Chocolate Chip Mint Cookies

March 14, 2025

Chocolate chip mint cookies are a refreshing and indulgent take on the beloved classic chocolate chip cookie. With the familiar chewiness and gooey chocolate chunks we all love, these cookies get an invigorating upgrade thanks to the addition of mint. The result is a perfectly balanced treat where the richness of chocolate meets the cool, crisp flavor of mint, making them ideal for any time of year, especially around the holidays or whenever you’re craving something a little different.

What makes these cookies stand out is the delightful contrast between the sweet chocolate and the clean, refreshing mint. Some versions use peppermint extract, while others incorporate chopped mint chocolate candies or green mint chips for added color and flavor. The mint enhances the chocolate without overpowering it, offering a unique sensory experience that feels both indulgent and refreshing. The dough can be made with a touch of brown sugar to ensure a soft, chewy center with just the right amount of crispness on the edges.

Chocolate chip mint cookies are crowd-pleasers and work beautifully for festive occasions, cookie exchanges, or as a cool surprise in a lunchbox. Their slight green hue—if you choose to color them—makes them visually appealing, and the flavor combination is familiar yet exciting. They’re also incredibly easy to make in large batches, and the dough can be frozen ahead of time for whenever you need a quick dessert.

For serving, these cookies pair perfectly with a cold glass of milk, a scoop of vanilla or mint chocolate chip ice cream, or even crumbled into a sundae. Their cool minty finish makes them especially enjoyable after a meal, acting almost like a sweet palate cleanser.

Perfect for satisfying your sweet tooth or as a treat for family and friends.

Really good, but I think there’s a bit too much butter for my taste. Next time I’ll reduce it a little.

  2. User avatar Zaphod Beeblebrox says:

    2 stars
I tried making these but used mint chocolate chips instead. The taste was so overpowering! Not what I expected.

These cookies are amazing! I added extra chips and they turned out perfect. My family can’t get enough!

MEH. Thought they’d be better. Minty but not sweet enough for my taste. 🤷‍♂️

Ehh, not my fav. I like the regular ones with just chocolate. 1 star.

  6. 3 stars
Love mint cookies but my sister says they’re gross. Guess everyone has their own tastes.

  7. User avatar sharleen.veum67 says:

I tried making these but used way too much peppermint extract by mistake. Tasted like toothpaste! 😅

    1. User avatar shay.nolan1954 says:

      5 stars
Haha, that’s a common mistake! I’ve done that before too. Just limit the peppermint next time and you’ll be fine. 😄

  8. User avatar basilia.spinka17 says:

    5 stars
5 stars just because mint + chocolate is always a win. My kids ate them faster than I could cool them.

  9. User avatar edwin.bogan67 says:

I don’t know if I like mint in cookies. Seems weird to me. But my friend made these, and they were surprisingly good.

    1. User avatar miguel.hegmann40 says:

      4 stars
Mint in cookies is actually pretty good! It gives a nice twist to the classic chocolate chip. Glad you liked them!

    2. User avatar lacie.langosh says:

      2 stars
I dunno… mint and chocolate just sounds off to me. I’d prefer my cookies without mint, thank you very much.

  10. User avatar leona.vandervort41 says:

    2 stars
I don’t get why people like mint in cookies. It feels wrong. 2 stars for effort.

  11. 3 stars
Not gonna lie, the peppermint extract is STRONG. I used 1/2 tsp like another reviewer suggested and it was much better for my taste.

    1. User avatar Trina Wolf III says:

      5 stars
Yes!! Peppermint extract can be *way* overpowering. Glad 1/2 tsp worked for you—mine got almost toothpaste-y at first too.

  12. 3 stars
I followed the recipe but they spread too much. What did I do wrong?

  13. User avatar josephina.lesch88 says:

    5 stars
Just sayin, these r the best cookies like ever made! 😍

  14. User avatar erma.fritsch says:

I followed the recipe exact but they came out flat! What did I do wrong? Help!

  15. User avatar dwana.bauch51 says:

    4 stars
Pretty tasty, but I think the peppermint extract might be a bit strong. Next time I’ll use a little less so it doesn’t overpower the chocolate.

  16. User avatar geoWizard says:

I love mint, love cookies. A match made in heaven! Just wanted to say your instructions were clear and easy to follow. 😊

  17. User avatar Lunkwill and Fook says:

These cookies are amazing! I love the mint flavor mixed with chocolate, so good!

    1. 5 stars
I totally agree! The mint and chocolate combo is just perfect. Can’t wait to try these myself!

