Blueberry Bread

July 29, 2024

There’s something about a freshly baked Blueberry Bread that makes any day feel like a special occasion. Whether you’re enjoying it with your morning coffee, as a sweet afternoon snack, or served at a brunch gathering, this easy-to-make loaf is the ultimate comfort treat.

The beauty of blueberry loaf lies in its simplicity. With just a few basic ingredients – flour, sugar, eggs, butter, and of course, fresh or frozen blueberries, you can create a moist, flavorful cake that’s bursting with juicy fruit. The blueberries not only add a touch of natural sweetness, but they also provide bursts of flavor in every bite.

What makes this loaf so irresistible is its tender crumb, which is created by using a combination of butter and sour cream (or yogurt). These ingredients contribute to the moisture and richness of the cake, making it delightfully soft and melt-in-your-mouth. A dash of vanilla extract and a sprinkle of lemon zest can add an extra layer of flavor, complementing the blueberries beautifully.

To make your loaf, simply mix the dry ingredients together, then fold in the wet ingredients along with the blueberries. Be careful not to overmix the batter to ensure the loaf stays light and fluffy. Once it’s in the pan, bake until golden and fragrant. The result is a gorgeous loaf with a lightly golden crust and a soft, buttery interior.

For an extra indulgent touch, you can drizzle the top with a simple glaze made of powdered sugar and lemon juice, or sprinkle a handful of extra blueberries over the top before baking for a burst of color and flavor.

This Blueberry Loaf is perfect for any occasion, whether you’re looking for a sweet breakfast treat or a dessert to share with friends. With its moist texture and sweet flavor, it’s a recipe that will become a staple in your kitchen.

Looks good but I wonder if the bread is maybe too sweet? I prefer less sugar in my recipes.

I tried it but it came out kinda dense. Not sure what I did wrong. Maybe I mixed it too much?

Totally agree! Blueberries are the best! I made this yesterday, and it was a hit!

  6. User avatar Misae Suma says:

    2 stars
Doesn’t sound right to me. Can you really mix milk and blueberries? Sounds odd.

    1. User avatar coy.grant70 says:

      5 stars
Mixing milk and blueberries is actually common in baking! It adds moisture to the bread. You should try it!

    2. User avatar dwain.casper72 says:

      2 stars
Nah, I don’t think this will be good. Milk and blueberries? Sounds like a weird combination to me.

  7. User avatar demarcus.herman31 says:

    3 stars
It turned out okay, but I think it could use more blueberries. I was expecting it to be bursting with flavor but it was kinda bland. ⭐⭐⭐

  8. 2 stars
Mmm… I got confused with cups and grams. Anyone can help?

  9. User avatar cornell.halvorson58 says:

I’m not a great cook, but this was really easy to follow. My bread didn’t look as pretty, but it tasted good! Thanks for sharing! ⭐⭐⭐⭐

I followed the recipe but it came out super dense. I think I might’ve mixed it too much. Any tips?

  11. User avatar nyla.schultz68 says:

Just baked this—so fluffy and the blueberries actually stayed juicy. The 60 minutes was spot on for my oven. Will definitely make again!

    1. User avatar daryl.torphy says:

      5 stars
Yes! Love hearing the blueberries stayed juicy. I’m glad 60 minutes worked out for you—my oven runs a little hot so I’m always guessing. Definitely making this soon.

This blueberry bread is simply delicious! My family loved it.

  13. User avatar marielle.graham says:

My kids loved it! I added some chocolate chips cause we were out of blueberries.

  14. User avatar damon.prohaska68 says:

One teaspoon baking powder seems like a lot? My loaf was kinda bitter and had a weird aftertaste. Could’ve been my vanilla or I overbaked, but it didn’t wow me.

  15. User avatar rickey.breitenberg82 says:

    5 stars
I was skeptical about the sugar/butter creaming step, but WOW. The crumb is soft and almost like pound cake. Definitely making again for breakfast.

  16. 5 stars
5 stars! Best I’ve ever had, and it’s so pretty with the blueberries!

  17. User avatar scottie.daniel says:

    2 stars
I followed this recipe exactly, but my bread turned out flat. What did I do wrong? 😕

    1. User avatar jerold.stamm92 says:

      3 stars
Did you make sure to measure everything right? Sometimes too much liquid can make it flat.

    2. 4 stars
Sorry to hear that! Maybe your baking powder was old? It can lose its power over time. 😟

  18. User avatar wilber.hessel86 says:

    4 stars
Nice recipe, but 350°F for 60 min—mine was done closer to 48. I’d suggest checking earlier because ovens vary a lot.

