Strawberry Chocolate Chip Scones

April 30, 2026

There’s something undeniably comforting about a warm scone fresh from the oven – crisp edges, tender crumb, and just the right touch of sweetness. These Strawberry Chocolate Chip Scones take that classic comfort and give it a fruity, chocolatey upgrade perfect for brunch, afternoon tea, or a cozy breakfast treat.

The base of this recipe is a traditional scone dough made with cold butter, flour, and just enough cream to bring everything together. The magic happens when you fold in chunks of fresh strawberries and a handful of semi-sweet chocolate chips. The strawberries add juicy bursts of flavor, while the chocolate melts into little pools of richness, making each bite feel like dessert.

To keep the strawberries from releasing too much moisture, toss them in a bit of flour before mixing them into the dough. This small step helps maintain that signature crumbly scone texture without making the dough soggy. The key to a perfect scone is not overworking the dough, mix just until it comes together, then shape it gently and cut into wedges or circles.

Before baking, brush the tops with a little cream and sprinkle with raw sugar for a crisp, golden finish. Once baked, the scones are light, tender, and slightly crisp on the edges, with the irresistible aroma of strawberries and warm chocolate filling your kitchen.

These scones are best enjoyed slightly warm, perhaps with a pat of butter or a drizzle of honey. They pair beautifully with a cup of cinnamon tea or a cappuccino, making them a lovely way to start a weekend morning or treat yourself during the day.

Whether you’re baking for guests or simply indulging in a little self-care, Strawberry Chocolate Chip Scones offer a sweet, bakery-worthy experience right from your own oven. They’re simple, satisfying, and just a little bit special, proof that the best things in life are often baked with love and shared with joy.

Scones? More like bricks. Mine came out so hard that I couldn’t even cut them.

    1. User avatar xiomara.lind54 says:

      3 stars
Bricks? Really? Maybe you missed a step or put in too much flour. Everyone else says they’re delicious!

    2. User avatar leigh.labadie says:

      4 stars
Sounds like you might’ve overworked the dough. It shouldn’t be that hard if done right!

    1. User avatar colin.mitchell says:

      5 stars
Frozen strawberries work too! Glad it turned out good for you. Scones are super forgiving like that.

    2. 3 stars
I wouldn’t have thought frozen would be as good. Does it change the taste much?

  32. User avatar oPandariaNo says:

    3 stars
Great recipe! But I used old strawberries and they were mushy. Gotta use fresh ones!

    1. 4 stars
So true! Fresh strawberries make all the difference. Last time I made these, I used berries that were a lil too ripe and it messed up the texture. But still delicious!

  33. 1 star
What’s wrong with these scones? They don’t taste like chocolate at all! Seriously disappointed.

    1. 3 stars
I dunno, my scones taste fine. Maybe you just made ’em wrong? Follow the instructions better next time!

    2. User avatar earleen.dooley says:

      4 stars
These scones are supposed to be strawberry choclate chip, not just chocolate. Maybe you missed the strawberries? They can overpower the chocolate taste!

    5 stars
Made these for brunch with my friends. They raved about them! Can’t believe how simple it was.

  35. User avatar manuel.smith says:

    1. User avatar suzanne.emard77 says:

      3 stars
I dunno, I think they tasted great as is. But hey, if lemon zest is your thing, go for it! Just don’t overdo it, or it can taste weird.

    2. User avatar rudy.veum68 says:

      5 stars
I can’t believe you thought they lacked flavor! These are my favorite breakfast treat! Maybe you just need to play with the flavors a bit more. Lemon sounds like an interesting idea! 🍋

  36. 3 stars
Why do you need to add salt if you’re using butter? Isn’t that redundant? 🤔

  37. 2 stars
Not a fan. The chocolate chips just made everything too sweet. Maybe less sugar next time?

    1. User avatar rich.landlord says:

      4 stars
I actually loved them! The sweetness was perfect for my taste, but I guess everyone has their preferences. Maybe try adding more strawberries instead? 🍓

This was super easy! I didn’t have chocolate chips, so I added nuts instead. Yum!

  41. User avatar winona.hills1993 says:

    1 star
Why do you have to use cold butter? Can’t I just use melted butter? Confused.

    1. User avatar terrell.torphy64 says:

      5 stars
Cold butter helps create a flaky texture in baked goods like scones. Melted butter would make them dense and heavy. Trust the process!

  42. User avatar heath.pouros15 says:

    5 stars
These scones are amazing! The sweetness from the strawberries and chocolate chips is just perfect. Highly recommend!

  43. 5 stars

Nah, not for me. Strawberries and chocolate should stay separate. Thumbs down.

    1. User avatar Slartibartfast says:

      2 stars
Um, why not just eat them separate then? Seems kinda weird mixing them in a scone. Just my thought.

    2. 5 stars
I totally disagree! Strawberries and chocolate are a match made in heaven. Give it a try, you might change your mind!

  57. User avatar jacklyn.kuphal30 says:

Maybe you added too much milk? I never had issues with this recipe, but dough can be tricky, I guess.

      5 stars
Don’t worry, sticky dough can happen! Make sure to flour your surface well next time. You got this!

    2. User avatar Falmer Nightprowler says:

      5 stars
Mine turned out great! Maybe your butter wasn’t cold enough? That can mess with the texture! 😊

  69. User avatar ArabianNights says:

Used frozen strawberries instead of fresh, and they were still good! But maybe fresh would be even better?

  70. User avatar Cornell Kirlin says:

Way too much sugar for my taste. I like things more on the savory side. Next time less sugar, maybe?

    1. User avatar jaleesa.hintz77 says:

      5 stars
I totally get that! A little less sugar could really balance out those strawberries. Love a good savory twist on sweets!

    2. User avatar jarod.bayer24 says:

      2 stars
But isn’t the sugar what makes them taste good? I mean, strawberry and chocolate is sweet, right? Maybe you just need to try it first.

I love that you found a recipe that reminds you of your grandma! These scones sound amazing, and chocolate makes everything better! 🍫❤️
