Mushroom Tacos are a delicious and hearty vegetarian alternative to traditional meat tacos, offering rich, umami flavors and satisfying textures. The earthy taste of mushrooms pairs perfectly with the classic taco toppings, making them an ideal choice for a quick, flavorful, and meatless meal. Whether you’re vegetarian, looking to try something new, or just craving a light yet filling dinner, these tacos are sure to impress.
The star of Mushroom Tacos is, of course, the mushrooms. Portobello, cremini, or shiitake mushrooms work beautifully in this dish due to their meaty texture and deep, savory flavor. When sautéed with onions, garlic, and a blend of spices such as cumin, chili powder, and smoked paprika, the mushrooms become tender and richly flavorful, mimicking the savory depth of meat.
Once the mushrooms are cooked, they’re ready to be piled into soft tortillas, where they can be topped with your favorite ingredients. Fresh lettuce, diced tomatoes, and sliced avocado add a cool, crisp contrast to the savory mushrooms. A sprinkle of cheese (optional for vegans) and a drizzle of sour cream or a tangy salsa bring creaminess and a bit of zest to every bite. For an extra kick, try adding some pickled jalapeños or a squeeze of lime juice.
Mushroom Tacos are incredibly versatile. You can experiment with different toppings, such as cilantro, shredded cabbage, or crumbled feta, to suit your preferences. You can even add a side of rice, beans, or roasted vegetables to round out the meal. These tacos are quick to prepare, making them perfect for a busy weeknight or a fun taco night with friends and family.
Whether you’re a long-time vegetarian or simply looking to switch up your taco game, Mushroom Tacos offer a flavorful, satisfying alternative that everyone can enjoy. With their rich flavors and satisfying textures, they’re sure to become a favorite in your taco rotation.

I didn’t have cilantro, so I used parsley instead. Still good!
Glad to hear it turned out good! Parsley can be a nice substitute sometimes. 🌿
1 cup onions and 1 cup bell peppers feels like a lot—my mix turned a bit watery. I should’ve cooked longer to evaporate. Still tasty though.
Had to substitute some ingredients. Only had button mushrooms and used spinach too. Still turned out great! 4 stars.
It took me longer than 7 minutes to cook! But it was worth the wait. 😅
Honestly it was kinda bland for me. Like, I followed it exactly and it needed more salt and lime. Also my taco shells got soft too fast.
Totally get that—mine definitely needed extra lime too. I always add more salt right at the end and it wakes up the mushrooms a lot. Sorry about the shells though 😅
idk i think its fine. maybe you cooked the mushrooms too long? also lime juice is kinda optional, salt already in there. soft shells are just from the steam, next time toast them again after filling.
I don’t like mushrooms 🤢 but my sister made these and LOVED them! Guess they’re good if you like fungi. 4 stars.
Absolutely delicious! This recipe is a game changer for taco night. 🌮❤️
So many veggies! I like it but a lil’ too healthy for my taste.
I don’t know, mushrooms are kinda weird… but these were actually good!
These tacos were absolutely delish! I added some avocado for extra creaminess.
I accidentally used lime juice from a bottle… still kinda okay. I’d do fresh next time though. Texture and seasoning were solid.
These were so good! I can’t believe how delicious they turned out! Will make again!
I tried these too and they are amazing! So flavorful! 🥳
Honestly, I was skeptical about mushroom tacos, but these were surprisingly good! I might try adding some cheese next time.
Best taco recipe yet lol. Easy to follow, my kids loved it. Even the picky eater!
I made these last night and they were ok, but I feel like it needs more flavor, maybe add some hot sauce next time. 3/5.
Tacos were fine but I feel like they needed more flavor. Maybe add more spice next time.
I don’t know, man. Seemed a bit bland to me. Maybe more spices would help?
My kids loved it! Who knew they would eat mushrooms?!
That’s awesome! It’s always a win when kids eat their veggies. 😄
Yum!
I had to try it because I’m a vegetarian and these were great! Yummy!
