Vegetable dumplings are a delicious, bite-sized treat that’s packed with flavor and nutrition. Whether you’re looking for a vegetarian appetizer, a light meal, or a party snack, these dumplings are the perfect choice. Filled with a variety of fresh vegetables and wrapped in a delicate dough, they’re as satisfying as they are versatile. They can be steamed, boiled, or pan-fried, depending on your preference, and they pair wonderfully with a tangy dipping sauce.
The filling for vegetable dumplings typically includes finely chopped vegetables like cabbage, carrots, mushrooms, and onions, which create a nice balance of sweetness, crunch, and umami. You can also add some garlic, ginger, and soy sauce to enhance the flavors and give the filling an aromatic, savory kick. The combination of vegetables not only makes the dumplings flavorful but also adds a great variety of textures, making each bite exciting.
To make the dumplings, start by preparing the filling. Sauté the vegetables lightly to soften them and bring out their flavors, then let them cool before wrapping them in dumpling wrappers. You can buy pre-made dumpling wrappers from most grocery stores, or if you’re feeling adventurous, you can make your own. Simply spoon a small amount of filling into the center of each wrapper and fold it into a half-moon shape, sealing the edges tightly with a little water.
These vegetable dumplings can be cooked in a variety of ways. If you prefer a soft texture, steaming is the best option, as it keeps the dumplings moist and tender. For a crispy, golden exterior, pan-frying is a great choice, giving you a satisfying crunch with a tender center. Boiling is another option if you prefer them soft without the crispiness.
Serve these vegetable dumplings with a dipping sauce made from soy sauce, rice vinegar, and a dash of sesame oil for a perfect balance of salty, tangy, and nutty flavors. You can also add a bit of chili paste if you like some heat.
Whether you’re enjoying them as an appetizer or a main dish, vegetable dumplings are a delightful, wholesome, and flavorful meal option.

Good flavor, but I didn’t like the texture of the cabbage. Maybe try spinach next time?
These dumplings were amazing! I added some garlic to the filling and they turned out delicious! Definitely making again.
Yum, garlic is a great idea! I can’t wait to try that. Thanks for sharing your twist!
But like, did you really need to add garlic? The original recipe is already good. I feel like that’s too much.
I tried this recipe, but the dumplings fell apart while cooking… not sure what I did wrong. Any tips?
Dumplings can be tricky, but maybe you just need to let them cool a bit before handling? Or possibly steam them longer?
I had the same issue once! Maybe try not overfilling the dumplings and making sure to seal them tightly. That helped me.
Best recipe ever!!! I’ll make this every week! 🌟
This sounds amazing! I love dumplings! Can’t wait to try it. 😊
Every week? Really? I mean, how good can veggie dumplings be? 🤨
dumb recipe, too many steps, just buy frozen ones.
Easy to follow! I made these for my kids and they loved them. Thank you!
Why do you put cabbage in dumplings? Just use more carrots! 😡
Cabbage adds a nice crunch! You should give it a try. 😊
But carrots can be too sweet. Cabbage balances it out! 😅
I don’t have any sesame oil. Can I use olive oil instead? Thanks.
These dumplings were sooo good! I added some garlic and it made them even better. Will definitely make again.
These turned out amazing—ginger-y? not sure, but the sesame oil smell is everything. My wrappers actually stayed sealed too. 10/10 for a weeknight dinner.
Yesss sesame oil really carries these—gingery or not, that aroma is so good. Glad your wrappers sealed up too!
I tried this recipe and it was ok. Didn’t really like the texture of the mushrooms, will try with something else next time.
I totally get what you mean about the mushrooms! They’re kinda slimy sometimes. Have you thought about using broccoli or bell peppers instead?
What? The mushrooms are the best part! Maybe you just cooked them wrong?
I think I cooked them too long… the wrappers were chewy. Next time, I’ll watch the steamer.
Happens to the best of us! Just keep experimenting! Next time, maybe try shorter steaming times.
I didn’t have soy sauce, so I used ketchup… not a good idea. They were kinda gross. 😬
I didn’t have mushrooms so I used extra cabbage and some zucchini. Kinda worked, but the filling was wetter than I expected. Still yummy.
Wait… zucchini in dumplings? 😅 I guess it works, but wetter than expected sounds like too much moisture. I’d try cooking the veg first to dry it out—raw filling usually turns watery. Still, respect for improvising.
