Mushroom Tacos are a delicious and hearty vegetarian alternative to traditional meat tacos, offering rich, umami flavors and satisfying textures. The earthy taste of mushrooms pairs perfectly with the classic taco toppings, making them an ideal choice for a quick, flavorful, and meatless meal. Whether you’re vegetarian, looking to try something new, or just craving a light yet filling dinner, these tacos are sure to impress.
The star of Mushroom Tacos is, of course, the mushrooms. Portobello, cremini, or shiitake mushrooms work beautifully in this dish due to their meaty texture and deep, savory flavor. When sautéed with onions, garlic, and a blend of spices such as cumin, chili powder, and smoked paprika, the mushrooms become tender and richly flavorful, mimicking the savory depth of meat.
Once the mushrooms are cooked, they’re ready to be piled into soft tortillas, where they can be topped with your favorite ingredients. Fresh lettuce, diced tomatoes, and sliced avocado add a cool, crisp contrast to the savory mushrooms. A sprinkle of cheese (optional for vegans) and a drizzle of sour cream or a tangy salsa bring creaminess and a bit of zest to every bite. For an extra kick, try adding some pickled jalapeños or a squeeze of lime juice.
Mushroom Tacos are incredibly versatile. You can experiment with different toppings, such as cilantro, shredded cabbage, or crumbled feta, to suit your preferences. You can even add a side of rice, beans, or roasted vegetables to round out the meal. These tacos are quick to prepare, making them perfect for a busy weeknight or a fun taco night with friends and family.
Whether you’re a long-time vegetarian or simply looking to switch up your taco game, Mushroom Tacos offer a flavorful, satisfying alternative that everyone can enjoy. With their rich flavors and satisfying textures, they’re sure to become a favorite in your taco rotation.

I didn’t have cilantro, so I used parsley instead. Still good!
Glad to hear it turned out good! Parsley can be a nice substitute sometimes. 🌿
Had to substitute some ingredients. Only had button mushrooms and used spinach too. Still turned out great! 4 stars.
It took me longer than 7 minutes to cook! But it was worth the wait. 😅
Honestly it was kinda bland for me. Like, I followed it exactly and it needed more salt and lime. Also my taco shells got soft too fast.
Totally get that—mine definitely needed extra lime too. I always add more salt right at the end and it wakes up the mushrooms a lot. Sorry about the shells though 😅
idk i think its fine. maybe you cooked the mushrooms too long? also lime juice is kinda optional, salt already in there. soft shells are just from the steam, next time toast them again after filling.
I don’t like mushrooms 🤢 but my sister made these and LOVED them! Guess they’re good if you like fungi. 4 stars.
Absolutely delicious! This recipe is a game changer for taco night. 🌮❤️
So many veggies! I like it but a lil’ too healthy for my taste.
I don’t know, mushrooms are kinda weird… but these were actually good!
These tacos were absolutely delish! I added some avocado for extra creaminess.
These were so good! I can’t believe how delicious they turned out! Will make again!
I tried these too and they are amazing! So flavorful! 🥳
Honestly, I was skeptical about mushroom tacos, but these were surprisingly good! I might try adding some cheese next time.
Best taco recipe yet lol. Easy to follow, my kids loved it. Even the picky eater!
I made these last night and they were ok, but I feel like it needs more flavor, maybe add some hot sauce next time. 3/5.
Tacos were fine but I feel like they needed more flavor. Maybe add more spice next time.
I don’t know, man. Seemed a bit bland to me. Maybe more spices would help?
My kids loved it! Who knew they would eat mushrooms?!
That’s awesome! It’s always a win when kids eat their veggies. 😄
Yum!
I had to try it because I’m a vegetarian and these were great! Yummy!
Yum! Super easy to make and they turned out delicious. Will be making these again soon!
Amazing! I added some avocados and hot sauce, tasted great! Yum!
Delicious and nutritious! I added avocado too, highly recommend! 5 stars for sure.
Mushrooms? Yuck! I don’t think I will try these. Not for me.
Taco shells broke apart as soon as I filled them, so unimpressed!
I had the same issue! The taco shells were super fragile. Next time, I might just use tortillas instead.
I made these but used different vegetables. Not sure if they turned out as good as the original.🤔
Whaaat? Who eats mushrooms in tacos. Gross! 1 star
Mushrooms? Eww! I don’t get how people eat those, you should try meat instead!!!
I followed the recipe but my tacos fell apart. 😩 How do I keep them from breaking?
The mushrooms seemed a bit bland, maybe I need to add more spices next time. 🤔
Mushrooms? Really? Not for me. I prefer beef, but my vegetarian friend loved these. 2 stars for the effort.
I totally get you! Mushrooms can be weird for some people. But it’s nice that your friend liked them! Maybe give beef a try in tacos next time? 😊
These are amazing! I can’t believe how easy they are to make.
I tried these tacos last night and they were so good! I’m glad they were easy to make too. Thanks for sharing!
These mushroom tacos are incredible! I added some cheese, and my family loved them. Will make again!
Taste good but I forgot to add cilantro and lime, my bad. Gotta try it again! 😅
Why is everyone raving about these? The idea of mushroom tacos is nonsensical.
Not sure who thought of this. Mushrooms in tacos? Sounds weird, I prefer meat. But hey, to each their own!
Mushroom tacos are the best! They taste amazing, you just gotta try them yourself. They’re like veggie magic!
