BBQ Chicken Sliders

June 20, 2025

BBQ chicken sliders are the ultimate crowd-pleaser – small enough to serve as finger food, but packed with bold, smoky flavor that rivals any full-sized sandwich. These mini sandwiches bring together tender shredded chicken, tangy barbecue sauce, and soft slider buns for a combination that’s equal parts comforting and irresistible. Whether you’re hosting a game day party, a family gathering, or just craving a flavorful snack, BBQ chicken sliders fit the bill.

The beauty of BBQ chicken sliders lies in their simplicity. Pulled chicken is the heart of the dish, offering a juicy and hearty base that soaks up the barbecue sauce perfectly. You can use freshly cooked chicken or repurpose leftover roast or rotisserie chicken, making it a versatile option for busy weeknights or casual entertaining. The sauce is where the personality comes in – from sweet and smoky to spicy and bold, the flavor can be adjusted to match your taste or the tone of your event.

Sliders are also incredibly adaptable. You can keep them classic with just meat and sauce, or layer in extras like coleslaw, pickles, or even melty cheese. The crunch of slaw against the warm chicken adds texture and contrast, while pickles bring a vinegary pop that balances the richness of the barbecue. If you’re aiming for indulgent, a layer of melted cheddar or pepper jack takes these sliders to another level.

What makes them such a hit at parties is their grab-and-go nature. Guests can enjoy a few without feeling overly full, and the presentation – rows of mini sandwiches on a tray – is both inviting and fun. They’re also easy to scale up or down depending on the crowd.

BBQ chicken sliders are more than just a sandwich – they’re a bite-sized experience of savory, smoky comfort. Perfect for potlucks, summer picnics, or a cozy night in, they’re a delicious way to enjoy barbecue flavors any time of year.

I don’t get why people love BBQ so much, this was ok but really messy. Didn’t enjoy the onions.

  4. User avatar marcel.kessler41 says:

Isn’t BBQ chicken just chicken with BBQ sauce? Y’all calling it sliders is a stretch.

  5. 4 stars
So easy to make! I added some jalapeños for a kick. Will make again for sure!

  6. 2 stars
My kids refused to eat this. They said it was weird. 🥴

      4 stars
Maybe try using a different sauce or leaving out the onions? Kids can be picky! 🥳

  7. 3 stars
Pretty good, but I thought they were too saucy. Maybe try less BBQ sauce next time?

I don’t know about BBQ chicken on sliders. Seems messy. Wouldn’t a burger be better?

Yum! I gotta try these sliders. BBQ chicken is my fave! Thx for the recipe!

What is a slider?? Is it like a sandwich? 🤔

  10. User avatar terminatorXYZ says:

    3 stars
This recipe is confusing. Do I need to cook the chicken first or just use pre-cooked? Plus 12 sliders? Too many!

    1. User avatar ShanksOnePiece says:

      5 stars
I understand your confusion! You should use cooked chicken, like rotisserie. And don’t worry about making all 12 at once, you can save some for later!

  11. 4 stars
I made these last night, but I used beef instead of chicken. They were still good. lol

    1. User avatar keely.gerlach says:

      4 stars
Beef sounds like a fun twist! Did you use any special BBQ sauce?

  12. User avatar adina.leffler says:

    5 stars
Yum! Perfect for game day! I used rotisserie chicken to save time.

These sliders were a hit at my BBQ! Everyone loved them, especially with extra cheese.

    1. 5 stars
Sounds delicious! I gotta try this recipe for my next family gathering. Cheese makes everything better! 🧀

    2. User avatar gilberto.robel53 says:

      2 stars
I’m not sure if BBQ chicken and cheese go together. Seems kinda weird. Maybe I’ll stick to burgers.

  14. User avatar diana.wuckert2009 says:

    1 star
Okay but why are we putting cilantro in everything? 😂

    1. User avatar andrea.koelpin0 says:

      4 stars
Cilantro is just like a extra flavor bomb! It makes everything better, trust me! 😂✨

    2. 2 stars
I can’t stand cilantro! It tastes like soap to me! ugh.