That makes sense—cabbage and zucchini both hold more water than mushrooms. Next time maybe squeeze the zucchini (and even the cabbage) a bit so the filling doesn’t get soupy. Glad it was still yummy!
Can you freeze these after making? I want to make a big batch but not sure how to store them.
I didn’t chop the cabbage fine enough and it was noticeable—like little crunchy bits. But overall a solid veggie dumpling vibe.
This recipe works great with chicken if you wanna add meat!
I don’t know, seems too bland to me. Maybe needs some spices?
Can I fry these instead? Steaming sounds boring.
Dumplings good but shouldn’t have used that brand of wrappers. Poopy.
Poopy? Really? I thought the wrappers were fine! Maybe it’s just your taste?
I totally agree! The brand of wrappers can really change the taste. I always go for the homemade ones.
Really good! My kids even liked them! Will make for school lunches!
This recipe seems complicated. Can’t we just fry them? Steaming is too much work.
I don’t usually like veggies but I ate all of these! Surprising!!
Just another dumpling recipe. I’ve seen way better ones.
They didn’t look like the picture at all, but tasted fine. A little bland for me tho. Needs salt.
Soo easy! But mine fell apart while cooking. What went wrong?
Maybe you overfilled them? Just a tiny bit of stuffing works best, I think!
I tried making this, but my wrappers broke. 🤦♂️ What did I do wrong?
I had the same issue. I think my wrappers were too dry. Maybe try moistening them a bit before you fill? 🤔
Sounds like you might’ve overfilled the wrappers! Try less filling next time, and make sure to really seal the edges. 😊
I don’t get the hype. Tasted just okay to me. Do dumplings even need vegetables?
I think vegetables are key! They add flavor and texture. Maybe you didn’t use enough seasoning?
5 stars!!! I never knew I could make dumplings. I feel like a chef now!
That’s awesome! I love when a recipe makes us feel like pros in the kitchen. Keep cooking!
These dumplings are great for a meatless meal! Will make again.
Yummy. Will make again! 😍 Better then resting with my feet. LOL.
I mean, they were okay, but I’ve had better. Not sure what the fuss is about. 🤷♂️
I totally agree! These dumplings are a game changer! 😋
This is just like my grandma used to make but she called them buns, it’s delicious!
Okay so… I’m not a dumpling person, but this recipe made me look kinda competent. The sealing with water was the key for me.
I mean… I followed it but mine were kind of bland. Also I didn’t know if “1 pack wrappers” meant wonton or gyoza or what. Still tasted okay, tho. Maybe next time I’ll add more soy sauce.
Yes! That little water trick is everything. I tried other dumpling recipes before and they just popped open like 😅 These came out great and looked way more “pro” than I expected.
Super easy to make! Just like my grandma used to make! Took me back to my childhood! ❤️
I tried making these last night, and they turned out great! Just like my mom used to make them. 😋
Not sure why people love these so much. They seemed kinda bland to me. Maybe I did something wrong?
Dumplings, what dumplings? Never cooked before, gave it a shot, and they weren’t that bad! 😅
How long do I steam them tho?? I don’t wanna mess this up 😫
Uh, I think it’s like 20 minutes? I usually just guess, lol.
You should steam them for about 8-10 minutes! Just keep an eye on them, you’ll do great! 😊
So delicious! I added some ginger and garlic, and now they are my favorite snack!
I thought I was going to mess it up, but it worked out fine! Lots of fun making these.
Mess up? Nah, these are super easy! Just like making a sandwich, right? But did you really steam them enough?
I’m so glad to hear that! These dumplings can be tricky, but practice makes perfect. What did you think of the filling?
These dumplings are amazing! The flavor is just perfect. Easy to make too.
These dumplings are amazing! I made them for my family and they loved them. Will definitely be making again!
Very simple and tasty! My kids helped and we had a blast. A bit messy but worth it!
Sounds like a fun time! I bet the kids loved getting their hands dirty. Can’t wait to try this recipe!
My first time making dumplings and they turned out great! Super easy to follow the instructions. Thx!
Wow! I am not a cook, but these were really simple to make! Will definitely make again.
Too much cabbage! I think you should reduce it. It’s all I could taste!
I think they need more flavor. Maybe add garlic or ginger?
I totally agree! Garlic and ginger would really kick it up a notch! 🤤
Nah, I think the flavor is fine as is. Everything doesn’t need more seasoning! Just eat it straight up. 😒
These dumplings were so good! Even my picky kid loved them!
