Grilled Beef and Broccoli Spears

June 13, 2024

There’s something incredibly satisfying about the smoky flavor that grilling brings to simple ingredients. This dish takes a familiar combination beef and broccoli,  and gives it a bold, summer-inspired twist. Think juicy, tender strips of marinated beef skewered alongside charred, slightly crispy broccoli spears. It’s a meal that feels hearty but fresh, perfect for warm evenings or laid-back gatherings.

Grilling broccoli might sound unusual if you’ve only had it steamed or stir-fried, but it completely changes the game. The florets get slightly crisp on the edges, while the stalks stay firm but tender. When paired with savory beef, the contrast in texture makes each bite interesting and satisfying. A simple marinade , maybe with garlic, soy sauce, and a hint of sesame, ties the two together and enhances that charred, umami-rich flavor.

This is one of those dishes that requires minimal effort but delivers big results. It’s easy to prepare ahead of time and works just as well for a weekday dinner as it does for a backyard BBQ. Serve it on skewers for a fun, casual presentation or arrange everything on a platter with rice or noodles for a complete meal.

Beef and broccoli might be a classic combo in many kitchens, but throwing them on the grill brings new life to both ingredients. It’s the kind of food that invites you to slow down, enjoy the outdoors, and savor flavors that feel both familiar and exciting. Grilled Beef and Broccoli Spears aren’t just a clever twist – they’re a celebration of simple ingredients done right.

Kind of obsessed with this. I used flank steak instead of sirloin and it still worked great on the grill. Super quick weeknight meal.

    1. User avatar Gaius Helen Mohiam says:

      5 stars
Yes!! Flank steak is a great swap—love that it still grills up fast. “Super quick weeknight meal” is exactly what I need. 🙌

  2. User avatar phyliss.kertzmann56 says:

    3 stars
Do I have to steam the broccoli? Can I just eat it raw? 🤷‍♂️

  3. User avatar Jenifer VonRueden says:

    2 stars
This is way too much garlic! I like garlic, but wow, I could barely taste the beef.

  4. User avatar Android 20 says:

    4 stars
Grilled beef? Broccoli? Yummy, but I substituted chicken and it was still delish.

  5. 2 stars
I’m not a grill master but i did my best. The beef got a little burnt :/

    1. User avatar santiago.ryan says:

      5 stars
Don’t worry! Even the pros burn stuff sometimes. Just try lowering the heat next time, it’ll be better! 😊

  6. User avatar erin.pouros says:

    5 stars
So simple and quick! I just grilled the broccoli too. Perfect for busy nights. Love it!

  7. 2 stars
This recipe is too complicated. I like simple stuff like burgers lol.

  8. User avatar trent.halvorson says:

    5 stars
So good! I added some chili flakes for a kick. Yum!

    1. 5 stars
I love the idea of adding chili flakes! It must’ve added some nice heat. I might try that next time!

    2. User avatar Chaurus Hunter says:

      3 stars
Sounds a bit spicy for me, I prefer it without anything extra. But hey, if you like it, go for it!

  9. User avatar olen.cartwright1980 says:

    3 stars
The beef was kinda tough, maybe I cooked it too long?

  10. User avatar abigail.nitzsche says:

    2 stars
I’m skeptical about grilling thin beef that quickly—2-3 minutes per side seems risky. Mine charred before it cooked through.

  11. User avatar Owen Money says:

    2 stars
Wasn’t a fan. The honey made it too sweet for my taste.

  12. User avatar Leigh Reichel says:

    5 stars
Made this tonight and it was surprisingly fast. The honey/soy combo on the beef is legit—really good flavor even without a bunch of extra stuff.

  13. User avatar jesus.jerde37 says:

    2 stars
Meh. Honey is okay but it made the sauce kinda sticky on my grill and I overcooked the beef. Also, I steamed the broccoli too long. Still ate it though lol.

  14. User avatar xavier.kuhlman2001 says:

    4 stars
Yummy, but I added some red pepper flakes for spice! Made it a whole lot better! 🔥

  15. 5 stars
Fantastic recipe! The flavors are just right. My family loved it.

I tried this recipe last night and my kids were actually asking for seconds! Thanks for sharing!

    2. User avatar ShanksOnePiece says:

      3 stars
Looks good, but I don’t think my kids would eat broccoli. Maybe I’ll just use frozen peas instead?

  16. User avatar cory.murphy55 says:

    3 stars
I don’t know. The sauce was too sweet for my taste. Maybe I added too much honey?

  17. User avatar vanesa.metz58 says:

    5 stars
This turned out way better than I expected. The honey + soy sauce combo is perfect, and the broccoli stayed crisp-tender. I’ll definitely make it again.

