Baked beans with bacon is a hearty, savory dish that combines the natural sweetness of slow-cooked beans with the rich, smoky flavor of bacon. This classic comfort food has been a staple in many homes for generations, often served as a side dish for barbecues, hearty breakfasts, or cozy family dinners. The combination of tender beans, caramelized onions, and crispy bacon creates a dish that’s both filling and satisfying, with layers of deep, savory flavor.
The base of baked beans with bacon starts with white beans, typically navy beans or Great Northern beans, which are known for their soft, creamy texture. The beans are slow-cooked in a flavorful mixture of tomato sauce, molasses, brown sugar, and mustard, creating a balance of sweetness and tang. The addition of crispy bacon brings a smoky, savory element that elevates the dish, adding depth and richness to every bite.
The bacon is usually cooked first, rendering its fat and creating a crisp texture that contrasts beautifully with the soft beans. Once the bacon is cooked, it’s crumbled and added to the sauce, allowing the flavors to meld together as the beans simmer slowly. The dish is often baked in the oven, allowing the flavors to develop even further while the top becomes golden and slightly caramelized.
Baked beans with bacon can be served as a side dish to complement grilled meats, roasted chicken, or even burgers. They also make a fantastic accompaniment to a full breakfast, alongside eggs and toast, or can be enjoyed on their own for a simple, satisfying meal. The dish is versatile, and many variations exist, such as adding brown onions, garlic, or a splash of vinegar to balance the sweetness.
This dish isn’t just delicious — it’s also packed with protein and fiber from the beans, making it both comforting and nourishing. Whether served at a family gathering or enjoyed as a cozy meal at home, baked beans with bacon are a timeless classic that’s sure to please.

Yum! Perfect for our BBQ. I did add some jalapeños for a kick and it was fire!
These beans are AMAZING! The bacon adds such a great flavor. My family loved it!
I totally agree! Adding bacon is the best choice for flavor! Can’t wait to make this for my family too!
Beans with bacon? Sounds gross, honestly. Do people really like that combination?
Bacon beans! Who doesn’t love that? Easy recipe, just what I needed!
Too sweet for my taste. I think I would add less sugar next time.
I dunno about the brown sugar, seems kinda weird for beans. Just made it without and it was fine.
I think the brown sugar adds a nice sweetness to balance the savory beans and bacon. But hey, if you liked it without, that’s cool too!
Baked beans are good but this one is just average. Too much sweet for my taste.
I think it needs more mustard. The onions could be cooked more too, they were still crunchy for my taste.
I made this last night but forgot the Worcestershire sauce. Still okay I guess.
Easy to follow, great for BBQs! I didn’t have Worcestershire sauce so used soy sauce instead, still tasted good!
I dunno, baked beans are not my thing. Also, do you really need that much bacon?
Bacon makes everything better! But I get what you mean, baked beans aren’t for everyone.
Honestly, I think it needs more bacon! Haha, but yeah, it’s definitely not the dish for everyone.
Delish! 😋 Can’t get enough! ❤️
Just made this for a potluck, everyone raved about it! Will make again for sure!
Took forever to cook, but it was worth the wait! My husband gobbled it up. 💖
Bacon and beans? Sounds weird, but I tried it. Kinda good, I guess. Can’t believe I liked it!
I liked it alright but felt like something was missing. Maybe some garlic? 🤷♂️
Checked all ingredients and I don’t have 27 oz cans anywhere? What is that?
Those sizes can be confusing! Just use what you have, like any canned beans will work. Just adjust other ingredients accordingly!
I thought baked beans should be more “bean-y” and less saucy. Mine turned out kind of sticky-sweet. Still ate it, but I’m skeptical about repeating.
I followed the steps but mine turned out too sweet. More balance would be good.
I dunno, it seems kinda basic. I expected more from a recipe with bacon. Just beans and bacon, right?
But like, aren’t baked beans meant to be simple? With bacon, it’s already getting fancy! Give it a try, might surprise you.
I disagree! Sometimes simple is better. The bacon adds a lot of flavor, especially when baked. Can’t wait to try it!
Baked beans are for summer cookouts not winter dinners!! But it was alright.
I don’t know about the mustard in here… didn’t taste right. Plus, 1 hour is too long for beans!
Too many ingredients for me, you could just heat up a can of beans.
