Fried Ice Cream

December 4, 2024

Fried ice cream is a fun and indulgent dessert that combines the creamy coldness of ice cream with a crispy, warm exterior. It’s a show-stopping treat often served in Mexican restaurants, offering a unique contrast of textures and flavors that’s sure to impress anyone with a sweet tooth.

The magic of fried ice cream comes from the way it’s prepared. A scoop of your favorite ice cream, usually vanilla, chocolate, or cinnamon, is frozen until firm. Once it’s solid, the ice cream is coated with a crunchy layer, often made from crushed cornflakes, breadcrumbs, or even crushed cereal like Frosted Flakes. Some recipes add a sprinkle of cinnamon or a touch of sugar to the coating for extra flavor.

Once the ice cream is fully coated, it’s quickly deep-fried in hot oil for just a few seconds. This rapid frying process gives the outer coating a golden, crispy texture while leaving the inside cool and creamy. The result is a mouthwatering contrast between the hot, crunchy outside and the cold, creamy ice cream inside.

This ice cream typically can be served with a drizzle of honey, chocolate syrup, or caramel sauce, and sometimes topped with whipped cream, sprinkles, or a cherry for a festive touch. The combination of hot and cold, sweet and crunchy, is a perfect indulgence, making this dessert a crowd-pleaser at any occasion.

While it sounds complicated, fried ice cream is surprisingly easy to make at home. You just need to ensure the ice cream is frozen solid before frying it, as this will help prevent it from melting too quickly. You can even experiment with different coatings or ice cream flavors to create your own twist on this classic dessert.

Whether you’re looking to impress guests or just want a fun treat to enjoy on a special occasion, this is a deliciously unique dessert that brings together two of everyone’s favorite things – ice cream and fried food.

This is such a crazy idea! I can’t believe it actually works. My kids loved it! Definitely a 5 star!

  2. 4 stars
I only had cereal that was thicker, so my coating wasn’t as “golden.” Still yummy though, and the egg part helps a lot.

  3. User avatar leon.huel97 says:

Tried this and it was a complete disaster! The ice cream melted way too fast. What a mess!

  4. User avatar tai.cremin4 says:

Wow, I never thought of frying ice cream! This sounds amazing! Can’t wait to try it.

    1. 2 stars
Frying ice cream? I dunno, sounds kinda messy… What if it melts?

    2. User avatar Beregond says:

      5 stars
This is gonna be so good! I might add some chocolate chips to the mix too.

  5. 4 stars
The ingredient list says “1 egg egg” which made me laugh, but I’m assuming it just means 1 beaten egg. Still, great recipe and pretty foolproof if you’re quick.

  6. User avatar allie.cruickshank says:

    3 stars
It was ok, but a bit messy. Next time, I’ll try less oil.

    1. User avatar wan.morissette46 says:

      4 stars
Less oil sounds like a good idea! It can get real drippy otherwise. Hope the next attempt is better!

    2. User avatar brian.breitenberg55 says:

      2 stars
I still don’t get how ice cream can be fried. Seems kinda weird, right? But maybe I’ll try it once!

  7. User avatar dexter.goldner87 says:

    4 stars
I love the idea, but 10-15 seconds might be too long depending on your oil depth and pan. Still, the cinnamon in the crumbs would taste amazing.

  8. 5 stars
Tried this and it was shockingly good—crispy outside, cold inside like a dessert magic trick. Mine took closer to 20 seconds, but still worked. Would make again!

    1. 3 stars
Wait 20 seconds and still okay? I tried once and it turned into sad, melty soup. I think my oil wasn’t hot enough or I didn’t refreeze between steps… how do you keep it from melting?

    2. User avatar dorris.crona39 says:

      5 stars
That’s awesome! The “cold inside” part is exactly what I love about fried ice cream—magic trick energy 😄. Do you freeze it overnight or just until firm?

  9. User avatar larissa.marvin16 says:

    4 stars
Followed it pretty closely, except I used cinnamon anyway and it was actually great. Crunchy coating + cold center is unreal.

    1. User avatar aide.kohler76 says:

      4 stars
I mean… cinnamon? lol. But if you say it was great I’ll believe it. Did you put cinnamon in only the cornflakes mix or also into the egg? Also 10-15 seconds feels so short—mine always softens fast.

    2. User avatar eddie.mante97 says:

      5 stars
Totally agree—adding cinnamon is one of those small tweaks that makes it taste way more “bakery” and less plain. Crunchy outside with cold center is the whole magic.

  10. 5 stars
This is such a fun recipe! It’s perfect for a summer party. My kids loved it!

  11. User avatar edie.jacobi says:

    5 stars
This is such a fun dessert idea—crispy outside and still cold inside. I did it a few days ago and everyone went wild for it. The quick fry step is key!

