Eggnog Pie

December 20, 2024

Eggnog pie is a holiday treat that combines the rich, spiced flavor of traditional eggnog with the creamy, smooth texture of a custard pie. This dessert is a festive twist on classic eggnog, offering all the warmth and comfort of the beloved seasonal drink in a delicious pie form. It’s perfect for holiday gatherings, family dinners, or even as a special dessert to enjoy on a cold winter’s night.

The crust is the first step in creating this indulgent pie. A buttery, flaky pie crust is typically used, though a graham cracker crust can be a great alternative for added sweetness and texture. Once the crust is baked and cooled, it’s ready to be filled with a rich, eggnog-flavored custard.

The filling is a silky blend of eggnog, eggs, sugar, and spices. Nutmeg, cinnamon, and vanilla extract bring the familiar holiday flavors to life, infusing the pie with the warm, aromatic taste that makes eggnog so comforting. The filling is gently whisked together and then poured into the prepared pie crust. As it bakes, the custard sets into a smooth, creamy consistency while maintaining a subtle jiggle at the center — the perfect texture for a pie.

After baking, the pie is allowed to cool completely, allowing the flavors to meld and the custard to firm up. To finish, a dusting of nutmeg on top adds a beautiful finishing touch and enhances the flavor, making it even more festive.

Eggnog pie is often served chilled, and it’s a perfect balance of creamy sweetness with just the right amount of spice. It’s a dessert that feels indulgent without being overly heavy, making it an excellent choice for holiday feasts or after a light dinner. If you love eggnog, this pie is an elevated way to enjoy its flavors in a new, exciting way. The combination of a creamy custard, flaky crust, and holiday spices makes eggnog pie a festive and unforgettable treat for any occasion.

  2. 3 stars
Yeah, this seems good enough. I mean, it’s pie, so how bad can it be?

  3. 2 stars
Too sweet for my taste! I don’t know how people enjoy this. Sorry!

    1. 4 stars
I get it! It is super sweet. Maybe try cutting down the sugar next time! 🍰

I totally agree! This pie is so good, I can’t stop thinking about it!

  5. User avatar Gurney Halleck says:

This is such a cozy idea. I like that the gelatin makes it set nicely instead of staying too loose like some eggnog desserts. Followed it pretty much exactly—perfect slice texture!

    1. User avatar Golden Chief Cylos says:

      5 stars
Yes! The gelatin really is the secret sauce here—love how it slices clean instead of turning into a spoonable mess. Glad you nailed the texture!

    2. User avatar Super Saiyan 2 Goku says:

      4 stars
I tried a similar thing once and it didn’t set at all, so I was skeptical about gelatin… but your comment makes me wanna retry. Did you use full-fat eggnog? (Also I always forget to chill long enough lol.)

  6. User avatar Margot Fenring says:

    5 stars
Best pie ever! I’m making it again, for sure.

Is eggnog really a good flavor for a pie? 😕 Seems kind of weird to me.

  9. User avatar mary.ebert79 says:

I thought gelatin was just for jello. Who knew you can use it in pie? 😂

I dunno… eggnog and pie? Sounds weird. Is it really that good? 🤔

  11. User avatar augustine.beier says:

    2 stars
Looks good but 2 hours feels too short. I’d say 4+ unless your fridge is ice cold.

  12. User avatar Arwen Evenstar says:

Can someone tell me if I can use almond milk instead of eggnog? My kid is allergic to eggs.

  13. User avatar nora.bruen50 says:

    2 stars
Followed the recipe exactly and it was a total flop. My pie didn’t set! What did I do wrong? 😩

  14. 1 star
Eggnog? I thought we only used that for drinks. This is strange.

Yum! Super tasty, but mine didn’t set properly. What did I do wrong?

  17. User avatar julienne.tromp says:

    2 stars
I forgot to add the sugar and it was still ok. Just a bit bland tho.

    1. 2 stars
But isn’t sugar like the main part of dessert? I can’t believe you forgot it and still liked it! Weird.

    2. User avatar marcelina.hirthe18 says:

      4 stars
Glad to hear it still turned out okay! I guess it just goes to show how adaptable recipes can be.

  18. 1 star
I dunno. Eggnog in pie form seems weird to me. Like you drink it, not pye it…

  19. User avatar Jacob Wyman says:

    3 stars
I used homemade graham crust and it got a bit soggy around the edges. Flavor was good, but presentation wasn’t great.