    2. 2 stars
Mint in cookies? No thanks. Sounds kinda weird to me. I prefer plain chocolate.

  18. User avatar quentin.pfannerstill58 says:

    5 stars
Yum! I added some crushed peppermint candies on top, they were super festive! Perfect for the holidays.

    1. User avatar Frodo Baggins says:

      2 stars
Sounds kinda weird, peppermint and chocolate? Not sure that mix works but whatever. 🤷‍♂️

    2. User avatar loyd.hand2006 says:

Crushed peppermint? That sounds great! I never thought of that. I’m definitely trying it next time! 🎉

  19. User avatar everett.jaskolski says:

These cookies are AMAZING! The mint flavor is just right and the chocolate chips are so gooey. Definitely making these again!

  20. User avatar hershel.emard43 says:

    3 stars
I followed the steps exactly and they spread a lot. Not sure if my flour was off or I baked too short, but the cookies are more like thin than thick.

  21. User avatar Hyman O'Kon MD says:

    1 star
Chocolate and mint? Really? Not sure if I want my cookies to taste like mouthwash. 🤨

    1. 2 stars
But mint is for chewing gum, not cookies! Sounds weird to me. 🤔

    2. 5 stars
I think it sounds delicious! Chocolate and mint is a classic combo, just like girl scouts cookies. Give it a try! 😊

  22. User avatar Anna Septic says:

    2 stars
I think 2 1/4 cups flour is too much. Mine got dry and crumbly. I’ll try 2 cups next time.

    1. 4 stars
Hmm, sorry yours turned out dry! I wonder if your flour was measured a bit packed—1 cup can vary a lot. If you’ll try 2 cups next time, you might also add 1–2 extra tbsp butter or slightly reduce bake time since overdrying can make them crumbly.

  23. User avatar Sapphire says:

    1 star
Made these for my kids, and they didn’t like them! They said it tastes like toothpaste. Never again! Just sticking to regular chocolate chip cookies.

  24. User avatar sibyl.dietrich1954 says:

    5 stars
These are legit the best cookies ever!! ❤️❤️

  25. User avatar bernard.marquardt says:

    4 stars
The instructions said bake 10–12, but mine were pale at 12. I ended up doing 14 minutes and they were finally golden. Maybe my sheet pan is the issue.

    1. 4 stars
14 minutes sounds about right if they were still pale at 12… but also maybe the oven runs cold? My cooking is kinda chaotic, so I just look for golden edges like it says. Mint ones are dangerous tho, they smell so good lol.

    2. User avatar herschel.klein2018 says:

      5 stars
Good catch! 10–12 is so dependent on the oven and pan. I’ve had the same thing—mine turn pale if the sheet pan is too dark/thin. I’d try preheating longer and using the middle rack too.

  26. User avatar Adam Bomb says:

    2 stars
Meh, I don’t get the hype. The mint was too strong for my taste. I prefer plain chocolate chip cookies.

  27. 2 stars
I don’t understand the hype around mint in cookies. It was weird. I like chocolate chip cookies as they are without messing with mint. Not for me.

  28. 5 stars
These cookies are amazing! The mint really shines through! 😍

  29. User avatar melania.goodwin says:

    3 stars
Quick question—do I really cream butter + sugar “until smooth” like 5 minutes? I only did like 1 minute and my mixture was kinda grainy. Still baked, but could’ve been better.

  30. User avatar josef.murphy17 says:

    3 stars
Doesn’t have enough chocolate for my taste. Disappointed. 😕

  31. 4 stars
Oven temp says 350, but mine took longer to bake! Gotta watch it closer next time.

  32. User avatar dan.balistreri53 says:

    5 stars
Yum! So good my kids ate them all in one day!

    1. 5 stars
That sounds amazing! I need to try these for my kids too!

  33. User avatar Barry Manilow says:

    2 stars
The butter makes them too greasy, I don’t recommend using a full cup. Will try with less next time.

    1. User avatar timmy.walsh says:

      4 stars
I totally agree! I found them a bit too greasy as well. Maybe cutting the butter in half is the way to go. More chocolate chips next time for sure! 😋

  34. User avatar leone.feeney1983 says:

    5 stars
My oven runs hot so I pulled them at 9 minutes—perfect edges, no burning. Definitely adding to the rotation.

  35. User avatar tambra.weber45 says:

    4 stars
Very good! But I think next time I might use less sugar. Sweet overload!

  36. User avatar Draugr Thrall says:

    2 stars
Tasted a lil weird, might skip the mint next time. Just chocolate is better.

