Salmon with Basil Sauce

June 11, 2026

Salmon with Basil Sauce is a simple yet sophisticated dish that showcases the rich flavor of salmon paired with a vibrant herb sauce. The combination of tender, flaky fish and fresh basil creates a meal that feels both light and luxurious. Perfect for weeknight dinners, special occasions, or healthy meal planning, this recipe delivers restaurant-quality results with minimal effort.

Salmon is one of the most popular seafood choices thanks to its rich taste and impressive nutritional profile. Packed with high-quality protein, omega-3 fatty acids, and essential vitamins, salmon supports heart health and provides lasting satiety. Whether baked, grilled, or pan-seared, salmon develops a delicious exterior while remaining moist and tender on the inside.

The highlight of this dish is the basil sauce. Fresh basil leaves are blended with garlic, olive oil, lemon juice, and a touch of Parmesan cheese to create a smooth, flavorful sauce that complements the richness of the fish. The bright, herbaceous notes of basil balance the natural oils in the salmon, resulting in a dish that feels fresh and perfectly balanced. Some variations include Greek yogurt or cream for a silkier texture, while others keep the sauce light and dairy-free.

One of the best features of Salmon with Basil Sauce is its versatility. It pairs beautifully with a variety of side dishes, making it easy to customize for different occasions. Roasted vegetables such as asparagus, zucchini, or broccoli provide color and nutrition, while rice, quinoa, or baby potatoes create a more substantial meal. A simple green salad with a lemon vinaigrette also complements the flavors wonderfully.

This dish is ideal for anyone seeking a healthy dinner without sacrificing flavor. The combination of lean protein, healthy fats, and fresh herbs creates a nutrient-rich meal that feels satisfying but not overly heavy. It also comes together quickly, making it an excellent option for busy schedules.

For added flavor, garnish the finished salmon with extra basil leaves, lemon wedges, or a sprinkle of freshly grated Parmesan cheese. These simple finishing touches enhance both the presentation and taste of the dish.

Salmon with Basil Sauce proves that healthy cooking can be both easy and delicious. The rich, flaky salmon paired with a bright and aromatic basil sauce creates a memorable meal that is elegant enough for entertaining yet simple enough for everyday dining. It’s a recipe that brings freshness, flavor, and nutrition together in every bite.

Not bad, but I think I cooked the salmon too long. Next time will be more careful.

Yeah, salmon can dry out fast. Just keep an eye on it next time! The sauce sounds yummy, though!

Too much basil, I prefer a sauce with less green stuff. Not for me, sorry.

I don’t know, it was kinda bland for me. Maybe I used too much water in the sauce?

Good! Just good. Nothing special, but decent for a weeknight dinner.

I followed the recipe but it didn’t come out right. The sauce was too bitter, maybe too much basil?

    1. User avatar Zarniwoop says:

Maybe try less basil next time or add some sugar to balance it out? 🤔

Sounds good but I dunno, did you try it without the cheese? I heard it might be better that way.

    2. 5 stars
I’m glad you liked it! The basil sauce is a game changer. Do you think it would work with chicken too?

  13. 4 stars
I made it for my family and they all loved it! Didn’t even need to add extra salt.

Awesome dish! I used dried basil since I had no fresh and it still worked. Yum!

  15. User avatar NAFO.SUPREMACY says:

I thought this was a bit bland. Needs more garlic for my taste.

    1. User avatar jackqueline.keeling70 says:

I can see why you’d feel that way! Garlic definitely adds a nice kick. I usually toss in an extra clove or two myself! 🌱

  16. User avatar farrah.stroman says:

Simple and fancy at the same time. I was skeptical about cooking time, but 4-5 minutes then 3-4 minutes worked great for my fillets.

  17. User avatar roseline.deckow says:

Made this tonight—wow. The basil sauce tastes super fresh and not heavy at all. I added a little extra lemon and it was perfect with the flaky salmon.

    1. User avatar jeanett.haag2005 says:

      5 stars
So glad you loved it! The lemon/basil combo really does brighten up the salmon—extra lemon sounds spot on.

  18. User avatar octavia.davis says:

    4 stars
Didn’t have Parmesan so I skipped it. Still tasty, but I think it would’ve been richer with cheese. Pepper could’ve been slightly less for my taste.

  19. User avatar adriene.armstrong96 says:

    5 stars
The timing is nice and simple. I cooked mine a touch longer because my fillets were thicker, but the flavor was amazing. Garlic + lemon = wow.

    1. 5 stars
Totally agree—garlic + lemon really makes the basil sauce pop. I also went a bit longer since my fillets were thicker and it turned out juicy. Nice recipe!

  20. User avatar blake.runolfsson says:

    3 stars
Basil + garlic + lemon juice sounds amazing, but I’m worried about all the olive oil—kinda oily. It was tasty, yet I had to blot the salmon a bit before serving.

  21. User avatar harland.becker1951 says:

    4 stars
I was skeptical about blending basil raw, but it worked. Texture was smooth and bright. Next time I’ll toast the garlic for more depth.

  22. User avatar dwight.prosacco62 says:

    3 stars
The flavors are nice, but 1 tsp salt felt a bit much with my salmon. I’d start lighter next time and adjust after tasting.

