Cajun Cabbage Skillet

June 8, 2026

Cajun Cabbage Skillet is a hearty, flavorful dish that transforms simple ingredients into a satisfying meal packed with Southern-inspired flavor. Featuring tender cabbage, smoky sausage, onions, and a blend of bold Cajun seasonings, this one-pan recipe is perfect for busy weeknights when you need a quick and comforting dinner. It’s affordable, easy to prepare, and loaded with flavor in every bite.

One of the reasons this dish is so popular is its simplicity. Cabbage is an inexpensive vegetable that becomes incredibly tender and flavorful when cooked with savory ingredients and spices. Combined with smoked sausage and aromatic vegetables, it creates a complete meal that is both filling and nutritious.

To make Cajun Cabbage Skillet, start by slicing a head of green cabbage into thin strips. Dice an onion and bell pepper, and slice your favorite smoked sausage into rounds. Andouille sausage is a traditional choice because it adds a rich smoky flavor that pairs perfectly with Cajun spices, but other smoked sausages work well too.

Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat and add a small amount of oil. Cook the sausage until lightly browned, allowing it to develop a rich flavor. Remove it from the skillet and set aside. In the same pan, sauté the onions and bell peppers until softened. Add minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.

Stir in the cabbage and season generously with Cajun seasoning, paprika, black pepper, and a pinch of salt. As the cabbage cooks, it will begin to soften and reduce in volume. Return the sausage to the skillet and stir everything together. Cook for about 10 to 15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the cabbage is tender but still has a slight bite.

For additional flavor, many cooks like to add diced tomatoes, a splash of chicken broth, or a few dashes of hot sauce. These ingredients enhance the dish while maintaining its rustic, comforting character.

Serve Cajun Cabbage Skillet on its own as a complete meal or pair it with cornbread, rice, or roasted potatoes. It also reheats well, making it a great option for meal prep and leftovers.

Bold, comforting, and packed with Southern-inspired flavors, Cajun Cabbage Skillet proves that simple ingredients can create an unforgettable meal. With minimal cleanup and maximum flavor, it’s a recipe that deserves a place in your regular dinner rotation.