  37. 5 stars
Wondrful cookies! Just like mom used to make. 🤗

  38. User avatar jc.hessel75 says:

    4 stars
The peppermint extract is strong (in a good way). My whole house smelled like a candy cane store, lol.

  39. User avatar emilio.adams says:

    5 stars
These are like minty chocolate dreams. 10/10 will make again.

  40. User avatar leon.crist26 says:

    4 stars
So easy to make! I was worried about the mint flavor being too strong, but it’s just right. Thanks for sharing! Will be making these again soon!

  41. User avatar Spider Soldier says:

    4 stars
My kids loved them, but I ended up with a whole lotta dough. I think I made the cookies too big, oops!

    1. User avatar eli.goldner54 says:

      5 stars
Haha, I’ve done the same! Maybe next time try using a tablespoon instead of a teaspoon to scoop? Makes em smaller.

  42. User avatar terrell.christiansen says:

    4 stars
Mint and chocolate is a classic combo! My kids loved them. 🍪

    1. User avatar Spider Soldier says:

      5 stars
Totally agree! Mint and chocolate are the best! My kids couldn’t get enough. 🍫🍀

  43. User avatar olin.kiehn1952 says:

    5 stars
These cookies are AMAZING! The mint gives them such a refreshing twist. I added extra chocolate chips and they turned out divine! Totally saving this recipe.

  44. User avatar Sand-Dial says:

    4 stars
Very simple recipe! Me and my kids had fun making them. They’re super delicious! Will make again.

  45. User avatar johnathon.vonrueden5 says:

    2 stars
I hate mint in cookies. Can you make it without? Just chocolate chips, please.

  46. 3 stars
Um, can you use any type of mint? Like, I have spearmint, would that work? Just curious. Looks good anyway.

  47. 5 stars
OMG I made these for a holiday party and they disappeared fast. Everyone kept asking for the recipe. I used dark brown sugar and maybe that helped with the flavor.

    1. User avatar wellRespected says:

      5 stars
Love hearing this! Dark brown sugar probably gave them a deeper caramel flavor—nice catch. 😋 Did you notice they came out a bit softer or chewier?

  48. 5 stars
Yum! I added some nuts and it was a game changer! Great recipe! 👍

  49. User avatar liberal.hero says:

    4 stars
I used green chocolate chips instead. Best idea ever. Party in my mouth!

  50. User avatar Restless Draugr says:

    2 stars
Mine came out kinda dry. I may have overbaked because my oven runs hot. 10 minutes would’ve been enough, I think. Still edible, just not chewy.

    1. 4 stars
Ugh, that’s frustrating! If your oven runs hot, 10 minutes (or even a minute or two less) makes total sense. I’ve found pulling them when the centers still look a bit soft helps them stay chewy instead of drying out. Did you use the full 10–12 range, or check early?

  51. User avatar shawanna.hartmann says:

    4 stars
    Yum!

    1. User avatar shayne.hansen says:

      5 stars
I can’t wait to try these! Chocolate and mint together are the best combo.

  52. User avatar buford.medhurst says:

    5 stars
Mint and chocolate? Yes please! Perfect for Christmas or any time really.

  53. 5 stars
I was skeptical about peppermint extract, but wow. Super festive and not overly sweet. I used a little extra chocolate because… y’know… chocolate.

  54. User avatar porcupine says:

    2 stars
Not gonna lie, I didn’t love them. The texture was okay, but the peppermint extract tasted artificial to me. I’d rather use fresh mint or just a tiny bit less extract next round.

  55. User avatar Alexander Okuneva II says:

    1 star
Too minty for my taste. Just tastes like toothpaste. 🤢

  56. 4 stars
Love this recipe! But seriously, where can I find mint chocolate chips? It’s still a win though!

  57. User avatar geoWizard says:

    5 stars
These cookies turned out amazing! The mint flavor is just perfect. Definitely making them again!

    1. User avatar frederic.jones72 says:

      5 stars
I’m glad to hear that! Minty cookies are the best! What are you gonna pair them with?

    2. 2 stars
Really? Mint? I can’t imagine cookies tasting good with mint. Tried them once and I didn’t like it.

  58. User avatar Aldo Spencer says:

    5 stars
Five stars. Also i used salted butter by accident and they were still tasty—no big deal. Love these!

    1. User avatar sharell.weber50 says:

      5 stars
Five stars indeed! Love that you tried salted butter—honestly the salt probably just boosts the chocolate and mint balance. Glad they worked out 😊

  59. User avatar Lyman Prosacco says:

    5 stars
These cookies are AMAZING! The minty flavor is just perfect. My kids love them!