  12. User avatar cherise.okeefe says:

    4 stars
Super easy to make! I used rice krispies instead of cornflakes and it turned out great! Yum!

  13. 5 stars
Omg honey drizzle at the end?? That’s my love language. Crunchy outside, cold inside—yes yes yes.

    1. User avatar alfredo.spencer3 says:

      5 stars
Yesss! Honey + that crunchy shell is elite. I’m totally making this—10-15 seconds sounds perfect so the inside stays cold 😄

    2. 3 stars
Wait, fried ice cream with cornflakes?? I feel like the coating might get soggy fast… but I guess the super-hot oil + quick fry helps. Still, I’d be scared of it melting in the egg.

  14. User avatar josef.romaguera2019 says:

    5 stars
So good. Actually better than I thought it would be. Everyone asked for the recipe.

I don’t have cornflakes, can I use potato chips? Asking for a friend.

    1. User avatar Grandpa Gohan says:

      4 stars
Potato chips? That sounds crazy but I guess you can try! Just make sure they are not too salty.

  17. 3 stars
Mine turned out… not golden, more like pale. I think my oil wasn’t really at 375°F. Also my egg dip was a little messy but I fixed it by doing a thicker coat.

  18. User avatar lily.erdman38 says:

    5 stars
Tried this for a party, and everyone loved it! Soooo good with chocolate syrup! 😍

  23. 4 stars
I accidentally used rice krispies instead of cornflakes and it was still awesome!

  24. 2 stars
Tried this but it was a disaster. Ice cream melted too fast. Maybe I did something wrong.

  25. User avatar alonso.powlowski says:

    4 stars
I forgot the egg and it still turned out fine. Maybe this recipe is too easy.

  26. 1 star

How’s the ice cream not meltin? Seems weird to me…

  29. User avatar gearldine.hayes50 says:

    3 stars
Too sweet for my taste. I’d rather have just ice cream without all the fuss.

  30. User avatar dwayne.jaskolski says:

    4 stars
Quick and easy! But I think I put too much cinnamon. Next time I’ll be more careful.

    1. 4 stars
I love fried ice cream! But yeah, too much cinnamon can really overpower it. I usually use just a pinch. Glad you enjoyed it overall!

  31. User avatar suspiciousCommentator says:

    2 stars
I followed it, but mine fell apart in the oil. Like, the coating just slid off. I think I didn’t roll it enough or the egg wasn’t thick enough. Any tips? 😭

    1. User avatar latia.rolfson12 says:

      5 stars
Oh no 😭 That sliding-off coating usually means the ice cream softened before the fry, or the egg layer wasn’t thick/tight enough. Make sure it’s super frozen (refreeze 10–20 min after rolling in cornflakes and again after the egg). Also when you dip in egg, coat gently but fully—then roll again right away so it adheres.

    2. User avatar lamonica.feeney33 says:

      4 stars
Mine did that once too… I think I didn’t double-coat well. I’d roll in cornflakes, then egg, then cornflakes again, but I also pressed the crumbs down with my fingers a bit so they stick. And keep the oil really at 375°F—if it’s cooler the coating gets wet and falls off.

  32. User avatar willow.hill75 says:

    5 stars
This is such a fun dessert—crispy outside, cold inside. I did add the cinnamon and it really helped with flavor. Mine browned a bit too fast though, so keep an eye on it!

  33. 5 stars
I tried this and it was sooo good! Who knew it would work out!

  34. User avatar rachele.schoen says:

    4 stars
Loved the idea, but I wish it said how to keep the ice cream from getting too warm while breading. Also my coating kept falling off a bit—maybe I didn’t freeze long enough.

  35. User avatar iliana.kiehn60 says:

    3 stars
Fried? Ice cream? Sounds like a heart attack but I’ll try it anyways.

    1. User avatar reyes.conroy2026 says:

Like, how do you fry ice cream? This sounds impossible.

  37. User avatar ShanksOnePiece says:

This recipe is so fun! I added some chocolate chips on top, yummm! 🍦🍫

  38. User avatar Doug Love Fitzhugh says:

Risky but worth it. Fried ice cream is basically a science project lol. I used extra cornflakes and it stayed crunchy.

  39. User avatar ervin.murazik1982 says:

    4 stars
Good stuff! I used sugar flakes instead of cornflakes, still turned out amazing!

  40. User avatar oscar.king56 says:

Can I use any type of ice cream? Asking for a friend who loves rocky road.

  41. User avatar muriel.legros says:

    3 stars
Uh, 1 cup vegetable oil for frying… not sure how much oil you actually need. I used a lot more and it fried fine. Also, do you use the egg in a separate bowl or like straight from the shell? 😅

  42. User avatar amparo.bashirian31 says:

    1 star
Fried ice cream? Why would you ruin ice cream like that? Ice cream is perfect as it is. 🤔

  43. User avatar jackson.kreiger47 says:

    1 star
Honestly I don’t get why people do this at home. The ice cream is basically dying the second you touch oil.

