Greek-style Grilled Prawns

June 13, 2024

If you’re in the mood for a light, refreshing, and flavorful seafood dish, Greek-style Grilled Prawns are the perfect choice. Infused with Mediterranean flavors, this dish combines succulent prawns with aromatic herbs, olive oil, garlic, and lemon, creating a deliciously balanced dish that’s perfect for summer meals, BBQs, or a light dinner.

The key to this recipe is the marinade. Fresh prawns are tossed in a mixture of extra virgin olive oil, garlic, fresh lemon juice, and a variety of Mediterranean herbs like oregano, thyme, and parsley. The tangy lemon and fragrant herbs beautifully complement the natural sweetness of the prawns, while the olive oil ensures that they stay juicy and tender on the grill. For extra depth, a touch of red wine vinegar or a pinch of chili flakes can be added for a slight zing or heat.

Once marinated, the prawns are grilled to perfection. The grilling process imparts a smoky char while sealing in the juices, creating a crispy exterior with a tender and juicy inside. They cook quickly, making this a fast and easy dish that’s ideal for busy weeknights or impromptu gatherings.

Greek-style Grilled Prawns can be served as an appetizer, a main dish, or alongside other Mediterranean favorites like tzatziki, grilled vegetables, or a Greek salad. You can also pair them with warm pita bread or couscous to create a complete Mediterranean-inspired meal.

This dish is not only light and healthy but also high in protein and omega-3 fatty acids, making it a nutritious option for seafood lovers. The combination of fresh ingredients and simple grilling makes it a perfect choice for anyone looking to enjoy the fresh, vibrant flavors of the Mediterranean in the comfort of their own home.

Looks good, but I wonder if the prawns can be too rubbery if grilled too long?

I tried this recipe but the prawns got a bit burnt on the grill. Maybe I left them too long? They still tasted ok, tho.

Meh. They’re shrimps not prawns! What’s up with that?

    1. User avatar rupert.mayert says:

      4 stars
I think they’re the same thing! Just different names based on where you are. Don’t let it ruin the recipe, it’s still gonna be delish! 😋

What if I don’t have skewers? Can I just grill the prawns directly? 🤔

I tried this last night and it was just okay. The prawns got a bit too tough on the grill, maybe I cooked them too long?

  10. 2 stars
was the olive oil really necessary? I mean, it’s just seafood, right?

  11. User avatar lenny.douglas88 says:

    2. 5 stars
I made these too and they were amazing! Best prawns I’ve ever had.

  13. User avatar sachiko.hickle22 says:

    3 stars
I think I had the wrong type of prawns. They came out kinda chewy. But the seasoning was good!

  14. 5 stars
Followed exactly, came out great! I used shrimp instead, still worked!

  15. User avatar liberal.hero says:

    3 stars
My prawns were kinda overcooked. Gotta pay more attention next time.

    1. User avatar shelton.bartell1983 says:

      4 stars
Yeah, overcooking prawns is easy to do! Just keep an eye on the time next time, and they’ll be perfect.

    2. 2 stars
Who even cares? They’re still prawns! I say just eat them anyway. 😂

  16. User avatar anonymous_hacker says:

    2 stars
Why do you need so many spices? The prawns taste good on their own without all this fuss.

    1. User avatar wilhelmina.jast says:

      3 stars
But like, spices make everything better! You gotta try it with the marinade first. You might change your mind.

    2. User avatar lisette.frami1964 says:

      4 stars
I totally get what you’re saying! Sometimes simplicity is best, but the spices can really enhance the flavors. It’s all about balance.

  18. 2 stars
Grilling prawns seems weird. Are they even healthy?

  19. User avatar ethyl.baumbach says:

    3 stars
Tastes good, but took too long to marinate. I’m too impatient for that.

  20. User avatar armando.herzog says:

    1 star
LOL why would anyone eat prawns? Just stick to chicken! 🤷‍♂️

    1. 5 stars
Prawns are amazing! You should give them a try, they’re way tastier than chicken! 🍤

    2. User avatar tom.dietrich15 says:

      2 stars
Yeah, but chicken is just so much easier to cook. Prawns can be tricky! 😕

Simple and delish! Perfect for a summer BBQ. 🌞

    1. User avatar ShanksOnePiece says:

  23. User avatar arron.kerluke says:

    2. User avatar MAGA2024.Trumpster says:

I dunno, seems like it would be bland without the lemon. But happy yours was okay!

  32. User avatar adell.stroman66 says:

    2 stars
I don’t understand why you need cumin? It was too strong for my taste.

    1. 4 stars
I get what you’re saying! Cumin can be a bit much for some people. You could try using less or even leaving it out next time.

  33. 2 stars
Too much cumin for my taste. Made it taste weird to me. Would try again with less spices.

  34. User avatar taryn.cormier says:

    2 stars

  43. User avatar steve.jakubowski2008 says:

    3 stars
Nice and juicy, but the kids wouldn’t eat them. They just wanna pizza!

  44. 2 stars

  57. 1 star
I don’t know why, but I thought it was shrimp. Aren’t they the same? lol

    1. 3 stars
Nah, shrimp and prawns are different! It’s like apples and oranges but under the sea. 😂

    2. 4 stars
Haha, they are similar but not the same! Prawns are larger and have a different taste. 🍤

  58. User avatar Arturo Wintheiser II says:

Not having all the spices? That’s like making tacos without seasoning. Still, happy it worked for you!
