Baked Spaghetti

November 6, 2024

Baked Spaghetti is the perfect combination of classic comfort food and cheesy, oven-baked goodness. This dish takes everything you love about traditional spaghetti – savory meat sauce, tender pasta, and melted cheese – and bakes it into a hearty, satisfying casserole that is perfect for feeding a crowd or enjoying as leftovers.

The magic of Baked Spaghetti starts with the sauce. Ground beef or Italian sausage is cooked with onions, garlic, and Italian herbs, then simmered with crushed tomatoes or marinara until rich and flavorful. The cooked spaghetti is tossed with the sauce, layered in a baking dish, and covered with plenty of shredded mozzarella, parmesan, and sometimes ricotta or cream cheese for extra creaminess.

Once baked, the top becomes golden and bubbly, while the inside stays saucy and cheesy with every bite. It is like lasagna but even easier to prepare. You get the same comforting flavors without the extra steps of layering pasta sheets.

This dish is also wonderfully flexible. You can swap the meat for ground turkey, chicken, or a plant-based alternative, or load it up with vegetables like bell peppers, mushrooms, and spinach. Some versions even add a layer of cheese in the middle for extra indulgence.

Baked Spaghetti is easy to prepare ahead of time. Simply assemble the dish, cover it, and refrigerate until you are ready to bake. It is perfect for meal prepping, potlucks, or a cozy family dinner. Serve it with garlic bread and a simple green salad to complete the meal.

Every bite delivers cheesy, saucy, comforting goodness that feels like a warm hug. It is a family favorite for a reason, simple ingredients come together to make something truly delicious and satisfying. Baked Spaghetti is one of those dishes you will return to again and again.

Yummy! I made it for my family and they ate it all up! Highly recommend! 😋

Easy recipe but I forget to preheat oven. Ended up cooking spaghetti long and was soggy. Oops! Warning to others!

    1. User avatar jan.brekke3 says:

      4 stars
Sounds like a classic mistake! I’ve done that too and it’s so frustrating. But the good thing is, soggy or not, it probably still tasted alright! Just don’t forget next time.

    2. 3 stars
LOL, oops indeed! I always forget stuff too. Mine was a burnt mess once. But a good tip: set a timer for the oven! It helps.

  3. User avatar Demetrius Gaylord says:

This recipe is amazing! I never thought spaghetti could be this good. The cheese on top is perfect. Definitely a 5!

    1. User avatar Trin Tragula says:

      5 stars
I totally agree! This baked spaghetti recipe is a game changer! The cheese is out of this world!

  4. User avatar ellamae.deckow says:

    5 stars
I think adding parmesan cheese on top would be even better! Will try next time. This is definitely a keeper!

    1. 2 stars
Hmm, I don’t know. Parmesan might be too salty. But whatever, do what you want! 😂

    2. 5 stars
Parmesan sounds great! I usually add more spices too for some extra kick. Can’t wait to try this recipe again!

  5. User avatar shelba.haley says:

    3 stars
Pretty good, but I think it could use more seasoning. I like my food spicy. 😅

  6. User avatar markus.lueilwitz85 says:

I added some bell peppers and it turned out so good! Thanks for sharing!

    1. User avatar carlos.abbott says:

      5 stars
Wow, bell peppers! That’s a great twist. I never thought of adding them. I bet it adds a nice crunch!

  7. User avatar melda.wunsch1977 says:

This turned out super comforting. I used a little extra garlic and it was perfect for a weeknight dinner—everyone went back for seconds.

    1. User avatar lahoma.streich1988 says:

      5 stars
Totally agree—comfort food done right. I’m glad the garlic worked for you; this is one of those dinners where a little extra really pays off.

  8. User avatar oPandariaNo says:

    5 stars
Made this tonight and it was seriously comforting. The oregano+basil combo tastes super classic, and the mozzarella on top gets that perfect bubbly crust. I added a pinch of chili flakes—10/10.