    1. User avatar terminatorXYZ says:

      4 stars
I get what you mean, but the point is it’s only in the oil for like 10–15 seconds. The thick cornflake/egg coating insulates it, so it comes out pretty intact if you keep the ice cream super frozen.

  44. User avatar Dominic Vernius says:

    5 stars
OMG this is so good! Just made it for my kids and they loved it. Will be a regular treat now!

    1. 5 stars
That’s awesome! My kids love it too! I added some chocolate syrup and nuts on top. Yum!

    2. 2 stars
Fried ice cream? Isn’t that messy? Wouldn’t the ice cream just melt? Seems risky!

  45. 3 stars
I followd all steps.. but my ice creeam melt before I fry it!!!! Now I got slush! What did I do wrong?

  46. User avatar russ.treutel says:

    4 stars
Tastes great, but it feels like a lot of work for one scoop. Also frying ice cream is kinda wild to me… but my kids devoured it, so I guess I’m wrong.

  47. User avatar rich.landlord says:

    2 stars
I followed the steps and it still turned into a sad mess 😭 The coating slid off—maybe my cornflakes weren’t crushed fine enough?

    1. User avatar Eccentrica Gallumbits says:

      4 stars
Ugh, I’m sorry 😭 The cornflakes absolutely can cause this—if they aren’t crushed fine enough, they won’t pack on and the egg won’t “grab.” Also make sure the ice cream is *very* hard/frozen before any coating step, and keep it moving fast after the egg dip. If your oil wasn’t hot enough (or the fry was longer than ~10–15 sec), the coating loosens and slides off. Next time: crush finer, do a double roll, and freeze again for 5–10 min between coating steps if needed.

  48. 5 stars
Delicious and so crunchy! But I didn’t have cornflakes, so I used crispy rice cereal. It still worked!

  49. User avatar jackeline.pagac says:

    3 stars
Tastes great, but 1 cup oil seems low? I used way more so the ball could really fry. Otherwise it was like pan-frying.

    1. 5 stars
Glad you enjoyed it! 😊 I think the 1 cup oil is just the minimum to get started—depending on your pot size you might need more so the ice cream balls float a bit. I’d also agree with your approach: you’re basically pan-frying/frying, and a deeper oil level helps the coating stay crisp.

    2. 4 stars
Wait, 1 cup oil seems WAY low to me. I’m not being picky, but unless you’ve got a tiny saucepan, you won’t hit full 375°F evenly. I’d rather use enough oil to coat at least halfway, and fry fast like the recipe says so the ice cream doesn’t melt. Otherwise it’ll turn into sad ice cream blobs.

  50. User avatar augustus.wintheiser33 says:

    4 stars
Made this for my kids, they loved it! It’s messy, but worth it. 👍

  51. User avatar lanny.oconnell says:

    2 stars
I followed it exactly but my coating kept sliding off. Maybe my ice cream wasn’t frozen hard enough—what a pain.

  52. 2 stars
10-15 seconds is so short 😅 I’m scared I’ll undercook it or overcook it. I ended up doing like 30 seconds once and it basically became fried ice cream mush.

  53. User avatar avelina.aufderhar45 says:

    5 stars
This is such a fun “wow” dessert. Mine actually browned fast at 10 seconds like the instructions said—just be ready to serve immediately.

  54. User avatar Ruthanne Graham says:

    4 stars
Looks legit. Also, you wrote ‘1 egg egg’—is that a typo or double eggs? I’m guessing it’s just one.

  55. User avatar hermila.ruecker33 says:

    3 stars
This sounds good but isn’t ice cream already cold? How does frying it work with science? Like the hot and cold?

  56. User avatar kandi.daugherty95 says:

    2 stars
This is just too weird. Fried ice cream? How does that even work? I’m skeptical.

  57. User avatar rivka.heidenreich2003 says:

    3 stars
okay but how long do you freeze the ice cream? I might forget and it’ll all melt!

  58. User avatar lindy.hermann9 says:

    1 star
Eh, not for me. Tried it at a fair once and thought it was too sweet.

    1. 4 stars
I get that! Fried ice cream can be way too sweet for some people, but I love it! Maybe try a less sweet topping next time?

  59. User avatar Trillian says:

    5 stars
YESS!!! This is the best thing I’ve ever made! Thanks for sharin this recipe, it’s a game changer!

  60. User avatar justina.harvey1975 says:

    4 stars
“Fried ice cream” sounds fake tbh. Like how does it not turn into soup? But I guess it’s real science and quick frying. Still—10-15 seconds is not a lot. Respect.

