Air Fryer Carrots

September 16, 2025

Air fryer carrots are a wonderful example of how a simple vegetable can be transformed into something truly irresistible. With just the right touch of heat and air circulation, the carrots develop a caramelized exterior while remaining tender on the inside, creating a snack or side dish that feels both wholesome and indulgent. Their natural sweetness intensifies in the air fryer, making them flavorful enough to enjoy on their own, yet versatile enough to pair with almost any main course.

What makes air fryer carrots so appealing is their texture. Unlike boiling or steaming, which can sometimes leave carrots too soft, the air fryer gives them a slightly crisp edge while preserving their natural juiciness. The result is a satisfying bite that strikes the perfect balance between tender and firm. A simple seasoning of olive oil, salt, and pepper enhances their flavor, while additions like garlic powder, smoked paprika, or cumin can introduce a new layer of depth.

The flavors can also be tailored to the occasion. For a savory twist, carrots can be finished with fresh herbs like rosemary or thyme, which release their aroma as the carrots cook. For a sweeter variation, a drizzle of honey or maple syrup before air frying accentuates their natural sugars and creates a glaze-like finish. Either approach yields a dish that’s comforting, colorful, and packed with flavor.

Air fryer carrots are also incredibly versatile in how they’re served. They work beautifully as a quick side dish for roasted meats, fish, or plant-based proteins, adding both color and nutrition to the plate. They can also be tossed into salads, grain bowls, or wraps for a boost of sweetness and texture. For casual snacking, they’re just as enjoyable served warm with a dipping sauce like tahini, yogurt-based dressing, or spicy aioli.

Beyond their taste, air fryer carrots offer the convenience of quick cooking and minimal cleanup, making them ideal for busy weeknights. They are proof that healthy, vibrant food can be both easy and deeply satisfying. With their caramelized edges, tender centers, and endless flavor possibilities, air fryer carrots are a simple dish that brings joy to the table every time.

My kids loved them! Even my picky eater ate them up. Will definitely make again.

I don’t think air frying does anythn good. Just roast them in oven, much better.

    1. 4 stars
I totally get what you’re saying! But I’ve found air frying gives a nice texture that roasting doesn’t. Maybe give it a shot?

  6. User avatar keenan.ferry says:

    5 stars
Simple and quick! I added some honey for a glaze and it was yum! 🙂

  7. 2 stars
Carrots? Why just carrots? Why not mix in some potatoes or something to make it more interesting?

  8. 5 stars
I always thought air fryers were a scam, but these carrots convinced me otherwise!

    1. 5 stars
I completely agree! Air fryers can actually make veggies taste so much better. These carrots were a game changer for me too!

Too much garlic powder. Next time, I’ll use less.

I didn’t have thyme, so I used oregano instead. Wasn’t sure but they still were good!

  18. User avatar Max Quordlepleen says:

Used sweet potatoes instead. They came out tasty too! 🙂

  19. User avatar jesus.carroll says:

Great recipe! I didn’t have thyme, but still turned out great!

  22. User avatar Barry Manilow says:

Why do they have to be so long? Cut them shorter next time, please.

    1. User avatar edris.johnson58 says:

      3 stars
I dunno, but I think the length doesn’t really matter. They still taste good! Just cut em how you want.

    2. User avatar Dr. Janise Reilly says:

      4 stars
I kinda like them long, just makes them look fancy! But I guess shorter might be easier to eat? 🤷‍♀️

  23. User avatar Ilban Richese says:

    4 stars
Yummy! Just wish I had more garlic powder!

  24. 3 stars
I followed it exactly and they were bland until I added more salt after cooking. Also, my air fryer runs hot I guess, because 15 minutes already looked done.

  25. User avatar synthia.schaden52 says:

    1 star
Carrots in an air fryer? Ain’t that just a lil too fancy? I just boil mine lol.

    1. 2 stars
I dunno, sounds kinda extra to me. Boiling is way easier, plus who has air fryer energy all the time?

    2. User avatar markus.lueilwitz2022 says:

      5 stars
I actually tried it and they come out sooo good! I think you should give it a shot!