    1. User avatar hank.lueilwitz says:

      5 stars
Totally agree—my oven runs hot, so I was checking around 45 min too. “About 60” is doing a lot of work there 😅 Great call on oven variance.

  19. User avatar Draugr Overlord says:

    2 stars
Does anyone else find 1 tsp baking powder a little low? I usually do more. Mine didn’t rise much, still tasty though.

  20. User avatar cesar.raynor says:

    5 stars
Turned out super moist for a quick loaf! The vanilla really pops, and the bake time at ~60 minutes was spot on for my oven.

  21. User avatar alva.shanahan1984 says:

    2 stars
Uh, I did something wrong because mine didn’t rise at all. What did I do??

    1. User avatar kaitlin.kessler2018 says:

      4 stars
Maybe you forgot the baking powder? That could be why it didn’t rise. Don’t worry, it happens to the best of us!

  22. User avatar mathWizard says:

    2 stars
Is it really supposed to bake for 60 mins? Mine was burnt after 50. Be careful!

    1. 3 stars
60 mins seems long! I made it in 45 mins, and it was perfect. Maybe turn down the temp a bit?

    2. User avatar pauletta.schaden says:

      4 stars
I usually check mine around 50 mins too. Ovens can be different, so maybe yours runs hotter? Just keep an eye on it next time!

  23. User avatar juliana.roberts16 says:

    4 stars
I can’t eat eggs, so I used flaxseed instead. It still turned out great!

  24. User avatar Arletha Reinger says:

    5 stars
Perfect recipe! I added some lemon zest for a twist. So fresh and tasty!

  25. User avatar paula.nitzsche59 says:

    2 stars
Can I use almond milk instead of regular milk? Anyone tried that?

    1. User avatar earnest.powlowski says:

      5 stars
Yes, you can use almond milk! It should work fine. Just remember it might change the flavor a bit, but it’s still yummy!

  26. User avatar russ.johnson says:

    5 stars
Made this last weekend—so moist and the blueberry flavor is legit. I baked mine closer to 62 min and it came out perfectly.

  27. 4 stars
Does anyone know if I can use frozen blueberries? That’s all I got!

    1. User avatar elvis.gerlach1999 says:

      5 stars
Yes, frozen blueberries work great! Just make sure to not thaw them before adding.

  28. User avatar eldora.bogisich says:

    2 stars
It’s ok, but I’m not a fan of blueberries. Could be better without them.

  29. User avatar darcie.mayert1983 says:

    1 star
This is the most failed recipe I’ve tried. It turned out more like a pancake than bread. 😭

    1. User avatar bradley.considine6 says:

      2 stars
A pancake?? How did that happen? Did you use a different flour or something? Idk, but I feel like it should’ve been bread.

    2. User avatar ariane.halvorson1996 says:

      4 stars
I’m sorry to hear that! Sometimes recipes don’t turn out the way we expect them. Maybe it was the baking time? I’ve had my share of fails too! 😅

  30. User avatar merle.kovacek85 says:

    4 stars
I didn’t have blueberries, so I used strawberries instead. It was still good but not the same.

  31. User avatar rodney.reynolds66 says:

    4 stars
I like the simple steps, but I think 1 cup blueberries is too vague—mine sank a bit. Next time I’ll toss them in flour first.

  32. User avatar jeanene.pagac93 says:

    4 stars
I love quick breads and this one is super straightforward. Also, using frozen blueberries works—just dust them a bit with flour first.

  33. 2 stars
WHY so much butter? Isn’t that unhealthy? I think I’m gonna try less next time.

    1. User avatar donovan.carter85 says:

      4 stars
Butter makes it taste good! You need some fat for flavor.

  34. 2 stars
I followed the recipe exactly, but mine came out too dense. Maybe I mixed it too much? Not sure. Disappointed.

    1. User avatar emmett.spinka72 says:

      4 stars
Maybe you overmixed it? The batter should be just combined. Don’t worry, it happens to the best of us!

  35. User avatar ira.jakubowski says:

    2 stars
Meh. Too sweet for me. Also I forgot to cream butter long enough, so it was kinda grainy. Recipe is ok though.

  36. User avatar brook.gusikowski19 says:

    2 stars
Easy recipe but I forgot the salt and it was a disaster. Next time I won’t forget!

  37. User avatar liberal.hero says:

    3 stars
LOL this is just cake with berries, but I love it anyway.

    1. 5 stars
      Haha, true! But it’s a delicious cake-bread hybrid! 😄

    2. User avatar harland.dare72 says:

      3 stars
Is it really a bread tho? It feels more like dessert to me. 🤔

  38. 3 stars
It turned out too sweet for my taste. I think less sugar would work better.