  9. User avatar NAFO.SUPREMACY says:

    4 stars
Okay so… I forgot the garlic at first (oops), but I still made it work. I baked longer because my cheese wasn’t browning. Tasty!

    1. 5 stars
Honestly that’s the best kind of save 😂 If the cheese wasn’t browning, longer bake makes sense—ovens vary so much. Glad it still turned out tasty!

    2. User avatar fawn.jaskolski says:

      3 stars
Wait… you forgot the garlic? I feel like that’s kinda the whole point. 😅 But if it was still good, I guess timing and oven temp matter more than we think. Did you use the full 20-25 minutes at 180°C?

  10. User avatar Reg Nullify says:

    1 star
Spaghetti and cheese?? That’s what’s wrong with America! Eating garbage!

  11. User avatar stacey.harris1955 says:

    4 stars
Soo easy to make! Takes no time at all, and it’s comfort food, too!

    1. User avatar ollie.kshlerin49 says:

      5 stars
I totally agree! This recipe is a lifesaver when I’m short on time. Love it!

    2. User avatar carl.dare1961 says:

      2 stars
I don’t know… seems a bit too easy. Is it really that good? What if it turns out bland?

  12. User avatar inga.durgan says:

    4 stars
Baked spaghetti?! Never heard of that. Sounds weird, but I’ll try it. What’s the worst that could happen?

  13. User avatar robin.nikolaus says:

    4 stars
I didn’t have mozzarella, so I used cheddar. It still tasted good!

    1. User avatar sherise.jaskolski says:

      3 stars
Hmm, cheddar on spaghetti? That’s a bit odd, don’t you think? Mozzarella really makes it Italian!

    2. User avatar jeff.collier1973 says:

      5 stars
That’s awesome! Cheddar can be just as good as mozzarella sometimes. I love experimenting with cheese!

  14. User avatar cameron.kertzmann says:

    5 stars
Made this tonight and it was super comforting. The mozzarella gets nice and gooey, and the sauce flavor is on point. I’ll definitely do this again—maybe add a little chili flake for a kick.

  15. User avatar hilton.dibbert8 says:

    1 star
Why would you put beef in spaghetti? That’s not how my grandma did it. 1 star.

  16. User avatar anonymous_hacker says:

    5 stars
Yum! My kids devoured it! Can’t believe how easy it was to make! 😍

  17. User avatar Ms. Millard Lowe says:

So delicious! My whole family loved it. Could you maybe add some veggies next time?

  18. User avatar Jerry Marks says:

    3 stars
It was alright but I’ve had better from the restaurant down the street.

    1. User avatar manual.macejkovic73 says:

      4 stars
I totally get it! Sometimes homemade just doesn’t hit the same as a restaurant meal. Maybe try adding some extra spices next time?

    2. User avatar Ma'randru-jo says:

      5 stars
Nah, I disagree. This baked spaghetti is way better than some greasy takeout! Love it!

  19. 3 stars
The ingredients are simple, but I felt like it needed more seasoning—like salt and black pepper. Also, I added parmesan because why not.

  20. User avatar barrett.towne21 says:

    2 stars
Sounds good but who has time for all that? Gonna stick to my takeout. 😂

  21. User avatar Dwana Koch says:

    5 stars
This is the best pasta I’ve ever made! I can’t believe how easy it was too!

  22. 3 stars
Baked spaghetti? Sounds odd to me, but I suppose it works. I will try it differently next time.

  23. User avatar smartestRedditor says:

    3 stars
I’m not really a fan of baked pasta, but my wife loved it. Go figure!

  24. User avatar Eccentrica Gallumbits says:

    5 stars
The mozzarella is definitely the star. I mixed a little into the sauce before baking and it stayed extra melty.

    1. User avatar tobias.nitzsche53 says:

      5 stars
Yes! Mozzarella really does make it extra melty—love that you mixed some into the sauce. I usually only top it, so I’m stealing your idea 👌

  25. User avatar Super Saiyan 3 Goku says:

    2 stars
Too much cheese! Who puts that much mozzarella? I might reduce it next time.

