Not gonna lie, I was skeptical about the marshmallows on top—thought they’d just melt into nothing. They didn’t! They set into this chewy layer. Also the prep is easy, no fancy steps.
My kids LOVED the ghost part. The icing gel lines actually stayed put, and the marshmallows toasted nicely as they cooled. I might add a little extra vanilla next time, because I like things bold.
Super easy and the ingredients are basic. I love recipes that don’t need weird stuff. Mine puffed a bit too much, but that’s probably user error, not the recipe 😅
I think 1 cup flour is too much? Mine turned out thick and firm, like a dense chocolate cake bar. Could be my cocoa was old, but I’d adjust next time.
Had a hard time getting the marshmallows to stick, but still tasted great! Next time, maybe I’ll use smaller ones.
Yummy! 😋 Can’t wait for Halloween to make again!
I only had mini marshmallows so I used those and it was a mess… kinda sweet brownie bits everywhere. Still tasty, just not the same vibe.
Aw man 😭 I bet the mini ones basically melted into the batter—still sounds yummy though. Next time maybe use regular large marshmallows or push minis on top right at the end so they keep their shape!
These brownies are spooktacular! The marshmallows really make it fun for my kids.
I followed the recipe but my brownies turned out really dry. Idk what went wrong. 😕
Dry brownies? Must’ve missed somethin’. I don’t understand how that happens. 🤔
Oh no! Sometimes if you bake for too long or use too much flour it can make them dry. Did you check them earlier than the time listed?
Wow, my guests loved these! The chocolate flavor is intense, and the ghosts are cute!
I was skeptical about “toothpick clean” since brownies can go over fast, but 22 minutes was spot on for me. Sweet though—next time I might reduce sugar just a touch.
Wow so good!! I might make them for Thanksgiving. Brownies and marshmallows are the best combo.
These were a hit at the Halloween party! Everyone loved them. 🎃
1/2 cup cocoa powder seems low? Mine didn’t taste very chocolatey. Also my eggs weren’t room temp and batter got a little lumpy. Maybe I messed it up but I wouldn’t make again.
Super easy and fun! The ghosts turned out great. Will make again for Halloween!
One star because it says clean toothpick but mine was totally wet, then it sunk in the middle. I don’t know if my oven runs hot or what, but the instructions for doneness could be clearer. Might try again with a shorter bake.
Ugh, that’s frustrating. I’ve noticed at 350°F different ovens swing a lot—next time I’d bake closer to 20 minutes and check early. Also, if the toothpick hits melted marshmallow in the center, it won’t come out “clean” even if the brownies are set.
Not the best I’ve tried, and they turned out too gooey. I think I baked them too long?
Ghost marshmallows? What a weird combo! Not sure about this one. :/
Too much sugar! I felt like I was eating pure candy. Not my fav, but the kids liked them, I guess.
Yeah, I get what you mean! I thought they were super sweet too. But I guess kids love that! Maybe I’ll cut down on sugar next time.
Pretty tasty, but my toothpick never really came out “clean” at 25 min—more like gooey crumbs. Still ended up great though. Ghost faces were cute, even if mine looked a little derpy 😂
Aw that’s still a win though 😄 Toothpick not “clean” at 25 min happens—could be that center stays fudgy. Did you use regular cocoa or Dutch-process? Mine always needs a couple extra minutes if it’s more crumbly.
I dunno, “clean” at 25 min is kinda impossible with brownies lol. Next time try not baking past 25 and just chill them longer—gooey crumbs sounds like underbaked in the best way. Ghosts look adorable too!
Why 12 marshmallows? I had a hard time spacing them on the whole tray. Also my black gel looked gray for some reason. Still tasted like a brownie, just not as “ghostly” as expected.
Not sure about the “toothpick clean” thing—mine was more fudgy than that after 20 minutes. I think “mostly set but not wet” would be better instructions.
These tasted funny… maybe too much sugar?? idk.
Wow, these brownies are amazing! So fudgy and yummy! Will make again!
Booooo! Should have added more cocoa. Little weak on flavor honestly.
I followed it exactly and everything tasted kind of dry? Like, chalky flour flavor. Maybe I overmixed? I stirred until just combined though.
I used hot marshmallows and they collapsed a bit when I placed them. Maybe let the brownies rest 5 minutes before adding? Flavor was still chocolatey. Ghost faces were kinda scary in a good way.
350°F is fine but 20-25 mins isn’t enough for my pan size—mine stayed too soft in the middle. I added like 8 more minutes and then it fixed.
SO GOOD!!! Im not even a dessert person but these changed my life! 😍
These brownies were DELICIOUS!!! Want to eat them all day long!!!
Oh wow, I gotta try these! They sound amazing! 😍
I dont bake often, but these were easy to make. I just need to work on the decoration, mine look silly.
I don’t understand why people use marshmallows for brownies, they should just be regular brownies.
The texture is great, but I’m confused by “place a marshmallow on top of each brownie.” After baking, the brownies aren’t cut yet—do you add marshmallows after slicing or just dot them on the whole slab?
Ghosts don’t really look like this. Should be purple not black lol. Still tasted okay tho.
My marshmallows kinda sank into the brownies instead of sitting on top. Any idea if I should wait until they’re partially cooled? Flavor was still good, just not the look I wanted.
That usually happens if the brownies are still too hot when you add the marshmallows—on contact they soften and sink. I’d wait a few minutes after pulling them from the oven (like until they’re warm but not steaming). Also, make sure you’re putting marshmallows on top of the *baked* surface, not stirring them in.
Maybe your brownies were underbaked? If they’re too gooey in the middle, the marshmallows can just dive. Next time try baking the full 25 min, then let them cool a bit before placing marshmallows. Also, I think 12 marshmallows for 9×13 is kinda a lot—crowding might help them melt together and sink. Just my guess.
These were way more fun than I expected—ghost faces came out adorable. Texture is fudgy and the marshmallows get this perfect soft top. Will make again for Halloween!
I followed it pretty closely but mine took closer to 28 minutes. Still turned out great though—rich cocoa flavor and the marshmallows melt slightly into the top.
Looks good but where do you get the black icing? Can’t find it anywhere around here. 😩
I don’t understand why marshmallows on brownies? Sounds gross.
I think marshmallows add a fun texture! It’s like a surprise in every bite. Give it a try!
The black icing gel made my ghosts look more like angry smudges than ghosts 😂 Still tasted great. Could use a little more cocoa for my personal preference.
