Not gonna lie, I was skeptical about the marshmallows on top—thought they’d just melt into nothing. They didn’t! They set into this chewy layer. Also the prep is easy, no fancy steps.
My kids LOVED the ghost part. The icing gel lines actually stayed put, and the marshmallows toasted nicely as they cooled. I might add a little extra vanilla next time, because I like things bold.
Super easy and the ingredients are basic. I love recipes that don’t need weird stuff. Mine puffed a bit too much, but that’s probably user error, not the recipe 😅
I think 1 cup flour is too much? Mine turned out thick and firm, like a dense chocolate cake bar. Could be my cocoa was old, but I’d adjust next time.
Had a hard time getting the marshmallows to stick, but still tasted great! Next time, maybe I’ll use smaller ones.
Not gonna lie, I was nervous about “toothpick comes out clean” since brownies can be fudgy. Mine came out slightly underdone but that ended up being the best batch. Great flavor!
My eggs weren’t really “room temp” and the batter got a little weird/curdly… like, not horrible, but not super smooth. Ghost faces were fun anyway. Tastes okay.
Yummy! 😋 Can’t wait for Halloween to make again!
I only had mini marshmallows so I used those and it was a mess… kinda sweet brownie bits everywhere. Still tasty, just not the same vibe.
Aw man 😭 I bet the mini ones basically melted into the batter—still sounds yummy though. Next time maybe use regular large marshmallows or push minis on top right at the end so they keep their shape!
These brownies are spooktacular! The marshmallows really make it fun for my kids.
I followed the recipe but my brownies turned out really dry. Idk what went wrong. 😕
Dry brownies? Must’ve missed somethin’. I don’t understand how that happens. 🤔
Oh no! Sometimes if you bake for too long or use too much flour it can make them dry. Did you check them earlier than the time listed?
Wow, my guests loved these! The chocolate flavor is intense, and the ghosts are cute!
I was skeptical about “toothpick clean” since brownies can go over fast, but 22 minutes was spot on for me. Sweet though—next time I might reduce sugar just a touch.
Wow so good!! I might make them for Thanksgiving. Brownies and marshmallows are the best combo.
These were a hit at the Halloween party! Everyone loved them. 🎃
1/2 cup cocoa powder seems low? Mine didn’t taste very chocolatey. Also my eggs weren’t room temp and batter got a little lumpy. Maybe I messed it up but I wouldn’t make again.
Super easy and fun! The ghosts turned out great. Will make again for Halloween!
One star because it says clean toothpick but mine was totally wet, then it sunk in the middle. I don’t know if my oven runs hot or what, but the instructions for doneness could be clearer. Might try again with a shorter bake.
Ugh, that’s frustrating. I’ve noticed at 350°F different ovens swing a lot—next time I’d bake closer to 20 minutes and check early. Also, if the toothpick hits melted marshmallow in the center, it won’t come out “clean” even if the brownies are set.
Not the best I’ve tried, and they turned out too gooey. I think I baked them too long?
Ghost marshmallows? What a weird combo! Not sure about this one. :/
Too much sugar! I felt like I was eating pure candy. Not my fav, but the kids liked them, I guess.
Yeah, I get what you mean! I thought they were super sweet too. But I guess kids love that! Maybe I’ll cut down on sugar next time.
Pretty tasty, but my toothpick never really came out “clean” at 25 min—more like gooey crumbs. Still ended up great though. Ghost faces were cute, even if mine looked a little derpy 😂
Aw that’s still a win though 😄 Toothpick not “clean” at 25 min happens—could be that center stays fudgy. Did you use regular cocoa or Dutch-process? Mine always needs a couple extra minutes if it’s more crumbly.
I dunno, “clean” at 25 min is kinda impossible with brownies lol. Next time try not baking past 25 and just chill them longer—gooey crumbs sounds like underbaked in the best way. Ghosts look adorable too!
Why 12 marshmallows? I had a hard time spacing them on the whole tray. Also my black gel looked gray for some reason. Still tasted like a brownie, just not as “ghostly” as expected.
Not sure about the “toothpick clean” thing—mine was more fudgy than that after 20 minutes. I think “mostly set but not wet” would be better instructions.
These tasted funny… maybe too much sugar?? idk.