  60. 2 stars
Followed the recipe exactly but my cookies turned out flat. What did I do wrong?

  61. 4 stars
They taste like those holiday cookies from the store. Nice balance of sweet and mint. Next time I’ll chill the dough because mine were a little soft.

  62. User avatar dwayne.dach1953 says:

    2 stars
Um, can you really taste the peppermint? I don’t like strong flavors.

    1. User avatar seymour.pfannerstill1967 says:

      4 stars
You can taste the peppermint, but it’s not overpowering. It’s just a hint, really. You might like it!

  63. User avatar wellRespected says:

    4 stars
I was skeptical about the mint flavor, but wow, it was delicious! Will make again!

    1. User avatar wyatt.schroeder85 says:

      5 stars
I’m so glad you enjoyed them! The mint really adds a unique twist to the classic cookie. Definitely a repeat in my house too!

  64. User avatar rickiestmorty says:

    3 stars
Why 10–12 minutes? Mine were raw at 10, but at 12 they were fine. I guess ovens vary, but the timing feels a little off.

    1. User avatar MAGA2024.Trumpster says:

      5 stars
Yeah, that range is really about oven differences—mine always need closer to 11–12. I watch for lightly browned edges and slightly set centers, not fully baked-looking all over.

    2. User avatar rubi.schumm1950 says:

      4 stars
10 min seems too short IMO. I did 10 and they were gooey/raw too. Next time I’ll try 13–14 and maybe flatten them a bit—also my oven runs cool, so that probably matters.

  65. User avatar lindsay.heathcote says:

    5 stars
I used coconut oil instead of butter and they came out soft. Yummy!

  66. User avatar Rob McKenna says:

    3 stars
The recipe says 1 cup of sugar but I added 2 cups by mistake. They’re kinda sweet… but not bad.

  67. User avatar cary.schneider92 says:

    1 star
Ummm mine didnt work—cookies never set, they just melted into flat stuff. Probably my eggs were too large? or I forgot baking soda? idk 😂

    1. 4 stars
Oh no 😅 If they melted flat, it’s usually either the butter was too warm (not properly softened/cold), or the dough was mixed too much / too thin. Also make sure you actually measured flour—2 1/4 cups can vary a lot by scooping. Eggs being “too large” would matter a bit, but forgetting baking soda is the bigger likely culprit.

  68. User avatar Barliman Butterbur says:

    5 stars
    Cookies. Yum.

  69. 4 stars
I made these for my friends and they turned out great! Followed the recipe exactly. Will make again!

  70. User avatar fabian.wiegand16 says:

    3 stars
Didn’t have baking soda so I used baking powder. Cookies came out okay but not great.

    1. User avatar larissa.mcglynn9 says:

      4 stars
Baking powder can make a difference! Try adding a bit more flour next time. But hey, if they tasted okay, that’s something! 🍪

  71. User avatar tisha.gibson7 says:

    4 stars
I only had peppermint flavoring (not extract). It worked, but I had to add less—otherwise it was too intense.

  72. User avatar darcel.lockman2025 says:

    3 stars
Too sweet for my taste. I think I’ll reduce the sugar next time.

  73. User avatar margarette.wilderman1970 says:

    4 stars
Pretty good, but mine spread more than I expected. I think my butter was too warm when I creamed it. Flavor still great though—could taste the mint immediately.

    1. 5 stars
That makes sense—if the butter was too warm, the dough can get runny and spread. Next time, try chilling the dough 30–60 min before baking (or just make sure the butter is truly softened, not melty). Glad the flavor still popped though!

  74. User avatar clemmie.bergnaum42 says:

    3 stars
Mine turned out kinda flat and the edges got darker than the center. Maybe my oven runs hot—still tasted great.

  75. 2 stars
I don’t think mint and chocolate go together. I prefer regular chocolate chips.

  76. User avatar verda.hoeger62 says:

    3 stars
The baking time was too long for me. My cookies got burned. Next time I’ll check earlier.

  77. User avatar tennille.reynolds4 says:

    5 stars
Mint chocolate chip is my favorite combo! So happy to find a cookie version.

  78. User avatar elke.zulauf says:

    5 stars
These cookies are amazing! Perfect mix of chocolate and mint. Family loved them!

  79. User avatar chong.leannon5 says:

    4 stars
I followed the recipe like 90% but forgot eggs. They still turned out ok-ish.

    1. User avatar myra.hoppe says:

      4 stars
Wow, no eggs? That’s brave! I might have to try that too! Glad they turned out decent!

