Chicken Shawarma Tacos bring together the best of two worlds – the bold Middle Eastern flavors of chicken shawarma wrapped in the fun, handheld style of a taco. Juicy, spiced chicken meets warm tortillas, fresh toppings, and creamy sauce for a fusion dish that’s vibrant, satisfying, and bursting with flavor in every bite.
The heart of this recipe is the chicken, marinated in a blend of warm spices like cumin, paprika, garlic, turmeric, and a touch of cinnamon. The marinade infuses every piece with rich, aromatic flavor, while a splash of lemon juice or yogurt keeps the meat tender and juicy. Once cooked, the chicken develops a slightly charred, golden exterior that perfectly complements the soft tortillas.
Each taco becomes a flavorful layering of textures and tastes. Crisp lettuce or cabbage adds freshness, sliced onions or pickled vegetables bring tang, and a drizzle of garlicky yogurt or tahini sauce ties everything together. The combination of spicy, savory chicken and cool, creamy toppings makes these tacos irresistible from the first bite.
What makes Chicken Shawarma Tacos so special is their versatility. They can be served as a casual weeknight dinner, a crowd-pleasing party dish, or even prepped ahead for meal planning. You can use traditional pita or switch it up with flour or corn tortillas for a modern twist. No matter how they’re served, the fusion of shawarma spice and taco flair feels fresh and exciting.
Chicken Shawarma Tacos capture the spirit of global comfort food – bold, approachable, and full of personality. Every bite is a little adventure, combining smoky spice with fresh, zesty flavor. It’s a dish that proves great food doesn’t have to follow borders; it just has to taste amazing..

Really nice! I added grilled veggies and it turned out great! 🥗
These are amazing!!! My family devoured them. Definitely a 5-star recipe!
Quick and easy meal! I just tossed everything in a wrap and it worked. 👍
YOLO! Tried this for my friends and they loved it! Adding hot sauce next time tho! 🌶️
Sounds awesome! Hot sauce definitely kicks it up a notch. 😋 Glad your friends loved it!
I followed the recipe but it tasted kinda bland. Not sure if I had the wrong spices or what. 🤷♂️
I don’t like cumin. Can I use something else? Pls help!
These tacos are super fresh! The herbs really make it pop! 🌿
I dunno, seems like a lotta ingredients for tacos. Can’t you just use store-bought stuff? 🤷♂️
Totally agree! The freshness of the herbs takes it to another level! 🌮✨
Too many ingredients! Who has time for all that? 🤔
My chicken didn’t cook through, took longer than 7 mins. Maybe my stove is too weak?
I had the same issue before! Maybe try cooking a little longer next time? Just don’t leave it on too long or it’ll get dry.
Basic but tasty, nothing special. I might try adding cheese next time.
Wow, these are the best tacos I’ve ever had! I added some hot sauce for extra spice. Yum!
These were *so* good—properly spiced without tasting like straight-up cumin. The yogurt-tahini sauce is the MVP. Will make again for taco night.
Tried this and it was tasty but I think the cumin amount is a little high? Like it still leaned cumin-y to me. Also I accidentally used Greek yogurt (still good). Next time I’ll tweak the spices and let the chicken marinate longer.
Yes!! The cinnamon/allspice combo is what makes it taste like actual shawarma instead of “taco seasoning.” Sauce is 100% the MVP—my family was fighting over it lol.
Is it really supposed to marinate for 30 minutes? I left it for an hour and it was super strong.
Marinating for an hour sounds too long for me too. I usually stick to the 30 min rule. Maybe try less time next time.
Why would 30 mins not be enough? Sounds like you left it too long! Tacos should be tasty not overpowering.
Can I use chili powder instead of paprika? I don’t have paprika at home. Still think it looks yum!
I don’t usually like shawarma, but this recipe made me a fan. I used beef instead and it still turned out great!
These tacos are just amazing! The spices were perfect, and the yogurt-tahini sauce added a nice touch. Definitely making this again!
It took me a bit longer to cook, and I burnt the chicken a little. But the flavor was still okay. Should have followed the timing better.
Burnt chicken??? That’s not how you make tacos! You gotta pay attention! 😤 It’s important to follow the timing.
Don’t worry! It happens to the best of us. A little burnt chicken can still be tasty with all those flavors. Next time, maybe set a timer? 😅
So good, even my kids loved ’em. Can we put chicken shawarma in everything now?
This recipe is simple but SO delicious! The spices are spot on. I will definitely make this again.
WOW! This was amazing! I made it for my family and they all loved it! Thanks for sharing!
I’m so glad to hear that! Family approval is the best! Did you make any changes to the recipe?
This was a lot of work for some tacos 😩. Can’t we just get takeout instead?
Too many spices for my taste. I prefer simpler flavors. Maybe just salt and pepper next time? 🤷♂️
Eh, they were alright, nothing special. I’m not a big fan of yogurt, so that kinda ruined it for me.
Yum! My family loved it, even the picky kids! One of the best dinner nights I’ve had!
Not bad, but I expected more from the spices. I think I’ll add more cumin next time.
Huh, spices? I thought it was good just the way it is. Maybe your taste buds are just too picky! 🤷♂️
I totally agree! A bit more spice would make it pop! Maybe try adding some chili flakes too next time. 🌶️
I dunno, I thought the spices were kinda overwhelming. Maybe I added too much?
Cumin + coriander + turmeric is a winning combo. I don’t even usually cook with tahini, but the yogurt-tahini sauce made it taste fancy. Will make again for sure.
Yes!! That spice combo is exactly what makes shawarma taste like shawarma 😄 The yogurt-tahini sauce is such a cheat code too.
Wow, these were amazing! The flavors are spot on and so easy to make!
Easy to make? I dunno, seems like a lot of steps. Can you just fry the chicken and throw the stuff in the tortilla? 🤔
I totally agree! The combination of flavors is just perfect. This is now my go-to recipe!
Not gonna lie I was skeptical about the yogurt + tahini, but it actually makes sense. Super creamy and not too tangy. Easy recipe.
Okay but this isn’t shawarma. Just saying. Tacos have beef! Not chicken!
