Wedge Salad with Steak

May 5, 2025

Wedge Salad with Steak is a classic, hearty dish that brings together fresh, crisp iceberg lettuce, tender steak, and a creamy dressing for a meal that’s both light and filling. With the combination of cool vegetables and savory steak, it’s the perfect balance of freshness and richness.

To prepare the salad, start by cutting a head of iceberg lettuce into wedges, leaving the core intact so the wedges stay together. The iceberg lettuce gives the salad a crisp texture that pairs perfectly with the rich flavors of the steak. Arrange the lettuce wedges on a large platter or individual plates.

For the steak, choose a cut like ribeye, sirloin, or flank steak—something that’s tender and full of flavor. Season the steak generously with salt, pepper, and your choice of spices or marinade, and then sear it in a hot skillet or on a grill until it reaches your preferred level of doneness. Let the steak rest for a few minutes before slicing it thinly against the grain, ensuring each bite is juicy and tender.

Next, prepare a creamy dressing to complement the salad. A classic blue cheese or ranch dressing works wonderfully with a wedge salad, but you can also make a tangy dressing with sour cream, mayonnaise, lemon juice, and a touch of Dijon mustard. Drizzle the dressing generously over the lettuce wedges, and top with the sliced steak.

For added flavor, sprinkle crumbled bacon, cherry tomatoes, red onions, and fresh herbs like chives or parsley over the salad. The crispy bacon adds a smoky crunch that contrasts beautifully with the creamy dressing and tender steak.

This Wedge Salad with Steak is a satisfying and flavorful meal that’s perfect for a light dinner or as a hearty side dish. The fresh, crunchy lettuce provides a refreshing base, while the steak and creamy dressing make it a filling, delicious option.

Tastes great! But why do u put raw tomatos on a steak salad?? I thought it was weird at first but I loved it.

I’ve never cooked steak before and it was hard to get it right. Mine ended up chewy.

    1. User avatar kendrick.medhurst25 says:

      4 stars
Steak can be tricky! Maybe try a different cut next time, like a ribeye. It’s usually more tender. Don’t give up!

  16. User avatar salvatore.mann14 says:

    5 stars
Seriously, who puts steak on a salad? Sounds weird, but tried it and wow, I’m converted! Tasty!

      2 stars
Steak on salad? That’s just strange! Salads are supposed to be light. 🤔

    2. 4 stars
I never would have thought to do that! Maybe I’ll give it a try if you’re loving it!

  17. 3 stars
I don’t know about using iceberg lettuce… it just seems so boring. Maybe I’ll try it with romaine instead?

  18. User avatar andreas.crona2016 says:

    4 stars
Wedge salad? Never heard of it. But I tried it, and it’s surprisingly good!

It’s too complicated for a salad! Just a bunch of stuff thrown together. Not for me.

    1. User avatar avery.quitzon75 says:

      4 stars
I get that, but it’s really just easy steps! The steak and bacon make it special. Give it a try!

    2. User avatar donnie.brakus67 says:

      2 stars
Nah, salad needs to be simple. Don’t want all this fancy stuff. Just lettuce and dressing please!

  21. 2 stars
Can I just get the bacon part? The rest sounds like a waste of food! 😂

  22. User avatar Michael83 says:

    3 stars
Lettuce takes too long to cut, I used pre-cut salad mix. Still okay, but kinda cheating?

    1. User avatar dorris.ohara38 says:

      5 stars
I think using pre-cut salad mix is just fine! Sometimes you gotta save time, we’re all busy. Taste is what matters! 😁

    2. User avatar shonta.mosciski says:

      4 stars
Cheating? Nah, it’s called being smart! I just get my stuff ready fast and relax.

  23. User avatar Eileen Dover says:

    2 stars
Honestly, I can’t rate this because I didn’t get the bacon part crispy enough. My bad! But I think it has potential.

    1. User avatar kamala.greenholt says:

      4 stars
Don’t worry! Crispy bacon can be tricky. Maybe try cooking it on lower heat next time? Good luck!

    2. User avatar Gerardo Keeling says:

      3 stars
Bacon is life! But you need to get it crispy, that’s the key! Otherwise, what’s the point? 😂

  24. 4 stars
I made it without bacon and it was still tasty! You can substitute it with something else maybe.

