Easy Mediterranean Chicken and Orzo

June 17, 2025

If you’re looking for a dish that’s flavorful, satisfying, and refreshingly simple, look no further than Easy Mediterranean Chicken and Orzo. Bursting with bright flavors and wholesome ingredients, this one-pan meal brings a taste of the Mediterranean straight to your dinner table with minimal cleanup and maximum flavor.

At its core, this dish features tender, golden-browned chicken thighs or breasts simmered with orzo pasta, a rice-shaped pasta that absorbs all the savory juices and Mediterranean spices. Infused with garlic, lemon, oregano, and a splash of olive oil, every bite is layered with warmth and zest.

What makes this recipe truly shine is the combination of classic Mediterranean ingredients—juicy cherry tomatoes, fresh spinach or kale, and crumbled feta cheese stirred in just before serving. These additions bring brightness, saltiness, and a touch of creamy tang that beautifully balance the richness of the chicken and orzo.

Not only is this meal vibrant and delicious, but it also comes together quickly, making it perfect for busy weeknights. Everything cooks in one pan, meaning you spend less time washing dishes and more time enjoying a nourishing, well-rounded meal. It’s also highly customizable—swap in sun-dried tomatoes, roasted red peppers, or artichoke hearts based on what you have on hand.

Serve it straight from the skillet with a squeeze of fresh lemon juice and a sprinkle of fresh herbs like parsley or basil. Whether you’re feeding a hungry family or prepping lunch for the week, Mediterranean Chicken and Orzo is a smart, feel-good choice that brings the sunny flavors of Greece and Italy to your home kitchen.

Simple, healthy, and full of fresh ingredients—this dish is proof that dinner doesn’t need to be complicated to be incredible.

Yum! This reminds me of my trip to Greece. Love the feta cheese on top! Will recommend to my friends.

Why not just use rice? Orzo is overrated tbh. 🤷‍♂️

    1. 5 stars
I think orzo adds a special texture to the dish! Rice is good, but orzo is just different and more fun. 😄

  3. 5 stars
This recipe was a hit at dinner! So easy to make and delicious. Definitely doing it again! 😊

  4. User avatar CTRLplusW says:

    5 stars
Delish! I added some olives too. Who doesn’t love a Mediterranean vibe?

    1. User avatar noelia.wilkinson says:

Olives sound great! I love adding my own twist to recipes. What kind did you use?

  5. 3 stars
Not bad, but I feel like it needed more flavor. Maybe some garlic or seasoning? 🤔

  6. 2 stars
Easy, but my orzo turned out mushy. Followed the instructions exactly, not sure what went wrong. 😩

  7. 5 stars
Yum! I added some olives too, and that made it even better. Thanks for sharing!

  8. User avatar loretta.christiansen97 says:

Pretty good and easy—didn’t feel like I was stuck in the kitchen forever. Next time I might add garlic or some red pepper flakes for a little kick.

    1. 5 stars
Totally agree—this one’s a weeknight win. The lemon + feta combo already has a nice punch, but garlic/red pepper sounds like a great upgrade.

  9. User avatar Daedric Prince says:

    3 stars
It was alright, but I wish there were more spices. Lacked a little zing for me.

    1. User avatar daren.adams says:

      4 stars
I totally get what you mean! A bit of cayenne or some garlic could’ve elevated it. Next time, I’m adding my own spices for sure!

  10. 5 stars
YUM!! This is gonna be my go-to recipe for sure.

  11. User avatar kemberly.conroy says:

    4 stars
I omitted the spinach—yuck! But still came out good. 🥴

  12. User avatar Sabre Cat says:

    3 stars
Quick question…is oregano really needed? Can I use Italian seasoning instead?

  13. User avatar MrsLucyG says:

    3 stars
Y’all are crazy! Feta in there is just strange. The recipe is alright tho.

  14. 2 stars
Okay but, chicken is dry even if you cook it right. What is up with that?

  15. User avatar imogene.runolfsdottir says:

    4 stars
So yum! Just don’t burn the chicken like I did.

