Strawberry Spinach Salad

January 13, 2025

Strawberry Spinach Salad is a fresh, vibrant dish that perfectly balances sweet, savory, and tangy flavors. It’s an ideal choice for spring and summer gatherings or as a light, healthy meal any time of year. The core of the salad is tender baby spinach, which provides a nutrient-rich, slightly earthy base. Juicy, ripe strawberries add a burst of natural sweetness and color, creating a beautiful contrast on the plate.

What makes this salad especially appealing is its versatility. You can keep it simple with just spinach and strawberries, or enhance it with complementary ingredients like crumbled feta or goat cheese for a creamy tang, sliced almonds or candied pecans for crunch, and red onion for a sharp bite. Some variations also include avocado, grilled chicken, or quinoa for added protein and substance.

The dressing is equally important. A classic choice is a homemade balsamic vinaigrette made with olive oil, balsamic vinegar, honey or maple syrup, and Dijon mustard. This sweet-and-tangy dressing ties all the ingredients together and brings out the natural flavor of the strawberries.

Not only is Strawberry Spinach Salad delicious, but it’s also incredibly nutritious. Spinach is loaded with vitamins A and C, iron, and antioxidants. Strawberries provide vitamin C, fiber, and additional antioxidants, supporting immune health and skin vitality. The salad is naturally gluten-free and can easily be made vegan or dairy-free, depending on the toppings and dressing.

Whether served as a side dish or a main course, Strawberry Spinach Salad is a crowd-pleaser. It’s quick to prepare, visually stunning, and refreshingly light—perfect for picnics, potlucks, or a weekday lunch. With its mix of textures and flavors, this salad offers a delightful experience in every bite, making it a staple recipe for healthy, seasonal eating.

This salad is so refreshing! Perfect for summer picnics. I ended up doubling the strawberries. Yum!

  2. 3 stars
I don’t see how spinach and strawberries go together… But my wife tried it and loved it. Maybe I need to taste it myself?

    1. User avatar tona.mcdermott85 says:

You should definitely give it a try! The sweetness of the strawberries really complements the spinach. It’s actually a popular pairing! 😊

I don’t get why people add feta to everything. It kinda ruins the taste for me.

    1. User avatar jeffery.reilly20 says:

      5 stars
I totally disagree! Feta adds a great kick to any salad. You should give it another try!

  4. User avatar wesley.satterfield says:

    3 stars
The ingredient list is short, which I appreciate, but 2 cups spinach seems like not enough for a whole meal. Also I don’t have walnuts—would almonds work?

  5. User avatar rickiestmorty says:

    2 stars
I’m skeptical about fruit in salad, but okay… the feta helped. Still, I think 1 cup strawberries might be too much. Next time I’ll do half.

  6. User avatar andrea.wiza20 says:

Isn’t spinach supposed to be cooked? Why are we eating it raw??

  7. 3 stars
Idk, it looks good but spinach is such a weird texture. Not sure if I can handle it?

  8. User avatar Ilban Richese says:

    5 stars
    So healthy. Love it!

  9. 3 stars
I tried this recipe but I addd some chicken for protein. It was okay, but I’m not a huge fan of feta.

  10. User avatar josephine.jacobs68 says:

    2 stars
Didn’t like it. I prefer my salads with meat. If I wanted fruit, I would have eaten a fruit salad.

  11. User avatar suspiciousCommentator says:

    3 stars
I think the balsamic vinaigrette was a bit too strong. Maybe I’ll just use olive oil next time.

  12. User avatar julian.abbott81 says:

This is just a salad… like… what’s the big deal? I feel like people overhype these things.

    1. User avatar lorraine.dubuque says:

I get what you’re saying, but it’s not just a salad. The combo of flavors is really nice! Plus, it’s super healthy!

A salad’s a salad man, who cares? Just throw some stuff together and call it a day! 😂

None of the salads I make taste this good! You know what? I even added some chicken to mine. YUM!

  14. User avatar Super Saiyan Goku says:

    5 stars
Super easy and looks fancy for basically zero effort. The walnuts add a nice crunch that actually balances the fruit.

  15. User avatar sammy.bergstrom10 says:

    2 stars
I don’t know about this combo. Spinach and strawberries? Sounds weird to me. But I guess some might like it.

  16. User avatar hollis.konopelski1996 says:

    4 stars
Pretty tasty, but I’d use a little more dressing. Also, I toasted the walnuts too long once and they turned bitter—watch that.