  18. User avatar larry.durgan22 says:

    2 stars
I tried this but ended up burning the beef on the grill. How do you even cook it that fast?

  19. User avatar vincent.dibbert21 says:

Doesn’t look like the picture, but it taste decent. I’ll take it.

Where’s the ginger? Everyone know it goes with beef! Disappointed.

  23. 3 stars
Not bad, but I feel like it needed more flavor. Maybe some spices?

  24. User avatar Carlos Torphy says:

    5 stars
This was so good! The flavors are amazing, and the beef was super tender. Definitely making it again!

  27. User avatar norbert.strosin says:

Not sure about this one. Beef was tough and broccoli didn’t taste like much. Disappointed.

    1. User avatar shayla.green73 says:

      4 stars
Sorry to hear that! Maybe try marinating the beef longer next time? It can really help with tenderness.

  28. User avatar jamey.hoppe73 says:

    5 stars
This was super tasty! The honey really made a difference. Will make again!

    1. User avatar Mrs. Raul Kuphal says:

      5 stars
I’m glad you liked it! The honey really does add a nice touch. Did you serve it with rice or something?

  29. User avatar bernardina.sipes51 says:

    2 stars
I tried this recipe and the beef came out too tough. Maybe my grill is too hot? Not sure, but I wasn’t impressed.

    1. 4 stars
I’m sorry to hear that! Maybe try adjusting the grill temperature next time and let the beef rest a bit after cooking? It can really help. Good luck!

  30. 3 stars
Gonna try this with shrimp instead of beef. Sounds good or nah?

  31. User avatar allyson.bins53 says:

    2 stars
I followed it and somehow the garlic burned? Like, the sauce got bitter. Maybe my grill was hotter than “medium-high.” I’ll try again but watch the heat.

  32. User avatar jeanette.anderson53 says:

    4 stars
Not gonna lie, I thought it would be bland. Turns out it’s not—salt/pepper + that sauce really pulls it together. Would recommend.

  33. User avatar Arwen Evenstar says:

    5 stars
This was fantastic! The beef was so tender and the flavors were amazing. Will definitely make again!

    1. 2 stars
It sounds good, but I don’t think beef on a grill is healthy. Just saying!

    2. 5 stars
I’m glad you loved it! The sauce really makes a difference, right?

  34. User avatar Shelia Stehr says:

    2 stars
Not sure if it’s worth the effort. Takes too long to prep.

  35. User avatar tiera.satterfield says:

    5 stars
Tasted great! But I added some chili flakes for a kick. Yum! 🌶️👍

  36. 1 star
Did I do something wrong?? Mine turned out so bad, my dog wouldn’t even eat it! 😩

  37. User avatar Analisa Hand Jr. says:

    4 stars
Grilled broccoli? Who does that?? I boiled mine instead. Still turned out decent, I guess.

  38. User avatar georgiana.beier54 says:

    2 stars
Meat was good, but my grill is old and made everything taste funny. 😩

  39. 2 stars
I followed it and it was kinda bland. I added extra pepper and a tiny splash of sesame oil at the end, and then it improved. Maybe my garlic was weaker than expected.

  40. User avatar lupe.gleichner says:

    5 stars
This was delicious! My family loved it and we will be making it again. Thanks!

  41. User avatar Emily Saunders says:

    5 stars
Yummm! Best thing I made this week. More recipes like this please!

  42. User avatar alexis.okon75 says:

    4 stars
The sauce is tasty, but I think it needs a pinch of red pepper flakes or ginger to really pop. Still, delicious overall.

    1. User avatar harlan.feest says:

      3 stars
Huh, I disagree a bit. I added ginger once to a soy-honey thing and it tasted kinda weird to me—like too sweet/spicy. Maybe just more garlic? Or more honey?

    2. User avatar hollie.ryan41 says:

      5 stars
Totally agree—this sauce is good as-is, but a pinch of red pepper flakes would definitely add some punch. I’ll try ginger next time too!

  43. User avatar alida.mitchell47 says:

    4 stars
This was super easy! Even my kids loved it.

    1. User avatar bud.fadel says:

      5 stars
That’s great to hear! I’m always looking for kid-friendly recipes. 😊

    2. 3 stars
Honestly, it was a bit bland for me. Maybe I needed to add more sauce??

  44. User avatar mitsuko.herzog81 says:

    4 stars
I didn’t have honey, so I used sugar. Still turned out good. Just saying!

  45. 4 stars
I used chicken instead of beef and it’s was still good. Easy swap!

  46. User avatar jackson.johns says:

    4 stars
Broccoli is 4 healthy, helped me stay fit and then got eaten. LOL.

  47. User avatar junie.koss96 says:

    5 stars
This recipe was amazing! The beef was so tender and the sauce had just the right kick. Will definitely make it again!