    1. User avatar Joe Wisozk says:

      4 stars
Haha, I’ve been there! Timing is everything! At least the flavors are still good!

    2. 2 stars
Burnt chicken? Eww! How can you mess that up? Just watch it cook next time!

  16. User avatar emilio.romaguera7 says:

    3 stars
Quick and easy, but the chicken didn’t cook through for me. Be careful!

  17. 4 stars
I didn’t have feta, used cheddar instead. Not the same but still good.

    1. 4 stars
Cheddar?! Really? That’s different but I guess it can work. I think feta adds a nice tangy flavor though.

    2. User avatar leena.deckow says:

      5 stars
I don’t like feta anyway. Cheddar sounds like a better choice! Gotta try it that way next time!

  18. User avatar ricky.torp says:

    3 stars
I followed it mostly but my orzo was slightly mushy. I think I maybe added a little extra water. Flavor was still solid though—Mediterranean vibes!

  19. 3 stars
I followed the recipe but it turned out kinda bland. Maybe needs more seasoning?

  20. User avatar joe_banana says:

    3 stars
I mean, it’s okay. But why is there orzo? Just use rice! 🙄

  21. User avatar mika.bogisich says:

    5 stars
Made this tonight and it was super comforting. The lemon really brightened everything, and the chicken stayed juicy. I used a bit more feta because… why not 😄

  22. User avatar ina.funk65 says:

    4 stars
Took me longer than 20 minutes, but it was worth it! 😅

  23. User avatar dara.brekke says:

Very simple… like, too simple. I expected more steps. Still, it tasted decent, not bad at all. My kid asked for seconds, so yeah.

  24. User avatar carrol.heaney66 says:

    5 stars
This recipe is so easy and delicious! I love how all the flavors blend together. A big hit at my family dinner!

  25. User avatar joe_banana says:

    2 stars
Too much lemon for my taste. It overpowered everything. 2/5.

  26. User avatar rickiestmorty says:

    4 stars
Yummy! My kids ate it all, which is rare! Will try it with more veggies next time.

  27. User avatar Pizpot Gargravarr says:

    4 stars
I swapped chicken for tofu since I’m vegetarian. Still came out pretty good!

  28. User avatar mathWizard says:

    5 stars
This tasted like something I’d order at a casual Mediterranean place. The tomatoes burst and the spinach went perfect. I’ll definitely make again—maybe with grilled chicken next time.

  29. User avatar elizebeth.wisoky21 says:

    3 stars
What is orzo? Never seen that before. Is rice okay instead?

    1. User avatar Monroe Considine says:

      4 stars
Orzo is a type of pasta shaped like rice! If you can’t find it, rice could work but the texture will be different. Give it a try and see! 😊

I tried this last night but used quinoa instead of orzo. It wasn’t the same 😢.

    1. User avatar zandra.langosh says:

      4 stars
Quinoa is healthy but yeah, it’s not the same as orzo. Maybe try it again with orzo next time! 😊

  35. User avatar janyce.williamson74 says:

    4 stars
Pretty easy to follow, but I switched out spinach for kale. It was ok.

    1. User avatar Questular Rontok says:

      4 stars
Kale is great but can be a bit too tough for this dish. Maybe try throwing it in longer? Otherwise, sounds delish!

    2. User avatar smartestRedditor says:

      3 stars
Spinach or kale, who cares? It just needs more cheese! Can’t go wrong with more feta, right?

  36. 4 stars
I don’t like spinach, can I use something else?

  37. User avatar angie.ritchie99 says:

    5 stars
Really liked this recipe. The lemon makes it so refreshing! 😊

  38. User avatar erica.rice1979 says:

Not really convinced by the chicken and pasta combo. Just feel weird.

  39. 5 stars
So many steps! I’m not a chef but I made it! Yay me!

Love the lemon touch! Made it for a potluck and it was gone in minutes!

So glad it was a hit! Gotta love those potluck moments! 😊

  41. User avatar dante.mckenzie says:

What’s orzo? I thought it was a type of fish. 🤷‍♂️ Anyway, my pasta was too mushy.