  17. 5 stars
Great recipe! super quick and healthy. My kids actually ate their greens!

  18. User avatar floretta.welch says:

    2 stars
I tried it and my salad turned into mush… like the spinach wilted real fast. Also I forgot to toast the walnuts and it tasted bland. Maybe I did something wrong.

    1. User avatar Flame Atronach says:

      3 stars
Sounds like you pretty much followed the recipe… except the walnuts weren’t toasted and you prob left it sitting? I mean, spinach wilts when it touches anything wet, so the balsamic can make it sad fast. Maybe add less dressing or chill the dressing? Not sure, but “serve immediately” is real.

    2. User avatar Jan Becker says:

      4 stars
Oh no—yeah, that “mushy” spinach part is super common if you toss too long or don’t serve right away. I always dress last and give it just a gentle toss, then serve immediately. Also toasting walnuts really helps the flavor a lot—nothing wrong with your instincts! Next time try that and see if it firms up.

  19. 5 stars
This salad is so fresh and tasty! Perfect for summer meals. I added some grilled chicken to mine.

This salad is delicious! The sweetness of the strawberries with the feta is perfect.

    1. User avatar rolland.little94 says:

I totally agree! The combo of strawberries and feta is like a match made in heaven! 😍

  22. User avatar augusta.romaguera5 says:

    3 stars
The directions are straightforward, but 1/4 cup walnuts felt a little stingy. Also my spinach was kind of soggy after tossing—maybe I should dry it better.

    1. User avatar wan.collins1951 says:

      5 stars
Totally get that—1/4 cup walnuts can feel a bit stingy, especially if you like crunch. I usually bump it to 1/3 or even 1/2 cup and it still tastes great.

    2. User avatar lorelei.bauch says:

      4 stars
Maybe it’s your spinach, not you 😅 I always pat it SUPER dry or even spin it in a salad spinner. If it’s wet, the balsamic vinaigrette kinda makes it go soggy fast. (Also I think toasting walnuts helps a lot.)

  23. 4 stars
Easy and pretty. I used almonds instead of walnuts because that’s what I had, and it still worked. Wouldn’t mind a little more dressing next time.

    1. 5 stars
Love this! Almonds sound like a great swap—nice crunch. And yes, I agree, I usually add a bit more dressing too since the spinach seems to drink it up. Next time I’ll go a little heavier and toss again right before serving.

  24. User avatar geoWizard says:

    4 stars
I’m not sure about putting berries in a salad with nuts and cheese… but honestly it wasn’t bad. Next time I’ll cut the strawberries smaller so every bite has everything.

  25. 3 stars
Not bad, but I found it a bit heavy on the sweetness. Also, my spinach was still a little wet after rinsing so the vinaigrette got diluted.

  26. User avatar Lumberjack says:

    1 star
Do they even call this a salad? It’s like a fruit cup with leaves LOL.

  27. User avatar abdul.lubowitz1967 says:

    4 stars
Fresh ingredients make all the difference. I always use organic spinach; it tastes better!

  28. User avatar Elaine Wuckert says:

    3 stars
I followed it exactly, but mine tasted a bit too tart from the vinaigrette. I think I’d go lighter on the dressing next time.

  29. User avatar Ashly Waelchi says:

    2 stars
Wasn’t a fan, too many nuts for my taste. Next time I might skip the walnuts.

  30. User avatar anton.rice75 says:

    5 stars
I added some grilled chicken to make it more filling. It was great! A healthy meal.

  31. 2 stars
Not my cup of tea…but my mom loves this sort of stuff. To each their own, right?

  32. User avatar jeremy.erdman says:

    4 stars
Very easy, very tasty. I didn’t have walnuts so I used pecans and it still worked great.

  33. User avatar Bilbo Baggins says:

    2 stars
Not gonna lie, I expected it to taste “weird.” It kinda did at first, then I got used to it? Maybe need more dressing or something.

  34. 5 stars
This is such a fresh, bright combo—strawberries + spinach is way better than I expected. The feta really makes it pop!

    1. User avatar granville.mckenzie19 says:

      5 stars
Totally agree—this combo surprised me too. The feta + balsamic together is the real magic. I add a few extra strawberries and it’s even better!

  35. User avatar joe_banana says:

    5 stars
This salad is sooo good! I never thought of combining strawberries with spinach. The balsamic vinaigrette is perfection!

    1. User avatar blair.kuvalis13 says:

      5 stars
I totally agree! This combo is mind-blowing. Gonna try it for sure!