  48. User avatar micah.goyette2020 says:

This is a good option if you like healthy stuff but my husband prefers burgers. 😂

  49. User avatar liberal.hero says:

    5 stars
This recipe is awesome! My family loved it. Will definitely make it again!

  50. 3 stars
So easy to make even I can do it. Liked it, but my grill doesn’t work very well.

  51. 4 stars
Not gonna lie, I was skeptical about grilling such thin beef, but it cooked fast and stayed tender. I like that the broccoli stays crisp-tender instead of getting soggy.

  52. User avatar Lacy Olson says:

    5 stars
Amazing taste! Will make this again for sure.

  53. User avatar kaila.rolfson says:

    3 stars
This tasted salty to me even with “salt to taste.” I think the soy sauce was enough—maybe reduce soy to 1.5 tbsp or add a splash of water/extra honey. Otherwise pretty decent.

  54. User avatar lewis.bernier says:

    3 stars
Not bad, but the instructions are a bit confusing about steaming timing. I ended up microwaving the broccoli too long, so it got soft.

  55. User avatar Ozella Friesen says:

    3 stars
It was ok… but I think the honey was a bit too much for my taste. Could use less next time.

    1. User avatar Lunkwill and Fook says:

      4 stars
I agree, the honey can be overpowering sometimes. Maybe just a teaspoon next time? Otherwise, it was nice!

    2. User avatar eliseo.williamson2000 says:

      5 stars
What?! Honey makes it yummy! Maybe you just need to get used to it, buddy. This recipe is fire!

  56. User avatar wellRespected says:

Grilled beef and brocolli is my fav dinner. This recipe is great simplicity.

  57. User avatar jeni.kemmer says:

    4 stars
Wow, easy to make and delish! My kids actually ate broccoli for once! 😂

  58. User avatar warner.parisian43 says:

    5 stars
I added extra garlic and it was perfect. Yum!

  59. User avatar Gaius Helen Mohiam says:

    2 stars
Why would u grill it? Just fry it in a pan and save time! 🙄

  60. User avatar clementina.kiehn says:

    3 stars
Broccoli was too crunchy for my liking. Should’ve steamed it longer. My husband loved it tho.
    🤷‍♀️

    1. 3 stars
I didn’t find the broccoli too crunchy at all! But hey, everyone has their own taste. 🥦

    2. User avatar lavada.greenholt1977 says:

      4 stars
I get that! Sometimes you just prefer a softer texture. Maybe try blanching next time before grilling? 🤔

  61. 5 stars
    Delicious!

    1. User avatar lyle.anderson says:

      3 stars
Looks good, but I don’t get why you add honey. Isn’t it a bit weird for beef?

    2. User avatar anonymous_hacker says:

      5 stars
I can’t wait to try this! Sounds amazing!

  62. 3 stars
Just okay. My kids didn’t like it and it was a bit complicated for my taste.

  63. User avatar bernie.yundt36 says:

    4 stars
Grilled beef and broc is lit! Soy sauce mix was perf, adding this to my weekly meals. 👍

  64. 4 stars
Pretty good! I used flank steak instead of sirloin and it still worked. I think 2–3 minutes per side was a bit long for my slices though—next time I’ll watch it closer. Still flavorful.

  65. User avatar madelyn.pacocha45 says:

    4 stars
    Soo good!

    1. 3 stars
Sounds tasty but 2-3 min per side seems kinda fast for sirloin slices—mine usually needs a bit more. Still gonna try though.

    2. User avatar geoWizard says:

      5 stars
Right?! That garlic-soy-honey combo is 🔥. I did it last night and the beef stayed super tender.

  66. User avatar tajuana.bode28 says:

    2 stars
Grill marks look great, but I don’t get why you toss after cooking instead of grilling broccoli too. Also, 2 cups broccoli seems low for a whole pound of beef.

  67. User avatar violette.dare says:

    4 stars
Good quick weeknight idea. I sliced the beef a little thicker so I had to cook longer, but the sauce still clung nicely. Next time I’ll steam the broccoli just a minute less.

  68. User avatar caleb.shanahan says:

    3 stars
I dunno, it was okay. The beef was a bit tough for my taste.

  69. User avatar mao.schneider says:

    1 star
Honestly… meh. I think I’ll try the sauce on chicken instead. The broccoli was the only thing that tasted fresh.

    1. User avatar hwa.auer1980 says:

      3 stars
Fair point—broccoli can be the only consistently “fresh” tasting part if the cook time drags. Maybe steam it just a touch less and toss right away so it stays crisp-tender.

  70. User avatar waldo.larkin82 says:

    5 stars
Just tried it! Yum! Even my kids liked it. Thanks!