  61. User avatar chet.doyle6 says:

    3 stars
Seems kinda unsafe frying ice cream? Like, oil splatter? I’m not convinced but I’ll try cautiously.

  62. User avatar terminatorXYZ says:

    5 stars
This was ridiculously fun to make. I worked fast like the instructions said and it came out golden and crunchy without melting into sadness. Drizzled honey on top—10/10.

  63. User avatar saul.conn says:

    2 stars
375°F?? That’s pretty hot. I tried it and it was kinda greasy, like the cornflakes soaked up oil. Still tasted okay, just not the texture I wanted.

  64. 5 stars
    5 stars. sooo good!!!

  65. User avatar Mohammed Kozey Sr. says:

    2 stars
Not gonna lie, I’m skeptical about frying ice cream. The first attempt failed, coating slipped off, maybe because my ice cream wasn’t hard enough.

    1. User avatar Chaurus Hunter says:

      5 stars
Totally get your skepticism—frying ice cream is kinda “blink and you miss it.” If the coating slipped, it’s usually because the ice cream wasn’t rock-hard *or* you didn’t refreeze between steps. I’d freeze the coated ball again (like 10–20 min) after the first egg/cornflake layer, then do the second coating and fry immediately. Also make sure your oil is really at 375°F before frying—if it’s cooler, the ice cream starts melting too fast.

  66. User avatar tressie.moore20 says:

    3 stars
Not what I expected. The ice cream melted too fast. Maybe I didn’t freeze it long enough.

  67. 4 stars
Such a fun idea! I made it for a party and everyone was so impressed. Definitely a keeper!

  68. User avatar colby.kemmer46 says:

    2 stars
375°F?! That seems too low/high? I did 350 and it melted more than it fried. Won’t lie, I was disappointed.

  69. User avatar Eddie the Computer says:

    2 stars
Is this even a real dessert? Seems too complicated for me. 😕

  70. User avatar wilma.lakin38 says:

This was way better than I expected—crispy outside, cold inside. I’m keeping this in my rotation for parties.

  71. User avatar felisha.sauer57 says:

Not my favorite… the egg made it kinda soggy. Maybe I did it wrong?

    1. User avatar ArabianNights says:

      3 stars
I dunno, this is how it’s done! But you could’ve maybe messed up the frying, who knows.

    2. User avatar wilford.kirlin1 says:

      4 stars
I think the egg is what gives it that crunch! Maybe try frying it less time? It has to be super quick.

  72. User avatar nita.becker10 says:

    3 stars
Fried ice cream, who knew? I prefer it plain, but this was kinda fun. Not sure I’d do it again tho.

  73. User avatar tyree.streich89 says:

    2 stars
Can someone please explain why the ice cream doesn’t just turn into soup? Mine did!

  74. User avatar allen.hyatt71 says:

Fried ice cream is from Mexico, right? I heard that somewhere, not sure. Sounds funny.

  75. User avatar forrest.rosenbaum87 says:

    4 stars
Cornflakes + cinnamon is an underrated combo. Also the double coating makes it super crunchy even for a fast fry.

  76. 4 stars
Cornflakes worked way better than I expected. Cinnamon in the crumb mix is a nice touch. I served with honey and it was dangerously good.

  77. User avatar eugene.christiansen61 says:

    1 star
Fried ice cream? Is that even a real thing? Sounds weird.

    1. User avatar maxima.schimmel7 says:

      4 stars
Yeah, it’s a real thing! It’s like a fun dessert, you should definitely try it before judging!

  78. 5 stars
5 stars! I added some sprinkles too! Everyone loved it ❤️

    1. User avatar felipe.hettinger1951 says:

Sounds amazing! I never thought about adding sprinkles, great idea! 🌈

  79. User avatar ira.senger says:

Actually pretty easy if you prep everything first. I used crushed cornflakes + egg like the instructions, and it came out golden in no time. Would totally make again.

    1. User avatar ryan.kirlin40 says:

      2 stars
Sounds good but isn’t it kinda risky frying ice cream? Like it melts instantly—mine usually turns into sad soup lol. Maybe I’m not freezing it long enough?

    2. User avatar nick.renner67 says:

      5 stars
Totally agree—mise en place makes this so much easier. I tried it once and it was way less stressful than I expected. Golden in seconds is the best part 😄

  80. User avatar randy.rippin1982 says:

    4 stars
This is like dessert on training wheels. Easy ingredients, fun process. But please be careful with the oil—frying something frozen feels a little sketchy the first time.

  81. 3 stars
375°F sounds right, but I don’t have a thermometer. I just heated until it looked shimmery—results were… mixed. Still tasty though.

  82. User avatar brianne.mayer29 says:

    4 stars
Super easy if you have crushed cornflakes already. The cinnamon is subtle but nice—almost like cinnamon toast vibes.

