Pot stickers, also known as jiaozi in Chinese cuisine, are delicious dumplings filled with a savory mixture of ground meat, vegetables, and seasonings, then pan-fried to crispy perfection. The tender, flavorful filling contrasts beautifully with the crispy, golden-bottomed crust, making pot stickers a favorite appetizer or snack. They’re easy to make at home and can be customized with a variety of fillings to suit your taste.
To start, the filling typically includes ground pork, beef, or chicken, mixed with finely chopped cabbage, ginger, garlic, and green onions. Some recipes also include shiitake mushrooms or other vegetables for added texture and flavor. The filling is seasoned with soy sauce, sesame oil, and a pinch of salt and pepper, giving it a well-rounded, umami-rich taste. The ingredients are mixed together until well combined, creating a fragrant, savory stuffing for the dumpling wrappers.
The wrappers themselves are thin, round discs of dough that hold the filling inside. You place a spoonful of the filling in the center of each wrapper, then fold the edges over and pinch them together to form a half-moon shape. To seal the edges, a little water is often dabbed along the perimeter to help them stick.
Cooking pot stickers is a two-step process. First, the dumplings are pan-fried in a small amount of oil until the bottom is golden and crispy. Then, water is added to the pan, and the pot stickers are covered to steam through, ensuring the filling is fully cooked while keeping the exterior crispy. This method creates a perfect balance of textures — crispy on the bottom and soft on the top.
Pot stickers are typically served with a dipping sauce made from soy sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil, and sometimes a bit of chili paste or sugar to add a sweet and spicy kick. They can be served as a snack, appetizer, or part of a larger meal, and they’re perfect for dipping and sharing. Whether you make them from scratch or buy pre-made wrappers, pot stickers are a versatile and crowd-pleasing dish that’s sure to satisfy.

Ingredients
- 1 pound ground pork Can substitute with ground chicken or beef if preferred.
- 1 cup cabbage Finely chopped
- 1 tablespoon fresh ginger Grated
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 1 package dumpling wrappers
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil For frying
- 1/4 cup water For steaming
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine ground pork, cabbage, ginger, soy sauce, and sesame oil. Mix well until all ingredients are evenly incorporated.
- Place a dumpling wrapper on a flat surface and add about 1 tablespoon of the pork mixture to the center. Wet the edges of the wrapper with a little water, fold in half, and press edges together to seal.
- Heat vegetable oil in a non-stick skillet over medium-high heat. Arrange dumplings in the pan with the sealed edges up, cook until bottoms are golden brown.
- Carefully add 1/4 cup of water to the skillet and cover with a lid. Allow dumplings to steam for about 5 minutes, until the water has evaporated.
- Remove the lid and cook for another 2-3 minutes until bottoms are crispy again. Serve hot with your choice of dipping sauce.

My friend said dumplings are a good source of protein, but are they really? I don’t trust anyone who makes ground pork dumplings. Just use beef or chicken! 🤔
You really trust your friend? Dumplings are good but pork tends to have more fat than chicken or beef. Just saying! 🤔
I mean, dumplings can be a decent source of protein, but you’re right, ground pork isn’t for everyone. Beef or chicken could be better for some folks! 🤷♂️
These pot stickers are legit! Super easy to make and taste so good. My family loved them!
I had a bit of trouble with the wrapping part, they kept falling apart. But they still tasted alright in the end. Maybe I need more practice?
This is not how real pot stickers are made in China! You need more spices! 😒
I think they taste great as is! Not everything has to be super spicy. 😊
But real pot stickers can be different depending on regions of China! Perhaps this is just a simpler version.
My Asian friend said these remind her of home. She gave it an A+, so I say five stars!
Delicious but can you really call them pot stickers? I thought they had to stick to the pot or something? 🤔
I think it’s just a name! They’re still yummy. 🤷♂️
Pot stickers? More like floor stickers! 😂 But seriously, they taste good.
