Maple-Glazed Roast Chicken is a delightful dish that combines the savory richness of roasted chicken with the sweet and slightly smoky flavor of maple syrup. This dish is perfect for special occasions, family dinners, or when you’re looking to elevate your usual roast chicken recipe with a unique twist. The natural sweetness of maple syrup balances beautifully with the savory herbs and spices, creating a perfectly glazed, crispy skin and juicy, tender meat.
The key to this dish is the maple glaze, which is made by combining pure maple syrup with garlic, Dijon mustard, soy sauce, and a touch of rosemary or thyme. This mixture creates a sweet-savory coating that caramelizes beautifully during the roasting process, giving the chicken a shiny, golden finish. The syrup adds a hint of sweetness, while the mustard and soy sauce provide depth and complexity to the glaze.
The chicken itself is seasoned with classic herbs and spices like garlic powder, onion powder, and black pepper, creating a flavorful base under the glaze. As the chicken roasts, the maple glaze is brushed onto the skin periodically, allowing it to form a delicious, slightly sticky coating that crisps up in the oven. The result is a juicy, flavorful roast chicken with a perfectly caramelized, golden skin.
Maple-Glazed Roast Chicken is a versatile dish that pairs wonderfully with a variety of side dishes. You can serve it with roasted vegetables, mashed potatoes, or a simple green salad for a well-rounded meal. The sweetness of the glaze also makes it a perfect accompaniment to savory sides, balancing out the richness of roasted vegetables or creamy mashed potatoes.
The beauty of this recipe lies in its simplicity. While the ingredients are straightforward, the flavors come together in a way that makes the dish feel special. It’s a great way to add a touch of sweetness to a classic roast chicken, and it’s sure to be a hit at your next family dinner or gathering. Whether you’re a fan of sweet and savory combinations or just looking for a new way to prepare roast chicken, this recipe will quickly become a favorite.

This recipe is absolutely delicious! The maple syrup makes it so sweet and savory. My family loved it!
1/2 cup maple syrup feels like a lot… and it was. The flavor was fine but it got a little caramel-bitter at the edges. Next time I’d reduce the syrup to 1/3 cup.
Totally agree—maple can go from sweet to kind of burnt/bitter fast at the edges. I’ve started doing closer to 1/3 cup too, and it behaves much better.
Maple syrup on chicken? I thought that was only for pancakes. I don’t know if I like this.
I made this for dinner and it was kinda undercooked. Be sure to check the temp before serving!
Yum! Gonna try it with honey instead of maple, hear honey’s better for chicken.
This was the best roast chicken I’ve ever made! The maple glaze was so sweet and sticky, my whole family loved it! Definitely a keeper!
Wow, that sounds delicious! I’m definitely going to try the maple glaze. My kids love sweet flavors!
Yum! Just yum! Can I use turkey instead? Asking for Thanksgiving later! 🦃
Made this tonight and it’s honestly restaurant-level. The maple + soy combo is such a good sweet-salty balance. I used a bit less salt since my soy sauce was already salty, but otherwise followed it exactly.
My glaze burned a bit at the end 😬 I think because I basted too close to the last stretch without watching. The chicken was cooked though. Next time I’ll tent with foil.
It was okay, I guess. My kids didn’t like it much. I’m stickin’ with BBQ next time.
meh. good smell but i dont know it was kinda bland inside. i think i forgot to baste enough or my chicken was too big. will try again.
Totally get it—this glaze is good, but it can be a little mild if the basting is light or the chicken needs more time. Next time, try glazing every ~25-30 minutes and make sure you’re basting all the way through to the thickest part.
Hmm maybe you overestimated the size? 3-4 lb is what I follow—if yours was bigger, 40 + 40 might not be enough. I’d check with a thermometer (165°F in the thickest part). Also, I once forgot the garlic and it tasted flat, so double-check that step 😅
I tried it but made a few substitutions. Used honey instead of maple and it turned out good! Maybe try it that way?
Interesting substitution! Honey gives it a nice sweetness too. I’ll have to try that next time.
This is the best roast chicken I’ve ever made! The maple glaze gives it such a nice flavor. My family loved it!
I tried this recipe and it turned out terrible! The glaze was too sweet for me. Never making it again.
I loved the garlic in this! Really brought out the flavor. Will make again for sure!
Not sure I’m doing this right. 40 minutes + 35–40 seems like way too long for a 3-4 lb bird—mine was already browned, and the inside was still kinda pink. Could be my oven though.
I don’t know, I think the maple syrup is a bit much. It made it taste too sweet for my liking. Maybe less syrup next time?
Amazing flavors! The maple glaze was a hit with my family. Definitely making this again!
Really? Maple glaze? I don’t know… sounds kinda weird for chicken, don’t you think?
That sounds delicious! I love using maple syrup in recipes. Can’t wait to try it myself!
Just okay. My chicken didn’t cook evenly and got burnt on one side. Maybe my oven is broken? 🤷♂️
Tastes too sweet. I think the maple is overpowering, next time I might only use a quarter cup.
But the maple is what makes it taste good! Can’t believe you think it’s too sweet!
I actually loved the sweetness! Maybe try balancing it with some lemon juice next time?
Took too long to cook and I kept wondering does chicken really taste good with syrup? Not sure I’d try again.
Too complicated! Why do I need to melt butter? Sounds like too much work.
Wow! Yummy 😋
Really good, but I think 375°F is a bit low for a 4-lb chicken. Mine was taking forever. Also, I accidentally forgot the salt at first (oops) so I had to fix it with extra soy while roasting—still tasty.
375 feels too low to me too. My 4-lb chicken would’ve been rubbery at that temp 😂 I crank it closer to 425 and get better browning, then lower it if it’s cooking too fast.
