Lavender Tea Bread

March 30, 2026

Lavender Tea Bread is a delicate, fragrant bake that brings a touch of elegance to any table. Inspired by classic afternoon tea traditions, this soft, lightly sweet loaf is infused with subtle floral notes that make it feel both calming and refined. The aroma alone is enough to set the mood, filling your kitchen with a gentle scent that feels almost therapeutic.

What makes lavender tea bread so unique is its balance. Lavender can easily become overpowering, but when used correctly, it adds a soft, almost citrusy floral note that enhances rather than dominates the flavor. Paired with ingredients like vanilla, lemon zest, or honey, it creates a beautifully layered taste that is light, fresh, and slightly aromatic. The texture is typically tender and moist, somewhere between a pound cake and a traditional tea loaf, making it perfect for slicing and sharing.

This bread is often associated with slow moments and simple pleasures. It pairs wonderfully with a warm cup of tea, especially blends like chamomile, Earl Grey, or cinnamon tea. Served during brunch, afternoon gatherings, or quiet mornings, it adds a subtle sophistication without feeling too heavy or overly sweet.

Lavender tea bread also offers a visually appealing presentation. Its soft golden crumb, sometimes topped with a light glaze or dusting of sugar, can be enhanced with tiny lavender buds for a charming, rustic finish. It feels like something you would find in a countryside café or a cozy bakery, inviting you to slow down and enjoy each bite.

Perfect for those who enjoy floral flavors or want to try something a little different, Lavender Tea Bread is a beautiful blend of comfort and creativity. It turns a simple loaf into a memorable experience, ideal for both everyday indulgence and special occasions.

Absolutely delightful! The lavender gives it such a unique flavor. I made it for my tea party, and everyone loved it!

Made this today and omg the lavender smell is unreal. I used a little less sugar and it still tasted sweet enough. Crumb came out tender—will bake again for sure.

    1. User avatar rickiestmorty says:

      4 stars
Lavender smell unreal is right 😄 I followed it exactly and the sweetness felt perfect. Next time I’ll try your slightly less sugar idea.

    2. User avatar joe_banana says:

      5 stars
Yes!! I made this too and the lavender aroma is on another level. Glad the crumb stayed tender—this recipe definitely doesn’t get “dry loaf” vibes.

  3. User avatar Jordan Maggio says:

    3 stars
It smells amazing while baking. Never thought I could bake with lavender! But honestly, it’s just ok to me. Didn’t taste as good as it smelled.

    1. User avatar randolph.lockman1953 says:

      4 stars
I totally get what you mean! The smell is divine, but sometimes the taste just doesn’t match up. Maybe try adding more sugar next time? 🙈

  4. User avatar Ahmad Schaefer says:

    4 stars
Easier than I thought! I didn’t have lavender so I used vanilla instead. Still yummy 🍞👌

    1. User avatar le.wintheiser66 says:

      2 stars
I’m not sure about using vanilla instead of lavender… that’s like swapping spaghetti for rice. 🤔

    2. User avatar lajuana.willms says:

      5 stars
Glad you enjoyed it! Vanilla must’ve given it a nice twist. I might try that next time!

  5. User avatar Dean Gleichner says:

    2 stars
Meh, was expecting more flavor. Didn’t know what lavender tastes like but it’s not my cup of tea.

    1. User avatar melvin.hickle42 says:

      4 stars
I totally get it! Lavender is kinda weird for a lot of people. Did you try anything else with it? Maybe lemon could boost the flavor!

  6. User avatar lupe.kertzmann54 says:

    2 stars
This bread turned out dry and didn’t have much flavor. I followed the recipe exactly but it was a flop. Disappointed!

  7. User avatar fernando.romaguera44 says:

    4 stars
Lavender in bread? Really? I had my doubts but WOW, this is something special. Everyone should try this!

  8. User avatar basementDweller says:

    2 stars
I don’t see the appeal of lavender in bread… it just tasted weird to me. Not my cup of tea!

  9. User avatar ute.rippin13 says:

    5 stars
This loaf smells AMAZING—like a fancy tea shop. I steeped a little longer (about 15 min) and it turned out super fragrant without tasting soapy. Great texture too!

