Greek Lemon Chicken and Potatoes

August 31, 2023

Greek Lemon Chicken and Potatoes is a comforting, flavorful dish that captures the essence of Mediterranean home cooking. It’s a simple, one-pan meal that combines tender, juicy chicken with crispy, golden potatoes—infused with lemon, garlic, oregano, and olive oil for a bold, zesty flavor.

The key to this dish is its marinade. Fresh lemon juice, olive oil, minced garlic, oregano, salt, and pepper come together to create a tangy and aromatic blend that tenderizes the chicken while flavoring the potatoes. The chicken is typically bone-in and skin-on, which helps retain moisture and develop a beautifully crispy skin as it roasts in the oven.

The potatoes are cut into wedges or chunks and roasted alongside the chicken in the same pan. As the dish bakes, the potatoes absorb the flavorful juices from the chicken and lemon-garlic marinade, resulting in a savory, caramelized finish. Some versions also include a touch of chicken broth or white wine in the pan to add depth and keep everything moist.

Greek Lemon Chicken and Potatoes is best served straight from the oven, garnished with fresh herbs like parsley or dill and a sprinkle of crumbled feta for added richness. Pair it with a Greek salad, warm pita bread, or a side of tzatziki for a complete meal.

Whether you’re serving a casual family dinner or entertaining guests, this dish offers comfort, flavor, and simplicity in every bite. It’s a perfect way to bring the sunny flavors of Greece into your kitchen any time of year.

I’m not sure about all that lemon juice. It sound too acidic. Is there a substitute?

Seems too complicated for me. Can’t I just throw the chicken into the pot and let it cook? 🤔

Did you know you can also use sweet potatoes for this? A bit different but yum!

Not bad but a bit too lemony for my taste. I think half the lemon juice would suffice.

I love lemon! But I guess some people don’t like it so strong. Maybe just add less next time!

I love Greek food! This is a great recipe, but I’d add some feta on top for extra flavor.

Oregano? Is that really necessary? I just don’t like it, might try without.

I forgot to add the cayenne and it was so bland! I won’t be making this again unless I fix my mistake.

The cooking time was off. My chicken was still pink after an hour. I had to cook it longer. Not thrilled with this.