  83. 5 stars
OMG, this is amazing! I added some sprinkles on top and it took it to another level! Yum!

  84. User avatar lowell.emard1989 says:

    4 stars
I added chocolate syrup and honey and it was sweet-sweet. Could be too much for some people, but I loved it.

  85. User avatar elvin.schimmel says:

    4 stars
I tried this and it worked… mostly. Mine started melting a bit before frying, so I think freezing hard longer than “until very hard” would help. Still delicious though.

  86. User avatar wilton.witting73 says:

Okay but the ingredient list is confusing? Like ‘1 egg egg’ lol. Also do you really need a full cup of oil? I used less and it still worked, so maybe not.

  87. User avatar malcom.koelpin79 says:

    5 stars
My kids loved it. I drizzled chocolate syrup and it tasted like a fair snack. Next time I’ll add the cinnamon because mine was a little plain without it.

  88. User avatar oPandariaNo says:

    3 stars
Bold to call it fried ice cream like it’s easy lol. Between freezing, coating, and frying fast… that’s a lot of work for dessert.

  89. User avatar troy.padberg53 says:

    4 stars
I’m skeptical about the timing, but 10–15 seconds actually worked for me. I used a thermometer and the oil stayed around 190°C. Texture was perfect: crispy outside, cold inside.

    1. User avatar enoch.ebert88 says:

      5 stars
Totally believe it. I also stopped using guesses and went by thermometer—when the oil is ~190°C it fries insanely fast. If you go longer than that, it turns into a melted mess.

    2. User avatar Normand Dooley says:

      3 stars
I’m not sure about 10–15 seconds. Mine browned super fast but the inside was kinda like… milk soup, lol. Maybe my coating wasn’t thick enough? Also my oil temp ran hot maybe. Still tasty though.

  90. 3 stars
I tried it but my coating kept sliding off… maybe my oil wasn’t hot enough? Still tasted good, but it looked messy.

  91. 5 stars
Fried ice cream is a classic! Always reminds me of my childhood fairs. Yummy!

    1. User avatar aide.schuppe says:

      2 stars
Fried ice cream? Sounds weird to me. How can ice cream not melt when you fry it?

    2. 5 stars
I remember having this at the carnival! It’s so fun to make at home too. Can’t wait to try!

  92. User avatar son.schowalter says:

    3 stars
Okay, the recipe says freeze hard then fry 10-15 seconds… but 375°F felt way too hot in my pan. I ended up with a darker crust and still kinda runny center. Maybe my thermometer was off? Still edible tho.

    1. User avatar stefania.langworth45 says:

      3 stars
Huh… my guess is your oil temp was hotter than 375. Pan vibes matter—thick bottom cooks hotter. Also if the coating was a bit thin, the runny center will happen. Still, if it was edible, at least it worked kinda? next time try bigger coating layers n no rush? 😂

    2. User avatar maren.franecki says:

      4 stars
That sounds like the coating got too much color before the inside could fully refreeze—375°F might indeed be too hot for your pan or oil depth. I usually do it closer to 350°F and keep the fry really short. Also make sure the ice cream is rock-hard again right before frying (like refreeze 10 minutes).

  93. User avatar Frost Atronach says:

    1 star
    Fried… ice cream? Blasphemy! 😡

  94. User avatar calista.corwin1962 says:

    3 stars
I tried this but my ice cream melted immediately after coating… maybe my oil wasn’t hot enough? Also, 375°F felt hard to hit at home.

  95. 3 stars
Pretty darn good, but why not just eat ice cream? Seems like too much trouble.

  96. 5 stars
This is such a fun dessert—crispy outside and cold inside really does the trick. The 10–15 seconds is key; I almost overdid mine and it started to melt.

  97. User avatar Spider Soldier says:

    5 stars
Wow! My kids loved it. Next time I’ll drizzle chocolate syrup like the recipe says.

  98. User avatar bernardine.murphy says:

    4 stars
Worked pretty well but mine stayed pale at first. Next time I’ll fry for the full 15 seconds and make sure the oil is actually at 375°F.

    1. User avatar louis.wisozk1950 says:

      5 stars
Glad it worked for you! I’ve noticed the pale color usually means the coating needed a bit more contact time with the hot oil—your tweak makes total sense. I also use a thermometer so the “375°F” isn’t just a guess.

    2. User avatar Pasta Fasta says:

      4 stars
Mine did that too… I think my oil wasn’t hot enough and the crumbs kinda fell off. Next time I’ll go full 15 seconds and won’t touch it until it’s golden. Also, isn’t it supposed to fry like… fast fast or it melts? 😅

  99. User avatar Effrafax of Wug says:

    2 stars
I tried this but it didn’t work. The ice cream just melted too fast! 🙁

    1. User avatar chong.reilly19 says:

      4 stars
It sounds like the ice cream wasn’t frozen hard enough. You really gotta make sure it’s super solid before frying! Don’t lose hope, just try again!