Yum!!! I use maple syrup instead of brown sugar sometimes, it adds a nice touch.
This recipe is so delicious! The bacon adds the perfect flavor. My family loves it!
Totally agree! Bacon makes everything better! My kids can’t get enough of it either.
I dunno, isn’t this just canned beans dressed up? Where’s the real cooking?
This was kinda bland until I added salt at the end. Also my bacon shrunk a ton so I barely had any left for the top.
This is a lot of sugar. Why not just use maple syrup instead? 🤔
Made this for the potluck, and it was a hit! Everyone kept asking for the recipe. Thanks!
Really? Baked beans at a potluck? Seems kinda basic… I dunno if I’d wanna try that. Are they good or just popular?
That sounds delicious! I’m so glad everyone loved it. Definitely going to try making these beans for my next gathering!
I just mixed everything in a pot on the stove. Is that okay?
Uh oh! Mixing it on the stove is not how the recipe says to do it. You gotta bake it to get that good flavor! 🤔
I think mixing it in a pot is okay, but you’ll miss out on the baked aspect! Give it a try though, might be good anyway!
We liked it, but my husband says it taste like something his mom used to make. Nostalgia!
I don’t know, seems like too much sugar for beans. Gonna pass.
I get what you mean! That much sugar does sound weird for beans, but it actually balances the flavors. You might be missing out! 😅
So good! Next time, I’m adding some jalapenos for a kick. 🌶️
I was a bit skeptical about putting ketchup in beans, but wow, it actually worked out! Surprising!
I never thought of adding ketchup either! Sounds like I gotta try this now. Thanks for sharing your surprise!
OMG, I added some jalapeños to spice it up! So good! 🔥
Beans are full of protein, right? Love this recipe! Will share with my friends!
I’m skeptical of the ketchup… seems weird. Can’t imagine this tasting good.
Too much bacon if you ask me. Healthier options would be better.
It was good, but a bit too sweet for my taste. Less brown sugar next time perhaps.
These baked beans are the bomb! My family loved them! Will def make again.
These beans are sooo good! My whole fam loved it!
Yum! Sounds delicious! Can’t wait to try it for my family too!
Tried this but used turkey bacon instead. Not the same, yuck!
I dunno, I think turkey bacon can be okay sometimes. Maybe you just needed more seasoning?
Turkey bacon? No wonder it didn’t taste right! You gotta stick with the real stuff!
This recipe is so simple. Great for a potluck. Everyone ate it up! 😀
Yum! My kids even liked it! Who knew beans could be this good!
This looks really good! I’m gonna try it but I might use turkey bacon for less fat.
Mmm… bacon! Love it, love it, love it!!
Just okay. I expected more flavor. Maybe I should’ve added more spices?
I totally get that! Adding more spices could really amp up the flavor. Maybe some garlic powder or chili powder next time?
Idk, baked beans don’t really need more spices, maybe just your taste is different? It’s pretty good as is!
I made this for my BBQ and everyone went crazy over it! Definitely a keeper.
This recipe is the best! My family loved it. Will make again for sure!
Served these at a BBQ, and they were gone in minutes! Will make again for sure! 🎉
Sounds delicious! I’ve got to try this recipe at my next BBQ. Thanks for sharing! 😋
Don’t use canned beans, they taste like cardboard! You gotta make your beans from scratch.
I totally get what you’re saying about canned beans! But I think these baked beans can still taste great with the right seasonings. Just my opinion!
Baked beans and bacon?? Gotta be the best combo ever! So satisfied.
Totally! The smokiness from the bacon with the sweetness of the beans is just perfect. I’m drooling just thinking about it! 😋
Baked beans? With bacon? Isn’t that a bit too heavy? I prefer my beans plain. But hey, if you like it, more power to you.
This was delicious! The bacon adds a great flavor!!
This was sooo good! I love all the flavors combined, especially with the bacon. Will make again!
I didn’t have all the ingredients, so I skipped the mustard and added some hot sauce instead. It was okay, but I think it needs the mustard.
My kids loved this! Super easy to make, but I added a bit of chili powder for a kick!
Bacon and beans, yes pls!! Perfect combo for a BBQ. Thanks!
Bacon plus beans? YUM! But can’t we all agree that beans are kinda farty? 😂
Haha, so true! Beans can be a bit gassy, but totally worth it with bacon! 🥓🚀
Um…what is Worcestershire sauce? Can I use something else? I am confused.
Beans is good, but I think this recipe is a little sweet for my taste. But overall, it was ok.
I followed it pretty much exactly, but I used smoked bacon and added a tiny splash of apple cider vinegar at the end. Turned out sweet-salty and super comforting. Would make again.
Ooh smoked bacon sounds like such a good upgrade. The apple cider vinegar splash at the end is genius for cutting through the sweetness—nice save! 😄
Interesting! I’m a little wary of the vinegar—feels like it might mess with the ketchup/sugar balance. But if it’s sweet-salty and thick, I guess it works. Might try it… maybe just a drop.
Bacon makes everything better! Can’t go wrong with this. 🥓
This is a real easy recipe, but I think real baked beans is suppose to use molasses instead of sugar! Just saying.
Molasses is good, but brown sugar gives that nice rich flavor! I think it’s fine with sugar. 🤷♀️
These baked beans are absolutely delicious! The bacon adds such a nice flavor. My family loved it!
Wayyy too much bacon! I mean, who needs this much fat? I’m more about health, ya know?
But it’s not healthy at all! You could use turkey bacon or something, right? This just seems like a heart attack waiting to happen.
I think the bacon is what makes it tasty! More bacon, more flavor! 🤤
Bacon and beans? Sounds gross. Why even bother with the bacon? It’s not necessary!
Tasted fantastic! My kids can’t stop eating it. Only thing I did differently was use turkey bacon to make it healthier.
5 stars easy. I doubled the bacon and it was probly the best beans I ever made. Also, the oven smell is amazing.
Yum!
Absolutely delicious! My family devoured it. Just the right amount of sweetness.
This recipe is so good! I added extra bacon and it was the hit of the BBQ. Yum!
Really? Who puts baked beans in the oven? Sounds weird to me. That’s not how we do things where I’m from.
Why y’all makin beans fancy? Just eat them from the can! 🙄
Beans are beans… I don’t really get the hype. The ingredient list is straightforward, but it feels kind of boring compared to chili. My husband liked it more than me.
Totally fair—baked beans can feel a little “same-same” vs chili. But the bacon fat + Worcestershire really does make it way deeper than plain beans.
You really think ketchup belongs here? I’m not convinced. Seems odd… 😕
Not bad, but I think it needed more flavor…maybe garlic? idk.
Why do you have to bake them? Can’t you just heat them on the stove? Seems unnecessary. ⭐⭐
Baking gives it a nice texture and flavor, that’s why it’s baked! Trying it on the stove might just not be the same. 💁♂️
Okay but why Worcestershire? And baking beans for an hour? I feel like it could just be simmered on the stove. Also my skillet was too small so everything splashed—ugh. Still, I guess it’s alright.
Good question! Worcestershire adds that tangy, slightly savory depth—almost like a “secret ingredient” vibe. And the hour in the oven helps it thicken and get the flavors to really meld together. But yeah, if you just want it faster, simmering on the stove can work too.
Hmm idk… I’d skip Worcestershire unless you really like that bold taste. And an hour baking seems way too long—beans should just warm up, right? Also I hate when the skillet splashes… next time use a bigger pan or lower heat. Mine always comes out better when I simmer it, not bake.
Bacon?? Is that really necessary??? Beans are beans.
Bacon adds a nice flavor to the beans! It’s all about layering those tastes. Trust me, you’ll love it!
Made this last night—so cozy. The bacon crisp stays nice even after baking, and the sauce is perfectly sweet-tangy. My kids went back for seconds.
Isn’t this just the same as all baked beans? Seems a bit redundant.
I get where you’re coming from, but adding bacon and some spices makes it special! It’s all about that extra flavor. 😋
Lol, baked beans are baked beans, who cares? Just mix it all together and eat! 😂
This recipe is a hit at family gatherings! The bacon adds such a nice flavor.
I don’t know, but this seems a bit too sweet for baked beans. Not for me.
Great recipe but I skipped the bacon because of health issues, still turned out tasty!
I didn’t have Worcestershire sauce, so I used soy sauce… it turned out okay. Keeping it real.
Baked beans r my fav! Gonna try this recipe for sure. Thx!
Perfect for my BBQ party! I’ll be making this again! Thanks!
I ain’t a fan of beans, but this dish actually changed my mind. Yum!
I followed the recipe but my beans ended up.. mushy? What did I do wrong???
I don’t like baked beans, but this one was pretty tasty. Bacon makes everything better!
Tasted ok, but it seemed too sweet for my taste. I prefer more savory.
Bacon and beans?? What a combo! This is the kind of dish that makes you feel happy inside. 😋
I know, right? Bacon makes everything better! 😄 Can’t wait to try this recipe.
Did you really put 54 oz of beans? That’s like a LOT! Are you sure that’s right?
54 oz seems excessive, but maybe they just really love beans??
Yes, it is a lot! But it makes a big batch for parties! 😊
I followed the recipe but my beans were still runny. Did I do something wrong?
I think you might need to drain some of the liquid from the beans before mixing. That helped me before!
Maybe you didn’t bake them long enough? The time is key for thickening. Don’t worry, it’s a common mistake!
These baked beans are the bomb! The bacon adds the perfect flavor. 5 stars!
Yum! Made this last week and it was delish! Started the oven before the bacon was done tho…oops 😅
Isn’t there a vegetarian alternative? I can’t eat pork. Seems unfair! 😡
I don’t usually like beans, but these were surprisingly tasty. Might make again!
Beans good. Make more! 👍
Too much sugar for my taste. Next time I’ll cut it down. 😕
5 stars. Like, I don’t even add anything. it’s perfect. I swear my neighbors stole some while I was cooling it.
Made this for dinner last night—so good. The bacon fat + Worcestershire combo is 🔥. Mine thickened perfectly after the full hour.
Mine didn’t thicken as much after an hour—maybe my oven runs cool? Still tasty though. Next time I’ll give it longer.
Yes!! That bacon fat + Worcestershire combo is the magic. I’ve made this twice and it never disappoints.
Pretty good but a little too sweet for my taste. Next time I’ll cut back on the brown sugar.
I totally understand! It can be really sweet sometimes. I like to add a bit more mustard to balance it out.
Pretty solid comfort food. I did add a pinch of smoked paprika and it took it up a notch. Would make again for sure.
Bacon loves beans!
Bacon not included 👍 Not a bean fan though, so not for me.
I totally get it, beans aren’t for everyone! But you could always substitute with something else, like corn or just skip them!
Pretty tasty, but mine was a little too sweet. I think 1/2 cup brown sugar packed is a lot—maybe I’ll cut it down to 1/3 cup next time.
Hmm maybe you just need more mustard? I used the full 1/2 cup and it came out perfect, so I dunno. Also I cooked the onion longer than translucent… maybe that changed it? lol
I totally get that—brown sugar can sneak up on you. I started at 1/3 cup packed and it hits way better for us. Your plan sounds spot on!
YUM!!! Perfect for my BBQ party, a crowd pleaser for sure! 🥳
This recipe is amazing! The bacon really takes it to the next level. My whole family loved it!
I don’t know about this… Baking beans? How is that different from just heating them up on the stove?
Baked beans are the best! I make them for all picnics. Yummy!
I don’t understand why people put bacon in beans…sounds odd to me. Beans are good on their own!
This is just bacon and beans! How can it be hard? Easy peasy!
Yum! 😋
I followed it exactly, but my onions never seemed to fully cook through after an hour. I’m not sure if my oven runs hot or if the bake time is off.
This recipe is a hit at my cookouts! Everyone loves the bacon flavor. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Bacon makes everything better! I added some jalapenos for a kick, turned out awesome! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I didn’t have Worcestershire sauce, so I used soy sauce instead, and it came out good! 🤷♂️
Baked beans are always hit or miss for me, but this version actually feels hearty and “real.” The Worcestershire sauce really levels it up.
I modified it and added some chili powder. Gave it a kick! So tasty! ❤️
Chili powder sounds like a great addition! I love a little heat in my baked beans. Gonna try it next time! 🔥
Really? Chili powder in baked beans? Seems a bit weird to me, but if you say it was good, who am I to judge? 🤔
My bacon didn’t get crispy enough because I was distracted lol, and then it wasn’t as good on top. Flavor still good, just texture off.
Can I use turkey bacon instead? Trying to be healthy but love this idea. 🤔