So delicious! 🌮 I didn’t have lime so I skipped that part, still yummy.
Glad you enjoyed it! Skipping lime is interesting though, but sometimes you gotta work with what you have! 🌟
This is super easy, I love it! Cooking is hard sometimes, but this helped! 😄
This recipe is dumb, who puts mushrooms in tacos? Tacos need meat! 😤
Why would you put mushrooms in tacos? You need meat! -_-
Easy peasy and super quick to make. I’ll definitely make these again!
I love how simple this is! Can’t wait to try it.
Who put mushrooms in tacos? That sounds odd. No thanks!
I dunno, mushrooms seem weird in tacos. Just stick to meat, it’s way better. 🤷♂️
Mushrooms in tacos is actually bomb! You should give it a try, you might like it!
The mushrooms turned out great, but my peppers took longer than 5-7 minutes to soften. Still tasty though—just plan for extra time.
These tacos are amazing! Can’t believe how such simple ingredients can taste so good. Definitely 5 stars!
The flavor was good but I think it was a bit too salty for my taste. Maybe I should have reduced the salt?
I thought it was perfect! I actually added more salt because I love a good salty kick. But yeah, I guess everyone’s taste is different!
No way! I found it super bland. Maybe if you added some hot sauce on top it would balance it out?
Mushrooms in tacos sounds weird, and I was skeptical… but it was okay. Cilantro and lime saved it. I might not make it often, but I won’t hate it.
yum!! I made it with shrimp instead, super tasty! Will suggest to my friends!
Not sure shrimp goes with mushrooms. Sounds weird.
Shrimp is a great idea! I never thought of that. Thanks for sharing!
Mushrooms? Really? Who eats that stuff? Give me beef anytime!
Used too much cumin for my taste. Maybe I’ll cut back next time.
I feel you! Cumin can be really overpowering sometimes. Maybe try less or even some other spices next time?
Naw, cumin’s the best! Can’t figure why you’d want to cut back. It’s what gives flavor! 🤷♂️
Mushrooms?? I thought this was a meat taco recipe. Disappointed…
I get that, but mushrooms are super tasty! Give ’em a chance, you might be surprised.
This ain’t what I was expectin’ either. How can you call it a taco without meat? Sounds weird.
Yummy! I added some cheese and it was perfect!
Cheese? Really? I don’t think it fits with mushrooms. 🤔
Sounds delicious! Cheese makes everything better. 🧀
Quick and delish! Will definitely make again.
These tacos are amazing! My whole family loved them. Definitely a keeper! 🌮✨
Didn’t have mushrooms so I used chicken instead. Still tasted ok! lol
Might replace with different veg next time, not a fan of mushrooms, you know?
Yummy! The cilantro really brings it all together.
Absolutely! Cilantro makes everything better. I love this recipe!
I tried to make these but forgot to buy tortillas. Could work with just mushrooms on a plate!
Super simple and quick to make. My kids loved it, will be making again for sure!
Wha? No meat? Are these even tacos? Who eats this? LOL.
Really good weeknight meal. The cook time is spot on and the lime + cilantro makes it pop. Taco shells stayed crunchy too!
Too bland for my taste. I expected more flavor, maybe some hot sauce would help. 2 stars.
Yum! Will make again. So easy and quick to whip up! 🤤
Yummy! Vegan tacos! 🌱 Who needs meat when you have mushrooms?!
I dunno, man. Vegan tacos? I think you gotta have meat for it to be a real taco. 🤨
Absolutely! Mushrooms are the best! 🌟 Can’t wait to try this out!
I burned the mushrooms! Oops! Still ate them tho. 😜
I dunno, sounds kinda gross to me… How can you eat burnt stuff?!
Burnt mushrooms can still be tasty! Just add some extra seasoning next time. 😉
Yummy yumm! Best tacos I’ve had in ages! Fresh lime really made a difference.
These mushroom tacos are LIFE-CHANGING! I added some avocado and it was amazing! 5 stars!
I totally agree! The avocado really elevates the dish. Thanks for the tip!
Taco shells were stale… but the filling was good.
Easy to make but my tacos fell apart. Not sure what I did wrong. Maybe should’ve used sturdier shells? 🤔 3 stars.
I had the same problem! I think the shells need to be thicker or baked for a bit. Try that next time! 🌮
Why didn’t you just use tortillas? Tacos r meant to be held by soft ones anyway. Just a thought…
No way, I thought mushrooms were just for soup! But these were great. 😮
I’m not usually a taco person, but this actually works. Still, I wish there was more sauce—could use a bit of salsa or crema on top.
These were surprisingly flavorful—like smoky and fresh at the same time. I added a little garlic and it tasted even better. Will make again!
Good recipe, but I thought 1/2 tsp salt felt a bit low since mushrooms soak up flavors. Next time I’ll bump it slightly and add maybe a pinch of chili powder.
Hmm… I used 1/2 tsp salt and it was fine for me, but maybe my mushrooms were smaller? I usually add chili flakes instead of chili powder though. Also I think taco shells already have some salt, so maybe that helps?
I get what you mean—mushrooms can be kind of flavor-spongy. I’d say start with 1/2 tsp, then taste after cooking and add more if needed. Chili powder sounds like a great tweak!
Really easy and fast to make! Perfect weeknight dinner. I used leftover veggies too!
