Easy candied orange peel is one of those delightful treats that transforms something simple into something truly special. With its jewel-like appearance, sweet citrus flavor, and chewy texture, it’s a nostalgic confection that feels both old-fashioned and luxurious. Whether you enjoy it as a snack on its own, dip it in dark chocolate for an elegant dessert, or use it as a garnish for cakes and cocktails, candied orange peel adds a burst of sunshine to any occasion.
The magic of this treat lies in its balance of flavors. The natural bitterness of the orange peel mellows as it simmers in sugar syrup, leaving behind a bright, sweet, and slightly tangy flavor that’s deeply satisfying. The chewy texture is addictive, and the light sugar coating gives it just the right amount of sparkle and crunch. Best of all, it’s a wonderful way to make use of citrus peels that might otherwise go to waste, turning kitchen scraps into something beautiful and delicious.
Candied orange peel is also incredibly versatile. You can chop it up and fold it into baked goods like fruitcakes, muffins, or biscotti for a burst of citrusy sweetness. It makes a lovely topping for vanilla ice cream, yogurt, or panna cotta, and it’s a charming addition to homemade gifts when packaged in little jars or tied up in parchment paper. Dipped halfway in dark chocolate, it becomes an elegant confection that’s as perfect for a holiday dessert tray as it is for an afternoon treat with coffee.
Beyond its many uses, there’s something satisfying about making candied orange peel from scratch. The process is simple and meditative, filling your kitchen with the bright, comforting scent of citrus. It’s a small project with big rewards, one that brings a touch of old-world charm to modern desserts. Whether you make it to elevate your baking, give as a thoughtful homemade gift, or simply satisfy a sweet craving, candied orange peel is proof that the simplest ingredients can create the most memorable flavors.

Took forever to make. Ain’t nobody got time for that! Not worth it, I think.
I agree! It looks like a lot of work for just some orange peels. Maybe I’ll stick to buying them instead.
Can I use lemon peels instead? Curious if it will taste good.
Yum! So sweet and chewy! The syrup was like a candy explosion, I could eat it by the spoonful. 👍
I tried it but the peels turned out kinda bitter. The oranges I used were too old maybe?
This recipe is so simple! I made it for my kids and they loved chewing on the sweet peels. Thanks!
Easy peasy! But why does it say ‘organic’? I used regular oranges and they were fine. 🤷♂️
Yeah, I was wondering about that too! I usually go for whatever I find in the store. As long as they taste good, right? 🌟
Using regular oranges is totally fine! Organic just means less pesticides, but honestly, it’s all about what you like! 😄
I followed it exactly and mine were a little too tough. Maybe I didn’t cut thin enough or I didn’t remove enough pith? Not bad, just chewy.
Mine came out kinda chewy, not crisp. Probably simmered too long? Or I didn’t let them drain enough. Next time I’ll dry them longer.
Mine came out bitter. I didn’t remove enough of the white stuff, I guess. Still learning, but thanks for the steps!
Oh no—bitter is usually the pith, yep. Next time, peel a little more aggressively and try thicker soaking of the strips in fresh water for 10–15 min first.
Super easy and makes the kitchen smell like orange candy. I tossed them in sugar after cooling and they disappeared fast.
I followed the recipe, but my peels turned out too chewy. What did I do wrong?
This recipe is super easy! I made it for my kids and they loved it! Will definitely try again.
Great instructions, but my peels took closer to 75 minutes to get translucent. Still yummy though—nice for topping yogurt and cookies.
Why would you even want to eat orange peels? This is so weird.
I tried this but it turned out too sweet for my taste. Why is the sugar so much? 🤔
My kids loved this! We had fun making it together. 🍊❤️
That sounds amazing! 🍊 It’s great to hear that your kids enjoyed it. Cooking together creates such wonderful memories! ❤️
Wasn’t a fan of the texture. Felt like chewing rubber bands. Maybe I did it wrong? 🙁
Great recipe! But I accidentally burned mine. Need to watch it closer next time.
No worries! It takes practice. I burnt mine too the first time. Just keep an eye on it next time, you’ll get it right!
Burnt? Yikes! I just don’t have the patience for cooking stuff like this. Maybe just stick to snacks or something easier?
I used lemons instead of oranges because it was all I had. Still good, but not quite the same!
Took longer than 45 minutes for me. I think my strips were thicker. Once I cut them thinner, the next batch looked way more glossy.