  36. User avatar liberal.hero says:

    3 stars
Okay recipe but kinda boring? I think some croutons would help a lot. Just my thoughts!

    1. 3 stars
Boring? I think the flavors are fine as is! Sometimes less is more, you know?

    2. User avatar pa.mosciski19 says:

      5 stars
I totally agree with you! Croutons would add some nice crunch to it. 😋

  37. 3 stars
Looks pretty, but spinach wilts fast. I think “serve immediately” is real advice—mine got soggy by the time I sat down.

  38. User avatar maryrose.goyette65 says:

    4 stars
just made dis salad for family. they loved it!!! simple yet fancy. yesss!!

  39. User avatar Piter De Vries says:

    4 stars
I made this for lunch and it was actually super easy. The walnuts add a nice crunch. Next time I’ll slice the strawberries a bit thinner.

    1. User avatar wes.shanahan2018 says:

      5 stars
Yes! I love how fast this is—kind of feel-good for lunch. Thin-slicing the strawberries sounds like the move for more even bites. 🍓🥗

  40. User avatar bradley.konopelski98 says:

    5 stars
I made this for my BBQ, and everyone loved it! It was the first dish gone! Thank you for such a great recipe.

  41. User avatar yung.oconner98 says:

Wat is feta cheese? Can I use cheddar instead? Asking for a friend. 😅

  42. User avatar mathWizard says:

    5 stars
Made it for lunch and it was gone in minutes. Toasting the walnuts was a nice touch. Would 100% make again.

  43. User avatar Leandra Beahan says:

    2 stars
Meh. It tasted like “healthy spinach” with a hint of sweetness. Not bad, just not my thing.

  44. User avatar malisa.hickle2022 says:

    5 stars
This looks super fresh and actually doable. The balsamic + strawberries combo is always a win. I’ll toast the walnuts a little longer though for extra crunch.

  45. User avatar michal.kuvalis says:

    1 star
Is this a salad or dessert? Way too sweet for my taste. 🤔

    1. 5 stars
Salad is life! Even if it’s sweet. You can always add more spinach, just saying! 🌱

    2. User avatar steve_maga says:

      4 stars
I can see how it might taste sweet with those strawberries! But I think the balsamic will balance it out. 😋

  46. User avatar Gag Halfrunt says:

    3 stars
Didn’t have balsamic vinaigrette, just used ranch 🤷‍♀️. It was alright, but not the same for sure.

  47. User avatar Torchbugs says:

Salad? Salad is food for rabbits. Where’s the meat?!

  49. User avatar Pasta Fasta says:

    4 stars
The amounts are kinda random. 1/4 cup walnuts and 1/4 cup feta feels low? I ended up doubling both and it was way better for me.

  50. User avatar zack.schoen says:

    5 stars
So fresh and sweet—those strawberries with the feta are a perfect combo. I used a honey-balsamic and it tasted restaurant-level.

  51. 3 stars
I followed the steps exactly, but my feta was way too salty. Maybe different brand? Still, the flavors are good together.

  52. User avatar leighann.hirthe says:

    2 stars
Not what I expected. I thought this would be sweeter, but it was kinda salty with the cheese.

    1. User avatar Great Fairy says:

      5 stars
I actually love the balance of flavors! The sweet strawberries with the salty feta make a great combo. Maybe you just need to adjust the cheese amount next time?

    2. User avatar kristin.gerhold55 says:

      2 stars
Salty? No way! This salad is supposed to be fresh and fruity. Are you sure you followed the recipe right?

  53. User avatar johanne.kassulke says:

    4 stars
Yum! I used a honey mustard dressing instead of balsamic and it was still great. Would recommend!

  54. User avatar Ice Wraith says:

    2 stars
Totally not what I expected. The strawberries are WAY too sweet for my taste. I think I’d skip them next time.

  55. User avatar lory.hills12 says:

    5 stars
So fresh and bright—never thought strawberries + spinach would be this good. The feta and balsamic combo is a win.

  56. User avatar herbert.murazik70 says:

    4 stars
My feta crumbled weird and got kind of clumpy, so I guess I didn’t crumble it enough. Flavor was still good!

  57. User avatar Aletha Quitzon says:

    5 stars
    Salad yummy.

    1. 5 stars
I love this salad! It’s so refreshing especially in the summer. 🍓🫗

  58. User avatar chuck.lang says:

    3 stars
Not bad, but mine was a little too tangy from the balsamic. I’d probably use less dressing or a sweeter vinaigrette next time.