Wow, these brownies are amazing! So fudgy and yummy! Will make again!
Booooo! Should have added more cocoa. Little weak on flavor honestly.
I followed it exactly and everything tasted kind of dry? Like, chalky flour flavor. Maybe I overmixed? I stirred until just combined though.
I used hot marshmallows and they collapsed a bit when I placed them. Maybe let the brownies rest 5 minutes before adding? Flavor was still chocolatey. Ghost faces were kinda scary in a good way.
350°F is fine but 20-25 mins isn’t enough for my pan size—mine stayed too soft in the middle. I added like 8 more minutes and then it fixed.
SO GOOD!!! Im not even a dessert person but these changed my life! 😍
These brownies were DELICIOUS!!! Want to eat them all day long!!!
Oh wow, I gotta try these! They sound amazing! 😍
I dont bake often, but these were easy to make. I just need to work on the decoration, mine look silly.
I don’t understand why people use marshmallows for brownies, they should just be regular brownies.
The texture is great, but I’m confused by “place a marshmallow on top of each brownie.” After baking, the brownies aren’t cut yet—do you add marshmallows after slicing or just dot them on the whole slab?
Ghosts don’t really look like this. Should be purple not black lol. Still tasted okay tho.
My marshmallows kinda sank into the brownies instead of sitting on top. Any idea if I should wait until they’re partially cooled? Flavor was still good, just not the look I wanted.
That usually happens if the brownies are still too hot when you add the marshmallows—on contact they soften and sink. I’d wait a few minutes after pulling them from the oven (like until they’re warm but not steaming). Also, make sure you’re putting marshmallows on top of the *baked* surface, not stirring them in.
Maybe your brownies were underbaked? If they’re too gooey in the middle, the marshmallows can just dive. Next time try baking the full 25 min, then let them cool a bit before placing marshmallows. Also, I think 12 marshmallows for 9×13 is kinda a lot—crowding might help them melt together and sink. Just my guess.
These are spooky-cute and seriously fudgy! The marshmallows on top were perfect, and the black icing gel made them look like actual ghosts. Will definitely bake again for Halloween.
These were way more fun than I expected—ghost faces came out adorable. Texture is fudgy and the marshmallows get this perfect soft top. Will make again for Halloween!
I followed it pretty closely but mine took closer to 28 minutes. Still turned out great though—rich cocoa flavor and the marshmallows melt slightly into the top.
Looks good but where do you get the black icing? Can’t find it anywhere around here. 😩
I don’t understand why marshmallows on brownies? Sounds gross.
I think marshmallows add a fun texture! It’s like a surprise in every bite. Give it a try!
The black icing gel made my ghosts look more like angry smudges than ghosts 😂 Still tasted great. Could use a little more cocoa for my personal preference.
Yum! My mom loved them too. Gonna make them for Thanksgiving as well!
I didn’t have black icing, so I used chocolate syrup. Still turned out awosme!!
The instructions say “immediately place a marshmallow on top of each brownie,” but you can’t really place each one until it’s sliced. I just put marshmallows on right after baking and it worked, but that step wording confused me.
Totally get why that line is confusing. “Each brownie” makes it sound like you have individual portions already, but the point is really just to melt the marshmallows a bit while the bars are still hot—then you slice after cooling. Your method sounds right.
So good! But way too much sugar. I felt like my teeth were gonna fall out! 🍭
Am I crazy or should it be 12 marshmallows per brownie?? I only did one each and ended up with leftover marshmallows lol. Anyway, 10/10 flavor, 0/10 math.
Why 12 large marshmallows for a full 9×13? I thought there would be more coverage. Also the icing gel is pricey—ghosts were hard to get crisp.
Kinda mid. The ingredient list is simple but I found them too sweet for me, even with normal cocoa. Maybe less sugar or more cocoa would balance it.
I tried to make these, but my marshmallows burned 😭. What’s a girl to do?
I followed the instructions but my marshmallows melted into goo! What did I do wrong? Maybe less time in the oven?
Maybe you left them in too long or the oven was too hot? Try lowering the temp next time!
These were weirdly adorable AND delicious. The marshmallows kinda poofed into the top layer—perfect ghost vibes. I did bake mine closer to 25 min just to be safe.