Thanks for sharing! I’m surprised about the temp though—375°F usually works, but for a thicker 4-lb bird you might definitely need closer to the high end of the time (or check with a thermometer).
Pretty straightforward. The maple/soy combo smells like a fancy restaurant. I did 10 min longer because my chicken was a bit bigger, but no complaints.
This was a game changer! Best chicken I’ve made, everyone loved it. Totally recommend!
So easy! But I accidentally forgotten the salt and it was so bland lol. Gonna try again. Wish me luck!
This came out so good—sticky, sweet-salty glaze with crispy-ish skin. I basted a couple times extra and it caramelized nicely. 10/10 with roasted veggies.
Tried this tonight—so sticky and flavorful. The maple + soy combo is surprisingly perfect. Followed the basting steps and it browned beautifully.
I think 375°F is too low—my skin didn’t get as crisp as I wanted. Maybe my oven runs cold? I’d bump to 400 next time and watch the glaze so it doesn’t burn.
Absolutely delicious. My kids asked for seconds and didn’t complain about dinner for once lol. I used fresh garlic and cracked pepper and it made a difference.
This was delicious! The maple glaze is sweet, but not too sweet. Will definitely make again!
Meh, just okay. I’ve had better roast chickens. My mom does it best.
I don’t get why people rave about this recipe. The glaze was too sweet and the chicken was dry. Not for me.
I actually loved the sweetness! It balanced the savory chicken nicely. Maybe you overcooked it?
Eh, I followed the recipe but it tasted way too sweet for me. I think I’ll stick with garlic herb chicken.
I totally get it! It is sweet! Maybe you could try reducing the syrup next time? The garlic herb chicken sounds tasty too!
I was skeptical about the soy sauce in a “maple” glaze, but it actually balanced it perfectly. Next time I’ll start checking at 55 minutes total because my chicken ran a little fast.
Just wow! 🤤 The flavors went perfectly together. This recipe is a keeper!
I’m skeptical about the soy sauce in this recipe. Maple and soy? Seems weird.
I love sweet-savory, but mine turned dark way before it was done. Next time I’ll cover loosely with foil halfway. Flavor is great though—garlic and pepper really show up.
Maybe your oven runs hot? Mine always browns quick with maple. I also think 3-4 lb chicken can vary a lot—40+35 is sometimes not enough. Cover it sooner, and check thighs with a thermometer, not just color 😅
Dark before it’s done sounds like the maple sugars browning too fast. I’d try tenting with foil earlier (like after the first 30 min), and maybe reduce the oven temp to 360°F next time. Glad the garlic/pepper came through though!
Not gonna lie, I thought maple syrup would be too sweet, but it’s actually pretty subtle after roasting. The skin came out nicely lacquered.
I had the same fear—maple syrup just sounds like it could take over—but this roast-glaze idea makes sense. “Lacquered” is exactly the word. Did you baste right before you cover it or leave it uncovered the whole time?
Maple syrup is sweet tho… I think 1/2 cup might still be a lot for a 3–4 lb bird. Maybe try less next time? Also mine never comes out lacquered, my oven runs hot or something. But hey, flavors prob good.
Sweet, savory, and so easy! I mafe this for dinner and it was perfect!
This recipe is amazing! The chicken turned out so juicy and flavorful. My family loved it! 🥰
Um, isn’t roast chicken supposed to be with herbs? Not a syrup? I’m not sure about this one… 🤔
I added some cayenne pepper for a kick, it turned out great! Spicy maple chicken!
This is almost too easy! I thought it would be complicated but it was simple and tasty.
Meh. It was alright. Nothing too special about it.
My recipe book is now just this chicken recipe. Can’t wait to make it again!
The instructions are clear, but “juices run clear” is kinda vague—mine stayed pinkish even though it was probably done. I should’ve used a thermometer.
Yeah, “juices run clear” always feels a little sketchy. Pinkish can still be fine depending on timing and how you carved it—thermometer is the way to go. I usually pull it around 165°F in the thickest part (and it keeps cooking while it rests).
Yummy! Tried it on a BBQ, was so good!
Never thought of maple on chicken, but WOW! So good! I’m definitely making it again.
I tried this and it was amazing! The maple flavor is just perfect with the chicken. Thanks for sharing!
Really? Maple on chicken? Seems weird, but to each their own. I don’t think I’d try it.
I don’t have maple syrup, so I used honey. It worked, just slightly thicker and sweeter. Would recommend making sure to baste carefully.
I was skeptical about using maple syrup on chicken, but wow! It turned out amazing!
OMG this is the best chicken ever! I told all my friends to try this recipe.
I was worried the soy would make it taste salty, but honestly it was balanced. Next time I might add a pinch of chili flakes for some heat. Great instructions though.
I added some rosemary and thyme to the glaze and it turned out pretty good! Nice change from regular roast chicken. Highly recommend!
I don’t understand how people like maple on chicken. This was kinda weird…
Maple syrup n chicken?! Who thought of this? Surprised I liked it.
I was skeptical about the maple/soy glaze, but wow. The skin came out nicely browned and not greasy. Followed the timing and it was juicy after the 10-minute rest.
Doesn’t soy sauce have gluten? I can’t eat that, so I didn’t try this recipe.
I had high hopes, but it turned out dry. Maybe I overcooked it?
Sorry to hear that! It can definitely get dried out if it’s overcooked. How long did you cook it for?
Tasted great! Only thing I didn’t like was the garlic smell in the house for a week! Yikes.
I know what you mean! Garlic can really linger. But the flavor is worth it, right?
You could try using less garlic! Or maybe just air out the house better next time?