  59. User avatar leontine.leffler says:

    3 stars
My spinach came out kinda watery even after I rinsed it, so the salad wasn’t as crisp. Still good though!

  60. User avatar halflife4 says:

    3 stars
Feta cheese can be a bit salty for my taste. Maybe try goat cheese instead? 🤔

  61. User avatar elmira.kling2005 says:

    2 stars
Ehh, I didn’t love it. Spinach is great, but the feta tasted a bit too salty and overpowered the fruit for my taste.

  62. User avatar ona.schmitt says:

    5 stars
So quick and easy! I made it in under 10 mins. Will definitely make this again!

  63. User avatar Katherina Reichel says:

    4 stars
My mom used to make salads like this but we didn’t have fancy dressings. Just olive oil and vinegar worked fine!

  64. User avatar Colin the Security Robot says:

    4 stars
I was skeptical about the feta cheese, but it actually adds a nice tangy flavor to the salad.

  65. User avatar willie.stoltenberg88 says:

    3 stars
Too many strawberries, I think it should be balanced out more with spinach. Maybe half a cup more spinach?

    1. User avatar ahmad.jakubowski2017 says:

      2 stars
Nah, strawberries are fine as they is! More spinach? What are you talkin’ about?

    2. 5 stars
I totally agree! More spinach would make it healthier. Gotta balance those flavors right!

  66. User avatar cleo.robel says:

    4 stars
Pretty tasty, but I think the dressing amount could be adjusted—mine got a little too tangy. Maybe start with 1 tbsp balsamic and add more if needed.

  67. User avatar spencer.hills says:

    4 stars
The instructions are simple and it came together fast. I’m not usually a feta person, but it balanced the sweetness well.

  68. User avatar arlette.greenfelder1 says:

    3 stars
Is it normal for spinach to taste kinda bitter? I dunno, maybe I’m not using fresh enough ingredients?

  69. User avatar aileen.beer27 says:

    4 stars
Good idea, but I found it needed a bit more dressing. I used a store-bought balsamic and it was just a tad too sweet.

    1. 3 stars
Hmm interesting. I’d say next time try less balsamic and add salt to balance? I feel like “too sweet” might just mean it wasn’t reduced enough in the bottle 😅 But your idea of more dressing makes sense.

    2. 5 stars
Totally get that—store-bought balsamic can swing really sweet. I usually add a tiny splash of lemon juice (or even a bit of vinegar) when it tastes too sugary. More dressing usually helps too, just drizzle in gradually and toss.

  70. User avatar rickiestmorty says:

    4 stars
Super easy to make! I made it for a picnic and everyone loved it.

    1. User avatar bernardine.rosenbaum74 says:

    2. User avatar renda.weimann says:

I don’t think it’s that easy… I always mess up salad. How do you make sure the spinach ain’t gritty?

  71. User avatar joe_banana says:

    5 stars
Made this for lunch and it was honestly super refreshing. The balsamic + strawberries combo is surprisingly good, and the feta makes it feel fancy without much effort. Would do again!

  72. 5 stars
Yummy and fresh! It felt like summer on a plate. Super easy to make too!

    1. User avatar Sue Permann says:

Sounds delicious! I love salads that are simple and fresh. Perfect for summer!

  73. User avatar dino.dietrich says:

Ugh, I forgot to buy walnuts. Used almonds instead, is that ok? Thanks!

  74. User avatar Frost Giant says:

    4 stars
Not gonna lie, I was skeptical about strawberries in salad. But the walnuts crunch helps a lot. I used regular spinach (oops) and it still worked, just a bit tougher.

  75. 4 stars
Very simple and healthy recipe! Love the addition of walnuts. You don’t find that in every salad! 👍

  76. User avatar daria.stokes1967 says:

    4 stars
I only had pecans instead of walnuts and it turned out kinda awesome. Also I didn’t have balsamic so I used honey mustard—still good.

  77. 1 star
Why would anyone want to eat spinach? I just don’t get it.

    1. 2 stars
I dont know… spinach always taste like dirt to me. Strawberries are nice though.

    2. User avatar olen.labadie77 says:

      5 stars
Spinach is actually super healthy! You should give it a try, especially in salads. It pairs well with fruits like strawberries!

  78. User avatar jina.funk1975 says:

    5 stars
The directions are super simple. I tossed it gently like it says—no wilting. Would make again.