  42. 5 stars
Yum! So fresh and tasty! I added some olives too. This will be my go-to dish!

  43. User avatar sybil.abbott1978 says:

    3 stars
I followed the steps pretty closely, but my orzo didn’t brown much—kinda stayed pale. Maybe I needed higher heat? Still tasty though, especially with the chicken golden bits.

  44. User avatar Lord Jabu-Jabu says:

    3 stars
Is it healthy? I want to lose weight but this looks kinda heavy.

    1. User avatar mari.gusikowski64 says:

      4 stars
It looks delicious! Just watch your portion sizes, and it can fit into a healthy diet. 🌱

  45. 5 stars
    Just two words: yummy yummy!

  46. 4 stars
Omg I accidentally used penne pasta instead of orzo. Still turned out okay tho 🤷‍♀️.

    1. 3 stars
But isn’t orzo supposed to be like… tiny rice? Penne is so diff, hope it tasted fine tho.

    2. User avatar jewell.rosenbaum3 says:

      5 stars
Penne works too! As long as it tastes good, right? 🙌

  47. User avatar willie.renner says:

    2 stars
Tried it and it came out bland to me. Maybe my oregano was old? I ended up adding salt and more lemon and then it was fine.

  48. User avatar Falmer Archer says:

    4 stars
Just made this and it’s so easy! I’m not a cook, and it turned out great!

  49. User avatar Gandalf the Grey says:

    5 stars
Tasted amazing! My kids even liked it, which is a miracle. 👍

  50. User avatar trey.conn83 says:

    3 stars
Could’ve been better. My orzo was mushy. Maybe I cooked it too long? 🤔

  51. User avatar chastity.shanahan says:

    3 stars
Not bad, but my kids didn’t eat it. They are picky eaters tho.

  52. User avatar kimberli.nienow8 says:

    5 stars
Tried this for dinner and my kids loved it! Thanks for the recipe! 👏

  53. 2 stars
Meh, not my cup of tea, the orzo is weird.

    1. User avatar vernon.kohler25 says:

      2 stars
Weird? I think it’s just fine! Maybe you just don’t know how to cook it right? Just saying!

    2. User avatar bobbi.sanford says:

Tasted good but my orzo got mushy. Any tips for cooking it better?

  55. User avatar renate.rippin66 says:

    2 stars
This recipe is like super good, but mine came out all mushy…what did I do wrong? 🤔

    1. User avatar suspiciousCommentator says:

      4 stars
Maybe you added too much water? Or didn’t cook the orzo long enough? It’s easy to mess that part up! 🙈

  56. User avatar virgie.veum1962 says:

    2 stars
Why are you using feta? Doesn’t it taste weird? I stick with cheddar.

  57. User avatar tula.klocko35 says:

    5 stars
I’m picky about feta and honestly this nailed it. The creamy salty top at the end is the best part. Will make again!

    1. User avatar lenore.lebsack26 says:

      5 stars
Totally agree—feta can make or break it. That creamy salty top moment is everything 😍

    2. User avatar Dwarven Shpere says:

      3 stars
Hmm I’m not usually a feta person but I tried this anyway. I wouldn’t call it “creamy” unless you use good feta—mine was kinda dry, still tasted okay though.

  58. User avatar paz.schinner19 says:

    1 star
What a shame, I followed the instructions exactly, and it burned!

  59. User avatar elizabet.kihn35 says:

    2 stars
Simple and quick, but my orzo got mushy. Cook the pasta right, people! Smh.

    1. User avatar San Shenlong says:

      5 stars
I totally get that! Orzo can be tricky, but if you keep an eye on it, it’ll come out great. Don’t give up! 🥗

    2. 3 stars
Really? I had no issues with the orzo. Maybe you cooked it too long? 🙄

  60. User avatar darci.langosh1951 says:

    5 stars
This was so easy and delish! My kids loved it!

    1. User avatar lady.stracke says:

So glad your kids liked it! This recipe really is a game changer for busy nights! 😄

    2. User avatar anonymous_hacker says:

      3 stars
I dunno, sounds kinda too easy. Is it really that good or just a bunch of hype?
