Salisbury steak with mushrooms is a classic comfort food that offers a satisfying combination of savory, tender beef patties smothered in a rich, flavorful gravy with earthy mushrooms. This dish is hearty, filling, and perfect for cozy family dinners. Its simplicity and hearty ingredients make it a timeless favorite that never goes out of style.
The base of Salisbury steak is a seasoned ground beef patty, often mixed with breadcrumbs, egg, onions, and spices like garlic powder, salt, and pepper. The mixture is shaped into oval-shaped patties and seared in a hot pan to create a nice crust on the outside while keeping the inside juicy and tender. This simple yet flavorful beef patty is the star of the dish, but it’s the savory gravy that truly elevates it.
The gravy is made by deglazing the pan with beef broth and simmering it with sautéed onions, garlic, and a generous amount of sliced mushrooms. The mushrooms soak up the rich flavor of the broth, creating a deep, umami-packed sauce that perfectly complements the beef. A little flour or cornstarch is added to thicken the gravy, giving it a smooth, velvety texture. The steaks are then returned to the pan, where they simmer in the mushroom gravy, absorbing all the savory goodness.
Salisbury steak with mushrooms is best served over mashed potatoes, rice, or noodles, allowing the rich gravy to be soaked up and enjoyed with every bite. It’s a satisfying, comforting dish that brings warmth to the table, making it ideal for colder months or when you’re craving a homey, fulfilling meal.
Whether you’re serving it for a family dinner or making it for a special occasion, Salisbury steak with mushrooms is sure to please. With its tender beef, rich gravy, and savory mushrooms, it’s the kind of dish that brings everyone together and leaves them feeling full and satisfied.

Quick meal, but not even close to my mom’s! Miss her cooking so much. 😢
I dunno, seems kinda bland. I added garlic and some spices but still felt off.
This recipe is fantastic! The gravy is sooo good. Will definitely make again!
So simple and quick! I added some garlic for extra flavor and it was delish! Will make again!
Love it! So easy to make and tastes like home-cooked goodness. Best recipe I’ve tried in months! 🍽️
So good but took too long to cook. I’m not a patient cook.
Simple recipe but too many steps for me. Next time I might just order take out.
I feel you! Sometimes it’s just easier to get take out. But this looks like it could be worth a try if you have the time.
Too many steps? It’s just cooking, not rocket science! Just follow it step by step and it will turn out great.
I dunno, it didn’t turn out like my grandma’s. Maybe too much broth? I expected more flavor.
This recipe is amazing! My family loved it, especially the gravy. Will definitely make again!
I expected better. The flavors were kinda bland. I added garlic powder, helped a little.
Not sure if the Worcestershire sauce is necessary. Kinda bland without some spice.
Can I substitute chicken for beef? I don’t eat red meat. Would it still work?
Salisbury steak for the win! Will make again for sure!
I made this with ground turkey because I didn’t have beef. Still turned out pretty good!
I added some garlic to the mushrooms. Made all the difference!
Nah, wasn’t a fan. Just tasted like beef with mushrooms. Where’s the flavor?
Easy enough, but I ended up burning the patties. Oops!
Fantastic for a family dinner! I think it could use a little more salt, though.
It was just alright, not what I expected. But my kids ate it, so that’s a plus.
This recipe is super easy and delicious! My kids loved it!
OMG YUM! Like, who knew I could make it look fancy???
Where’s the garlic? Should’ve added some. Still decent though.
Easy and quick! I’m not a cook but even I could make this! Thanks!
I substituted beef with turkey and it worked great! Who knew turkey could be so good? Yummy!
This recipe is fantastic! So easy to make and tastes just like mom used to make. Yum!
Salisbury steak? I thought this was just a beef steak with mushrooms? confused.
ok-ish, but I think it needs some veggies. Like peas or carrots maybe? Just my opinion.
Nothin’ like a good ol’ Salisbury steak. Made it for the family and they loved it. Thank you!
So glad to hear that! It’s always a win when the family loves it. Can’t wait to try it myself!
So good! I added some cheese on top and it was delicious. Cheese makes everything better!
Sooo good! Honestly, I just love mushrooms and they made this dish even better! 🍄❤️
Mushrooms are so gross. I swapped them for more onions, and it turned out decent.
I dont know maibe it was me but the patties fell apart when I cooked them! Anyone else have this issue?
Did not turn out like the picture. Still tasted ok but not impressive.
It’s just a picture! Taste is what matters. Glad it was ok for ya!
Maybe you missed a step? I always use more Worcestershire sauce for flavor!
I don’t understand how you can just mix all those ingredients and it comes out fine. Seems like a scam.
I followed this to the letter, but my patties fell apart! Maybe I used too lean beef? Who knows.
Yummy! 10/10 would recommend! My dog loved it too! 🐶
Easy to follow and taste yummy, but way too salty for my taste!
This was so good! My whole family loved it!
Really? I thought it looked kinda bland. Did you add anything special?
I’m so glad to hear that! It’s always great when the family enjoys a meal together. 😊
Wow. Just wow. This was so delicious! I added some garlic too, which I think made it better.
This is an amazing recipe! The steak turned out so juicy and flavorful. Will make again!
I dunno about this. Seems like a lot of steps for just some meat and mushrooms. Why not just grill the beef?
Not bad, but my kids didn’t like the mushrooms. Next time, I might skip them. Wont hurt the flavor!
Salisbury steak is my go-to comfort food! Can’t believe how good it turned out. Definitely a keeper!
I thought it was okay, but the texture was a bit off. Maybe I overmixed it?
This salisbury steak was a hit! Super juicy and flavorful. Thanks for sharing! 😊
I thought Salisbury steak was made with gravy from a can. This is so much better! 10/10.
Too bland for my taste. I added garlic and spices to kick it up. Find it hard to believe this is a recipe.
This was okay, but my gravy didn’t thicken. I probably added too much beef broth. Anyone else have this issue?
I had the same issue! I realized I forgot to add the cornstarch mixture. That really helps with thickening the gravy.
Y’all, how do you make this without it falling apart? Mine just crumbled 😩
