Chocolate Covered Banana Pops

July 22, 2025

Chocolate Covered Banana Pops are the kind of nostalgic treat that takes you straight back to summer afternoons, sticky fingers, and that perfect blend of frozen fruit and sweet chocolate. Whether you’re making them for kids, friends, or just yourself, they’re fun, easy to prepare, and surprisingly satisfying.

Start with ripe but firm bananas. Cut them in half and insert wooden sticks or sturdy skewers. From there, pop them in the freezer for about an hour, this helps firm them up so they don’t fall apart when dipped in warm chocolate. That chilled center also gives you that satisfying bite once they’re coated and re-frozen.

The magic is in the chocolate coating. A basic combo of melted chocolate chips with a little coconut oil gives the shell that perfect crack when you take a bite. You can use dark chocolate for a richer taste or milk chocolate for a classic twist. Either way, it turns into a glossy, beautiful shell once the bananas hit the cold air again.

Then comes the fun part – toppings. This is where you can go wild: crushed peanuts, sprinkles, mini chocolate chips, shredded coconut, even a swirl of peanut butter or caramel drizzle before the chocolate sets. Customize each pop to your taste or turn it into a group activity where everyone gets to build their own.

Once decorated, the banana pops go back into the freezer until the chocolate is set – just an hour or so, and then they’re ready to eat. They make for a great grab-and-go snack on hot days, a clever dessert for kids’ parties, or a low-effort, high-reward treat when you’re craving something sweet but not too heavy.

These banana pops are also a better-for-you dessert option, especially when made with dark chocolate and nuts. They’re naturally sweet from the fruit, with just enough indulgence to feel like a treat.

Why does my chocolate not stick? Anyone else have this problem?

    1. 4 stars
Maybe try cooling the chocolate a bit more before dipping? That worked for me! 🍌🍫

    2. 2 stars
I don’t understand, isn’t chocolate just supposed to stick? Are you using the right kind?
