Indian Spiced Pasta Salad is a bold and vibrant twist on the classic cold pasta salad. It brings together the creamy, tangy elements of traditional pasta salads with the warming spices and aromatic ingredients found in Indian cuisine. The result is a colorful, flavorful dish that’s both comforting and refreshing, perfect for picnics, potlucks, or weekday lunches.
This salad starts with your favorite cooked pasta, often something with ridges or curves that can hold onto all the bold flavors. Instead of a mayonnaise-based dressing, the pasta is tossed with a spice-infused yogurt or light vinaigrette, seasoned with ingredients like cumin, turmeric, coriander, and chili powder. These spices give the salad warmth and complexity while keeping it light and fresh.
What makes this dish really pop are the add-ins. Crisp vegetables like cucumbers, bell peppers, red onions, and cherry tomatoes add color and crunch. Fresh herbs such as cilantro and mint bring brightness and lift the flavors, while toasted mustard seeds or curry leaves give it a fragrant, earthy kick. Some versions include chickpeas or paneer cubes for extra texture and protein, turning the dish into a filling vegetarian meal.
The beauty of Indian Spiced Pasta Salad is its balance. It has the cooling creaminess of yogurt or a lemony vinaigrette, the comforting chew of pasta, and the bold flavors of Indian spices all in one bowl. It’s a dish that invites creativity – you can tailor the spice level, swap in seasonal veggies, or add nuts or seeds for an extra crunch.
Whether you’re serving it chilled on a hot summer day or packing it up for a meal on the go, Indian Spiced Pasta Salad delivers both taste and satisfaction. It’s a fun and flavorful way to experience the fusion of Indian and Western flavors, and it’s sure to become a favorite for anyone who loves bold, colorful food.

This is so delicious! I made it for dinner and it was a hit! Definitely a keeper!
Perfect for a vegetarian option! Love that it has all the veggies. Yum!
Followed it pretty much exactly, but next time I’ll use less red chili powder—mine came out a bit spicy. Still, the flavors blended nicely.
Not bad, but it’s more like spiced pasta with veggies than a true salad vibe. I served it warm and it was fine—cold would be different.
Yeah I get what you mean. I’d call it a warm pasta bowl too—still tastes great though. I like adding a squeeze of lemon to fake the “salad” tang.
I don’t know about pasta salad, I normally stick with regular salad. This was just ok for me.
I’m not sure about the “weeknight dinner” part—mince onion/garlic/ginger takes forever for me 😅 But the flavor is solid. Would recommend reducing chili if you’re not into heat.
This is the first time I actually used garam masala and now I get the hype. I added extra garlic and it was perfect.
I followed it pretty closely, but my pasta turned a bit sticky. Next time I’ll rinse with cold water after draining. Flavor was still solid though—nice warm spice balance.
That sounds awesome—warm spice balance is exactly what I look for. Sticky pasta happens to me too if it sits after draining. Next time I’ll try your cold-water rinse tip!
Not bad, but mine was a little dry. I think next time I’ll add a splash of water or maybe a spoon of yogurt to loosen the sauce. Flavor is still there though.
I substituted with ziti and it worked fine. Tasted a bit different, but still yum!
Good idea, but the ingredient list is a little confusing (those brackets with peas/corn/carrots?). Also I think 2 tbsp oil felt low—might need more for sautéing.
I’m not a curry person, but this actually surprised me. The heat is mild and not overpowering.
I think “serve warm” is the move—if I let it cool it got a little clumpy, but warming it back up fixed everything.
Too spicy for my kids. I had to tone it down a lot. Maybe I put too much chili powder?
Really good flavor, though my pasta got a little clumpy because I didn’t rinse it after draining. Next time I’ll toss with a tiny bit of oil right away.
Easypeasy! I used frozen mixed veggies and it turned out great. Thanks!
Used frozen mixed veggies and it was still great. The garlic-ginger step smells incredible.
Did not turn out like I thought it would. I think I used too much chili powder… it was too spicy for me.
Too spicy. Next time I might cut the chili powder in half.
I followed it pretty much and it came out tasty, though I had to add a splash of water because the spices seemed a little dry in the pan.
Who knew Indian spices would taste so good with pasta! Will be making this again!
Made this for dinner tonight and it turned out way better than I expected. The cumin/garam combo tastes super “restaurant-y.” I tossed in a squeeze of lemon at the end and it really brightened it up.
I don’t know about these spices… I think pasta should be with sauce only.
I totally get that! Pasta with just sauce is classic, but give this a try! The spices can really uplift the flavors!
Nah, spices ain’t for pasta! Just stick with marinara, that’s the real deal.
This salad was AMAZING! I added some grilled chicken to it and it was perfect.
Yall ever seen pasta like this? It looks crazy but tastes yum!
I forgot the salt! 😱 Make sure you don’t do the same! Overall a 4 star dish because of that.
Haha, salt can really make or break a dish! Glad you still liked it overall! 😊
I think 2 tbsp oil is too much for my taste—mine felt a little greasy, even after tossing. Still flavorful though.
It’s pasta, but Indian? Sounds weird. Didn’t really enjoy it that much.
I don’t like onions but my ma love it! She said it’s so good!!!