  100. 5 stars
Cornflakes are genius here. I’m surprised it works without more baking—10-15 seconds is basically nothing, but it hits.

  101. 3 stars
I think the oil temp was off. It browned too fast and the inside was kinda soft. Still edible, just not the dramatic contrast I wanted.

    1. User avatar na.dubuque1979 says:

      4 stars
Yeah that sounds like the oil was running hot or the coating got too much color before the inside had time to firm up. Next time try keeping the oil closer to 375°F and use a thermometer—also freeze the ball longer and don’t fry more than a couple at a time so the temp doesn’t drop/rise a lot.

  102. User avatar Eccentrica Gallumbits says:

    5 stars
This is so fun! I never thought to fry ice cream. Can’t wait to try it!

    1. 5 stars
That sounds amazing! I’ve never heard of frying ice cream either but I’ll definitely try it!

  103. 2 stars
This is the weirdest recipe ever! Fried ice cream? Really??

  104. User avatar christie.jenkins2004 says:

    5 stars
This sounds dangerously delicious. The double cornflake + egg coating is such a smart move—golden in seconds is exactly right for fried ice cream. I’ll definitely try it.

  105. 3 stars
How does it not melt? I wanna see someone make this… the science behind it, you know?

  106. User avatar tammy.labadie says:

    5 stars
My kids loved it! Perfect for a summer treat. We drizzled with chocolate sauce, yum!

  107. User avatar Gurney Halleck says:

    1. User avatar joe_banana says:

Fried ice cream is amazing! I tried this recipe last night and it was a hit with my family. Definitely making it again!

    2. User avatar jamaal.jakubowski24 says:

      2 stars
I dunno, fried ice cream sounds kinda strange. Isn’t the ice cream just gonna melt?

  108. User avatar austin.labadie85 says:

    1 star
Why would anyone fry ice cream? Seems wrong. Just eat it cold like normal.

  109. User avatar erasmo.murphy55 says:

    3 stars
Mine stuck to the pan a bit because the ice cream wasn’t frozen solid enough. Next time I’ll freeze longer. Still tasted good though—like a churro-meets-ice-cream situation.

  110. 3 stars
The recipe says 1 egg, but I used more batter-ish egg and it seemed thicker. I think it’s okay to eyeball? Mine looked less “golden brown” and more “toasty beige,” lol.

  111. User avatar Lisa Neucar says:

    3 stars
Cornflakes are kinda sweet already, so maybe skip extra cinnamon? Otherwise it might be too much. But still, it’s fun.

  112. User avatar olen.quitzon says:

    3 stars
Do you really need the egg? I have allergies and would like to skip it.

    1. 3 stars
I dunno, but I think the egg helps it stick? But if you have allergies, better safe than sorry! Maybe try using a bit of honey or something instead?

    2. User avatar richie.quigley44 says:

      5 stars
You can definitely skip the egg! Just make sure to coat it well with the cornflakes. It might not stick as much, but it’ll still be tasty!

  113. User avatar MAGA2024.Trumpster says:

    5 stars
Cornflakes turned into this crunchy shell, and the egg helped a lot. I added a little extra cinnamon and it was amazing. Next time I’ll make smaller balls for more even frying.

  114. 5 stars
Fried ice cream is genius. 10–15 seconds sounds short, but that’s the whole point so it doesn’t melt. I served mine immediately with honey—so good.

  115. User avatar Lumberjack says:

    4 stars
The steps are clear. I did something similar once but used crushed cookies instead of cornflakes—this version sounds more crunchy. Rating would be 5 if it included chocolate syrup in the ingredients.

  116. User avatar milissa.barton48 says:

    3 stars
I tried it with cinnamon and it tasted kinda like cereal ice cream, which was good. But 375°F felt high? Mine browned too fast and I panicked and pulled it early.

    1. User avatar paola.kozey says:

      5 stars
375°F does sound scary at first, but the trick is SUPER fast frying—like 10–15 seconds. If it browned right away, your oil might’ve been hotter than 375 or your coating was a bit thinner. Next time try chilling the ice cream longer and make sure it’s fully encased.

    2. User avatar Hotblack Desiato says:

      2 stars
I think you messed up the egg part? Like if the egg wasn’t mixed right, the cornflakes fall off and then it browns too quick. Also 375 is definitely too hot in my opinion 😅 I’d do 325 and fry longer… unless the ice cream melts, which it will lol.

  117. 2 stars
The oil temp is important, but I’m not buying 375°F on vibes. I don’t have a thermometer. Can I eyeball it? Please say yes.