  10. User avatar halflife4 says:

    3 stars
Can I use vanilla extract instead of lavender? Sounds odd to me…

  11. User avatar wildebeest says:

    5 stars
Wow, wow, wow! So good!!! Def recommended! I used coconut milk instead and it turned out perfect!

    1. User avatar malcolm.brekke says:

      4 stars
Coconut milk? That sounds interesting! I never thought of that. I might try it next time!

  12. User avatar micah.bednar99 says:

    3 stars
I’m not sure about lavender in bread 😅 The smell is okay, but the taste was kinda weird for me. Maybe I used the wrong kind of lavender? Still, texture was decent.

  13. User avatar romeo.toy says:

    1 star
Is there a reason for milk in a bread recipe? Use water next time for fat free! 😂

  14. User avatar Supreme Kai says:

    4 stars
The steeping step is key. I didn’t strain aggressively at first and got little bits of lavender in some bites, but it was still good and kinda rustic.

  15. 4 stars
Great recipe! My kids loved it and it made my house smell amazing while it baked. Thank you!

    1. User avatar reid.johnston says:

      5 stars
I love lavender in recipes! Can’t wait to try this myself. Thanks for sharing!

  16. User avatar wellRespected says:

    3 stars
I think it’s gonna be good but I forgot to sift the flour and my batter was kinda thick. Still baked it anyway—hoping it works out 😅

  17. 3 stars
I followed the recipe but mine didn’t rise much. What did I do wrong? 😟

  18. User avatar logan.cole82 says:

    4 stars
    This is actually really good.

  20. User avatar ArabianNights says:

    5 stars
This was absolutely delicious! The lavender flavor is so unique, I can’t stop eating it!

    1. 5 stars
I totally agree! The lavender adds such a nice twist to the usual recipes. It’s so refreshing!

  21. 5 stars
This sounded fancy, but it actually turned out super cozy. I used a bit extra lavender and the aroma was AMAZING while baking. Soft crumb, not too sweet. Definitely making again.

  22. User avatar oPandariaNo says:

    4 stars
The butter and sugar creamed nicely, but I was confused by “beginning and ending with the flour mixture.” I ended up following it anyway and it turned out fine, not dry at all.

  23. 5 stars
Five stars just because it looks like coffee shop bread. I did forget to soften the butter tho, so I microwaved it a little—still tasty.

  24. User avatar Loonquawl and Phouchg says:

    3 stars
Uhm I accidentally forgot to sift the flour and it still rose, so maybe that part isn’t super necessary. Texture was fine, flavor was great.

  25. User avatar solomon.jones52 says:

    2 stars
Not bad but I’m confused: “culinary lavender buds” are hard to find where I live. I used what I had (dried lavender for soap?) and it tasted weird. Please label this better!

    1. User avatar diego.schumm says:

      4 stars
Maybe you used the wrong type 😕 Culinary lavender buds are meant for eating. If you only had soap lavender, it’ll absolutely taste weird. Look for “edible” or “culinary” lavender.

    2. User avatar roberto.goodwin2025 says:

      5 stars
Totally get the confusion—“culinary lavender” is a specific food-grade lavender. Most regular dried lavender is for soap/sachets and can taste soapy or medicinal.

  26. User avatar criselda.christiansen34 says:

    3 stars
Way too sweet for me personally—next time I’ll cut the sugar in half or do a smaller loaf. Also 350°F felt a little too hot; browning happened fast.

  27. 4 stars
Nice flavor, but 2 tbsp lavender buds felt a bit strong for me. Next time I’ll scale it down or steep for less. Otherwise great loaf texture.

  28. User avatar kandis.borer says:

    3 stars
The crust is perfect, but my center was slightly underbaked even though the toothpick looked clean. Maybe I should’ve used roomier eggs or checked earlier.

  29. User avatar lorilee.cruickshank says:

    3 stars
Mine came out a little dense (maybe I overmixed after adding flour?). Still tasty though—kinda like a light tea cake. Next time I’ll be gentler with mixing.