  20. User avatar efrain.jerde81 says:

    4 stars
Can’t believe how easy this is! I was expecting a disaster but it turned out great!

  21. 5 stars
Yum! This recipe is a winner. I used homemade eggnog and it was sooo good. The flavor is just right, not too sweet.

  22. User avatar carylon.wiegand says:

    2 stars
I made this and it set way too firm? Like sliceable but almost stiff. I might’ve used too much gelatin packet—though it was a full packet. Anyone else experience that?

  23. User avatar rhinoceros says:

    5 stars
This pie is DELICIOUS! Perfect for holiday gatherings. I added a little extra nutmeg for a spicier taste and it was a hit!

  24. User avatar oretha.reilly73 says:

    4 stars
Yummy! This was a hit at our family gathering. Everyone loved it, especially the kids!

  25. User avatar Ra'zhinda says:

    4 stars
Um… I’m confused why the whipping cream isn’t mixed into the filling. It’s good with topping, but I feel like it would be even better if it were folded in. Just my thought!

  26. User avatar eustolia.price1978 says:

    4 stars
I was really skeptical about this one, but it turned out pretty good! I might add more nutmeg next time.

  27. User avatar Deku Royalty says:

    4 stars
I was skeptical about using store-bought eggnog, but it actually worked really well. Mine needed a tiny bit more time in the fridge (more like 3 hours) to fully firm, but still delicious.

  28. User avatar Lumberjack says:

    3 stars
I thought gelatin was for jello! Why is it in a pie?

  29. User avatar Reg Nullify says:

    2 stars
I feel like the gelatin in this recipe kinda ruined it. It didn’t set right for me. Maybe I did something wrong?

  30. User avatar jinny.williamson50 says:

    5 stars
Yum!! Perfect for X-Mas. Will make it again! 🎄🥧

    1. 5 stars
Absolutely love eggnog pie! 🎉 It’s a family favorite during the holidays. Can’t wait to try this recipe!

    2. 2 stars
Sounds good, but I’ve heard eggnog can be kinda heavy. Not sure if I’d like it. 🤔

  31. User avatar byron.koelpin says:

    1 star
Whaat, no eggs in this pie? Isnt eggnog made from eggs? confused 🤔

    1. User avatar Joie Hagenes says:

      5 stars
I get your confusion! Eggnog does have eggs, but this pie is just using the flavor, no actual eggs. It’s delicious though! 😊

  32. User avatar Shadowfax says:

    5 stars
Delish! Easy to make and looks fancy! Great for holiday parties.

  33. 5 stars
This eggnog pie is sooo creamy and delicious! I loved it! 5 stars!

  34. User avatar tyrell.muller says:

    4 stars
My only worry is step 2—medium heat can curdle dairy if you get impatient. Stirring constantly like it says is key. Don’t multitask.

    1. User avatar marco.durgan1995 says:

      5 stars
Totally agree—medium heat is the sweet spot. I once turned it up “just a bit” and it got weirdly grainy. Stirring + simmering only is the way.

    2. User avatar gerardo.hyatt56 says:

      3 stars
I mean, I don’t always stir constantly lol. I simmered mine and it still turned out okay? Maybe my eggnog was thicker. But yeah don’t rush step 2 or it’ll be a mess.

  35. User avatar chris.windler98 says:

    1 star
I dont like eggnog so I think this pie is gross. Sorry not sorry.

  36. User avatar vennie.koelpin27 says:

    4 stars
Wonderful pie, but I ran out of whipped cream… aka worst day ever! 😩

  37. User avatar smartestRedditor says:

    5 stars
Made this for Christmas and it was honestly super smooth—no graininess at all. The nutmeg hits just right.

  38. User avatar Michaele Feest says:

    5 stars
This pie was a huge hit at our holiday party! So creamy and delicious!

    1. User avatar barton.veum61 says:

I’m so glad to hear that! This pie is always a winner at gatherings.

    2. User avatar Falmer Warmonger says:

      2 stars
Really? I don’t know, eggnog seems kinda weird for pie. Is it really that good?

  39. User avatar lianne.osinski39 says:

    5 stars
Eggnog in pie form? Yes please! Perfect for Christmas, I’m making it again!

    1. User avatar basementDweller says:

      3 stars
Sounds good, but isn’t eggnog kinda weird in pie form? I prefer it in a glass.