I think these are too bland for my taste. Needs more spices or something. I wouldn’t make them again.
Not gonna lie, 1 cup mushrooms seems like a lot—my filling was a bit watery even after chopping fine. Next time I’ll squeeze the mushrooms dry.
Not gonna lie, I was skeptical about veggie dumplings being filling, but they are. The mushroom/cabbage mix gives a really satisfying bite.
Whuttt?? No way these are gonna taste good without chicken or somethin! No thanks.
So easy! I’m not the best cook and even I could fold them. I got better at sealing each one. Everyone asked for the recipe.
Yummy! I made these with my kids and we had so much fun folding them together. So cute!
These dumplings are delicious! I didn’t have mushrooms, so I used zucchini instead and they turned out great!
Zucchini instead of mushrooms? Sounds interesting! I might try that. Thanks for the tip!
But using zucchini isn’t really the same? Mushrooms give a different flavor, don’t they? Just saying.
Dumplings are my fave, but this recipe is a little too complicated for me. I’m more of a takeout person.
My kids loved them! Perfect for after school snacks.
So easy to make! I added garlic and ginger for extra flavor, and it was awesome!
Mine turned out a little soggy, I think I over-steamed. Also I packed the filling too thick. Still edible and the seasoning was nice.
Not gonna lie, I was skeptical about steaming only 8-10 minutes. But they came out tender—just wish the filling had more moisture so it didn’t taste dry.
Just 8-10 min? I steamed mine for like 30 and they were still not soft enough!
Maybe your steamer is not hot enough? I always find 10 min is enough. Steaming longer can make the wrappers soggy.
Super yum! I could eat a whole bunch of these! 😋
I followed the recipe, but the wrappers just fell apart. I might need to try a different brand.
I added some ginger and garlic to the mix, taste was bomb! Highly recommend! 🌟
These dumplings are pretty good, but I think the filling is a bit bland. Needs a spice or two!
I totally agree! A little garlic or ginger would really boost the flavor!
I dunno, I thought they were fine. Maybe your taste buds just need more seasoning?
These dumplings are amazing! Great flavor, my whole family loved them. Will definitely make again!
My dumplings opened up a bit—maybe I didn’t press the edges hard enough. Also I used too much filling and it overstuffed. Lesson learned.
I found the wrapper to be a bit tricky. I ended up tearing a few. Maybe there’s a better way to seal them?
Easy to follow! I’ll just use frozen veggies next time to save time.
I don’t think frozen ones taste the same tho. Fresh is always better for dumplings.
Using frozen veggies is a great idea! Saves so much time, plus they can be just as good!
5 stars for versatility! You can add anything you like, even leftover veggies!
These turned out so tasty! The sesame oil really makes the veggie filling feel rich. My dumplings sealed great once I used enough water on the edges.
I used pre-shredded veggies and it still worked. Steaming time was about 9 minutes for me. Next time I’ll add a little garlic or ginger for extra punch.
I forgot the sesame oil 😢. Still turned out ok, but I think it would be better with it.
Not great. The veg seemed soggy. I think I like my dumplings with meat.
I actually really love these dumplings! The veggies are so fresh. Maybe you overcooked them?
Meat dumplings are the best for sure! But they also can be greasy. Give the veg ones another try with less steaming maybe?
Yum! I love them dumplings. Gonna make again.
I followed the steps, but my wrappers tore when I tried to seal them. Maybe I used a wrapper brand that’s thinner? Still tasted good though.
The wrappers fell apart when I boiled them, not sure what happened. Maybe I did something wrong?
My kids loved these dumplings and they’re picky eaters! Thanks for the recipe!
I’m impressed with how simple it is. I added a little garlic and it bumped the flavor a lot—would totally make again.
Totally agree—simple recipes that still taste amazing are the best. I’ve done a little garlic too and it really wakes everything up.
These dumplings are delicious! I love the flavor of the sesame oil!
Wow—so good. Dumplings are my comfort food, and this veggie version doesn’t feel boring at all. 10/10.
These dumplings are genuis! So good and easy to make.
They seem cool, but I don’t really trust veggie dumplings. Where’s the meat?
I totally agree! These dumplings are super tasty and I love how simple the recipe is!
Too much cabbage! I think they could use more mushrooms and less cabbage. Gonna try reducing it next time. 😅
Idk, sounds vegan. Not my thing. 🤔
I followed it exactly and they were edible, but the wrappers got a little gummy on the bottom from steaming too long. Next time I’ll do closer to 8 minutes.