  30. User avatar Ms. Lamar Hackett says:

    5 stars
Just tried it—5/5. So good 😄

  31. User avatar bobby.satterfield says:

    4 stars
The steeping step matters—mine was weak when I only let it go like 5 minutes. When I redid it with the full 10, the flavor popped. Small change, big difference.

  32. User avatar Sand-Dial says:

    5 stars
Wow. The crumb is tender and the lavender comes through gently, like a tea cookie. I served it with honey butter and it was gone fast.

    1. User avatar Adalberto Wyman says:

      5 stars
That sounds perfect—lavender can be so hit-or-miss, but “tea cookie” is exactly the vibe I hoped for. Honey butter too?! I’m adding that to my plan.

  33. User avatar rachelle.ziemann35 says:

    5 stars
Wow. 10/10 aroma. Like bakery but at home.

  34. User avatar valentine.damore2018 says:

    5 stars
Followed the steps exactly and it came out golden and fluffy. The lavender flavor is subtle (not overpowering), which I liked. Would make again for brunch.

  35. User avatar tamela.reynolds says:

    4 stars
I was worried the lavender would taste soapy, but it didn’t! Used culinary buds and strained well. Sweetness is just right with the 1 cup sugar.

    1. User avatar Trin Tragula says:

      4 stars
Mine tasted a little perfumey at first, and I panicked 😅 but I think I under-strained it. Next batch I’ll steep 10 min like the recipe and strain better. Sweetness though—good call on the 1 cup.

    2. User avatar virgil.klein23 says:

      5 stars
I’m so glad you mentioned the “soapy” concern—I’ve been scared of lavender too. Sounds like using culinary buds + straining made the difference. I’ll try it with 1 cup sugar next time.

  36. User avatar joe.hansen50 says:

    3 stars
Mine turned out a little dry, even though I followed the bake time pretty closely. Maybe my loaf pan runs hot? Flavor is good though—just wish it was more moist.

    1. User avatar idella.trantow13 says:

      4 stars
Sorry yours came out dry 😕 I’ve found loaf breads get dry fast if the oven runs hot—next time try lowering to 340°F and start checking at ~35 min. Also make sure the toothpick is “just clean,” not totally dry crumbs.

  37. 2 stars
I don’t know what went wrong, but my batter seemed super thick—like cookie dough—so I added a splash more milk. It still baked, just denser. Maybe my eggs were smaller?

  38. User avatar josef.walker22 says:

    3 stars
I followed the steps exactly and it was delicious, but my middle sank slightly after cooling. Not sure if my loaf pan was too hot or if I underbaked by a couple minutes.

  39. User avatar fausto.kutch1990 says:

    5 stars
Made this last weekend and wow—floral without tasting like soap. I steeped a full 12 minutes and it came out super fragrant. Great loaf!

  40. User avatar yessenia.mosciski72 says:

    4 stars
The lavender buds instruction is key—mine tasted weaker because I only steeped ~5 minutes. Next time I’ll do the full 10 and use more buds if needed.

    1. 4 stars
I’m guilty of steeping too fast 🙃 5 min is like, “hello?” for lavender. Full 10 next time and maybe a little extra buds. Thanks!

    2. User avatar lori.swaniawski says:

      5 stars
Totally agree—lavender needs time. I did 10 minutes the first try and it actually tasted like something instead of “kinda floral.” Great tip on bumping the buds too!

  41. 5 stars
I made this yesterday and omg the lavender smell is so elegant. Mine needed like 5 extra minutes in the oven though—still perfect once sliced.

    1. User avatar harland.harvey2002 says:

      5 stars
Wow, this is exactly the vibe I want—“elegant” is such a perfect word for lavender. Good call on adding 5 extra minutes; my ovens always run cool too. 😊

  42. User avatar jim.rempel says:

    2 stars
I tried it and it sank in the middle. Not sure if I overmixed or if my baking powder is old. But it still tasted good, just not pretty.

  43. 4 stars
I followed it but my loaf took closer to 55 minutes to set in the middle. Once I baked longer it was fine. The scent while it’s in the oven is unreal.

