Easy Baked Chicken Parmesan

January 25, 2024

Chicken Parmesan is one of those universally loved dishes that brings comfort to the table no matter the season. With its golden breaded chicken, savory tomato sauce, and melty layer of cheese, it’s the kind of meal that feels like a warm hug. This baked version keeps all the flavor you love but skips the mess and excess oil that comes with frying, making it a weeknight-friendly favorite.

What makes baked Chicken Parmesan so appealing is its simplicity. Instead of standing over a pan of hot oil, the chicken is baked in the oven until crispy and golden. It still gets that satisfying crunch, thanks to a well-seasoned breadcrumb coating, but with less effort and cleanup. Once baked, it’s topped with marinara sauce and a generous handful of shredded mozzarella or parmesan, then returned to the oven just long enough to melt into a bubbling, cheesy topping.

The result is everything you want in a comfort food dish, juicy, crispy chicken with rich tomato flavor and plenty of gooey cheese. It’s hearty and filling but doesn’t feel heavy, and it pairs beautifully with pasta, salad, or roasted veggies. It’s also great for meal prep. Leftovers reheat well and can even be used in a sandwich or wrap the next day.

Baked Chicken Parmesan is a smart way to enjoy a classic dish without the extra grease or time commitment. It’s approachable, adaptable, and always satisfying. Whether you’re cooking for your family, hosting a casual dinner, or simply craving something familiar and delicious, this dish delivers every time.

And the best part? It’s one of those meals that pleases picky eaters and foodies alike. No need to reinvent the wheel – just bake it.

Not bad, but I wish it had a little more sauce inside the coating. It’s more like chicken with toppings than full-on chicken parm vibes.

  2. 1 star
Why you put GARLIC?! That dont go with chicken! Not following this one again.

Ok so I used regular Parmesan but maybe not grated enough—coating was a little clumpy. Still tasty though. Would recommend mixing longer.

  4. 2 stars
Easy, yes. But why would anyone use butter and not just olive oil? Seems unhealthy.

  5. 4 stars
I accidentally used cheddar cheese instead of mozzarella… still yummy! 😂

Easy to make! I’m not a cook, but my kids loved it. I’ll try it again for sure!

I thought Chicken Parm was supposed to be fried? Why bake? Odd.

    1. 5 stars
Baking makes it healthier! Plus, it’s so easy to clean up. Love this recipe!

But is it really Chicken Parm if you don’t fry it? Seems off to me. Just sayin’.

  8. 3 stars
I mean, it’s okay but wasn’t anything special. The chicken was a bit dry.

I don’t like parmesan, is there a way to substitute it? Or can you just leave it off?

    1. User avatar eddie.mann88 says:

      4 stars
You could try using nutritional yeast or another cheese like mozzarella if you don’t want parmesan! It should still taste good!

    2. User avatar jermaine.orn93 says:

      3 stars
Just leave it off. It’s not the end of the world. You’ll still have chicken and sauce!

Glad you liked it, but isn’t it just too cheesy? I prefer mine less saucy, more plain.

Garlic powder + marinara + cheese? That’s basically guaranteed happiness. I’ll make this again. Simple and works.

    1. User avatar lola.parker says:

      5 stars
Yes!! Garlic powder + marinara + cheese is my love language 😄 I made it exactly like this and it was so easy—crispy enough and super flavorful.

    2. User avatar Trillian says:

      4 stars
Sounds good but I think 20 min might be short for thicker chicken breasts. I usually bake longer till it hits like 165°F, otherwise it’s a bit dry. Still gonna try though.

  26. User avatar remedios.abernathy7 says:

Yummmm! The cheese is everything. I would suggest using more marinara sauce though.

    1. 3 stars
I dunno, I think it has enough sauce. Too much can make it soggy, right? Just a thought.

    2. User avatar Slartibartfast says:

      5 stars
Totally agree! More marinara would make it saucier and yummier. I always drown mine in sauce! 😋

  27. 2 stars
Why use butter? Ain’t olive oil healthier? 🤷‍♂️

    1. User avatar ludie.moen says:

      4 stars
Olive oil is definitely healthier, but butter adds a rich flavor! Can’t go wrong with either in moderation. 😊

    2. 3 stars
Butter makes it taste way better! Like, idk if olive oil can do that haha. 🤷‍♀️

  28. User avatar marx.vonrueden2 says:

I don’t know if I did something wrong but the chicken turned out kinda dry. I followed the recipe exactly.

  29. User avatar mason.bartoletti51 says:

This is not real Italian food! You need more spices and less cheese.

    1. 4 stars
Italian food is all about balance! The cheese adds creaminess and flavor. Maybe you just need to try it!

    2. User avatar winnie.dicki1996 says:

      5 stars
Less cheese? Are you kidding? That’s like saying pizza should have no cheese!

  30. User avatar carlee.corkery52 says:

    3 stars
I don’t know, 400°F seems a bit high? Mine browned too fast on the bottom before the chicken was fully done. I ended up covering with foil.

  31. User avatar gayle.swaniawski89 says:

    4 stars
Yummy chicken parm! Is the marinara sauce from a jar acceptable? 🤷‍♂️

  32. User avatar norman.bailey74 says:

    4 stars
I didn’t have parmesan so I used cheddar instead. It still turned out good! 😂

  33. User avatar gene.howe41 says:

Can you really call this Parmesan if there’s no actual cheese in it? I mean, come on!

  34. User avatar Russell Ingleaves says:

    2 stars
What is marinara sauce??? Can I use ketchup instead? Asking for a friend.

Way too salty for my taste. Followed the recipe exactly and yikes! 😳

    1. 4 stars
I totally understand. I think I put too much salt the first time I made it too. Maybe try less salt next time? 😅

    2. 2 stars
Salt? What are you talkin about? That’s like the most imp ingredient, or else its bland! 😂

  38. User avatar denis.cronin1962 says:

    2 stars
I dunno. Chicken kinda dry for me. Maybe I did it wrong?

  39. User avatar casey.dach31 says:

    2 stars
I don’t know about this recipe. Chicken in the oven for 25 mins? That seems like too much. 😬

  40. User avatar dwana.murphy says:

    5 stars
Yummm! I added some crushed red pepper for a kick. Will definitely make again!
