Cheeseburger and Fries Casserole

July 29, 2024

Cheeseburger and Fries Casserole is the kind of dish that brings everyone to the table. It takes two of the most loved American comfort foods and blends them into a warm, bubbly, cheesy bake that’s as easy to serve as it is to devour. If you’re looking for a dinner idea that satisfies cravings and keeps cleanup to a minimum, this casserole delivers big flavor with minimal effort.

At the heart of the dish is well-seasoned ground beef, cooked with onions and garlic for a flavor base that echoes a classic cheeseburger. A bit of ketchup, mustard, and Worcestershire sauce gives the beef mixture that familiar tangy richness you’d expect from a burger fresh off the grill. This layer goes into a baking dish and gets topped with shredded cheese, usually cheddar, for that gooey, melty goodness everyone loves.

But the real twist comes on top. Instead of sandwich buns or a crust, frozen French fries are spread across the casserole in a generous layer. As the dish bakes, the fries turn golden and crisp, soaking up some of the flavor from the beef and cheese beneath. It’s a fun, unexpected topping that makes every bite a little more exciting.

One of the best parts of this casserole is how easy it is to customize. Add pickles, diced tomatoes, or cooked bacon to the beef layer to switch things up. Use pepper jack cheese for a bit of heat, or mix in some sautéed mushrooms for an earthy twist. Once baked, serve it with a simple salad or even extra burger toppings like chopped lettuce and sliced red onion to round out the meal.

Cheeseburger and Fries Casserole is a true comfort dish. It’s filling, family-friendly, and packed with familiar flavors that make it feel like home. Whether you’re feeding a crowd or just want leftovers that actually get eaten, this dish is a guaranteed hit.

Who thought hotdog buns would be the bottom? I used hamburger buns instead! Still good tho.

Followed the recipe to a T, but it came out kinda greasy. Maybe drain more beef next time?

    1. User avatar kym.larson64 says:

I dunno about that. I’ve only ever used bread or tortillas for casseroles. Hotdog buns seem like a whole different thing. Just sounds odd.

Delicious! But I think this is not a casserole…? More like a messy burger bake.

    1. 4 stars
I totally get what you’re saying! It’s more like a cheesy beef pile than a casserole. But it’s sooo good!

    2. 5 stars
Nah, I think it’s definitely a casserole. Just ’cause it’s a little messy doesn’t mean it’s not. Don’t knock it till you try it!

I’m not a fan of hotdog buns but I used regular bread and it was still decent!

    1. User avatar justina.mraz says:

I actually think it sounds better with regular bread! Hotdog buns can be a bit too soft sometimes. Glad it worked out for you!