You could just leave the onions out! The spices and veggies will still make it delish!
But onions give flavor! How can you not like them?
I was skeptical about mixing pasta and Indian spices. But wow, this was surprisingly good!
Indian spices and pasta? Seems weird to me, but glad it worked for you!
I’m curious, how did you come up with this combination? Sounds interesting!
Not sure about garam masala in pasta salad—feels a bit random to me, but the turmeric/chili balance might work.
Too much spice for me, my stomach didn’t like it. But, my partner enjoyed it!
Pasta salad with Indian spices? Who woulda thought? Mighty good!
I never would have thought to mix pasta and Indian spices, but it sounds delicious! I gotta try this.
I followed the spices exactly and it’s definitely cozy and aromatic. For me it needed a squeeze of lemon at the end, but that’s just my preference.
My kids ate it with no complaints (which is basically a miracle). I dialed back the chili and it was still flavorful.
Haha yes!! “No complaints” is the real win 😄 Glad it was still flavorful with less chili. I’m trying that next time!
Kids not complaining is basically science magic 😂 I did notice my pasta needed a tiny splash of water/oil to coat evenly, but the spices are on point.
I’m skeptical about pasta + all these spices, but wow. It tastes like a fusion comfort food. Cilantro on top is the move.
Yummy! Could use more chili, but I’ll make it more spicy next time!
I love the idea of adding more chili! Spicy is the way to go! 🌶️
I’m not usually a pasta salad person, but this one is legit. The spices cling to the penne so every bite has flavor. Will make again for sure.
This was surprisingly tasty! The cumin/turmeric combo really warms up the pasta. I added a squeeze of lemon at the end and it tasted restaurant-level.
The spice amounts are kinda intense. I followed it and it was borderline too hot for me, but my fault for using the same chili powder brand that’s extra strong. Still delicious.
First time making this and it turned out pretty good. Spices were a bit strong for me though.
Absolutely delicious! The spices really make it pop!
Totally agree! I made this last night and my whole family loved it!
Honestly? I didn’t measure spices and it turned out okay. Like, it might be forgiving. 😂
Simple ingredients, quick to make. Just wish I had fresh cilantro!
So good! Will make again for sure!!
Okay, I didn’t use any salty but it was still okay. My fam liked it.
Not sure if I like pasta with Indian spices. Seems kinda weird to me.
Not gonna lie, I was skeptical about pasta with all these Indian spices, but it actually worked. Garlic-ginger step is key.
Same here—I thought it would be weird, but the garlic-ginger really makes it click. I’m stealing this for sure.
I’m not sure about garam masala in pasta salad… but I guess if the onions get coated good it might work. Did you add lemon or anything? Mine tasted a bit flat.
I dunno, pasta salad? Sounds weird. I like spaghetti better.
The recipe is easy but the flavors are too intense for my taste. Maybe cut down on the cumin?
This pasta salad is amazing! The spices really make it pop. Definitely a keeper!
I had to substitute some spices ’cause I didn’t have them, but it still turned out pretty good!
Not gonna lie, mine turned out a bit bland even after salting. I followed the steps exactly, but it felt like it needed more garlic/ginger or maybe extra garam masala. Still ate it though—just wished it had more punch.
I just don’t get Indian food!? My husband loved it tho, said it’s authentic.
This pasta salad was surprisingly good! I was a bit skeptical at first, but the spices really made it pop.
I’m glad you liked it! The spices really do create a wonderful flavor. I wasn’t sure about the combination either but gave it a shot and it turned out great.
Eh, it was okay, nothing special. Just feels like a regular pasta with some weird flavor.
I think you just need to give it a try with more spices! It’s really flavorful if you follow the recipe right! 💪
Adding this to my favorite recipes! So easy and quick to make!
This is weirdly awesome. My roommate asked what restaurant it’s from, which is a compliment in our house. 10/10 would serve to friends.
Yum!
This is aweful! I dont like turmeric at all, ruined the whole dish!
Loved the warm Indian-spice vibe! The cumin + garam masala smelled amazing, and the veggies still had a nice bite.
Yes!! That cumin + garam masala combo is the best part. I made this and the whole kitchen smelled like an Indian restaurant 😍
Isn’t pasta Italian? Why mix it with Indian spices? Kind of a mashup that doesn’t fit.
I forgot to add the cilantro, but it was still tasty. Next time I won’t forget!!
Enjoyed making this! Next time I wanna try adding some peanuts for crunch.
So easy… like 30 minutes and done. Family asked for seconds. Cilantro on top is a must!
Totally agree—this sounds like the kind of “weeknight win” recipe that actually gets eaten. Cilantro makes it pop! 🌿
Super easy recipe! I added some chicken and it was a hit at the dinner table! Will make again.
My kids hated it. They only like plain mac and cheese. 😒
Pretty good, but I think 1/4 tsp chili powder might be too mild depending on the brand. Also my veggies took longer to soften—next time I’ll sauté them a little longer or cover the pan.
Kinda bland for me until I salted more and added black pepper. Maybe my cumin was weak? Either way, it improved a lot with extra seasoning.
Loved it! I used frozen mixed veggies and it still came out great. Also, chopping the onion fine was key—so it basically melted into the sauce.