    1. User avatar ericka.kessler59 says:

      3 stars
Sounds good, but aren’t carrots mostly water? How can they be crunchy? 🤔

    2. User avatar star.mcdermott92 says:

      5 stars
I totally agree! Air fryers are a game changer for veggies! The crunch is the best part!

  27. 1 star
    Carrots? Who eats carrots? Lol.

  28. User avatar romana.pfannerstill says:

    5 stars
Soooo good! I added some paprika because why not? Great flavor!

    1. User avatar alita.spencer2020 says:

      4 stars
Paprika? That sounds interesting! I might try that next time. Thanks for the tip!

    2. User avatar Saruman the White says:

      2 stars
Why would you mess with a good recipe? Carrots are fine without all that extra stuff.

  29. 5 stars
Yum! I added honey and they were sweet AND savory. 🥕🍯

    1. 5 stars
That sounds delicious! Honey is such a good idea, I never thought to add that to carrots. I’m definitely trying this next time!

    2. User avatar vickie.blick2009 says:

      2 stars
Sweet and savory? Really? Not sure about that combo. Carrots are just supposed to be crunchy, right?

  30. 4 stars
My friend told me about garlic. It was a good tip 👍

  31. 2 stars
1 teaspoon salt to taste? That’s not really clear—ended up too salty for me. Other than that, simple and fast.

  32. 5 stars
So easy, even my dad could make this! 10/10 will make again.

  33. User avatar Queenie Haag says:

    2 stars
I followed the recipe, but my carrots turned out mushy. 🤔

    1. User avatar heide.donnelly1973 says:

      4 stars
Maybe you cooked them too long? I always check them before the timer goes off.

    2. User avatar shani.weissnat2016 says:

      3 stars
Mushy carrots? That’s weird. I never had that problem. Did you really use an air fryer like it says?

  34. User avatar stuart.batz90 says:

    3 stars
I tried this recipe, but my carrots were mushy. Should I have taken them out sooner? 🤔

  35. 3 stars
Mine stuck a little to the basket even though I used oil. Maybe I should’ve lined it or used more oil. Taste was still okay.

  36. 3 stars
I followed it exactly, but mine were kinda soft after 15 min—maybe my air fryer runs cooler. 20 min worked better for me.

  37. User avatar joey.veum1977 says:

    2 stars
I don’t have an air fryer, can I bake these instead?

  38. User avatar dustin.kshlerin says:

    3 stars
I didn’t have dried thyme, so I used Italian seasoning. It tasted okay, but not as “fresh” as I thought it would.

    1. User avatar jude.jast85 says:

      4 stars
That makes sense—Italian seasoning usually has a mix of herbs and sometimes oregano/basil, so it can come off less “green” than thyme. Next time you could try a pinch of dried rosemary or even a little lemon zest to perk it up.

    2. 2 stars
Hmm maybe just add more garlic powder? I always use Italian seasoning and it’s basically the same thing to me lol. Still, air fryer carrots already come out sweet, so maybe you needed less salt too.

  39. User avatar sharonda.mosciski1957 says:

    5 stars
These carrots turned out amazing! So crispy and flavorful. I added some paprika for a kick.

  40. 4 stars
Yummy! I added some parmesan cheese and it was a hit!

  41. User avatar jeromy.prosacco26 says:

    1 star
Air fryer is just a glorified toaster oven.

  42. User avatar Draugr Overlord says:

    4 stars
Pretty simple and really tasty! My kids loved them.

  43. 5 stars
These are so good! My kids loved them!

  44. User avatar nickolas.bartell0 says:

    4 stars
No time for preheating! I just threw them in and it worked. #lazycook

  45. User avatar nelia.yost55 says:

    4 stars
Honestly… carrots in an air fryer feel like cheating 😂 But they did come out tender with a little bite. Next time I’ll use less salt.

  46. 4 stars
Soo easy! I added a little honey for sweetness. Yum!

  47. User avatar Humma Kavula says:

    4 stars
This is the simplest recipe I’ve seen. Thanks!

    1. User avatar kirby.fadel31 says:

      5 stars
No problem! I love easy recipes too 🙂

  48. 4 stars
I was skeptical but my kids actually ate the carrots! I added honey too, great as a side dish!