  25. User avatar margeret.aufderhar says:

    1 star
Why don’t you just cook chicken instead? Steak seems too fancy for a salad. 🤷‍♂️

    1. User avatar steve_maga says:

      4 stars
Steak adds a nice twist! Just chicken is boring, sometimes you gotta mix it up. 😄

  26. 2 stars
I don’t really get the hype. It’s just lettuce and steak. It was ok but nothing special.

    1. 5 stars
I totally disagree! The blue cheese and bacon really elevate the dish. It’s a classic for a reason!

    2. 2 stars
Sounds boring to me too. Just lettuce? I’m not impressed. Better options out there!

  27. User avatar vernia.pagac66 says:

    2 stars
My kids didn’t like it at all. They said lettuce is for rabbits! 😂

  28. User avatar lyndsay.mosciski1 says:

    4 stars
Wedge salads are the best! But I think it could use more bacon.

  29. User avatar ALTplusF4 says:

    3 stars
Recipe is good, but why is it called wedge salad? I thought it was from Italy… I dunno 🤷‍♀️.

  30. User avatar arden.greenfelder1991 says:

    3 stars
Wedge salad? Sounds like a fancy name for a salad. LOL. Tasted good but I might as well just use dressing from the bottle…

    1. User avatar britt.sauer says:

      4 stars
I get what you mean! Wedge salad does sound fancy, but it’s super simple to make and really refreshing! The homemade dressing can make it special rather than bottle stuff. 😊

  31. User avatar aubrey.wintheiser1979 says:

    4 stars
Yum! But be careful not to make it too salty. I overdid it a bit.

  32. User avatar Ms. Dillon Goyette says:

    5 stars
So easy to make! I had it for dinner and now I want it for breakfast too!

    1. User avatar Uh Shenlong says:

      5 stars
This sounds amazing! Who knew a salad could make such a great breakfast? I gotta try it!

    2. User avatar Fredrick Tremblay says:

      2 stars
I dunno, salad for breakfast sounds kinda weird to me. I like my eggs and bacon in the morning!

  33. User avatar Rosendo Bernhard says:

    4 stars
Step 3 says top everything and yeah that works, but I’d season the steak too. I did salt/pepper on the meat and it made a difference.

    1. 5 stars
Totally agree—seasoning the steak makes it way better. I always do salt/pepper on the meat first, otherwise it tastes a little flat against the blue cheese.

    2. User avatar Uh Shenlong says:

      3 stars
Wait, step 4 already says salt and pepper… do you mean like seasoning *before* cooking the steak too? I always kinda skip that part 😅

  34. User avatar shay.roberts2025 says:

    4 stars
Yummy! 🍴 I just threw everything together and it turned out great!

  35. User avatar Katah Chuki says:

    3 stars
Why does steak belong in a salad? Just eat the lettuce!!! Anyway, better than I thought, I guess.

  36. User avatar demarcus.kuhlman1950 says:

    5 stars
This is basically my dream meal combo—icy crunch, salty bacon, and blue cheese doing the heavy lifting. Steak on top makes it feel way fancier than it is.

  37. 5 stars
This salad is so fresh and filling! I loved the combination of flavors.

  38. 2 stars
Meh, the lettuce gets soggy pretty quick. I prefer my caesar salad. 2 stars.

  39. User avatar jena.larkin41 says:

    2 stars
Blue cheese dressing was a little strong for me. I’m sure some people love it but I found it overpowering.

  40. User avatar felix.jaskolski26 says:

    5 stars
This wedge salad is bomb! I loved it, especially the bacon with blue cheese. Super easy to make too.

    1. User avatar allen.casper says:

      5 stars
I agree! The bacon and blue cheese combo is a game changer. Perfect for summer BBQs!

  41. User avatar Denethor says:

    4 stars
Very good. But i used ranch dressing instead of blue cheese cause I’m allergic. Still tasted nice!

  42. User avatar drew.goodwin98 says:

    4 stars
Wedge salad? Thought it was just a boring salad. But wow, this was different! I added some avocado too.

  43. 4 stars
Yum! I added avocado and it took it to the next level. So fresh and hearty! Will make again.