    1. 4 stars
I love cheese, but maybe you have a point! I’ll try less next time too.

    2. 5 stars
Cheese is life! More mozzarella, the better! 😋

  26. 3 stars
Spaghetti baked? That sounds weird, but I guess I’m willing to try it.

    1. User avatar Johnie Kemmer says:

      5 stars
Baked spaghetti is actually really good! The cheesiness makes it so comforting. You should totally give it a shot!

  27. User avatar conrad.schumm1 says:

    5 stars
Simple and delicious! My kids loved it, even the picky eater! 👍

  28. 4 stars
I don’t like tomato sauce much, so I changed it for white sauce. Still turned out great, but is it still baked spaghetti? lol.

    1. User avatar Al O'Moaney says:

      4 stars
That’s interesting! White sauce sounds good too! It’s creative! 😊

  29. User avatar seema.hettinger85 says:

    1 star
Baked? All pasta should be boiled not baked. Disappointing.

  30. 2 stars
Took too long to prepare. Not to mention my cheese burned a bit. Next time I’ll keep an eye on it.

  31. User avatar merrill.armstrong13 says:

    5 stars
    Yummy 😋

  32. User avatar mercedes.heaney48 says:

    5 stars
Absolutely delicious! I added some spinach for health, and it was the best idea ever.

  33. User avatar ahmad.dubuque says:

    2 stars
This was too rich for my taste. I prefer spaghetti without all the meat. Not my favorite, so 2 stars.

    1. User avatar nelia.bartell15 says:

      3 stars
Rich? Nah, it’s delicious! Maybe you added too much meat? I think it all balances out with the sauce and cheese.

    2. User avatar nila.price95 says:

      4 stars
I totally get where you’re coming from. Sometimes too much meat can be overwhelming. You should try a veggie version, it might suit your taste better!

  34. User avatar eufemia.kshlerin1994 says:

    5 stars
This is the best spaghetti recipe ever! I added some extra cheese because I love it! 😍

  35. 5 stars
This is one of those ‘no fancy stuff’ meals that actually delivers. Also the prep is quick. My kids went back for seconds. Me and the cheese approves.

    1. User avatar morton.carroll1978 says:

      5 stars
Totally agree—no fancy steps, but it comes out so satisfying. My kids are the same way with seconds 😄

  36. User avatar Mrs. Nick Jerde says:

    5 stars
Wow, this looks amazing! Can’t wait to try it tonight! 😍

  37. User avatar Falmer Shadowmaster says:

    3 stars
I was a bit skeptical about the cooking times. My cheese burnt at 25 minutes! Next time, I’ll keep an eye on it. Gave it a 3.

    1. User avatar foster.hauck97 says:

      4 stars
I completely understand! I always keep an eye on my pasta dishes too. Maybe try covering it with foil for the first part of baking? That way the cheese won’t burn so quickly. 😊

    2. User avatar ming.halvorson29 says:

      3 stars
25 minutes? That’s too long for cheese! I think ovens can differ. My pasta gets bubbly in 15! 😅

  38. User avatar sammie.gusikowski says:

    3 stars
Not bad, but 10 minutes of simmering felt short. I cooked it longer and the sauce got thicker and richer. If you keep it at 10, it might taste a bit flat.

  39. User avatar gail.schowalter1953 says:

    4 stars
I didn’t have any mozzarella, so I used cheddar instead. Still turned out fine!

  40. User avatar Mudcrab says:

    3 stars
I thought it would be more flavorful. It was kinda bland honestly.

  41. User avatar vashti.gottlieb says:

    2 stars
Baked spaghetti? Can’t you just boil it like normal? Feels like extra work.

  42. User avatar Slaughterfish says:

    3 stars
I dunno about the oregano. I feel like it could be too strong. Anyone else think so?