This recipe is legit! I used ground chicken instead and they turned out fantastic. Will make again for sure.
I’m glad to hear that! Ground chicken sounds like a great alternative. Can’t wait to try it myself!
I had a lot of trouble sealing the dumplings. They kept falling apart. Any tips for a beginner?
Yum!! 😍
I can’t wait to try these! They look delicious! 😋
So, you really think these are the best? Not sure if they’ll turn out like that for me.
Too much work when you can just order takeout! Why bother?
Good recipe but my kids didn’t like it. They prefer noodles.
Kids can be picky! Maybe try adding more flavor or using different sauces next time. But pot stickers are still the best! 😋
Are you supposed to bake these? I baked instead of frying. They were soggy lol.
I raised my hand at school when they taught us to make dumplings, but now I can’t even! This feels way too hard. No offense!
Pot stickers? I thought this was a recipe for pot roast… LOL, oops! Looks good tho.
They were okay, but I think I added too much ginger. Is that normal? I’m new to cooking Asian dishes.
My kids loved helping make these! They were messy but worth it. Great fun.
These pot stickers are so good! I made them for my family and they devoured them in minutes. Definitely a keeper!
There are so many steps! Seems too complicated for me. I just buy them frozen. 😅
YUMMY! Will make again! #dumplings
Honestly, my dumplings fell apart and didn’t taste good. I don’t know what I did wrong, maybe too much water? Not for me. ⭐⭐
Sorry to hear that! Dumplings can be tricky. Maybe try less water next time or make sure to really seal them properly?
Amazin recipe! I love pot stickers, this was easy to follow.
These pot stickers are sooo good! I made them last night and my family devoured the whole plate! Definitely a 5-star dish!
They look good, but are they really that tasty? I’ve tried other recipes that were a bit disappointing. Hmm.
I can’t believe how easy these are to make! I made a huge batch and they went so fast. Thanks for sharing!
I made this and my husband loved it! Thanks for sharing! ❤️⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I didn’t have ginger, so I skipped it. They still tasted ok. Next time I’ll try the ginger! ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Glad it still turned out ok! Ginger really does add a nice zing though. Hope you enjoy it next time! 😊
Skipped ginger? Really? That’s like making a cake without sugar! I wouldn’t recommend it.
Love this recipe! Next time, I’m trying with shrimp too. Thanks for sharing!
Simple yet delicious! I used ground chicken and added a little garlic. Yum!!
Yum indeed! Ground chicken sounds like a great alternative. I might try that next time!
I ain’t got no dumpling wrappers, can I use bread instead? Just curious. ⭐
Using bread instead of dumpling wrappers? Nah, that ain’t gonna taste right. Just get some wrappers, they’re cheap. ⭐⭐⭐
These r the best dumplings ever! Can’t stop eating them! 😊
I don’t know, I followed the recipe exactly but they just didn’t taste right. Maybe it’s the ginger? Not for me.
Can you freeze these before cooking? I wanna make a big batch for later! ⭐⭐⭐
Yes, you can freeze them! Just make sure to freeze them before you cook. They should be good for a few months. Perfect for a quick meal later! 🥟
I dunno about freezing. Won’t they get all mushy? I like my dumplings fresh. Maybe try cooking a few first?
Suuper easy recipe! I added some chili flakes for a kick. Will make again! 🍜 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I tried these with chicken instead of pork and they were still pretty good, but I think pork is the way to go. ⭐⭐⭐⭐
These turned out amazing! My kids loved them so much, we made a second batch! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I don’t like pork. Can you do this with shrimp? Asking for a friend.
I tried this but my dumplings fell apart. Not sure what went wrong.
I dunno, dumplings are supposed to hold together. Are you sure you did it right? Sounds like something was wrong.
Maybe you overfilled the dumplings? That happens sometimes. Also, make sure to really seal the edges. They can be tricky!
Too much ginger! I had to add more pork to balance it out.