    2. User avatar maximo.veum3 says:

      5 stars
I made this last year and it was a hit! Everyone loved it. Perfect for the holidays!

  40. User avatar moses.stark10 says:

    3 stars
This recipe seems a bit too easy…Does it really taste good? I’m skeptical.

  41. User avatar zackary.ward75 says:

    2 stars
Why is there gelatin in a pie?? Isn’t that like… not pie?? 🤔

    1. User avatar adelia.leffler38 says:

      5 stars
Gelatin helps it set, that’s how some pies work! It’s still pie, just a different kind. 😊

  42. User avatar trudi.lesch97 says:

    5 stars
This pie is delicious!! A hit at our holiday party. Everyone loved it!

  43. User avatar ila.williamson says:

    4 stars
I tried a similar eggnog dessert once and it turned out too runny. But using a whole packet of gelatin makes me feel better about the “set” part.

  44. 2 stars
I made it but it didn’t set right, it was more like soup. What did I do wrong? 😩

    1. User avatar Paris Hettinger says:

      4 stars
It sounds like you might not have let it cool enough before putting it in the fridge! That happened to me too once. Just keep an eye on the gelatin next time.

  45. User avatar Hwi Noree says:

    4 stars
The graham cracker crust made it taste even better. I added a bit of cinnamon on top instead of nutmeg, let me tell you!

  46. User avatar Ice Wolf says:

    3 stars
Wait—1 cup eggnog to 1 packet gelatin? That’s actually a lot of thickener. I’m curious if it’ll taste a bit rubbery or if the whipped cream fixes it.

  47. User avatar doug.larkin2015 says:

    5 stars
This pie is super easy to make and tastes delicious! I brought it to a holiday gathering and it was a hit! 🌟

  48. User avatar andrea.weber55 says:

    2 stars
I don’t know… it kinda tasted weird to me. Shouldn’t it be sweeter?

    1. User avatar ali.buckridge1954 says:

      4 stars
I think it’s sweetened just right! Maybe you could add a bit more sugar if you prefer it sweeter.

  49. User avatar Super Saiyan Goten says:

    2 stars
Not sure I trust gelatin in eggnog pie… feels weird, like jello cosplay. But yeah, it did firm up.

  50. User avatar lorena.lesch99 says:

    4 stars
I was a little skeptical about using store-bought eggnog, but it worked. Set up nicely after about 2.5 hours in my fridge.

    1. 5 stars
Honestly same—I was worried store-bought eggnog would taste “watery,” but your timing check makes me feel better. 2.5 hours in the fridge is noted!

  51. User avatar fidelia.jones2007 says:

    2 stars
I don’t like eggnog, but I gave this a try. It was too sweet for my taste.

  52. User avatar jackeline.thompson says:

    4 stars
The recipe was easy to follow, but I think it would be better with some rum added. Just my opinion.

  53. User avatar Android 17 says:

    4 stars
I tried this and followed the steps exactly. The gelatin step was tricky—if you don’t let it stand first it clumps. Also, I added a little extra nutmeg because I like it strong. Came out great.

  54. User avatar elois.sipes says:

    3 stars
I dunno, the gelatin kinda weirds me out. Can I just use cornstarch instead? Anyone tried that?

    1. User avatar hui.sporer says:

      4 stars
I wouldn’t recommend cornstarch, it won’t set like gelatin. Just give it a shot with the gelatin! It’s worth it for the texture.

  55. User avatar mathWizard says:

    5 stars
Followed the steps exactly and let it chill longer than 2 hours (like 4), and it came out smooth. Tastes like classic eggnog but in pie form. Love it.

  56. User avatar floy.watsica33 says:

    1 star
Didnt turn out right. It was runny! Maybe I mixed it wrong?

  57. 3 stars
Looks easy but I messed up and spilled eggnog everywhere. My fault lol. Will try again though.

    1. User avatar mariko.rutherford63 says:

      5 stars
Ahh no worries 😄 eggnog is basically liquid chaos anyway. Just chill it longer if it seems a bit loose and it should set up fine—good luck on round two!

  58. User avatar yong.osinski says:

    5 stars
I was nervous about gelatin in pie form, but it came together. I let it cool more than “slightly” and that probably helped—no lumps at all. Would make again.