  43. 4 stars
180°C seems a little low? I baked mine and it took longer than 25 minutes to get golden. Still tasted good though, just plan for extra time.

  44. User avatar terminatorXYZ says:

    4 stars
My kids loved it! But I think I overcooked the pasta a little. Next time will do better!

  45. User avatar grant.kuvalis11 says:

This baked spaghetti is a hit at family dinners! Everyone loved it.

  46. User avatar carlita.simonis19 says:

    5 stars
    Baked spaghetti = love ❤️

  47. User avatar Roland Batz Sr. says:

    2 stars
Why bake it at all? Cooking spaghetti then mixing with sauce should be enough. I tried baking and honestly it didn’t add much besides more dishes.

  48. User avatar Prostetnic Vogon Kwaltz says:

    5 stars
    SOO GOOD!!!

    1. User avatar patria.haag80 says:

      5 stars
Right?? That bubbly mozzarella top is everything 😍 I love how the sauce simmers and the bake kinda melds it together. Definitely making this again!

  49. User avatar Twisted Fate says:

    5 stars
Yummy?? More like YUM!! Will make again for sure!!

  50. User avatar dung.kessler28 says:

    2 stars
Wasn’t that impressed. It was kinda bland. Needs more spice or something.

  51. User avatar lon.hirthe26 says:

    5 stars
Absolutely delicious! I added some red pepper flakes for a kick. Will make again!

  52. 3 stars
Honestly it’s fine, but kind of basic. I added mushrooms and a pinch of chili flakes and it tasted way more exciting.

  53. 4 stars
Easy to make! I will definitely add this to my dinner rotation. Thanks!

    1. 3 stars
Looks good but isn’t it unhealthy? All that cheese and meat. I prefer my pasta without those!

    2. User avatar tandy.ruecker53 says:

      5 stars
So glad to hear it’s easy! I love baked spaghetti, too. It’s a family favorite!

  54. 5 stars
Yum! I’m gonna make this every week! So easy!

  55. User avatar marlyn.rath85 says:

    1 star
Is it supposed to be this sloppy? Mine came out all mushy. Not impressed.

  56. User avatar amado.thiel1983 says:

    2 stars
180°C seems too hot for 20-25 min? My cheese browned super fast and the inside was only kinda heated through. Maybe my oven runs hot, but I’d lower it to 170°C or cover with foil earlier.

  57. User avatar fidel.koss97 says:

    5 stars
I was skeptical about baking spaghetti instead of stovetop, but wow. The texture was great and it didn’t dry out.

    1. User avatar willy.schumm75 says:

      5 stars
I had the same skepticism, but I tried it last week—so good. The bake really helps everything cling together, and yeah the noodles stay juicy. Next time I might add a little extra sauce so it’s even wetter.

    2. User avatar tissues_with_issues says:

      3 stars
Wait… baking spaghetti? I don’t know about that 😅 I feel like it would be dry. Also 200 grams spaghetti seems kinda low? Like for my family that’s like two bites. Still, glad it worked for you.

  58. User avatar tim.durgan79 says:

    5 stars
Made this tonight and it was genuinely cozy. The mozzarella gets that perfect bubbly top, and the sauce tastes way better than my usual jarred one. 10 minutes simmer is the sweet spot—don’t rush it!

  59. User avatar geoWizard says:

    1 star
Spaghetti isn’t supposed to be baked!! what a weird idea lol.

  60. User avatar bryon.kling says:

    4 stars
The bake time is on point—cheese got that nice golden top. Only thing: next time I’ll salt the beef/onion more.

    1. User avatar sydney.hamill55 says:

      4 stars
Hmm I did it as written and it was good, but I think my bake time was a little shorter? Maybe my oven runs hot. Also I used extra cheese and it got too brown fast 😅. Next time I’ll try salting more like you said.

    2. User avatar Ralph Parisian says:

      5 stars
Totally agree on the bake time—mine usually comes out just like that golden top too. I also started salting the beef/onion a bit more and it really rounds out the flavor.
