Egg in a Hole with Bacon

August 27, 2025

Egg in a Hole with Bacon is one of those timeless breakfast dishes that feels both playful and comforting. It is a meal that takes something as simple as bread, eggs, and bacon and turns it into a plate full of character. The golden egg resting neatly in the center of toasted bread has a nostalgic charm, often reminding people of lazy weekend mornings or the first time they learned to cook something special. Pairing it with crispy bacon elevates it to a hearty and satisfying breakfast that can easily carry you through a busy day.

What makes Egg in a Hole so appealing is its simplicity. It is not overly fancy, yet it manages to feel like a treat. The combination of warm, buttered bread, a perfectly cooked egg, and salty bacon is hard to beat. This dish is also incredibly versatile. It can be dressed up with fresh herbs, avocado slices, or even a sprinkle of cheese, or it can be enjoyed in its most basic form for a quick and filling bite. Its playful presentation also makes it a favorite for families, especially kids who love seeing the egg peek through the bread.

Beyond its taste, Egg in a Hole with Bacon fits beautifully into modern breakfast trends. People love dishes that are both Instagram-worthy and approachable, and this one checks all the boxes. It is easy to imagine it being served at a rustic café, paired with a latte or a freshly squeezed juice, yet it is just as enjoyable when made at home.

The addition of bacon adds depth and crunch, balancing the softness of the egg and bread. The smoky, savory flavor of bacon makes this dish feel indulgent, perfect for a weekend brunch or a cozy breakfast in bed. Despite its simple ingredients, Egg in a Hole with Bacon delivers comfort and satisfaction in every bite. It is a dish that invites creativity but does not require it to be delicious. That is the beauty of classics like this: they prove that sometimes the simplest meals are the most memorable, offering both flavor and nostalgia on a single plate.

Why would anyone eat bread with a hole in it? Seems wasteful.

Looks easy, but my egg ended up all over the place. Maybe I cut the hole too big??

    1. 4 stars
It happens! Maybe try a smaller cutter next time. The size of the hole can really make a difference! 😊