Great for a vegan option, but I personally think they need a bit more flavor.
I agree! A little garlic or ginger could really bring these to life. 🌱
Not gonna lie, I didn’t have mushrooms so I subbed zucchini. It worked, but it tasted wetter—maybe squeeze the veg next time.
Try using less cabbage. It was too crunchy for me.
I don’t like mushrooms, can I leave them out? Don’t wanna waste the ingredients.
I tried this recipe but it was kinda confusing. How do you fold the dumplings like in the pictures? I got a bit messy.
I didn’t have soy sauce, so I used balsamic vinegar instead… it was a disaster! 😅
I don’t get it, why aren’t these fried? I mean, steamed? What’s up with that? 😒
Meh. I’ve tasted better. Not worth the effort in my opinion. Just go buy some frozen ones.
I didn’t have mushrooms, used peas instead. Still yummy!
Glad you enjoyed it with peas! Sometimes you gotta improvise, right?
Peas instead of mushrooms?? I dunno, that sounds kinda weird. Mushrooms are more… flavorful.
Kinda bland for my taste. I added some chili flakes and that helped a bit.
These are the best dumplings I ever made! Super easy and delicious!
They’re like little bags of veggie happiness! Yummyyyy!
The filling ratio seems off to me—1 cup cabbage + 1 cup carrots + 1 cup mushrooms feels like too much for one pack of wrappers. I had extra filling and my dumplings were smaller than expected.
5 stars. Easy. Dumpling time. Yummy.
Is it really necessary to steam them? I fried mine. They turned out okay but not great.
Not bad, but I added some ginger and garlic for extra kick. Maybe try that!
Ginger and garlic sound like a good idea! I might try that next time. Thanks for the tip!
Bleh, adding ginger n garlic is just too much! Dumplings are good as is!
Does anyone know how to make the dipping sauce? I want somethin’ tangy!
These dumplings were sooo good! I couldn’t stop eating them. Will def make again!
Kinda bland for my taste. The soy sauce helps, but I think it needs more seasoning like salt/pepper, and maybe some green onions. Otherwise it’s fine.
Yeah I get that—mine used to taste “meh” too until I added a pinch more salt and some black pepper. Green onions would definitely make it pop!
Love it!!! Yum!!
I made these yesterday! They were so good, my kids even ate them! Thanks for the recipe!
Good enough! Not my favorite, but I appreciate the healthy option. 👌
Good base recipe, but I think ‘wrappers translucent’ is vague. Mine were still a little too chewy at 10 minutes, so I’ll steam longer next time.
Totally agree—“wrappers translucent” is a bit fuzzy. Mine usually look slightly shiny and softening around the edges at ~10 minutes, but 12–13 is safer depending on the brand. Good call on steaming longer!
Wait, translucent?? Mine were never really see-through, more like they just got puffy. I steamed 10 min and mine were chewy too. Next time I’ll try boiling them?? or maybe I did something wrong with sealing lol.
I followed the recipe pretty closely. Cutting the cabbage super fine mattered—otherwise the texture is a bit chunky. Sesame oil taste is strong in a good way.
Totally agree about the cabbage—fine chop makes a huge difference. I also like that sesame oil “shows up” instead of getting lost. Great call following it closely!
Hmm, I tried once and mine were still chunky even when I chopped “pretty small.” Maybe my wrappers were thicker? Also 1 tbsp sesame oil felt like a lot—strong is fine but next time I’ll do maybe 1 tsp.
Yum! Made these for a party and they were the star of the show! ❤️
Honestly, I was skeptical at first. How could just veggies taste so good? But wow, I was wrong! Will make again!
Really? Just veggies? I bet they don’t taste as good as meat dumplings. But if you liked it, that’s cool I guess.
I’m glad you tried it! Veggies can be super tasty when prepared right. What’s your favorite part of the dumplings?
Way too salty for my taste—maybe because I used regular soy sauce instead of low-sodium. If you’re sensitive, cut the soy sauce.
Good call on the low-sodium swap. I didn’t think it would matter that much, but next time I’ll cut it or add a splash less sesame oil too.
Totally agree—2 tbsp soy sauce is a lot if you’re using regular. I started doing 1 tbsp and it was way better.
Yummy! 😋 But I used too much soy sauce and it got salty. Be careful!
