?
You can use a mix of vinegar and sugar for a similar tangy taste! Hope that helps!
What even is muhammara? Sounds fancy, but is it gonna impress my in-laws?
Yum! But I added too many red pepper flakes and set my mouth on fire! 🔥
I thought this was some kind of carne dish. Guess I’m not so good with names.
Don’t worry! The name can be tricky. Muhammara is actually a dip, not carne. It’s delish!
Is this really a recipe? Sounds more like a fancy salad, lol. Where’s the meat?
My family didn’t like it. Too nutty, I guess. I will stick to hummus.
I love the blend of flavors! The pomegranate molasses really gives it that umph!
Delish!!! So easy to make and it shocked my friends at the party. Will make again!
Was skeptical about using walnuts, but it worked! Just a little too much lemon for my taste.
I’m glad you gave it a shot! Walnuts really bring a great texture to the dish. Maybe try less lemon next time?
Lemon? Too much? Nah. It adds zest! But, everyone’s taste is different. Guess it’s about personal preference!
