Cream of asparagus soup is the kind of dish that proves elegance doesn’t have to be complicated. Velvety, fresh, and full of delicate flavor, it’s a celebration of spring’s most beloved vegetable, though its comforting warmth makes it just as enjoyable any time of year. With its pale green hue and silky-smooth texture, this soup feels refined enough for a dinner party yet simple enough to whip up for a cozy weeknight meal.
The beauty of cream of asparagus soup lies in its simplicity. At its core, it’s a blend of tender asparagus, sautéed aromatics like onion or leek, and a splash of cream to bring everything together. The flavor is light and grassy with a subtle sweetness, perfectly capturing the essence of fresh asparagus. A swirl of cream, a sprinkle of herbs, or a drizzle of good olive oil on top turns it from everyday comfort food into something worthy of a restaurant menu.
What makes this soup particularly special is its versatility. It’s delicious served warm with crusty bread on a chilly evening, but it’s equally refreshing served chilled as a starter in warmer weather. You can keep it classic with just a hint of lemon for brightness, or elevate it with additions like Parmesan, garlic, or a touch of white wine for depth. A garnish of crispy homemade croutons, toasted nuts, or shaved asparagus tips adds a little texture and makes each bowl feel extra special.
Beyond its flavor, cream of asparagus soup is also nourishing and wholesome. Asparagus is packed with vitamins, antioxidants, and fiber, so this dish is as good for you as it is delicious. It’s a lovely way to highlight seasonal produce and a perfect example of how a few simple ingredients can come together to create something comforting and elegant. Whether you serve it as a light lunch, a starter before a spring dinner, or a soothing bowl on a rainy day, cream of asparagus soup is a timeless classic that always feels fresh, refined, and deeply satisfying.

Tried it and I gotta say, it was just ok. Needed more flavor.. maybe some spices? 🤷♂️
I totally get what you mean! I added some red pepper flakes and it really boosted the flavor! 🌶️
Why would anyone make soup like this? Asparagus is for salads, not soup!
I actually love asparagus soup! It’s creamy and delish! Give it a try before judging! 🌟
This soup was amazing! So creamy and delicious. Perfect for a chilly day! 🌿
Looks fancy but I dunno if my family would like it. They only eat chicken noodle…
I tried this soup too! It was sooo good! It really warms you up. 💖
Super simple to make, but I added cayenne pepper for a kick! Yum! 🔥
Isn’t asparagus too much work? I mean, peeling n stuff. Not for me!
OMG i lov it, best soup evr!! I add croutons on top, delish!
Yay! Croutons sound like a great idea! I’m definitely trying that next time. 🥳
I didn’t have heavy cream so I used skim milk and it turned out awful. Really need the cream, I guess.
Made this last night—so silky! I used vegetable broth and it still tasted rich. The immersion blender step is key.
The asparagus flavor comes through nicely. I simmered a tiny bit longer because my spears were thick, but it worked out.
Never tried asparagus before, but this was great! I didn’t even use cream, just some milk and it worked.
I wasn’t a fan. It was way too rich for my taste. I prefer my soup lighter.
I absolutely loved this recipe! The richness is what makes it so comforting, but I get that it’s not for everyone.
Ok wow… asparagus soup?? I never would’ve tried it, but it’s actually really good. Quick question: do you have to boil the broth part or can you simmer from the start?
Thanks! I usually bring it to a boil first (just to get it started) then immediately turn it down to a simmer—Step 4 does that. You can probably simmer from the start too, but it’ll just take a bit longer for the asparagus to get tender.
I’d say simmer from the start, honestly. Boiling cream stuff too hard can make it taste weird. Also, don’t blend it too hot—kinda splooshy. 😅
I’m skeptical about blending everything until smooth—like, asparagus has such a strong vibe. But honestly, it mellowed out nicely. I topped with roasted asparagus tips and it looked fancy.
This soup is fabulous! So creamy and delicious. I added a bit of lemon juice for a zing. Will make again!