    1. User avatar sol.lind2 says:

      2 stars
Seems like a lot of ingredients for a salad. Are you sure it’s gonna taste good together? I’d stick to the basics.

    2. User avatar Tricia McMillan says:

      5 stars
Avocado? That’s a cool twist! I never thought of that. Gonna try it for sure!

  44. User avatar grasshopper says:

I made this for my friends and they all loved it! Definitely a crowd-pleaser.

  45. User avatar gregory.dooley2 says:

    2 stars
Y’all will laugh, but I didn’t have blue cheese dressing so I used ranch. It tasted… kinda similar? Like, not the same, but still hit the craving. I guess that counts?

  46. User avatar liberal.hero says:

    3 stars
I think the 6 ounces steak is too little for 1 wedge. Like, I ate it and was still hungry—could be just me though.

  47. User avatar dick.kub says:

    2 stars
I don’t get why people love blue cheese so much. It’s kinda gross. This recipe isn’t for me.

  48. User avatar svetlana.howell37 says:

    3 stars
I wasn’t sure about the blue cheese. It’s a bit too strong for me, maybe try ranch instead?

  49. User avatar fredericka.conroy10 says:

    3 stars
I don’t get why people like blue cheese. It’s too strong for me. The salad was okay but I don’t think I’ll make it again.

    1. User avatar mercedes.balistreri0 says:

      4 stars
I understand your feelings about blue cheese! It’s definitely an acquired taste. Maybe try a milder dressing next time?

  50. User avatar lashell.smitham40 says:

    5 stars
This salad was amazing! The blue cheese dressing really added a nice kick. Will definitely make it again!

  51. User avatar smartestRedditor says:

This was way too salty for my taste. I think I put too much bacon. 😟

  52. 1 star
Wedge salad? Isn’t that just putting bacon on a salad? 🤔

    1. User avatar oPandariaNo says:

      2 stars
I mean, it does have other stuff, but isn’t a wedge just a fancy name for a salad? 🤷‍♀️

    2. User avatar meg.glover says:

      5 stars
Haha, not just bacon! It’s got steak and blue cheese too! It’s like a meat-lover’s dream in salad form! 🍖🥗

I think iceberg lettuce lacks taste. Might try with spinach next time.

  59. User avatar damion.swaniawski says:

Too much blue cheese! I don’t like it but my husband loved it. Weird combo, but I guess it works for some.

    1. User avatar royal.reinger1954 says:

I’ve never thought of blue cheese and steak together! Maybe I should give it a try. My hubs loves blue cheese though, so he might enjoy it.

I tried it but used ranch dressing instead of blue cheese. Still turned out tasty! 🥗

  61. User avatar alexander.lemke says:

Made it for dinner last night and it was gone fast. I used ribeye and the steak was tender with the cold lettuce.

    1. User avatar zachary.lang says:

      5 stars
That’s awesome—gone fast is the best sign 😄 Ribeye really sounds perfect with a wedge. Glad the lettuce stayed cold too!

  62. User avatar basementDweller says:

    4 stars
Steak and lettuce? Who woulda thought! Not what I expected, liked it tho. Bacon made it better!

    1. User avatar yuk.hartmann4 says:

      5 stars
Right? Who knew lettuce could be so good with steak? 🤤 But let me tell you, that bacon is the real MVP!

  63. User avatar Dong Gutkowski says:

    3 stars
I think the steak should be grilled, not cooked however you want! That’s where the flavor is.

  64. User avatar Shadowfax says:

    5 stars
This recipe was awesome! The steak and blue cheese worked really well together. My family loved it!

  65. 5 stars
This is a great “bar food but make it dinner” idea. The blue cheese + bacon combo is spot on, and the cherry tomatoes add a nice pop of freshness.

  66. 5 stars
This salad is sooo good! The combination of flavors is perfect. Will definitely make again!

  67. User avatar rob.glover1995 says:

    3 stars
I tried this but the blue cheese was too strong for me. Maybe ranch dressing would be better? Just my opinion.

  68. User avatar mathWizard says:

    5 stars
This is such a simple way to make salad feel like a meal. The blue cheese + bacon combo is elite.

