Turkey Tacos

November 20, 2024

Turkey tacos are a delicious, lighter twist on the classic taco, offering all the bold, savory flavors you love with lean ground turkey as the star. They’re quick to make, incredibly versatile, and perfect for a weeknight dinner, taco night with friends, or even meal prep for the week ahead.

The ground turkey is seasoned with a flavorful blend of spices like cumin, chili powder, paprika, garlic powder, and oregano. A touch of lime juice or tomato paste can be added to brighten the flavors and give the meat that slightly tangy, juicy finish. Some versions also include onions, bell peppers, or jalapeños sautéed right into the meat for extra flavor and texture.

The beauty of turkey tacos is how customizable they are. Fill crispy taco shells or soft tortillas with the seasoned turkey, then load them up with your favorite toppings. Classic options include shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, cheese, sour cream, and sliced avocado. For a fresher spin, top them with corn salsa, pickled onions, cilantro, and a squeeze of fresh lime.

If you want to add even more variety, turkey taco meat works great in taco bowls, lettuce wraps, nachos, or stuffed into bell peppers for a low-carb option. It’s a protein-packed filling that adapts to whatever you’re craving.

Pair your turkey tacos with sides like Mexican rice, black beans, or a simple corn and avocado salad. For drinks, they go perfectly with a cold cerveza, margarita, sparkling lime water, or a crisp white wine like Sauvignon Blanc.

Light, flavorful, and satisfying, turkey tacos prove that a healthier option doesn’t have to sacrifice flavor. Whether you’re cooking for family or entertaining friends, they’re always a crowd-pleaser that comes together in under 30 minutes.

Turkey tacos? Why not just use beef?? I feel like they taste better. But, I guess this is a healthier option if that’s what ya want.

I dunno, I tried this recipe but it came out kinda bland. I added hot sauce and it was better. Maybe more spices next time?

How do you even make this with only that? It seems too simple.

  6. 3 stars
Turkey instead of beef? Never! Tried it and it was surprisingly good, but I’m still a beef fan.

These tacos came out really flavorful and not greasy at all. I used mild taco seasoning and it still had a nice kick. Would definitely make again!

Yes!! Love hearing they weren’t greasy—my turkey always turns out kinda watery sometimes. What kind of taco seasoning brand did you use (or just “mild”)?

    2. User avatar Rob McKenna says:

      4 stars
Mild seasoning giving a “kick” is interesting—maybe it depends on the brand. I tried tacos with corn tortillas once and mine got kinda dry, so I usually microwave them with a damp paper towel. Yours any different?

Honestly, this recipe is straight up dependable. I like that it’s simple and doesn’t require weird ingredients. Tacos should taste like tacos.

I dunno, these were kinda bland. I think it needs more spice or something. Not sure if I’ll try again.

Meh. Tasted like plain turkey with seasoning. Needs more spice or something crunchy.

Followed the instructions but the meat was dry. More water next time?

  12. 4 stars
I kinda thought this would be bland, but it was surprisingly good! My kids devoured it!

These tacos are so good! My family loved them. Will definitely make again.

One packet seasoning feels like too much for 1 lb turkey unless you like it salty. Also, I accidentally used flour tortillas… but it still tasted alright.

These tacos were amazing! My kids loved them.

  16. 3 stars
My family liked it, but my tortillas tore a bit when I warmed them. I think my microwave was too long—still, the toppings (cheddar/lettuce/tomato) saved it.

    Taco good!

Dude, I don’t even have the ground turkey, can I use beef?

Honestly, don’t use turkey. Beef is way better for tacos, just saying!
