Pecan Pie

November 17, 2023

Pecan pie is a beloved dessert that has gained immense popularity over the years. It is a staple in American cuisine, especially during the holiday season. This classic pie has a rich flavor and a delightful combination of sweetness and nuttiness, which makes it a favorite among dessert lovers.

Pecan pie is a rich, sweet, and utterly indulgent dessert that has become a beloved classic, especially during the fall and winter holiday seasons. Known for its buttery, flaky crust and a gooey filling loaded with toasted pecans, this Southern staple brings warmth and nostalgia to any table.

What makes pecan pie truly special is its contrast in textures and deep, caramelized flavor. The filling, typically made with a mixture of corn syrup, brown sugar, butter, and eggs, turns silky and custard-like once baked. As it sets, the pecans rise to the top, creating a toasted, crunchy layer that perfectly complements the smooth interior. Some recipes call for a splash of vanilla, a pinch of salt, or even a shot of bourbon to elevate the flavor, adding a subtle complexity without overpowering the pie’s signature sweetness.

While Pecan Pie is undeniably delicious, it is important to note that it is not the healthiest dessert option. The pie’s primary ingredient, pecans, provides several health benefits. They are a good source of healthy fats, fiber, and various vitamins and minerals.

However, it is worth mentioning that Pecan Pie is also made with sugar and butter, which contribute to its rich and decadent taste but also increase its calorie and fat content. Therefore, enjoying Pecan Pie should be treated as an indulgence rather than a regular part of a healthy diet.

Nevertheless, moderation is key, and enjoying a slice of this delectable pie occasionally can be a delightful treat.

I think the recipe’s missing a step? My filling wasn’t as thick as I expected. Maybe I cooked it too long?

    1. User avatar eladia.friesen68 says:

      4 stars
I had the same problem! I think the filling needs to cook a bit longer to get thick. Maybe try a little more butter next time?

But the recipe says whipped cream or ice cream too… Just read it again!

  26. 2 stars

    1. 2 stars
Bland?! You must have done something wrong. This pie is super sweet on its own! 🤷‍♂️

    2. User avatar simon.nader82 says:

    1. User avatar anonymous_hacker says:

    2. User avatar alanna.mann says:

      4 stars
I totally agree, I always struggle with pie crusts too! Store-bought is definitely the way to go for most people. This recipe is too complicated for me. 🤷‍♀️

Whose idea was it to put corn syrup in pie? I didn’t like this version. 1 star.

  33. User avatar marget.schumm says:

    4 stars
Not too sweet, just right! I added a pinch of salt and used toasted pecans. Turned out great!

    1. 2 stars
I don’t think adding salt is a good idea… It’s supposed to be sweet! Anyway, I hope my pie turns out better without it.

    2. User avatar criselda.kerluke86 says:

      5 stars
That sounds delicious! The pinch of salt must really enhance the flavors. I usually go for walnuts, but pecans are definitely the way to go!

  34. User avatar delmer.kling says:

    3 stars

    2. 3 stars
Looks good, but can I substitute the pecans with walnuts? I’m not a big fan of pecans.

  40. 2 stars
I think you forgot to mention baking time. I burned mine because I didn’t know how long!

    1. User avatar armadillo says:

      3 stars
Baking times are usually important, huh? But I just eyeball everything. Maybe you just had your oven too hot? 😅

    2. User avatar calista.predovic says:

      5 stars
Thanks for pointing that out! I usually keep a timer, but I guess it’s easy to forget. I hope you can try it again without burning!

  41. User avatar anonymous_hacker says:

    1. User avatar mafalda.koss24 says:

I dunno, I tried making pecan pie once but it was all gooey and burnt! 🤔 Maybe I did something wrong?

  52. User avatar rachelle.parisian says:

    3 stars
It was ok, but I don’t think the corn syrup is necessary. There has to be a healthier option. My grandma made it with maple syrup instead.

    1. 2 stars
I dunno, corn syrup kinda makes it sweet n gooey, which is what pie needs, right? Not sure about swapping it out.

    2. User avatar gail.jaskolski1977 says:

      5 stars
I totally agree! Maple syrup would make it so much tastier and healthier. You go, grandma! 🍁

  53. User avatar antonetta.orn29 says:

    5 stars
I made this for Thanksgiving and it was gone in minutes!

  54. 3 stars
