Baked Spaghetti

November 6, 2024

Baked Spaghetti is the perfect combination of classic comfort food and cheesy, oven-baked goodness. This dish takes everything you love about traditional spaghetti – savory meat sauce, tender pasta, and melted cheese – and bakes it into a hearty, satisfying casserole that is perfect for feeding a crowd or enjoying as leftovers.

The magic of Baked Spaghetti starts with the sauce. Ground beef or Italian sausage is cooked with onions, garlic, and Italian herbs, then simmered with crushed tomatoes or marinara until rich and flavorful. The cooked spaghetti is tossed with the sauce, layered in a baking dish, and covered with plenty of shredded mozzarella, parmesan, and sometimes ricotta or cream cheese for extra creaminess.

Once baked, the top becomes golden and bubbly, while the inside stays saucy and cheesy with every bite. It is like lasagna but even easier to prepare. You get the same comforting flavors without the extra steps of layering pasta sheets.

This dish is also wonderfully flexible. You can swap the meat for ground turkey, chicken, or a plant-based alternative, or load it up with vegetables like bell peppers, mushrooms, and spinach. Some versions even add a layer of cheese in the middle for extra indulgence.

Baked Spaghetti is easy to prepare ahead of time. Simply assemble the dish, cover it, and refrigerate until you are ready to bake. It is perfect for meal prepping, potlucks, or a cozy family dinner. Serve it with garlic bread and a simple green salad to complete the meal.

Every bite delivers cheesy, saucy, comforting goodness that feels like a warm hug. It is a family favorite for a reason, simple ingredients come together to make something truly delicious and satisfying. Baked Spaghetti is one of those dishes you will return to again and again.

Easy recipe but I forget to preheat oven. Ended up cooking spaghetti long and was soggy. Oops! Warning to others!

Sounds like a classic mistake! I’ve done that too and it’s so frustrating. But the good thing is, soggy or not, it probably still tasted alright! Just don’t forget next time.

    2. 3 stars
LOL, oops indeed! I always forget stuff too. Mine was a burnt mess once. But a good tip: set a timer for the oven! It helps.

I think adding parmesan cheese on top would be even better! Will try next time. This is definitely a keeper!

    1. 2 stars
Hmm, I don’t know. Parmesan might be too salty. But whatever, do what you want! 😂

    2. 5 stars
Parmesan sounds great! I usually add more spices too for some extra kick. Can’t wait to try this recipe again!

Pretty good, but I think it could use more seasoning. I like my food spicy. 😅

I don’t know… seems a bit too easy. Is it really that good? What if it turns out bland?

  7. User avatar inga.durgan says:

Baked spaghetti?! Never heard of that. Sounds weird, but I’ll try it. What’s the worst that could happen?

  8. User avatar robin.nikolaus says:

I didn’t have mozzarella, so I used cheddar. It still tasted good!

    1. User avatar sherise.jaskolski says:

      3 stars
Hmm, cheddar on spaghetti? That’s a bit odd, don’t you think? Mozzarella really makes it Italian!

    2. User avatar jeff.collier1973 says:

      5 stars
That’s awesome! Cheddar can be just as good as mozzarella sometimes. I love experimenting with cheese!

Why would you put beef in spaghetti? That’s not how my grandma did it. 1 star.

I don’t like tomato sauce much, so I changed it for white sauce. Still turned out great, but is it still baked spaghetti? lol.

    1. User avatar Al O'Moaney says:

That’s interesting! White sauce sounds good too! It’s creative! 😊

Baked? All pasta should be boiled not baked. Disappointing.

  17. 2 stars
Took too long to prepare. Not to mention my cheese burned a bit. Next time I’ll keep an eye on it.

  18. User avatar merrill.armstrong13 says:

    Yummy 😋

  19. User avatar ahmad.dubuque says:

This was too rich for my taste. I prefer spaghetti without all the meat. Not my favorite, so 2 stars.

    1. User avatar nelia.bartell15 says:

      3 stars
Rich? Nah, it’s delicious! Maybe you added too much meat? I think it all balances out with the sauce and cheese.

    2. User avatar nila.price95 says:

      4 stars
I totally get where you’re coming from. Sometimes too much meat can be overwhelming. You should try a veggie version, it might suit your taste better!

  22. User avatar Falmer Shadowmaster says:

I was a bit skeptical about the cooking times. My cheese burnt at 25 minutes! Next time, I’ll keep an eye on it. Gave it a 3.

    1. User avatar foster.hauck97 says:

      4 stars
I completely understand! I always keep an eye on my pasta dishes too. Maybe try covering it with foil for the first part of baking? That way the cheese won’t burn so quickly. 😊

    2. User avatar ming.halvorson29 says:

      3 stars
25 minutes? That’s too long for cheese! I think ovens can differ. My pasta gets bubbly in 15! 😅

  23. User avatar gail.schowalter1953 says:

    4 stars
I didn’t have any mozzarella, so I used cheddar instead. Still turned out fine!

  24. User avatar Mudcrab says:

    3 stars
I thought it would be more flavorful. It was kinda bland honestly.

Baked spaghetti? Can’t you just boil it like normal? Feels like extra work.

  26. User avatar Slaughterfish says:

    3 stars
I dunno about the oregano. I feel like it could be too strong. Anyone else think so?

  27. User avatar terminatorXYZ says:

    4 stars
My kids loved it! But I think I overcooked the pasta a little. Next time will do better!

  28. User avatar grant.kuvalis11 says:

    5 stars
This baked spaghetti is a hit at family dinners! Everyone loved it.

  29. User avatar dung.kessler28 says:

    2 stars
Wasn’t that impressed. It was kinda bland. Needs more spice or something.

  30. User avatar lon.hirthe26 says:

    5 stars
Absolutely delicious! I added some red pepper flakes for a kick. Will make again!

  31. 4 stars
Easy to make! I will definitely add this to my dinner rotation. Thanks!

    1. 3 stars
Looks good but isn’t it unhealthy? All that cheese and meat. I prefer my pasta without those!

    2. User avatar tandy.ruecker53 says:

      5 stars
So glad to hear it’s easy! I love baked spaghetti, too. It’s a family favorite!

Baked spaghetti? My grandma makes it different. She puts olives! 🍝 What’s up with that?

    1. 4 stars
Olives in baked spaghetti? That sounds weird but maybe tasty? Everyone has their own way of cooking! 😄

  35. User avatar Frodo Baggins says:

I made it with chicken instead of beef cause I’m on a diet. It turned out pretty good! 🐔
