Prep Time 10 minutes
Cook Time 15 minutes
Total Time 25 minutes

Ingredients

  • 24 ounces cod fillets about 6 ounces each
  • 4 cups broth fish or vegetable
  • 1 Lemon thinly sliced
  • 4-6 sprigs dill fresh
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/2 cup plain Greek yogurt
  • 1 Lemon zest
  • 1 Lemon juice
  • 2 tbsp dill finely chopped, fresh
  • 1 clove garlic minced
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  • In a large, deep skillet or saucepan, pour in the fish or vegetable broth. The pan should be large enough to hold all the cod fillets without overcrowding.
  • Place the lemon slices and fresh dill sprigs in the broth.
  • Heat the broth over medium-high heat until it comes to a gentle simmer. Reduce the heat to low to maintain a gentle simmer.
  • Season the cod fillets with salt and pepper.
  • Carefully place the cod fillets into the simmering broth. Make sure the broth covers the fillets. If not, you can add a little more broth or water.
  • Poach the cod for about 5-7 minutes, or until it becomes opaque and easily flakes with a fork. The cooking time may vary depending on the thickness of the fillets.
  • Using a slotted spatula, carefully remove the poached cod fillets from the broth and set them aside on a serving plate.
  • In a small bowl, combine the Greek yogurt, lemon zest, lemon juice, fresh dill, minced garlic, salt, and pepper. Mix well until all the ingredients are fully incorporated.
  • Taste the sauce and adjust the seasoning, adding more salt, pepper, or lemon juice as needed.
  • Drizzle the lemon dill sauce over the poached cod fillets
  • Garnish with additional fresh dill and lemon slices if desired.
  • Serve the poached cod with your choice of side dishes, such as steamed vegetables, rice, or a fresh green salad.

Easy to follow, but I used frozen cod and it didn’t flake well.

This poached cod is a game changer! The lemon dill sauce is so fresh and zesty. I added a bit of chili flakes for an extra kick! Will definitely make again. 😊

Cod is so bland without flavor… why not use salmon? 🤷‍♂️

    1. User avatar edwardo.mccullough19 says:

      3 stars
Naaah, cod is fine. Just needs the right cookin! Add some spices and boom, flavor. Salmon is too oily for me.

    2. User avatar kiersten.jacobi says:

      4 stars

Too many lemons for me, seemed overdone. But the cod was cooked nicely.

  47. User avatar lacey.beatty54 says:

    2 stars
I tried this and the fish was undercooked! I followed the times but it was mushy 🤨.

    1. 4 stars
I had the same issue! Maybe your fillets were too thick? I always check for flakiness, it should be easy to break apart. 🤔

    2. User avatar carson.kunze88 says:

      2 stars
C’mon, how can it be mushy? Sounds like you didn’t poach it right. Follow the times, next time. 🐟

  48. User avatar chong.tromp1964 says:

    3 stars
Ugh, I burnt the garlic while prepping. The recipe says 1 clove but I think 1 was too less – it didn’t make much sauce.

  49. User avatar isaias.auer1970 says:

    2 stars
I don’t know about the yogurt sauce. What happened to traditional sauces? Could be better.

  50. User avatar berna.cartwright says:
