Baileys Hot Chocolate & Churros

May 13, 2025

Warm up with this indulgent Baileys Hot Chocolate paired with crispy, cinnamon-sugar coated Churros. Perfect for cozy evenings or festive gatherings.

To make the Baileys hot chocolate, start by heating milk or a combination of milk and heavy cream in a saucepan. Add your favorite cocoa powder, sugar, and a pinch of salt. Once the mixture is smooth and warm, stir in a generous splash of Baileys Irish Cream to give the drink a rich, velvety texture and a subtle, creamy flavor. Top with whipped cream, chocolate shavings, or even a drizzle of caramel for extra decadence.

While the hot chocolate is brewing, prepare the churros. In a saucepan, combine water, butter, sugar, and salt, and bring to a boil. Stir in flour and cook until the mixture forms a dough. Transfer the dough to a piping bag fitted with a star tip and pipe long strips of dough into hot oil, frying them until golden brown and crispy. Once fried, roll the churros in a cinnamon-sugar mixture while they’re still warm.

Serve the Baileys hot chocolate in a large mug and place the warm churros alongside it for dipping. The combination of the creamy, boozy hot chocolate and the crispy, cinnamon-sugar churros creates the perfect balance of comfort and indulgence.

Baileys Hot Chocolate & Churros are an irresistible duo that’s ideal for cozying up on a cold day. Whether you’re hosting a gathering, enjoying a quiet evening at home, or treating yourself to something special, this pairing is sure to delight. Rich, indulgent, and oh-so-satisfying, it’s a sweet treat that’s bound to become a favorite.

What are churros?

Churros are a popular fried dough pastry, typically sprinkled with sugar and often served with chocolate dipping sauce. They originated in Spain and Portugal but are now loved around the world.

What are churros made of?

Traditional churros are made from a simple dough of flour, water, salt, and sometimes butter or eggs. The dough is piped into hot oil using a star-shaped nozzle and fried until golden and crispy.

Can I make churros without a piping bag?

Yes, although a piping bag with a star tip gives churros their classic shape, you can also spoon or cut the dough into strips. The shape may differ, but the taste will still be delicious.

Can I bake churros instead of frying them?

Yes, you can bake churros for a healthier version. While they won’t be quite as crispy as fried ones, brushing them with melted butter before baking helps achieve a similar texture.

What is Baileys?

Baileys is a popular Irish cream liqueur made from a blend of Irish whiskey, cream, and cocoa. It’s known for its rich, smooth, and slightly chocolatey flavor.

Can I cook or bake with Baileys?

Absolutely! Baileys adds a delicious creamy, boozy touch to desserts like brownies, cheesecakes, frostings, truffles, and even French toast. It also works great in coffee-based drinks and milkshake-based.

What are some drinks I can make with Baileys?

Popular Baileys drinks include:
Baileys White Russian
Baileys Coffee
Baileys Hot Chocolate
Baileys Martini
Mudslide Cocktail

Churros are p. good! But I think ya need more cookin’ time. Mine were a little doughy inside. I’ll try again!

Great idea overall, but churros cooking was frustrating! Had to give up halfway through.

  3. 2 stars
I tried making the churros but they turned out all soggy… what did I do wrong? 🙁

    1. User avatar kris.dickinson1955 says:

      4 stars
Sounds like you might not have fried them long enough! They need to be crispy on the outside, but if they get too soggy, it’s either the dough was too wet or the oil wasn’t hot enough. Try again!

  4. User avatar basil.mills0 says:

    2 stars
This recipe talks about whole milk. Any milk is milk. What’s the difference? Ya could use soy or something!

  5. User avatar ramon.dooley says:

    4 stars
Churro dough is hard to pipe! My kitchen looked like a donut war zone lol. But so worth it!

  6. User avatar olen.morar63 says:

Not a fan of Baileys, so I used rum instead. It’s not the same, but at least it was good. Still not great.

    1. User avatar Falmer Gloomlurker says:

      2 stars
I don’t know why you wouldn’t just follow the recipe. Seems like you missed out on the good stuff.

    2. User avatar bianca.yost83 says:

      4 stars
Rum sounds interesting, but isn’t it kind of different? Baileys adds that creamy flavor for sure. Glad you liked it a bit!

  7. User avatar ilona.oreilly34 says:

Delicious but way too sweet for my taste. I think my dentist would scream if he saw me eat this!

    1. 4 stars
I totally get what you mean! It is super sweet, maybe less Baileys next time? But still, yummy! 🤤

  8. 5 stars
OMG this was AMAZING! The Baileys hot chocolate is now my go-to drink for cozy nights. Thank you!

  9. User avatar Takisha Schmeler says:

Living my churro dreams! Also, why does it say ‘can substitute’ if almond is better? Lol

  10. User avatar jarrett.hill20 says:

Made this for my friends last night, they loved it! Perfect for winter. ☕🍫

  11. User avatar royce.johns78 says:

Real nice, but churros are way too sugary for me. 🥴

    1. User avatar ShanksOnePiece says:

      2 stars
Too sugary? I think that’s the point of churros! 😅 But tastes vary, I guess.

    2. 4 stars
I get what you mean! They can be super sweet. Maybe try a darker chocolate sauce with them or eat them with some coffee to balance it out! ☕️

  12. User avatar Dion Bradtke says:

Tried this recipe but my churros fell apart. What did I do wrong? 😩

    1. User avatar un.watsica50 says:

      4 stars
I think you might have added too much water or not let the dough sit long enough. Churro dough needs to be thick to hold its shape! 🤔

      3 stars
My mom’s churros also fall apart! Maybe try using less flour or tweak ur cooking time? 😅

Can I skip the churros and just drink the hot chocolate? Asking for a friend.

  17. User avatar matilda.zemlak39 says:

Where do you even find Baileys? I just used normal chocolate and it still worked ok, but I think it missed somethin’. Maybe that’s why.

    1. User avatar kimber.satterfield says:

      4 stars
You can find Baileys in most liquor stores or supermarkets. It’s yummy, but I guess normal chocolate works too if you can’t find it.

Gotta say, this recipe is a bit complicated for churros. Just use a mix next time! 🤔

Baking churros?? Isn’t that like baking a pizza? I wouldn’t try that if I were you. Frying is where it’s at!

      4 stars
I found them to be perfect! The greasiness just adds to the flavor. Maybe you didn’t drain them well enough?

  27. 4 stars
Churros look so good! Can these be made without the alcohol? Not a drinker!

    1. 5 stars
Yes, you can definitely make churros without the Baileys! Just use regular milk instead. They’ll still be delicious!

  28. User avatar elton.pacocha36 says:

    2. User avatar Mrs. Noe Weissnat says:

I followed this recipe step-by-step, but my churros fell apart in the oil! What did I do wrong? Help!

    1. 4 stars
Sounds like your dough might have been too wet. Make sure to let the mixture cool a bit before piping, and also try to not overcrowd the oil when frying. Good luck! 😊