  23. User avatar kenya.nitzsche says:

    3 stars
Followed the recipe exactly and it felt a little salty to me (I guess because I added “to taste” salt). Next time I’ll go lighter on the extra salt step.

    1. User avatar alfredo.jakubowski55 says:

      5 stars
Good call adjusting the extra salt step. The recipe already starts with 1 tsp salt, so if you’re adding “to taste,” it can tip into salty fast—next time I’d taste the sauce too before finishing.

  24. User avatar kandy.gislason says:

    5 stars
Made this tonight—wow. The basil sauce is super fresh and the salmon came out perfectly flaky. I did add a pinch more salt like it suggested and it was spot on.

  25. User avatar gilberto.carter45 says:

    3 stars
The instructions are clear, but when you say “about 6 ounces each” my fillets were way bigger and took longer. Sauce was good anyway—just burned the garlic a tiny bit.

  26. User avatar Falmer Nightprowler says:

    2 stars
I did NOT have enough basil so I used spinach… don’t do that unless you want a totally different vibe. Sauce was kinda meh but the salmon was still tasty.

  27. User avatar Michael83 says:

    2 stars
I didn’t have fresh basil so I used dried (I know, I know). It was… not the same. Still okay, just tasted kinda muted. Would try again with fresh leaves for sure.

  28. User avatar everette.altenwerth22 says:

    3 stars
I’m skeptical of blending basil that much—mine turned a little bitter after it sat. Fresh basil helps, but don’t let it sit too long.

  29. 3 stars
Pretty good, but my sauce turned out a bit bitter. I think my basil was older. Still ate it all though 😅

    1. User avatar norine.bogan says:

      5 stars
Ahh that makes sense—older basil can definitely get a little bitter. Next time try adding a splash more lemon or a pinch of salt while tasting, and maybe use the freshest leaves you can find. Glad you still ate it all 😄

  30. User avatar jarrett.abbott0 says:

    4 stars
The sauce tasted amazing but mine turned out a little bitter. I think I blended the garlic too long? Next time I’ll use less garlic or blend shorter.

    1. User avatar ashely.cummerata16 says:

      4 stars
Bitter usually means you cooked the garlic too much or something got over-processed, so your theory makes sense. But honestly 2 cloves for 2 cups basil is already pretty strong—maybe try 1 clove next time and add salt/cheese to round it out.

    2. User avatar cesar.schoen61 says:

      5 stars
Glad it tasted amazing! Bitter basil sauce can happen if the garlic gets too harsh—blending shorter is a great call. I usually also add the garlic in last and pulse, not blend-whirl.

  31. User avatar eloy.langworth says:

    5 stars
The cooking time was spot on. Salmon came out juicy. I followed the salt/pepper exactly (I know, boring), and it tasted balanced.

  32. User avatar jed.keebler29 says:

    2 stars
Didn’t work for me—my basil sauce turned dark kind of fast and tasted a little bitter. Maybe I blended it too long?

    1. User avatar micheal.morar1996 says:

      4 stars
That sounds frustrating. I wonder if the basil was getting oxidized or if your blender/friction heated it up—basil can turn dark fast. Try blending in shorter bursts (like 10–15 seconds at a time) and keep the sauce moving, and use very fresh basil. Also, bitter can happen if the garlic was too strong—maybe use a little less or let the garlic sit in the lemon juice for a minute before blending. How long were you blending?

  33. User avatar stephan.collins83 says:

    5 stars
Made this tonight—wow. The basil sauce tastes super fresh, like restaurant-level pesto but lighter. I used a bit more lemon and it really popped.

  34. User avatar sybil.parker says:

    3 stars
Not bad, but I think 4 fillets is kind of a lot for two people unless you eat leftovers. Also mine stuck a tiny bit to the pan even with the oil.

  35. 5 stars
This is one of those meals that feels fancy with almost no effort. I love that you can blend the sauce while the salmon preheats.

  36. User avatar alexander.batz says:

    5 stars
This was seriously restaurant-level. The basil sauce is bright and herby without being too heavy. I didn’t have fresh basil so I used frozen—still worked, just less punchy. Will make again!

  37. User avatar lola.buckridge65 says:

    5 stars
Made this tonight and it’s restaurant-level. The basil sauce is super fresh and the salmon comes out perfectly flaky. I used a little extra lemon and it was spot on.

  38. User avatar jayson.kovacek20 says:

    3 stars
This is good but why is it called basil sauce if it’s basically pesto lol. Also I burned the first batch because I used high heat—my fault. Still, I’d make it again.

  39. User avatar steve_maga says:

    3 stars
Honestly the instructions are clear, but 1/2 tsp pepper feels like a lot. Also I forgot to blend the water in and it got thick—still good, just not as saucy.

  40. User avatar Deep Thought says:

    4 stars
Flavor combo is great. I followed it pretty closely, but my sauce came out a little thick—next time I’ll add a touch more water. Salmon cooked perfectly though.

    1. User avatar Dr. Delbert McGlynn says:

      5 stars
Glad the basil flavor hit! Yeah, thicker sauce happens if the basil is packed tight or blends uneven—adding a splash more water makes total sense. The salmon timing sounds perfect on your end.

    2. 4 stars
Mine did the same thing—too thick like pesto. I didn’t add extra water at first, so I just added a bit more lemon, but maybe water woulda been better. Still tasty tho!