  39. User avatar lyman.welch71 says:

    4 stars
This tastes good, but the batter was kinda thick. I added an extra splash of milk (like 1–2 tbsp) and it helped. Not sure if my measurements were off or butter was too cold.

    1. User avatar Charisse Kemmer says:

      5 stars
Glad the extra splash of milk helped! I’ve found the batter thick can happen if the butter isn’t fully softened—cold butter can make it more stiff than expected. Next time, try letting the butter sit out a bit longer before creaming, or add milk 1 tbsp at a time until it loosens up.

    2. User avatar Dan Streetmentioner says:

      4 stars
Mine was thick too, but I blamed the blueberries (like they soaked up all the liquid 😅). I added a little milk like you and it turned out fine. Maybe measurements—flour can be packed if you scoop with a cup. I started spooning and leveling and it was better.

  40. User avatar adolfo.green says:

    4 stars
This isn’t bread, it’s more like a cake, which is fine I guess, but you should call it cake!

    1. 4 stars
I see your point! It’s kinda cake-y for sure, but I love the blueberries. Yum!

  41. User avatar ArabianNights says:

    3 stars
My loaf turned out a bit dry on the edges even though the center was done. I’m guessing I overbaked. Next time I’ll tent with foil halfway through.

  42. User avatar leroy.stokes12 says:

    2 stars
Followed the steps exactly, but my loaf was dense in the middle even though the toothpick was mostly clean. Not sure if my oven runs hot.

    1. User avatar paz.kunze says:

      4 stars
Sounds like the oven could be off, yeah. Also, did you measure flour by weight (grams) or scooped? Too much flour can make it gummy/dense even if it’s technically baked through.

    2. 3 stars
Ugh, that’s frustrating. If the toothpick is mostly clean but the middle is dense, your loaf pan might be too small/thick or the oven runs cool. Next time, try baking 5–10 minutes longer and tent with foil if the top browns too fast.

  43. User avatar Leo Ritchie says:

    4 stars
This is my new weekend bake. I used melted butter by accident and it still worked—so forgiving. Blueberry bread vibes!

    1. User avatar trinidad.bartell says:

      4 stars
Melted butter still worked? Huh. I always thought butter needed to be softened only—kinda like if it gets too warm it won’t rise. Guess the baking powder saved it? Looks tasty though!

    2. 5 stars
Weekend bake mission accomplished 😄 Blueberry bread is the best. Love that it was forgiving even with melted butter!

  44. User avatar josue.denesik24 says:

    2 stars
I forgot to fold in the blueberries gently (more like aggressively stirred) and now I have purple streaks 😅 It’s still edible though—just uglier than the photos in my head.

  45. User avatar Frost Giant says:

    5 stars
This blueberry bread is amazing! Super moist and delicious. My family loved it!

Sounds good, but I don’t like blueberries. Can I use bananas instead? 🤔

    2. User avatar will.crooks says:

      5 stars
I tried it, and it turned out great! Thank you for sharing. 😋

  47. User avatar debera.collins says:

    4 stars
Super easy to make! I added some lemon zest for extra flavor. Yum!

  48. User avatar Genghis Khan says:

    3 stars
Not my fave. The sugar was too much for me. Next time I will cut down a bit. 🤷‍♂️

  49. 4 stars
Looks easy, but 350°F for 60 min seems long. I’d check at like 45 min next time, I think.

  50. User avatar Dr. Audrie Murazik says:

    3 stars
Easy to make, but I wish it had more blueberries. Like, what gives?

  51. User avatar reynaldo.crist64 says:

    1 star
I don’t understand why people love blueberries so much. It’s just a fruit!

    1. User avatar maria.schmitt29 says:

      4 stars
I get your point, but blueberries add a nice sweetness and flavor to recipes! It’s not just about the fruit itself.

  52. User avatar eusebio.greenholt70 says:

Why does it have eggs? Can I make it without? My friend says no eggs but I dont kno!

  53. User avatar camie.murphy1976 says:

I made this for my grandma, and she said it was the best bread she’s ever had. Gonna make it again!

That’s so sweet! I love that your grandma enjoyed it! Can’t wait to try it myself!

Mine didn’t brown much and the toothpick came out clean but the inside was kinda dense. Maybe I overmixed after adding flour?

  56. 3 stars
Honestly, the flavor is good but it’s pretty sweet. If you like less sugar, I’d cut it down to like 3/4 cup.

    Blueberries rule! 🍇🧁

  60. 5 stars
Made this today—so easy and the loaf is super tender. I used frozen blueberries and tossed them in a little flour first to prevent sinking. Came out great at 55 minutes.