  80. User avatar derick.parker1966 says:

    3 stars
How many cookies does this make? I only got like 15. Maybe I made them too big?

    1. 5 stars
15 cookies? Wow, sounds like yours were giant! 😂 But hey, bigger cookies means more to enjoy!

    2. User avatar marcelle.wolff says:

      4 stars
I usually get around 24 cookies with that dough! Maybe try using a smaller scoop next time?

  81. User avatar kelvin.schamberger1950 says:

    3 stars
Not gonna lie, the peppermint extract was kinda intense for me. The chocolate helps, but if you don’t like minty desserts, maybe cut the peppermint in half.

  82. User avatar pattie.kautzer67 says:

    5 stars
Mint + chocolate = best combo ever! Yum!

  83. User avatar logan.bins21 says:

    2 stars
I tried making these, but they turned out flat. What did I do wrong?

  84. User avatar leopoldo.jacobson86 says:

    4 stars
Peppermint extract can be kinda strong—mine was almost toothpaste-y at first. I think I used the wrong measurement because I panicked and added more vanilla after tasting. Still delicious though.

  85. 4 stars
They taste alright, but I’d prefer more chocolate chips! I might add more next time.

  86. User avatar aurelia.considine50 says:

    3 stars
These taste like holiday toothpaste cookies… but in a way my family loves? I’m torn 😅

  87. User avatar gerard.kerluke says:

    3 stars
Uhh, I burned my cookies. Maybe I should have watch them more closely???

  88. User avatar Great Deku Tree says:

    5 stars
These cookies are delicious! The mint flavor is just perfect. I made them for my kids and they loved them!

    1. User avatar antonio.ullrich60 says:

      2 stars
They sound good, but I think mint and chocolate together is kinda weird. Not for me.

    2. User avatar verlene.bergnaum1975 says:

      5 stars
I’m so glad you enjoyed them! Mint chocolate cookies are like magic! ✨

  89. 5 stars
These are dangerously good—mint + chocolate is such a win. I used a little extra chips and they came out perfectly chewy.

  90. 2 stars
Okay but why peppermint extract in cookies? 😂 I’m skeptical… but I’ll admit the smell is amazing.

  91. User avatar lindsy.pagac71 says:

    3 stars
I think my baking soda might’ve been old because the cookies didn’t rise much. Flavor still nice though.

    1. User avatar Jarvan IV says:

      5 stars
That really could be it—old baking soda loses its lift, so you get flatter cookies. Next time you can try testing it by mixing a pinch with a little hot water (it should fizz). Glad the flavor was still nice though!

  92. 3 stars
I may have messed up (forgot the brown sugar packed part 😅). They were decent though—will try again when I’m more awake.

Brown sugar packed or not, 10-12 min at 350 should be fine… but peppermint extract is pretty strong. Did you use 1 tsp straight? Mine turned bitter once when I got the measurements wrong lol. Try chilling dough too maybe.

Honestly, forgetting the packed brown sugar could change the chew/softness, but they still sound like they came out tasty! 😄 The peppermint + chocolate combo is always a win. Next time just pack that brown sugar and you’ll nail it.

Mint? Chocolate? Yuck. I don’t understand the hype around these cookies.

I get it, it ain’t for everyone, but have you tried them fresh out the oven? Just sayin’!

Mint and chocolate are a perfect combo! You’re missing out on something great.

Followed the recipe pretty much exactly. However mine came out kind of flat and chewy, not crisp. I wonder if my butter was too soft or if my oven runs hot.

These turned out so good! The mint flavor is super noticeable but not overpowering, and the edges browning in 10–12 min is real. My dough was a little thick but it still dropped fine.

Question: when you “cream” butter and sugars, does it mean like 5 minutes? I just mixed until it looked kinda fluffy and it still worked.

Followed the recipe exactly and the texture was great. Next time I’ll chill the dough because it spread a bit on me.

I’m usually skeptical about mint + chocolate chip cookies, but wow. Super festive. Next time I’ll chill the dough for like 30 min because they spread a bit too much on my tray.

I tried these and mine spread a ton as well. I thought maybe I over-mixed the dough? Also, I used “peppermint flavor” instead of extract and it was stronger. Still tasty tho!

Same here—mint in cookies usually sounds weird to me, but this combo actually works. Chilling for 30 min is a great idea too; my first batch spread like crazy without it.

350°F is kinda suspicious… cookies always burn at that temp for me. Still, the flavor is nice and the chocolate chips helped.

Not a fan of mint sweets, sorry. The chocolate was good but the peppermint made it taste like toothpaste to me.