    1. 2 stars
I’d say yes, just heat it till it looks shimmery and kinda wavy. No thermometer? Totally vibes-based lol. 375°F is about when it starts smoking a little at the edges—don’t burn it.

    2. User avatar hoyt.skiles15 says:

      4 stars
You *can* eyeball it, but it’s risky. If the oil isn’t hot enough, the coating absorbs oil and gets soggy. Without a thermometer, do a quick test: toss in a tiny bit of cornflake— it should sizzle right away and brown quickly within a second or two.

  118. 5 stars
This is such a fun “wow” dessert. The quick fry timing really matters—mine almost melted when I hesitated, but still tasted amazing.

    1. User avatar woodchuck says:

      3 stars
Mine melted too, but I think I waited too long after the egg step 😅 Next time I’ll do it faster. Also, do you mean 10–15 seconds total or per side? I did it like one side and it felt kinda pale.

    2. User avatar parker.labadie10 says:

      5 stars
Yes!! The timing is everything. I always set a timer because the second you pause it starts to soften—still delicious though. Love the crunchy double coating.

  119. 3 stars
Not gonna lie, the 375°F confused me because my oil runs hot fast. I ended up frying at like 350 and it was fine.

    1. User avatar marcel.tillman1982 says:

      5 stars
Yeah 375°F is kinda fast for oil sometimes—your 350°F rescue makes sense. Since it’s only 10–15 seconds, the coating should still set before the ice cream melts too much.

    2. User avatar junior.auer22 says:

      2 stars
Wait… I don’t get it. If the oil is 350 shouldn’t the ice cream just melt and turn into soup? Mine never stays solid when I fry anything. Maybe I did it wrong but I’m skeptical.

  120. 5 stars
Cornflakes are kinda genius for this. I didn’t even add cinnamon, and it still had a sweet crunch. The double coating step matters—no argument.

    1. 5 stars
Totally agree—cornflakes have that sweet-y crunch and they brown fast. I started doing the double coat after my first try went bare. Makes a big difference!

    2. User avatar andres.mante says:

      3 stars
I tried it once with cornflakes but my coating slid off 😭 maybe I didn’t freeze it hard enough. Also 10-15 seconds feels scary—won’t it melt inside? I wanna believe tho.

  121. User avatar garret.mcglynn says:

    3 stars
Lol my cornflakes got soggy. i guess i waited too long before frying. still tasted nice tho

  122. User avatar curtis.marks61 says:

    5 stars
I tried a different recipe and failed because I didn’t freeze long enough. This one says freeze until very hard—good! I think that’s the key.

  123. User avatar becky.wuckert44 says:

    4 stars
I think this is a great idea! Wish I knew about this sooner. Lookin forward to making it.

  124. User avatar raye.lang2 says:

    5 stars
This is such a fun dessert. The key for me was freezing the ice cream really solid—otherwise it melts right away while frying.

  125. 5 stars
Okay this sounds dangerously good 😅 The double cornflake + egg coating is exactly what I wanted—crunchy outside, cold center. I’d drizzle chocolate for sure.

  126. User avatar Tony Hand says:

    5 stars
Too cool! Can we use any ice cream flavor? Asking for a friend! LOL

  127. User avatar tawanna.schulist says:

    1 star
Wait, 375°F for only 10-15 seconds?? Mine melted instantly. I followed it exactly but maybe my oil was not hot enough? Either way, sad result 😭

  128. User avatar norberto.fisher0 says:

    3 stars
Honestly sounds like a lot of work for 1 scoop of ice cream, but I have to admit it looks amazing. Worth it for special occasions.

    1. User avatar Genghis Khan says:

      5 stars
Honestly sounds like a lot of work for 1 scoop of ice cream, but I have to admit it looks amazing. Worth it for special occasions.

    2. 4 stars
I tried something like this—mine melted fast though 😅. The egg coating helps, but I think you *really* have to freeze the ball longer and fry super quick. Also, is it 375°F the whole time? Mine was more like 350 and it wasn’t golden.

  129. User avatar adelaide.fay says:

    3 stars
I made these and they tasted like cinnamon cereal with ice cream—kinda nostalgic. But the coating fell off a little when I ate them.

    1. User avatar rolland.ratke says:

      5 stars
Aww that’s such a specific (and honestly perfect) description—cinnamon cereal + ice cream sounds amazing. The coating falling off can happen if the ice cream isn’t super frozen or if the fry time is a hair too long/short. Did you freeze it until rock-hard and work quickly after coating?

  130. User avatar rickiestmorty says:

    2 stars
I’m skeptical. Fried ice cream sounds like a meme, not real food. Like… how can it stay cold with hot oil? Mine melted the second I looked at it.

  131. User avatar clifford.kovacek16 says:

    4 stars
Cornflakes + cinnamon is such a vibe. I didn’t have vanilla, so I used another flavor and it still slapped.