  49. User avatar felipe.dietrich says:

    3 stars
I thought it was okay, but kinda plain. Woulda prefered some chili flakes.

  50. User avatar NAFO.SUPREMACY says:

    1 star
Air fryin?! Sounds complicated. Can I just boil ’em?

  51. User avatar Genghis Khan says:

    4 stars
I forgot the thyme and they still turned out fine. Maybe I’ll try again.

  52. 3 stars
Can I use baby carrots instead? Will they work? Asking for a friend.

    1. User avatar leif.hudson52 says:

      5 stars
Definitely! Baby carrots will work fine. Just adjust the cooking time a bit since they might cook faster. Good luck!

  53. User avatar madlyn.ullrich67 says:

    5 stars
These are so good! The garlic powder really makes a difference.

  54. User avatar phoebe.ward63 says:

    4 stars
I’m skeptical about air-fried carrots getting “slightly crispy,” but honestly… yeah. Shaking halfway through really matters. Good recipe.

  55. User avatar willena.grimes says:

    5 stars
Delish! They were crispy on the outside and soft inside. Perfect!

    1. User avatar christiana.monahan40 says:

      3 stars
They look good but I dunno about air frying carrots. Isn’t steaming them healthier? Anyway, each to their own.

    2. 5 stars
So happy to hear that! I love the air fryer for making veggies crispy without too much oil. Gonna try this recipe tonight! 😍

  56. User avatar ali.nienow1994 says:

    2 stars
Carrots are too much work to prepare. I like them raw. 🥕

    1. User avatar verda.swift1971 says:

      4 stars
But they taste so good when cooked! Give it a try! 😋

  57. User avatar stefan.berge says:

    4 stars
Really simple and delicious! My kids loved them. Going to make this again for sure!

  58. User avatar lashawnda.wilderman says:

    4 stars
Just a couple of ingredients but so delicious! I’m definitely making these again.

  59. 4 stars
I was skeptical about air-frying carrots but wow. Shaking halfway really helps. Next time I’ll cut them a touch thinner for more char.

  60. User avatar virgilio.trantow28 says:

    2 stars
380°F seems a little low? I feel like carrots need higher heat to crisp. Mine were tasty but not crispy enough for me.

    1. User avatar latarsha.gislason1980 says:

      4 stars
I get what you mean, but 380°F is pretty standard for air-fryer veg. If yours weren’t crisp, I’d try cutting them a bit thinner and cooking a few extra minutes (or adding 1 tsp oil and shaking more aggressively).

    2. User avatar Flame Atronach says:

      4 stars
Huh, mine always come out crispy at 380. Maybe your carrots were too thick or crowded? Also I forgot to shake once and they were all soft. Try single layer for real.

  61. 4 stars
Wasn’t sure about the thyme, but it really adds to the flavor. Will make this again!

    1. User avatar thora.walsh says:

      5 stars
Thyme is great! Adds a nice herbal taste. Glad you liked it!

  62. User avatar America Gislason says:

    3 stars
Carrots are good. But why not just throw them in the microwave, huh?

  63. 5 stars
5 stars for how easy it was to make! Just toss and cook, can’t beat that.

  64. User avatar roselee.moen says:

    2 stars
1 teaspoon garlic powder feels like a lot? I used less and it was still flavorful. Wouldn’t hate it, but not mind-blowing.

  65. User avatar marguerite.mueller93 says:

    2 stars
These carrots are way too oily. Less oil next time!

    1. User avatar Falmer Warmonger says:

      3 stars
Nah, I disagree. Carrots need oil to taste good! It’s not too oily, just right!

    2. 4 stars
I actually found them perfect! Oil brings out the flavor. Maybe try a different recipe next time?

  66. User avatar claire.bergstrom says:

    2 stars
I don’t think air frying carrots works. They turned out mushy.

    1. 4 stars
I had the same issue at first! Make sure not to overcrowd the basket; it can make them mushy. Try shaking more often too!

  67. User avatar armando.jerde50 says:

    3 stars
Carrots are good and all, but why not try with ranch dressing? Dipping sauce changes everything!

