Pork and Cabbage Hash

June 13, 2024

If you’re looking for a quick, satisfying, and flavorful dish that’s packed with nutrients, look no further than Pork and Cabbage Hash. This hearty meal combines tender pork with savory cabbage and other vegetables, creating a well-rounded, comforting dish that’s perfect for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. It’s a simple yet delicious way to enjoy a variety of flavors in one skillet.

The foundation of this dish is pork, typically pork shoulder or ground pork, which is sautéed until golden brown and flavorful. The natural sweetness of the pork complements the cabbage, which is shredded and sautéed until tender and slightly caramelized. This balance of savory and slightly sweet creates the perfect base for the hash.

To add extra texture and flavor, potatoes or sweet potatoes are often included. They’re diced and cooked until crispy, providing a satisfying bite. You can even add onions, garlic, and bell peppers to boost the flavor profile, making it a well-rounded, colorful dish.

A few key seasonings, such as salt, pepper, paprika, and a dash of cayenne, give the hash a slight kick, while fresh herbs like thyme or parsley bring freshness and brightness. The beauty of Pork and Cabbage Hash is its versatility, you can easily customize it based on your preferences or what you have on hand. For a heartier meal, add an egg on top for extra protein, or top it with a sprinkle of cheese for a creamy finish.

This dish is not only flavorful but also packed with nutrients. Pork provides a good source of protein and iron, while cabbage offers fiber and a variety of vitamins. The potatoes or sweet potatoes add a good dose of carbohydrates, making it a well-balanced meal.

Whether you’re looking for a quick weeknight dinner or a filling brunch, Pork and Cabbage Hash is the perfect dish that’s both delicious and satisfying.

It didn’t turn out like I expected. The cabbage was mushy and the pork was a bit dry. Couldn’t even finish it.

I’m sorry to hear that! The timing can really affect the texture. Maybe try reducing the cooking time for the cabbage next time?

Mushy cabbage? What did you do? I made it and it was delicious! Maybe you cooked it too long?

Isn’t pork a bit fatty? I prefer chicken instead. But I tried this and it was ok.

  3. User avatar antoine.ohara8 says:

It was ok, but I think the cabbage was too soggy for my taste. Maybe I’ll try less next time.

I hear ya! Cabbage can get really mushy if you cook it too long. Maybe just a quick sauté next time? 🤔

Less cabbage? Nah, I actually love the sogginess! Adds flavor, you know? But you do you.

Overcooked potatoes? That’s like the worst! I always make mine too mushy. 😅

  6. 3 stars
Pork shoulder is hard to find in stores! Had to settle for ground pork.

Wher’s the veggies? Cabbage is not enough. Maybe add some carrots or bell peppers next time.

I don’t understand, why would you put cabbage in a hash? Seems weird to me.

    1. User avatar kindra.bosco18 says:

I dunno, I think that’s a bit odd. Cabbage in hash? Shouldn’t it just be potatoes and meat? 🤷‍♂️

The potatoes didn’t cook well for me, they were kinda crunchy. Maybe I cut them too big?

    1. User avatar karl.larkin1970 says:

      4 stars
Maybe try cutting the potatoes smaller next time? That might help them cook better.

    2. 2 stars