  59. User avatar rich.landlord says:

    4 stars
I’m not gonna lie, I was skeptical about using a packet of gelatin, but it actually worked. Mine was a tiny bit firmer than eggnog but still really tasty.

  60. User avatar milford.marvin39 says:

    4 stars
Can I use homemade eggnog? Would it change the taste?

  61. User avatar ernest.kuhn37 says:

    4 stars
4 star! But do I really need gelatine? What if I just skip it? Thnx.

  62. 3 stars
Quick question: do you really need to heat it to a simmer? I tried low heat and the gelatin was kind of clumpy—had to whisk harder.

    1. User avatar lillia.miller39 says:

      5 stars
Yeah, you basically do need a simmer—just not a rolling boil. Gelatin dissolves best once the mixture is warm and you can keep it moving while it melts. If it was clumpy at low heat, it likely didn’t fully dissolve before chilling.

    2. User avatar Gerardo Larkin PhD says:

      4 stars
I think you can go lower, but you still gotta get it warm enough. If the gelatin was “kind of clumpy,” I’d whisk a bit longer after it hits the hot eggnog. Also, make sure you sprinkle the gelatin evenly over the cold water (no big clumps), then let it sit the full minute.

  63. User avatar Arthur Philip Deodat says:

    4 stars
Pretty good, but I think it could use a pinch more nutmeg. Mine tasted a little mild even after topping. Still, the texture was smooth and the gelatin worked really well.

  64. User avatar tami.hamill says:

    3 stars
I don’t really like eggnog that much, but this was still pretty good. Missing some flavor tho.

  65. User avatar alicia.krajcik1956 says:

    3 stars
I used homemade crust (because I’m stubborn) and the gelatin didn’t dissolve right at first. After I gave it another stir it was fine, but it took longer than the recipe says.

  66. User avatar stefan.beier73 says:

    4 stars
Super easy to make! Even my kids loved it. Will definitely make it again!

    1. 5 stars
I’m glad to hear your kids enjoyed it! I might try this next holiday. How long did it take you to make?

  67. User avatar trinity.mueller says:

    4 stars
I am not a fan of eggnog at all, but my family loved it. They devoured the whole pie in one sitting!

  68. User avatar pasquale.jenkins29 says:

    1 star
Hate eggnog! This dessert was not for me at all. Sorry, but no thanks!

  69. User avatar Earleen Schneider says:

    3 stars
Followed the steps exactly, but mine didn’t set until I left it overnight. Still tasty though—just needed more time.

  70. 2 stars
One cup eggnog + half cup sugar feels too sweet. I’ll cut the sugar next time. Topping helped but I’m not sure I’d make it again.

  71. User avatar shaun.oconner says:

    5 stars
Just made this for Christmas, and everybody loved it! Will definitely make again!

  72. User avatar miriam.cummings4 says:

    5 stars
So yummy! I used a different crust, didn’t have graham crackers. Still turned out fluffy!

    1. 5 stars
That’s awesome! I’m glad it turned out fluffy even without the graham cracker crust. What crust did you use?

    2. User avatar Ilban Richese says:

      2 stars
I don’t think a different crust would work as well… the graham is key! But, good for you for trying something new.

  73. User avatar jessia.feest53 says:

    5 stars
This sounds like the exact kind of creamy, cozy pie I want around the holidays. Nutmeg + eggnog is a win, and the gelatin step seems foolproof.

    1. User avatar donovan.weber says:

      5 stars
Omg yes—eggnog pie is such a holiday vibe. The gelatin step actually makes sense to me, like no weird curdling, just that creamy set. I’m trying this for sure.

    2. User avatar blaine.nikolaus1969 says:

      3 stars
I’m not 100% sold on cooking eggnog with nutmeg and then adding gelatin—eggnog can get kinda funny when heated. But if you stir constantly and don’t boil, maybe it works. Might still try it tho 😅

  74. 3 stars
I really wanted to love this recipe, but the texture was kind of off for me. Maybe I did something wrong? 🤔

  75. 3 stars
Ok pie, but where’s the rum? 🤷‍♂️ Just seems incomplete.

    1. 5 stars
I totally agree! Rum would kick this pie up a notch. Can’t believe they missed it! 🍹

    2. 2 stars
Why even bother with rums? Eggnog pie is fine as is! Some people just want booze in everything.