  69. 3 stars
Very easy to make, but I think the dresssing needed more flavor. Maybe add garlic next time.

  70. User avatar gussie.cartwright says:

    5 stars
This salad was AMAZING! The flavors blend so well, and it’s super easy to make. Definitely a keeper!

    1. 5 stars
I totally agree! It’s such a simple yet delicious recipe. I’ve made it multiple times!

  71. User avatar garry.maggio says:

    4 stars
Solid and simple. I didn’t have cherry tomatoes so I used grape tomatoes and it still worked. Next time I might add a little extra pepper because it was kinda mellow.

    1. User avatar erasmo.nienow1998 says:

      4 stars
Interesting—grape tomatoes? I would’ve figured it’d be too watery. But I guess it’s fine as long as they’re halved and you season well. I usually go heavy on the pepper anyway 😂

    2. User avatar hilton.hills37 says:

      5 stars
Glad it worked with grape tomatoes! I love that swap—grapes are a little sweeter so they balance the blue cheese nicely. Extra pepper is a great idea too; this one definitely benefits from a bolder crack.

  72. User avatar anderson.walter60 says:

    4 stars
I’m skeptical: steak + iceberg + blue cheese sounds like a restaurant ad, not real life. But I made it anyway and it actually surprised me. Would recommend.

  73. User avatar Miss Sol Brakus says:

    5 stars
Tasted exactly like a classic steakhouse wedge. The blue cheese + bacon combo is unbeatable. I used a ribeye and followed the “thin strips” tip—great bite.

  74. 2 stars
Wait, are we cooking the bacon first? Because I totally ate it like jerky… (kidding, but not really).

    1. User avatar mariana.graham28 says:

      5 stars
Haha I get it 😄 Nope—no bacon-first step here: cook the bacon until crispy, crumble it, and then just sprinkle it on top when you assemble the wedge with the steak, dressing, and cheeses.

  75. User avatar Forrest Denesik says:

    1 star
Not a fan of blue cheese, it ruins the entire dish for me. Try something else!

  76. User avatar timothy.hegmann2019 says:

    4 stars
Simple and tasty! A perfect way to eat salad. I didn’t have blue cheese, used feta instead.

    1. 5 stars
Feta sounds like a good twist! I might try that next time. Love it!

  77. 5 stars
Crispy bacon is life! This salad is a winner! Keep the recipes coming!

    1. User avatar mario.ward14 says:

      2 stars
I don’t know, guys. Salad with bacon? Sounds too heavy. A real salad should be light, right?

    2. 5 stars
Totally agree! Bacon makes everything better! Can’t wait to try this salad.

  78. User avatar broderick.homenick50 says:

    1 star
Too much fuss for a salad! I just wanted a side dish, not a main meal on lettuce.

  79. User avatar Draugr Death Overlord says:

    4 stars
Steak on a salad? That’s a lil extra for me but my husband loved it. So maybe I’ll make it again for him lol.

  80. 4 stars
Blue cheese + tomatoes sounds weird to me, but I tried it. Turns out it works. Also my bacon was way crispier than expected, so bonus.

  81. User avatar elsa.balistreri1966 says:

    3 stars
Uh, why would you put bacon AND blue cheese? Too much for me. 3 stars, just ok.

  82. User avatar tad.aufderhar says:

    3 stars
I don’t like blue cheese, can I substitute it? I’m not really sure what to use instead.

  83. User avatar regan.bartoletti67 says:

  85. User avatar fernande.boehm30 says:

    3 stars
I think the lettuce needs more flavor, maybe some garlic or something? Just a thought, but still good, I guess.

  86. 4 stars
I love wedge salads but I always forget how much blue cheese I want. Next time I’ll probably add a little more dressing.

    1. User avatar arcelia.waters77 says:

      3 stars
Wait, next time you add “a little more dressing” like 1/4 cup extra? That’s how I mess it up lol. I think I’d rather add less blue cheese crumbles instead.

    2. User avatar oPandariaNo says:

      5 stars
Totally get that—blue cheese can go from “perfect” to “too much” really fast. I usually taste the dressing first, then add the crumbles gradually.

