One-Pan Chicken Gnocchi

August 21, 2024

When you’re short on time but still craving something warm and satisfying, one-pan chicken gnocchi is a go-to dish that delivers comfort with minimal cleanup. It’s rich, creamy, and packed with flavor, making it the kind of meal that feels like a treat even on the busiest nights.

This dish brings together tender bites of chicken, pillowy gnocchi, and a creamy sauce that ties everything together in just one skillet. Gnocchi, with its soft, chewy texture, soaks up all the flavor from the pan while adding heartiness that keeps you full. The chicken adds protein and texture, while garlic, herbs, and a splash of cream or broth round out the flavor profile.

One of the best parts about this meal is its simplicity. No boiling separate pots of pasta or juggling a dozen ingredients. You brown the chicken, sauté some aromatics, toss in the gnocchi, pour in your liquid, and let the pan do the work. It all comes together in under 30 minutes, which makes it perfect for a midweek dinner that doesn’t require much thought.

There’s also plenty of room to make it your own. Add spinach for a pop of green, sun-dried tomatoes for sweetness and depth, or mushrooms for an earthy twist. You can keep the sauce light with chicken broth and herbs or go rich with cream and parmesan for a decadent finish.

One-pan chicken gnocchi isn’t just easy and quick. It’s the kind of meal that feels cozy and comforting without being too heavy. It works equally well for family dinners or casual entertaining, and leftovers (if you have any) reheat beautifully the next day.

In a world full of complicated recipes and long ingredient lists, this dish stands out for its simplicity and flavor. It’s proof that you don’t need a lot of time or effort to create something delicious. Just one pan, a few good ingredients, and you’re set.

One word – amazing!! Best dinner idea I’ve had in a while.

I read somewhere that you can’t really cook chicken too long. Is that true?

It looks good, but is it really one pan? I always end up with a ton of dishes!

Looks simple enough, but what if I burn the chicken? 🤔

I didn’t have parmesan cheese, so I used cheddar. It tasted kinda weird, but still edible.

Could you use frozen spinach instead? I never have fresh on hand.

    1. User avatar shon.abshire says:

      5 stars
Yes, frozen spinach works great! Just thaw it and squeeze out the excess water. Enjoy your cooking!

  8. 3 stars
Gnocchi doesn’t take 5 minutes to cook, where do you get your info? 😕 But I still liked it.

yummy! can I sub the chicken for tofu? I don’t eat meat but this looks good!

This is ridiculously easy for a weeknight meal. The cream + parmesan makes the sauce so silky, and the gnocchi soak it up perfectly. I used half-and-half and it still turned out great.

  11. User avatar rachell.rosenbaum47 says:

I tried this recipe but didnt really like the gnocchi part. Maybe I’ll just use regular pasta next time.

  12. User avatar I. P. Freely says:

I made this for dinner last night, and my kids loved it. Super easy too!

  13. User avatar Draugr Overlord says:

I used frozen spinach by accident (oops) and had to cook longer to get rid of the extra liquid. Sauce thickened eventually, but it wasn’t as creamy as I expected.

    1. User avatar william.koss57 says:

      5 stars
Frozen spinach will definitely add more water—good save though! Next time, I’d thaw and squeeze it dry (or add it later) so the cream stays thicker.

  14. 5 stars
This was a game changer! So easy and delicious. My kids loved it too!

Sounds fun but I don’t like gnocchi much. Can it be made with pasta instead?

  15. User avatar hyman.gerhold86 says:

Gnocchi? Sounds fancy. I just used spaghetti instead. Was good.

    1. User avatar kecia.kihn29 says:

Spaghetti is fine, but gnocchi has a unique texture! You should try it next time!

  16. User avatar pete.nicolas1996 says:

Super easy and fast. I added some bell peppers I had lying around. Yummy!

    1. User avatar Dominic Vernius says:

      5 stars
That sounds delicious! The bell peppers must add a nice crunch. I’ll have to try that next time!

    2. 2 stars
I dunno… adding bell peppers might mess up the flavor? Gnocchi is perfect as it is.

  17. 1 star
Do Gnocchi float? I thought it was just the spaghetti that float!!

  18. 3 stars
I don’t like spinach, can I leave it out? Or use something else?

    1. User avatar dreama.crooks says:

      4 stars
You could definitely leave out the spinach or maybe try using kale or even broccoli instead! It’s gonna be tasty no matter what!

  19. User avatar alejandra.erdman says:

One pan? Love it! But why does everyone add so much cheese? Just make it less cheesy please.

  20. 4 stars
Not gonna lie, the ingredient list is kinda generic. Like how much salt?? Still, it tasted good. My kid went back for seconds, so I guess that counts.

    1. 5 stars
Generic?? It’s literally dinner, not a chemistry lab 😂 My granddad would’ve just eyeballed the salt and called it a day. Also the kid going back for seconds is the real review!

    2. User avatar doyle.barrows says:

      4 stars
Yeah I feel you on the “to taste” salt part 😅 I usually start with like 1/2 tsp, then adjust after the parmesan goes in—otherwise it can get too salty quick.

    10/10 would eat again!!!

    1. User avatar miranda.mueller53 says:

Yes, you can definitely use frozen gnocchi! Just follow the cooking instructions on the package, and it should turn out great!

  24. User avatar pedro.kuhlman2011 says:

I dunno, it tasted a bit bland to me. Maybe too much cream?

  25. 2 stars
Nice recipe, but I burnt the chicken. Maybe put heat lower?

    1. User avatar Feyd-Rautha Rabban says:

      3 stars
Burnt chicken? Just scrape it off! Still tastes good, right? 😂