  44. User avatar edwardo.satterfield29 says:

    2 stars
I don’t know about lavender in bread… I tried it anyway and it tastes kinda like potpourri if you add too much. I used the exact amount and it was still borderline for me.

  45. User avatar butterfly says:

    4 stars
Very unique flavor! I served it with honey butter and it was a hit. My only complaint is it doesn’t stay moist long (next day it’s drier).

    1. User avatar kendrick.runolfsdottir1 says:

      5 stars
Glad you liked the lavender vibe! For the “next-day dry” issue, I’ve found brushing the warm loaf with a little melted butter (or honey butter like you did) right after it comes out really helps lock in moisture.

  46. User avatar randy.greenfelder52 says:

    2 stars
Not sure about the lavender… it tastes kinda weird to me, like perfume. I’m probably doing something wrong with the buds, but the flavor didn’t land.

    1. 5 stars
I totally get that—culinary lavender can taste “perfume-y” fast if the buds are too strong. I’d try steeping shorter (like 5 min) or using a bit less next time. Also make sure they’re *culinary* buds (not potpourri).

  47. User avatar woodrow.pfeffer1977 says:

    2 stars
Came out dense for me. I think I didn’t sift the flour properly. Also I forgot to let the butter soften, so it wouldn’t cream well. Lesson learned.

  48. User avatar Fenchurch says:

    5 stars
Made this today and it smells like a fancy café. The lavender is subtle (not overpowering) and the loaf is really tender. I used almond milk and it still worked great. Will definitely bake again!

  49. User avatar flora.strosin says:

    4 stars
I followed it exactly and still my toothpick came out clean but the center was a bit wet. Could be my eggs were too cold? Otherwise flavor was great.

  50. User avatar stacy.predovic2005 says:

    4 stars
Pretty good! I followed most steps exactly, but my loaf took closer to 50 min. Flavor was nice—though I think next time I’ll steep a little less lavender because it felt slightly perfumey.

    1. User avatar guadalupe.schultz2001 says:

      5 stars
Thanks! “Perfumey” is exactly what you’re trying to avoid—lavender can go overboard fast. Next time, try cutting the buds to like 1 to 1.5 tbsp or steep only 5 minutes.

  51. 5 stars
I followed this exactly and the lavender flavor is actually subtle (in a good way), not soap-y. Came out moist and fragrant—will make again for sure.

  52. User avatar ema.botsford says:

    4 stars
Could’ve used clearer timing. The steeping for 10 min felt short—next time I’ll do 20. Lavender is like— it needs respect.

  53. User avatar mitchell.conroy1995 says:

    4 stars
Loved the instructions—especially the steeping and straining part. I used almond milk like suggested and it worked great. Next time I might add a lemon glaze to brighten it.

  54. User avatar francine.rath2 says:

    4 stars
I was skeptical about lavender in bread, but wow. Next time I might steep it a tiny bit longer for more flavor. Texture came out fluffy and the crust is nice.

  55. User avatar myles.toy88 says:

    2 stars
Meh. Lavender bread just sounds off to me. I didn’t love the flavor, sorry.

  56. User avatar Torchbugs says:

    5 stars
This is the first time I baked with lavender and I’m honestly shocked how good it was. My kitchen smelled like a fancy hotel lobby lol.

  57. User avatar carri.schneider says:

    4 stars
This is a pretty fancy loaf for how easy it is. Also, greasing the pan matters—mine stuck a little until I let it cool fully. Pretty good with tea.

  58. User avatar alishia.langworth1961 says:

    4 stars
Lavender in bread feels kinda weird lol but i tried it. Surprisingly good—would recommend, just don’t overdo the lavender.

  59. User avatar luis.satterfield says:

    2 stars
Not bad, but the taste felt a bit muted to me—like it needed more lavender or maybe longer steeping. Also, 40-45 min was not enough in my oven.

  60. User avatar wellRespected says:

    4 stars
Pretty good, but 2 tbsp lavender feels like a lot for my taste. Next time I’ll use a little less or steep for fewer minutes. Texture was still lovely though.