The flavor is good, but I think I over-simmered—my asparagus got a little mushy. Still tasty though, and the garlic/onion base is on point.
Wow wow wow, I didn’t expect it to be this good! Perfect for the springtime! 🌱
This soup is incredible! I never knew asparagus could taste this good. So creamy!
Yummy! 🥰 Perfect with some crusty bread on the side!
Tasty and simple! I used veggie broth and it was still delicious. Will make again!
I think creemes aren’t good for my tummy. Maybe leafy greens would be better?
Wasn’t a fan, kinda bland. Just tasted like hot cream. Maybe I need more practice with soups.
I think it might be the broth you used. Try a homemade one next time for more flavor! 😋
Really easy recipe but it came out too bland for me. Had to add extra spices.
This is the best soup I have ever made! Wow!
Totally agree! I made this too and it was a hit with my family. So creamy!
Simple recipie but didn’t turn out nice, think I added too much cream…ew.
I totally get it! Too much cream can really mess up the flavor. Did you try balancing it with more broth?
Lol, ew! I hate when that happens. Just think of it as a creamy disaster. Next time, less cream!
Made this last night—super creamy without being heavy. I used vegetable broth and it still tasted rich. The asparagus flavor really comes through!
Super easy recipe! My kids loved it. Used frozen asparagus instead, still turned out good!
Okay, but where’s the spice? I feel like it needed something extra, like red pepper or herbs.
I agree! A little kick would make this soup way better! Maybe even a pinch of cayenne? 🌶️
Is it really cream of asparagus if there ain’t any asparagus in it? I just don’t get it. 🤷♂️
Wait, can you use frozen asparagus? I don’t like fresh ’cause tastes weird.
I can’t believe it took 15 minutes to cook the asparagus. Mine was mushy and not tasty. Need better tips!
I always cook asparagus for like 30 min! That’s why my soup’s so good 😁
Maybe you overcooked it? 15 mins should be fine. Try checking if it’s fork-tender next time!
I thought it was too thick. Maybe I added too much cream? Not sure.
This is a fancy restaurant vibe for something so simple. My whole family asked for seconds.
Seriously—this tastes like it came from a restaurant. I made it for my family and everyone went back for seconds too 😂 The immersion blender makes it super smooth.
I’m not usually a soup person, but this was easy and felt fancy. Next time I’ll add a pinch of nutmeg or lemon zest because it needs a little brightness.
Totally agree—this feels “fancy” with basically no effort. I also added a tiny squeeze of lemon at the end and it made a big difference.
This is fine but kind of bland unless you really salt it. I followed the recipe exactly and my first bowl tasted like, well, boiled vegetables with cream. Adding more pepper and a squeeze of lemon made it better.
Made this for a dinner party and everyone loved it! So elegant yet easy to make.
I’m glad everyone enjoyed it! It’s such a simple yet impressive dish. I’ll have to try making it for my next gathering.
This soup is so creamy and delicious! I love the flavor of asparagus. Will make again!
My blender broke, so I had to mash it. Still tasted good! Just a bit chunky.
This is comfort food. My husband asked for seconds (rare). I garnished with the tips and a tiny swirl of cream and it looked restaurant-y.
Couldn’t get mine to be “smooth smooth.” Even after blending it had tiny bits, maybe because my asparagus wasn’t fully tender. Also, I burned the onion a little because I got distracted 😅
Ahh that “smooth smooth” goal is so real 😅 Tiny bits usually mean the asparagus still had a little chew—next time I’d simmer a few extra minutes or just blend longer. Also burning the onion happens… but it still adds a kinda toasty flavor if it’s not too bitter!
I dunno, I follow it and mine was never perfectly smooth either. Maybe cuz immersion blenders are weak? I just eat the tiny bits lol. Burnt onion sounds bad though—could make it taste bitter.
1 pound asparagus doesn’t feel like enough for 4 cups broth? Mine was more like a light green soup than a thick cream of asparagus. Tasty, but I’d double asparagus next time.