  71. User avatar vern.adams68 says:

Grilled beef and broccoli, mmm… my new favorite! 10 out of 10 😋

  72. User avatar laurena.price78 says:

    5 stars
This is the best thing I’ve ever eaten!!! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

  73. User avatar sana.abernathy says:

    4 stars
I didn’t have honey, so I used sugar. Still came out good! Not sure if that’s how it’s supposed to be tho.

  74. User avatar hugo.kulas81 says:

    5 stars
    5 stars!!! so good!!!

  75. User avatar odette.bernier1992 says:

    3 stars
The instructions are simple, but my sauce turned kinda thick/gel-y? maybe my honey was old or I whisked too hard lol. Tasted fine though, just not as glossy as I expected.

    1. User avatar collen.carter7 says:

      4 stars
That sounds like a honey/soy reduction happening too fast. If the sauce mixture sat on heat or you added more honey than the tbsp, it can get a bit gel-y. Next time try mixing off-heat and maybe add a tiny splash of water/extra oil to loosen it.

    2. User avatar CTRLplusW says:

      5 stars
Mine did that once cuz my honey was crystallized 😅 still tasted good tho. Also I think whisking doesn’t fix it, it’s more like the honey going thick. Did you let it cool before tossing? (or was it like super hot when you mixed it?)

  76. User avatar davis.kub39 says:

    3 stars
I followed it pretty closely, but I found the broccoli a little bland. Would’ve liked more sauce after tossing—maybe double it?

  77. 5 stars
Tried this tonight—super quick and the sauce is legit. The honey + soy combo clings to the beef nicely. I’d steam the broccoli a minute less next time so it stays extra crisp.

  78. 4 stars
I coudn’t find beef sirloin, so I used chicken. Still turned out good but might wanna update the recipe.

  79. 3 stars
This tasted good, but 2–3 minutes per side for thinly sliced sirloin felt a bit risky. Mine went closer to medium than medium-rare. Maybe depends on how thin your slices are.

  80. User avatar marcelino.ratke2 says:

    3 stars
The broccoli timing was confusing—“lightly steam” is kinda vague. Mine ended up too soft. Still tasty with the sauce though. Wish it had more guidance.

    1. User avatar eldon.anderson82 says:

      4 stars
Yeah I get what you mean—“lightly steam” is super vague. I usually steam mine like 2–3 minutes until they turn bright green but still snap when you poke them. Next time I’ll update the instructions with a time/temp.

  81. User avatar tissues_with_issues says:

    4 stars
Grilled the beef a bit too long, but the sauce was fire! 10/10 would recommend this

    1. 2 stars
10/10? Are you sure? I thought it was just alright, beef was kinda dry for me.

    2. User avatar joe_banana says:

      4 stars
Glad you loved the sauce! Just remember, sometimes a little overcooked beef can be juicy too if you slice it thin!

  82. 4 stars
Good flavor, but my beef overcooked fast at medium-high. Next time I’ll grill shorter or slice even thinner.

  83. User avatar ernesto.auer1975 says:

    5 stars
I tried this last night and it came out way better than I expected. The honey + soy combo is a total game changer, and the broccoli stayed crisp-tender instead of turning soggy. Will definitely make again.

    1. User avatar daren.bergstrom says:

      3 stars
Hmm I tried something similar but my sauce got super thick and kinda burnt on the grill, so I’m confused why yours didn’t. Did you brush it on at all or just toss at the end? Also I used light soy—maybe that changed it.

    2. User avatar Shadout Mapes says:

      5 stars
Yes!! I always worry broccoli will go limp on anything hot, so “crisp-tender” is music to my ears. The honey-soy balance is legit—adding this to my repeat list.

  84. User avatar NAFO.SUPREMACY says:

    4 stars
Not gonna lie, I was skeptical about grilling thinly sliced sirloin. Mine cooked fast (like 1-2 minutes per side) but it stayed juicy. Flavor is solid.

  85. User avatar King Daltus says:

    4 stars
I followed it pretty close, but my broccoli took longer than “crisp-tender” on the stove. Still tasty though—next time I’ll steam less and grill the broccoli briefly too.

  86. User avatar burl.armstrong62 says:

    2 stars
The flavor is okay, but it felt more like “stir-fry vibes” than a true grilled meal. Also, I had to add extra salt.

    1. User avatar lorita.mcclure1998 says:

      4 stars
Totally get that—this one’s more “grill + quick stir-toss” than like classic smoky grilled flavor. If it needed extra salt, your soy sauce might be less salty (or the beef/whatever size you sliced) so tweaking that is normal. Next time I’d either use low-sodium soy and then salt to taste, or cut back on extra salt if you’re already using a saltier soy sauce.