Yummy ghosts! My kids loved decorating them, although they made a mess. 😂
Sounds so fun! Can’t wait to try this with my kids! 😂
Messy or not, brownies are always a win! But can you really call marshmellows ghosts? 🤔
The marshmallows didn’t melt like I thought they would. What’s the secret? 🤔
I followed the recipe exactly and somehow my brownies were dry. Maybe my eggs weren’t room temp? Or I waited too long to bake. The marshmallows still tasted good, just not the right texture overall.
Why you putting black icing on marshmallows? That sounds weird. 🤨
I actually think the black icing is a cool touch! It adds some fun to the brownies. Can’t wait to try it! 🎃
Good idea but my “toothpick comes out clean” never happened… it was more like fudgy crumbs. Still delicious though. I think next time I’ll start checking at 18 minutes. Ghost faces looked adorable even if my drawing skills are meh.
umm i tried it but the marshmallows melted off… i think i waited too long after baking? idk lol. flavor was good
Ahhh yeah—those step 8 marshmallows are super time-sensitive 😅 If they bake too long or the pan sits warm too long after coming out, they’ll melt right off. I’d try adding them immediately once the brownies are out, then let them cool fully before drawing the ghosts.
These came out fudgy and seriously fun. The marshmallows on top make them look like they’re straight out of Halloween—kids were obsessed. I did bake closer to 23 minutes and it was perfect.
These were amazing! My kids loved making the ghost faces. Perfect for Halloween!
I made this for my niece’s party & it was a disaster! They stuck to the pan, and the icing was messy. Boo!
Not gonna lie, my marshmallows melted into the brownies more than I expected. Still tasted amazing, just not as ghosty. Might be my oven runs hot.
I can’t believe how good these taste! Perfect Halloween treat. 👻
Brownies + marshmallows = LIFE. I added some nuts too, delish!!
Love this recipe! It’s a fun twist on regular brownies for Halloween. I added some chocolate chunks too!
Sounds awesome! I love adding my own twist to recipes too. Gotta try those chocolate chunks next time!
Yummy! My kids had a blast decorating these with the icing. Easy to make too. Will definitely make again.
Lol black ghost brownies??? I don’t know, I feel like the icing gel is kinda unnecessary. Browniesss good but the design part took me way too long.
Honestly I get that—mine was tasty but the ghost faces took forever 😅 The icing gel part is cute though, like it makes it “fun” even if you just want brownies.
These came out SO fudgy. The marshmallows on top were perfect and the ghost faces made them instantly adorable. I used a toothpick to “drag” the icing a bit and it looked great.
These brownies were a hit at the Halloween party! Everyone loved the ghostly marshmallows. Spooky and delicious!
Sounds awesome! I gotta try this for my party too. Those ghost marshmallows are super cute! 🎃
Brownies are just fudge that takes more time. I’m skeptical of this recipe. Can’t be that simple.
I think the simplicity is the beauty of this recipe! Sometimes less is more. I’m gonna give it a try!
Fudge is way different! Brownies are just denser. But sure, I’m curious about these marshmallow toppings!
Yummy!!! Even my husband ate them and he is picky.
Yum. 5 stars.
I tried it but my toothpick didn’t come out clean until like 30 min… also I used mini marshmallows and they kinda melted into the top. Still tasty though. Would make again!
Yesss—those ghost faces are so cute 😍 Marshmallow on top after baking is the move. Mine came out fudgy!
So easy, and they look like Halloween at first glance. I did extra ghosts because the icing gel was fun, not because I had self-control 😂
Soooooo easy to make! I’ll definitely recommend this. 🎃
Looks awesome, but why use marshmallows? Seems like a weird combo with brownies 🤔.
I made these for a Halloween party and they were a hit! 🎉 So delicious and super fun to decorate!
Pretty easy and fun to make with kids. The ingredient list is simple, and the icing gel is way more effective than I thought it would be.
Totally agree! I wasn’t expecting the black icing gel to actually *show up* well on the marshmallows. Made these with my little cousins and they had a blast drawing the ghosts 😂
This recipe is wack. My brownies came out dry, even after checking the time.
LOL, my kids couldn’t stop laughing at their ghost brownies! Fun idea for Halloween baking.