    1. User avatar moses.okuneva2019 says:

      5 stars
Yes! “Toss gently” is key—if you go too hard the spinach wilts fast. I love how quick this is. Next time I’ll toast the walnuts a touch longer for extra crunch.

    2. User avatar daryl.waters says:

      3 stars
Wait—2 cups spinach and only 1 cup strawberries? Seems kinda light on fruit. Also I think walnuts get soggy with balsamic, so I’d add those right before serving. But sounds tasty.

  79. User avatar etsuko.willms62 says:

    5 stars
This was surprisingly good—sweet strawberries with the feta is such a nice combo. I used a little extra balsamic and it still felt balanced.

  80. 4 stars
    So easy. 10/10. Simple!

  81. 2 stars
Spinach + fruit salads always taste “healthier than good,” but this one was okay. Wouldn’t eat it daily though.

  82. User avatar florencio.luettgen61 says:

    4 stars
I don’t like walnuts, so I swapped with sunflower seeds. Still works and the salad didn’t feel boring at all.

    1. User avatar lamar.herzog1 says:

      5 stars
Love that substitution! Sunflower seeds give a similar crunch without the walnut vibe. Glad it didn’t turn boring either 😊

  83. User avatar wes.zemlak17 says:

    4 stars
Yum! Perfect for summer. I subbed the walnuts for pecans and it was still delicious!

    1. User avatar ranae.turner says:

      5 stars
Pecans?! That’s a bold move! I never thought of that, but I bet it adds a nice twist. Can’t wait to try it!

  84. User avatar latesha.daniel88 says:

    2 stars
This salad is good but too acidic for me. Balsamic burns my mouth a little, so I’ll try a lighter vinaigrette.

  85. User avatar sharri.cartwright1951 says:

    4 stars
Spinach and strawberries??? Seems kinda weird but it was surprisingly good. I would never have thought of this combo!

  86. 5 stars
This salad is so refreshing! Perfect for summer days. Love the strawberries with spinach!

    1. User avatar Draugr Wight says:

      5 stars
I totally agree! That combo is like summer on a plate! 🍓🥗

  87. 4 stars
Okay but why spinach?? lol I tried a similar thing once and it was weirdly good. I like sweet/salty salads, so I’m optimistic.

  88. User avatar denise.deckow72 says:

    5 stars
This salad was delish! The strawberries were super sweet and went so well with the feta. Will definitely make again!

  89. User avatar delma.senger says:

    4 stars
I used regular spinach (not baby) and it felt a little tougher. Still tasty, though, so I’d just chop it finer next time.

  90. 5 stars
Strawberries + spinach is underrated. The feta really makes it taste “fancy” without much effort.

    1. 5 stars
Totally agree—spinach with strawberries is such a good combo. The feta + balsamic really upgrades it like you said. I add a little pepper sometimes and it’s perfect.

    2. User avatar isaac.donnelly18 says:

      3 stars
I tried something similar but I used too much balsamic and it tasted kinda sour 😅. Still, the sweet/tangy vibe is real. Next time I’ll go lighter and maybe add red onion.

I’m not sure about the feta with fruit. It tasted kinda salty against the strawberries. Might be better with goat cheese or less feta.

I liked it, but I think 1 cup strawberries might be a bit much if your berries are really sweet. Next time I’ll add a little less and maybe add some fresh cracked pepper.

Way too many ingredients for me, lol. I’d just do spinach + strawberries and call it a day.

Honestly, I was skeptical about fruit + spinach. But it’s actually a really nice sweet-salty thing. Would make again.

Same! I always think fruit + greens will be weird, but the balsamic totally balances it. Going to try this with pecans next time.

I’m not convinced 😅 my spinach always turns watery when I mix strawberries. Do you drain the berries or rinse them extra? Might be good though.

Spinach is healthy, sure… but strawberries in salad are not my thing. Too much sweet for me.

I don’t like feta cheese, can I use cheddar instead? Asking for a friend but really for me!

I added some grilled chicken for protein and it was great! Just a suggestion!

Balsamic on spinach and berries sounds healthy but the flavor was weird to me. Maybe I used the wrong balsamic because it was too thick.

Yeah that sounds like it could’ve been the balsamic—some are super thick/syrupy and can taste kinda “off” on berries. I usually use a thinner vinaigrette or add a tiny splash of olive oil/water if mine is too thick. Also make sure it’s not the straight balsamic glaze unless the recipe calls for it.

I made it too, and I loved it! The strawberries make such a difference. 🍓

Five stars. I’m making it again for dinner tonight. So easy and looks fancy with zero effort.