  15. User avatar woodchuck says:

    2 stars
I dunno, my chicken turned out kinda dry. Did I cook it too long? Sigh.

    1. User avatar liberal.hero says:

      4 stars
Yeah, overcooking can definitely dry out chicken. Maybe try less time next time?

  16. User avatar lawrence.bergstrom47 says:

    3 stars
Dude, how can u call this BBQ if there’s no pineapple?! Just sayin’.

  17. User avatar fred.okuneva36 says:

    4 stars
Super easy recipe! I used store-bought BBQ sauce and it still tasted great. Will definitely make again!

  18. User avatar steve_maga says:

Total yum! My kids devoured them, like I mean they’re gone! 🐔🥪

  19. User avatar garret.halvorson78 says:

    2 stars
Broiler for 2-3 min? Mine burned in like 90 seconds 😭. That part needs more warning. Otherwise the flavor is decent. Next time I’ll tent with foil.

  20. User avatar nickolas.cronin says:

    5 stars
BBQ sauce is key here. I love how gooey it gets! 😍

  21. User avatar weston.mitchell42 says:

    4 stars
Super simple, my kids devoured them! Will definitely make again.

  22. User avatar scot.fritsch says:

    1 star
Why do you put cilantro? Makes it taste like soap! No thanks!

    1. User avatar kenyetta.bahringer72 says:

      5 stars
I totally get what you mean! Cilantro can be polarizing. If it tastes like soap to you, just leave it out. BBQ chicken sliders still sound yummy without it!

  23. User avatar Chuck Roast says:

    1 star
Way too much cheese to my liking. I prefer lighter food. Not for me.

    1. User avatar Dr. Tamesha Hauck says:

      4 stars
I get that! You could always reduce the cheese or leave it out completely. More BBQ sauce instead maybe?

    2. User avatar Yooden Vranx says:

      3 stars
Cheese makes everything better! But I guess we all have different tastes. What would you suggest instead?

  24. User avatar marylyn.reilly30 says:

    3 stars
I followed it pretty closely, but my cheese didn’t get very bubbly under the broiler. Maybe my broiler runs weak—still tasted good, just not as “melted” as I expected.

  25. 2 stars
I tried this but my BBQ sauce was super sweet so it came out cloying. Maybe use a tangier sauce next time. The cilantro was a nice touch though.

  26. User avatar tony.farrell32 says:

    4 stars
Didn’t have cilantro, used parsley instead. Still tasted good! 👍

    1. User avatar bobbie.boyer12 says:

      5 stars
I think parsley is a good substitute! Glad it worked out for you!

  27. User avatar blossom.hane61 says:

    3 stars
I’m skeptical about the broiler timing. 2–3 minutes was way too short for my oven—cheese wasn’t fully melted. Might be more like 4–5 minutes depending on the heat.

    1. User avatar roxann.kiehn33 says:

      5 stars
Totally agree—2–3 min under the broiler is super oven-dependent. Mine took closer to 5 until the cheese got properly melty and bubbly.

    2. 4 stars
2-3 minutes worked for me 🤷‍♀️ Maybe your rack position was off or the broiler isn’t as hot. I put it on high and watched it like a hawk.

  28. User avatar w00d_ch0p says:

    4 stars
Lol, never had BBQ chicken sliders before! But I’m willing to try. 😁

  29. 5 stars
Quick and easy weeknight meal. I used store-bought BBQ sauce and shredded rotisserie chicken just to save time—still worked great. Onion + cilantro really brightened it up.

  30. User avatar Daedric Prince says:

    3 stars
Not gonna lie, I’m skeptical about broiling sliders for only 2-3 minutes. Still, the cheese did melt fast and it tasted decent.

  31. User avatar rashad.streich13 says:

    5 stars
    Yum!!

  32. User avatar jame.jenkins80 says:

    2 stars
It’s okay. I think the broiler time should be shorter? Mine dried out after 3 minutes. Still edible, just not a repeat for me.

  33. User avatar corliss.keeling94 says:

    5 stars
My kids loved them. The cilantro on top is a nice fresh touch (I was skeptical at first). I used yellow onion because that’s what I had and it still worked.