This is dumb. Marshmallows on brownies? Who even wants that?
Kinda basic. Just brownies with marshmallow, but they looked cute I suppose.
These are super cute! Perfect for Halloween. My kids loved them!!
1 cup butter and 2 cups sugar seems like a lot (way too sweet?) but somehow it balances. I had to cut smaller squares because they’re rich. Still, the kids asked for seconds. So… yeah.
I substituted the butter for oil and it turned out great! Still rich and chocolaty.
Not gonna lie, I expected them to be more “ghosty” and less just normal brownies with marshmallows 😅 Still delicious though. The black icing gel is key.
Worked pretty well, though I think 20 minutes was a bit short for my oven. I baked closer to 25 and the texture was nicer. Also, black gel is essential—without it they look kinda plain.
My icing gel ran a bit and the ghosts looked more like spooky blobs. Flavor was still awesome. I think I needed less pressure when drawing.
That’s actually a win—spooky blobs still sound adorable 😄 Black gel pressure is huge though. I’ll try less next time!
The flavor is great, but 12 marshmallows on a 9×13 seems like a lot of marshmallow per bite. I’d maybe use fewer or cut them in half.
My ghost faces looked like angry potato people 😂 but the brownie part was legit. I’d make these again for sure.
Too sweet for me lol. Still, the ghosts looked awesome.
Not gonna lie, I was skeptical about “toothpick comes out clean” with 20-25 mins—mine looked fudgy at 22 but set up nicely after cooling. Followed the instructions and it worked.
I swear I’ve baked those times before and mine was still raw 😅. Did you use a 9×13 and not accidentally a smaller pan? Also I pulled mine at 20 and it was fudgy—maybe that’s the whole point?
Same! I always doubt the “toothpick clean” thing with gooey brownies, but mine came out perfect around 24 mins too. Cooling made the texture set exactly how I wanted.
The flavor is rich—cocoa + butter + sugar is a win. But 12 marshmallows for a 9×13 pan feels like not enough coverage; I ran out halfway through placing them. Could be just my marshmallow size though.
Totally agree—cocoa + butter + sugar is the whole point. For the marshmallows though… 12 on a 9×13 is suuuuper light. I’d do at least double or just press them all over the top like a layer.
Maybe I’m misunderstanding, but Step 8 says “on top of each brownie” and that pan usually makes way more than 12 brownies 😅. I think the recipe needs clarification (like how many you’re cutting).
Weird combo but eh, they were okay. Not bad.
I tried this and the marshmallows didn’t “set” nicely—more like they slid and melted into the top. Flavor was good but presentation was meh.
Marshmallows not setting “meh” is exactly what I’d expect if you put them on immediately 😅 Like they’re basically melting into brownie soup. Also 20-25 minutes might be too short—maybe bake until the toothpick is *more* clean? Not trying to be rude, just saying. Did you grease the pan well too?
Happened to me too—my marshmallows kind of sank/melted into the top. I think it’s because they’re added right after baking while everything is still pretty hot. Next time, I’ll wait like 10-15 min after pulling them, or I’ll bake a tiny bit longer so the surface sets more. Flavor-wise though, yeah, these are legit!
Not sure about the black icing… it freaked my kids out 😬.
Black icing gel is cool but I wish it said where to put the ghost. Also my marshmallows were “burnt” even though I waited—maybe they’re not large? Meh.
I totally get what you mean about the icing gel part—Step 9 says draw the ghost faces, but it doesn’t spell out exactly *where* on the marshmallow to place the features. I do it right in the center of the flattened side so they look like little faces. Also “burnt” marshmallows can happen if the brownies were still too hot when you added them—next time I’d let the brownies cool a few minutes first (not full cool).
Meh, yeah my marshmallows always do weird stuff too 😅 Like are we supposed to put them immediately on hot brownies? I waited and mine still got toasted. Maybe 12 big marshmallows isn’t enough? Or my oven runs hot. I’d love if the recipe said the exact time/temp for adding marshmallows so they don’t burn.
These were spooky-good! The marshmallows on top turned out perfectly gooey and the black icing gel made them look exactly like ghosts. Easy and fun for Halloween night—will make again.
Mine didn’t come out clean with a toothpick (more like gooey), but I think that’s just how brownies should be. Still turned out great—marshmallows stayed soft, icing was easy to pipe.