  87. User avatar lessie.mann2006 says:

    5 stars
    Wait… iceberg + steak + bacon? That’s basically my personality. 10/10. Delicious.

  88. User avatar rodney.brown says:

    5 stars
Pretty easy weeknight recipe. I followed it exactly and it came out great. Steak strips were tender and the bacon stayed crunchy.

  89. User avatar sulema.okuneva70 says:

    3 stars
Looks great but 6 ounces for a whole head of iceberg seems kinda light. I’d double the steak portions.

  90. User avatar jacinto.lowe72 says:

    3 stars
Okay but iceberg lettuce is kinda sad? 😅 I used romaine instead and it improved a lot. Otherwise the recipe is straightforward and tasty.

  91. User avatar analisa.dubuque1968 says:

3 stars. The instruction says “place one wedge” but doesn’t say for how many people. I’m guessing one serving? Confusing.

I made this with skirt steak and it was super good, but 1/4 cup dressing felt a bit light—next time I’ll use more. Still, the flavors came together fast.

Bleu cheese makes everything better! Can’t wait to serve this at my BBQ!

Absolutely! Bleu cheese is the best, I add it to everything I make! Enjoy your BBQ!

    2. 3 stars
I don’t know, bleu cheese can be a bit strong for some. Are you sure it’ll be a hit?

  94. 5 stars
Looks delicious. 10/10 would eat again! 🌟

Blue cheese dressing can be hit-or-miss, but here it’s balanced by the salty bacon and the sweet tomatoes. I served it with garlic bread and felt fancy.

I dunno. Wedge salad? But it’s just lettuce and steak. Seems kinda basic to me.

Wedge salad is super underrated! It’s all about the flavors, dude. 🥩🥬

Steak strips on lettuce is fine, but I don’t get how 6 ounces is enough for “one wedge.” Also blue cheese overwhelms everything if you’re not careful.

I think 6 oz sounds like way too little, sorry. Like one wedge = a whole meal, right? Also blue cheese can be overpowering, so I’d do half the dressing at first and taste. Then add more if you’re brave 😅

    2. User avatar jim.schoen13 says:

Totally fair point. For me, “one wedge” is usually a decent-sized iceberg wedge and 6 oz is more than enough steak for that serving—plus the blue cheese is balanced by the lettuce + tomatoes. If you like it meaty, yeah, bump it up to 8–10 oz.

Not gonna lie, blue cheese on steak sounds kinda intense… but it actually worked. The dressing was the main flavor and everything else just supported it.

Blue cheese on steak sounds wrong to me 😅 but my buddy would prob say “just try it” lol. Did it taste salty or more creamy? I might try with less dressing.

Honestly I was skeptical too—blue cheese can be a lot—but if the dressing is doing the heavy lifting, that makes sense. What kind of steak did you use?

Why do we even need bacon? It’s just too much. Just keep it simple people!

Wedge salad? More like wedge boring! Where’s the flavor? 2 stars because at least it was edible.

    1. 4 stars
I think it’s all about how you season it! A little garlic or some spices could do wonders. Don’t be too harsh!

Honestly, I thought this was gonna be bland too, but the bacon and blue cheese really made it pop for me! Maybe try it again?

Yum, but can I use ranch dressing instead? Blue cheese is just not my thing.

    1. User avatar lindsey.olson1991 says:

      2 stars
Nah, ranch ain’t the same as blue cheese! Stick to the recipe or it ain’t a wedge salad no more.

Ranch dressing? That could work! Just make sure it blends well with the other flavors. I’d try it!

Uh, how can you even call this a salad? It’s just lettuce with steak on it. Seems more like a meal to me.

This is a perfect start for a BBQ night! Tasty and refreshing! 😋

Coulda used more steak. I measured 6oz and felt like it disappeared lol. Flavor is good though—would bump it up next time.

I followed the steps but my steak strips didn’t look “thin” enough—more like medium. Still tasty though. Next time I’ll slice after resting so it’s easier to get even cuts.

Steak in a salad? Sounds a bit weird to me. But hey, if you like it, more power to you.

Tried it for dinner and it was good, but I think I’d use a little less dressing next time. The blue cheese flavor is strong (which I usually love), just got a bit overwhelming on one wedge.