  34. User avatar gerry.zulauf49 says:

    3 stars
Easy recipe but my chicken turned out dry. Maybe I cooked it too long? 🤔

  35. 5 stars
These turned out amazing—sticky, cheesy, and the cilantro/onion combo made it feel fresh instead of heavy. I broiled a minute less than suggested and it was perfect.

    1. 3 stars
Mmm sounds good but cilantro?? My family would riot 😅 Also I think I’d broil longer than 2-3 mins, cheese needs to brown more for me.

    2. User avatar marlon.gibson10 says:

      5 stars
Yes!! I love when it stays sticky but not overly heavy. Cilantro + onion is such a good move—I’m stealing that broil tip too.

  36. User avatar alphonso.thiel says:

    5 stars
Wow. Broiler cheese melt + sliders = instant party food. I served with coleslaw and the onions/cilantro made it feel fancy without effort.

  37. User avatar hollis.feeney25 says:

    5 stars
These sliders were a hit at my game night! Really easy to make. Thanks for sharing!

  38. 3 stars
I guess this is okay, but I prefer my chicken grilled.

  39. User avatar felipe.hermann88 says:

    5 stars
Yum! That BBQ sauce was perfect! Made it twice already!

    1. User avatar robert.block59 says:

      5 stars
Glad you liked it! I made them last week and they were a hit at my family dinner too!

  40. 5 stars
So quick to make and perfect for parties. Everyone loved them!

  41. User avatar Leto II Atreides says:

    1 star
This recipe is bad! Buns got soggy. Never again!!

    1. User avatar song.donnelly74 says:

      3 stars
I had the same problem! Mine got really soggy too. Maybe we need to tweak the recipe a bit.

  42. 2 stars
Not gonna lie, the instructions feel a little rushed. Like, how hot should the broiler be? And 12 buns from 1 lb chicken seems maybe tight? Mine was short by a couple.

  43. 2 stars
I messed up and forgot to top with onion/cilantro… still ate them, but they tasted flat. Don’t skip that step, folks.

  44. 3 stars
I dunno, my kids said it was too spicy. Should’ve used less BBQ sauce, I guess.

  45. User avatar Falmer Gloomlurker says:

    4 stars
I used turkey instead of chicken. Still turned out great!

  46. User avatar wellRespected says:

    3 stars
Good recipe, but my buns burnt! Keep an eye on ’em under the broiler!

    1. User avatar linette.hansen says:

      4 stars
Yeah, I always burn my food too! Gotta watch it closely! 😅

    2. User avatar Wellington Yueh says:

      2 stars
I don’t see how you burnt them. Just don’t use the broiler if you’re worried about it. Just bake them longer or something.

  47. User avatar ellsworth.oreilly26 says:

    4 stars
Delicious, but the cilantro is not my thing. Will skip it next time.

    1. User avatar Lunkwill and Fook says:

      4 stars
Really? I love cilantro! But I get it, some people just can’t stand it. Still, these sliders sound awesome without it too!

    2. User avatar Knights of Hyrule says:

      2 stars
Why would ya skip the cilantro? It’s like the best part! You should try it with a lil less next time instead!

  48. User avatar georgiana.durgan70 says:

    2 stars
Meh. Too saucy for me, and the red onion on top was kinda crunchy and sharp. Could use something like pickles or a sweeter BBQ sauce.

  49. 2 stars
Honestly, 12 buns is a lot—unless you’ve got a crowd. Also I used green onion instead of red and it was fine, just different flavor.

  50. User avatar damon.white78 says:

    1 star
Sliders? More like ‘sliders of sadness’. My kids didn’t even touch them! 😕

  51. User avatar Cliff Dickens says:

    2 stars
Barbecue chicken in slides?? I can’t wrap my head around it. Seems odd. But maybe worth trying.

  52. User avatar ernie.reynolds1971 says:

    5 stars
BBQ + Chicken = amazing combo! 5 stars from me! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

  53. User avatar NAFO.SUPREMACY says:

    5 stars
BBQ sauce makes everything better. 10/10 would recommend!