Not sure about the “place a marshmallow on top of each brownie” part—do you mean each cut piece after baking? I tried putting them while still whole and it got messy.
I just made these for a party and they were gone in minutes! Everyone loved them! Who woulda thought marshmallows!
These are actually spooky-cute! The marshmallows on top turned perfectly gooey, and the black icing gel ghosts were super easy to do. 10/10 for a Halloween party.
Awww love this! The gooey marshmallow + those icing ghosts sound adorable. Definitely saving this for our Halloween party 🖤👻
Not gonna lie, I’m skeptical about the marshmallow part. But it actually works—once cooled they set nicely and the chocolate stays rich. The black icing gel is a must.
Followed the steps exactly, but 20-25 minutes felt a little short for my oven. I pulled them at 24 and the center was still gooey (in a good way). Might go 26 next time.
These brownies are the best! So fudgy and the marshmallows make them super cute! 🎃
I totally agree! These brownies are like little pieces of heaven! 😍
These brownies are okay but not “ghost” enough. I wanted the marshmallows to be more baked into the brownie, like a crème brûlée thing. Maybe I’ll broil them next time.
Really good! Although I think using a little less sugar would be better. Too sweet for me.
These are not brownies, they’re just chocolate mush with marshmallows. Disappointed!
I totally disagree! I think they’re super delicious and the marshmallows are a fun twist! Maybe you just baked them wrong?
The black icing gel gives such a Halloween vibe. Also, room temp eggs helped a lot—no weird batter separation for me.
Yes!! The black icing gel totally makes them look spooky 😍 And good call on room temp eggs—mine usually get weird too if they’re cold.
These brownies are spooktacular! My kids loved them. 🎃
Absolutely love the spooky theme. Kids went feral over these. I used room-temp eggs like the recipe said and the batter mixed super smooth.
I followed the recipe but ended up with a gooey mess. Could be my oven, but not happy.
Recipe’s alright, but why marshmallows? Can’t we just use peanut butter instead? 🤔
350°F is fine, but 9×13 for brownie thickness feels off. Mine came out super thin, so I reduced baking time. Might help someone else if they want thicker brownies.
I followed the recipe but my batter was way too thick after adding flour. Maybe my eggs were too small? I still baked it, and it tasted fine, just not that glossy brownie look.
I tried making these, but my marshmallows melted into puddles. What did I do wrong?
I was skeptical about the marshmallow placement step, but it worked. Mine melted into the top a bit (in a good way). The flavor is rich and chocolatey.
I was also skeptical, but I love that it turns gooey up top instead of staying all chewy. Yours sounds perfect!
These are super fun—my kids loved the ghost faces. The marshmallows on top stayed fluffy and the brownies were rich but not overly sweet.
Totally agree—those ghost faces are adorable. I also noticed the marshmallows stayed nice instead of melting into the top layer, which is a win with brownies.
Mine came out kinda dry though 😕 I baked 25 min and the toothpick was “clean” but the texture felt off. Maybe my oven runs hot. Still cute ghosts, but I’ll try lowering the time next time.
I followed it but my batter felt thicker than expected—maybe my cocoa was old. Still tasted awesome though. I did need about 30 minutes, not 20-25.
Ahh that makes sense—old cocoa can definitely make the batter feel drier/thicker. I’m glad the flavor still came out awesome though! And yep, brownies often need more time depending on your oven.
Idk, baking marshmallows on top sounds risky. Mine kinda melted into the brownie layer and the “ghost” shapes were sad. Tasted fine, just not the look I wanted.
350°F?! For marshmallows? I think the instructions are kinda wrong lol. I’d just chill the brownies first and then add the marshmallows cold so they don’t gooey. Or bake at lower temp. Tasted fine though, right? That’s the main thing.
Oh no 😭 I get what you mean—mine have a tendency to sink/melt too if they sit in too-warm brownies. Next time maybe wait a bit longer for the brownies to cool before putting the marshmallows on top, or use slightly underbaked brownies so they’re not piping hot.
This is the first time I’ve baked brownies where the marshmallows didn’t sink completely. That step (immediately after baking) matters a lot—nice recipe!