  76. 3 stars
Why not just chill it without gelatin? Like eggnog is already thick-ish. Might be fine, but I guess gelatin makes it firmer.

  77. User avatar emiko.kautzer77 says:

    2 stars
Not worth it. Gelatin just feels weird. I prefer regular pie.

    1. 4 stars
I disagree! I love the texture of gelatin in desserts. It makes it fun and unique!

    2. 2 stars
Seems like its just another weird recipe. Regular pie is way better.

  78. User avatar shawnda.tremblay2001 says:

    4 stars
Nutmeg is strong, so if you’re sensitive maybe use less. I did 1/4 tsp and it was perfect for me. Whipped cream on top made it feel fancy.

    1. User avatar scorpion says:

      5 stars
Totally agree—nutmeg can go from “warm” to “cough syrup” real fast 😅 I’m usually sensitive too, so I do like 1/8 tsp and it still tastes great. That whipped cream topping really sells it.

  79. User avatar smartestRedditor says:

    1 star
I tried making it but forgot the sugar. It was a disaster. Now I have a weird eggnog pudding instead of pie.

    1. User avatar dave.ebert10 says:

      3 stars
Lol! That sucks! But honestly, eggnog pudding might be tasty! Just add some whipped cream and call it a mashup.

    2. User avatar Peregrin Took says:

      4 stars
Oh no! I can totally relate to the disaster. I once made a cake and forgot the eggs! Eggnog pudding doesn’t sound too bad though, just call it a new dessert!

  80. User avatar elisha.nitzsche67 says:

    4 stars
The texture is great, but I think next time I’ll reduce the sugar a tiny bit. Eggnog is already sweet in my opinion.

    1. 3 stars
Hmm maybe, but I don’t know—1/2 cup seems right to me. My pie always needs the sugar or it tastes kinda bland. Next time could try like half a spoon less, not “tiny” or it might not set right? 🤷‍♂️

    2. User avatar santo.labadie24 says:

      5 stars
Totally agree—eggnog can be plenty sweet on its own. I’d cut the sugar a little too, especially if your eggnog is already on the sweeter side. Texture’s the star here though!

  81. User avatar Corey Hagenes says:

    3 stars
This tastes like eggnog. Like… no surprise. I’m not mad. It’s just kinda straightforward, but the graham crust balances it nicely.

Totally get what you mean—it’s basically eggnog in pie form, but that graham crust makes it feel less like straight holiday cream. I made it once and the nutmeg really tied everything together.

I think I simmered too aggressively—my mixture looked slightly grainy for a minute—so I panicked and stirred more. It still tasted fine, but not as silky as I hoped.

Ugh, that grainy moment sounds stressful—been there. From what you described, it *may* have been the gelatin just not fully dissolving before you over-handled it. Next time, keep the heat on the gentlest simmer and don’t go wild with stirring; once the gelatin is fully melted, it usually smooths out as it cools.

This tastes like holiday milk. My kids asked for seconds lol. Definitely a keeper.

Maybe I’m doing something wrong, but mine tasted kinda bland and not super “eggnoggy.” I used homemade eggnog and it didn’t set as firm—next time I’ll try store-bought and measure the gelatin right.

Right?? I swear it’s like holiday milk vibes but in pie form 😄. I’m making this again for sure—my family went back for seconds too.

I followed this recipe and it turned out great! The cream on top makes it look fancy! 🍰👌

Gelatin in eggnog pie sounds kinda gross to me, ngl. I tried it and the flavor was fine, but the texture was like a softer pudding than I expected.

Honestly… 2 tablespoons cold water for a whole packet gelatin feels like not enough? Mine firmed up kinda softly. Still good, just not sliceable like a pie should be.

The ingredient list is super short, which I love. No eggs to temper, no baking—just simmer and chill. Perfect for lazy holiday cooking.

Honestly it does sound easy—eggnog, sugar, nutmeg, and gelatin and you’re basically there. I’m making this tonight 😄

I tried it with homemade eggnog and it turned out a little too sweet and thick. Store-bought really is the move for consistency, like they said.

This is such a cozy holiday vibe. I used store-bought eggnog like the recipe says and it set perfectly after a couple hours. Nutmeg on top is a must—makes it taste like dessert at a nice bakery.

Totally agree—this really nails the cozy holiday dessert feel. I also used store-bought eggnog and mine set in about the same time. The nutmeg really makes it taste “bakery” level.