  132. User avatar gwyneth.wiegand53 says:

    4 stars
Cornflakes + egg breading actually works. I’m not gonna lie, I was skeptical, but the crunch stayed for a few minutes before it softened. Great for impressing guests.

  133. User avatar bruno.williamson2009 says:

    2 stars
375°F for 10-15 seconds is so fast I’m skeptical it’ll actually set. Like, won’t the coating just slide off? Maybe my oil temp was off but mine didn’t look “golden” at all.

  134. User avatar nicki.hansen77 says:

    2 stars
I don’t get why you need to freeze it until very hard—wouldn’t it just fry anyway? Mine spread a bit, so I guess the freezing matters.

    1. User avatar dewey.maggio31 says:

      5 stars
I think the super-hard freeze is so it doesn’t melt the second it hits the oil. If it’s not frozen solid, the coating heats but the ice cream starts turning liquid inside and then it kind of “runs” and spreads.

  135. User avatar jeffery.ryan says:

    2 stars
Wait… do you really heat oil to 375°F and fry for 15 seconds without melting the ice cream? Mine would turn into soup 😅

    1. 5 stars
Yep—fast is the key 😄 Keep the oil at 375°F and make sure the ice cream is *super* frozen. The thick coating insulates it, so it doesn’t have time to melt into soup in just ~10–15 seconds.

  136. User avatar Lizzie Hyatt says:

    5 stars
The timing is everything. I had to do everything in parallel (coat while the oil heats) and it came out perfect.

  137. User avatar jolyn.lesch1976 says:

    2 stars
One scoop?? I think you need more ice cream. Also mine turned out soggy like regular fried stuff. Not my favorite.

  138. User avatar maricruz.roberts1974 says:

    5 stars
The egg step helps so much with sticking. I double-coated like the recipe and it turned out super golden. My kids went feral lol.

    1. User avatar ashley.kuphal says:

      5 stars
Yes! That egg double-coat is the magic for me too—keeps it from melting into sadness. 😄

  139. 4 stars
My egg didn’t really stick the first time. I re-rolled and refroze the balls for 10 min and that fixed it.

  140. User avatar adele.kutch says:

    4 stars
I’m not usually into fried desserts, but the cornflakes crust is genius. The egg step helps a ton. Only thing: my ice cream started melting while I was breading it, so I worked faster and used a colder scoop.

    1. User avatar jewel.morar1976 says:

      5 stars
Yes!! That cornflakes crust really is the move. And totally agree—freezing hard + moving fast makes a big difference. I’ve had the same melting problem when I got distracted 😅

  141. User avatar shon.mccullough75 says:

    2 stars
I tried one. It was golden… but the inside melted almost instantly. Next time I’ll freeze longer.

  142. User avatar vada.tillman1999 says:

    5 stars
My kids loved it. They said it tastes like dessert fireworks lol. Will make again.

    1. User avatar denver.damore23 says:

      5 stars
Aww that’s the best kind of review 😂 “dessert fireworks” is exactly how it feels. I’m definitely trying this again too!

  143. 4 stars
Mine didn’t stay golden for long, it got a little soggy fast. Next time I’ll make the coating thicker and fry closer to 10 seconds like you said.

  144. User avatar daryl.kris says:

    2 stars
Not gonna lie, I burned one batch. I didn’t heat the oil to the right temp and the coating went dark immediately. But the second try at 375°F was way better.

    1. User avatar celestine.wisoky31 says:

      5 stars
Oh nooo, but that’s actually super relatable 😅 Dark that fast usually means the oil was too hot or the coating didn’t have time to set. Nice recovery on the 375°F though!

    2. 3 stars
375°F is like, pretty specific… I always forget and just eyeball it. I think mine might’ve been too low/high because the coating turned soggy instead of crisp. Still tasty, just not as “golden” 😂

  145. User avatar misti.krajcik26 says:

    2 stars
Way too much work for a quick dessert in my opinion. Also, 1 cup oil feels like a guess—mine barely covered anything.

  146. User avatar sanda.morissette says:

    4 stars
Wow. Chocolate drizzle on top made it next-level. This is the first time I didn’t overthink it—just freeze hard and fry quick. 10/10 would do again.

    1. User avatar nilsa.schultz2 says:

      5 stars
Chocolate drizzle really does the trick 😄 I love that you kept it simple—freeze hard + quick fry is the whole secret. Going on my list!

  147. User avatar tissues_with_issues says:

    3 stars
I followed it pretty closely, but my coating kept sliding off. Next time I’ll make sure the ice cream is *extra* frozen and I’ll work faster when dipping in the egg.

  148. User avatar grant.gottlieb95 says:

    4 stars
The timing part is real. If you go longer than 15 seconds it turns into a melted mess. Still delicious though.