So the toothpick needs to come out clean… but brownies should be fudgy though? I always pull them a little early so they don’t dry out. Could that affect whether the marshmallows sink?
Yes!! I’ve had the same problem with other brownie recipes—those marshmallows really do better when you place them right away. Glad it worked for you 😊
The icing gel is kinda tricky to squeeze neatly. I got ghost faces all over the place (mostly symmetrical though 😅). Brownies taste rich and not too sweet—nice balance.
Same!! The icing gel definitely has a mind of its own 😅 I found it helps to squeeze from farther back and do smaller lines instead of trying to cover fast.
Pretty tasty, but my brownies took closer to 30 minutes—not 20-25—before the toothpick came out clean. Still worth it though. Next time I’ll watch them more closely.
Best ever!!!
The idea is cute but… 12 large marshmallows on top of a whole 9×13? I ended up with weird spacing and some ghosts looked sad. Still tasty though.
Okay I got the black icing gel but my ghosts looked more like angry blobs 😂 Tastes awesome. Next time I’ll chill the brownies a bit before decorating so the marshmallows don’t slide.
These came out super fudgy and the marshmallows actually melted in a really fun way. The ghost faces with the black gel were adorable—my kids wouldn’t stop snacking.
These were spooky-cute and super fudgy! I didn’t overbake them—20 minutes was perfect—and the marshmallows turned into this gooey top layer. The black icing gel is a fun finishing touch. Definitely making again for Halloween.
Omg these are adorable 😍 The gooey marshmallow top is the best part—mine did the same after I didn’t overbake. Black icing gel totally makes them look haunted!
LOL these are adorable. Made them for a party and everybody asked for the recipe. I’m not even a good baker and they came out fine.
I’m not sure about “toothpick comes out clean” since brownies usually stay fudgy. Mine came out almost cakey at 25 minutes—next time I’ll underbake slightly.
I followed the steps pretty closely, but my toothpick didn’t come out “clean” at 25 minutes—still tasty though. Next time I’ll probably pull them a touch earlier for fudgier brownies.
These are adorable and seriously fudgy. The marshmallows get all “ghostly” once the icing goes on—my kids loved them (and I did too). 10/10 for spooky season.
Omg yes!! The “ghostly” marshmallow thing is such a fun detail. I’m making these for our Halloween party for sure 🎃
I tried something similar but my marshmallows kinda melted into the batter 😅 maybe I left them too long. Still tasted good though! Any tips for keeping the shape?
I think 4 eggs is too many? The batter was super liquid and took forever to bake. Maybe my oven runs hot, but I wasn’t impressed.
Oh no—sorry they didn’t turn out! I *do* think 4 eggs is normal for this kind of rich brownie batter, but an oven running hot/cold or measuring issues can totally make it bake weird. If your batter felt super liquid, did you measure the flour/cocoa by spoon-and-level (not scooped)? Also, was the oven definitely at 350°F and not convection? Brownies can take closer to 25 minutes if the center is still soft.
I used mini marshmallows instead of large and the ghosts kinda melted together. Tasted good tho. Next time I’ll use the big ones like the recipe says.
I used dark cocoa and cut the sugar slightly, and they were a bit dry. Might be user error, but I’d keep the sugar as written if you want that fudgy bite.
Good info! I’ve made these with dark cocoa before—dryness makes sense since cocoa is less sweet and can affect the fudginess. I’ll keep the sugar as written next time.
Way too sweet for me with 2 cups sugar. I reduced sugar to 1.5 cups next time and it was much better. Still had the marshmallow chew, which I like.
I followed the steps exactly and the texture was more cakey than brownie-y. Next time I’ll probably reduce bake time or add a bit more cocoa. Flavor is good regardless!
Ahhh I get that—marshmallows + 20-25 min can set the middle more than expected. I’d try underbaking (more like 18-20) and maybe add a tablespoon or two extra cocoa to push the brownie vibe.
Weird, mine were super fudgy… I baked 30 min though and they still came out brownie-ish. Maybe your oven runs hot? Also did you whisk flour/cocoa enough? Cakey usually means too much mixing or too long bake.
I followed it exactly, but 20–25 mins felt short. The middle was kinda underbaked even after chilling. Maybe my oven runs cold? Flavor is good though.