  54. 5 stars
YUM! So good! Used leftover chicken and it was just perfect!

  55. User avatar clemente.turcotte1979 says:

    4 stars
So easy. I used leftover rotisserie chicken and it tasted like I tried harder than I did. Broiled for exactly 2 minutes—spot on.

    1. 5 stars
Yes!! Broiling for exactly 2 minutes is the sweet spot—cheese gets bubbly without drying out the sliders. Love the leftover rotisserie chicken hack too.

  56. 2 stars
Just ok. Needs more flavor. Maybe add some spices next time?

    1. 5 stars
I agree! A pinch of cayenne or some smoked paprika could make a big difference. 🔥

  57. User avatar christian.conroy1960 says:

    4 stars
Pretty good, but I’d add a little salt/pepper to the chicken mix. Also my buns got a bit too toasty at 3 minutes, so I’d watch them closely.

  58. 5 stars
Made these for game night—so easy and everyone went back for seconds. The broiler step really makes the cheese perfect.

    1. User avatar kaycee.hettinger says:

      5 stars
Totally agree on the broiler part—cheese gets that perfect bubbly top. I added a little garlic powder to the chicken too and it was even better. Made these for game night too and they disappeared fast 😄

  59. User avatar kent.boyer69 says:

    1 star
What’s BBQ sauce? Can I use ketchup instead? Asking for a friend.

  60. User avatar vincent.runolfsson31 says:

    2 stars
Only 1 lb of chicken? Should be more like 2. Absurd.

    1. 4 stars
I think 1 lb is enough! The BBQ sauce and cheese will make it super flavorful. Plus, gotta balance how many sliders you want, right?

    2. User avatar lorean.smith81 says:

      3 stars
Nah, 1 lb is fine. Who needs more chicken? It’ll be juicy with the sauce anyway.

  61. User avatar chi.monahan says:

    5 stars
These sliders were a hit at my BBQ! Everyone loved them! 🍗

  62. User avatar janine.schroeder82 says:

    4 stars
Cilantro is doing the most here (in a good way). Also 12 buns is the perfect batch size. Will make again for sure.

    1. 5 stars
Yes!! Cilantro really makes it pop. I’m stealing that “doing the most” line 😂

  63. 5 stars
These sliders were a hit at my BBQ! Everyone loved them, thanks!

    1. User avatar Twisted Fate says:

      5 stars
Glad to hear it was a hit! These sliders are super easy to make yet so yummy!

    2. User avatar roger.hickle90 says:

      3 stars
I dunno, I tried it and it was just OK. Maybe I didn’t cook it right? But I thought they could use more flavor.

  64. User avatar valentine.schoen says:

    2 stars
Too much cheddar, I thought it was too cheesy. 🤷‍♂️

  65. User avatar audrey.hackett57 says:

    2 stars
I don’t know why everyone is raving about these. The chicken was dry and the sauce was too sweet.

    1. 5 stars
I totally disagree! When I made these, the chicken was juicy and the sauce just right! Maybe try a different BBQ sauce?

    2. User avatar carson.pouros says:

      4 stars
Honestly, I thought they were pretty good too. Just a bit too sweet for my taste, but not dry at all. Everyone’s taste buds are different!

  66. 4 stars
Super easy to make! I added some jalapeños for a kick! 🌶️

    1. User avatar lamont.kihn24 says:

      5 stars
Sounds awesome! I love adding a little spice to my meals. Jalapeños are a great idea! 🌶️👌

  67. User avatar sherwood.tremblay97 says:

Yummy! Made them for a potluck and they disappeared fast. Everyone loved them!

  68. User avatar ervin.gislason47 says:

Made these for game night and they were gone fast. The BBQ + cheddar combo is perfect, and the red onion/cilantro really brightens it up!

  69. User avatar smartestRedditor says:

    3 stars
Why do you use shredded cheddar? Provolone would be way better. Just saying!

  70. User avatar Questular Rontok says:

    5 stars
These came out super tasty—sweet BBQ with melty cheddar was perfect. I broiled mine closer to 3 minutes and the tops got nice and bubbly. Would absolutely make again!