  68. User avatar shantel.cremin says:

    5 stars
Wow. That garlic + thyme combo is legit. I’m stealing this as my go-to veggie side. 10/10.

  69. User avatar refugio.bahringer66 says:

    4 stars
Pretty good! Mine needed the full 20 minutes to get tender, but once they did, the flavor was great. Would add a squeeze of lemon next time maybe.

    1. 5 stars
Good to know about the full 20 minutes—my air fryer runs hot so I was guessing. Lemon squeeze sounds like a great upgrade!

    2. User avatar kasie.zemlak1992 says:

      3 stars
I tried these and they were kinda bland? Maybe my garlic powder is old. Also 380 seems low, should’ve been 400. Still, air frying is convenient.

  70. 1 star
Waste of time. They were still hard inside! My air fryer might be broken? Not happy.

    1. 4 stars
Maybe you didn’t cook them long enough? My carrots turned out great. Try again!

  71. 3 stars
Not bad, but mine dried out a bit. Maybe my carrots were too thin or I forgot to shake. Still tasty though, just less juicy than expected.

  72. 2 stars
I’ve never used an air fryer before. Can someone tell me if I can just roast them instead? 🤷‍♂️

  73. User avatar kelly.anderson says:

    5 stars
Turned out super crispy on the edges and tender inside—exactly how I like carrots. The garlic + thyme combo is nice without being overpowering.

  74. 4 stars
I followed the steps exactly, but mine were a little too soft after 20 minutes—next time I’ll try closer to 15 and cut thinner sticks.

    1. User avatar norman.kris65 says:

      5 stars
Totally makes sense—carrot size and your air fryer’s power can vary a lot. I’ve had the same thing happen. Going closer to 15 min and thinning the sticks (or even spacing them out better) usually fixes it. Great adjustment!

    2. User avatar eliseo.flatley98 says:

      3 stars
Mine were always soft too. Maybe 380 is too high? Also I didn’t preheat one time and they came out different, so… idk. I’d try 400 and less time? 🤷

  75. User avatar mason.koss45 says:

    5 stars
Made these tonight—so easy and the carrots actually got that nice little snap. I used a tiny bit more thyme and it was perfect.

  76. 5 stars
Made these tonight and they came out sweet and nicely caramelized. Shaking halfway definitely helps—mine were crisp on the edges but still tender.

  77. User avatar alleen.marvin61 says:

    4 stars
Good snack idea! I added a pinch of chili flakes and it gave them a nice kick. Would make again for sure.

  78. User avatar celsa.batz62 says:

    1 star
Carrots are boring. Even in an air fryer it’s still just carrots. 1 star.

  79. 3 stars
Not bad, but 380°F seems high? Mine started browning fast and I had to lower the temp halfway. Also, I couldn’t taste the thyme much.

    1. User avatar filiberto.hammes41 says:

      4 stars
I’ve noticed 380°F runs a bit hot depending on the air fryer—mine browns early too. Lowering halfway definitely helps. Next time I’ll try closer to 360–370°F and check at 12 minutes.

  80. 2 stars
Carrots are supposed to be healthy, but they ain’t tasty if you ask me. 😒

    1. User avatar fidel.hansen0 says:

      4 stars
I get that! Carrots can be a bit bland, but try roasting them with spices. That helps a lot! 😊

  81. User avatar ralph.schulist19 says:

    5 stars
    Yum!

    1. User avatar phuong.breitenberg says:

      4 stars
Yum indeed, but 380°F seems kind of low to me… I did 400 once and they burned, so maybe I’ll trust the timing. How crunchy do yours get?

    2. User avatar jan.mills17 says:

      5 stars
Yesss! Air-fried carrots get so caramel-y without all the mess. I usually bump it closer to 20 min for extra crisp 😋

  82. User avatar frederica.skiles says:

    5 stars
So easy and honestly super tasty—mine got nicely caramelized after the 18-minute mark. I added a tiny squeeze of lemon on top and it really popped.

  83. User avatar denver.larson83 says:

    2 stars
I followed the recipe exactly but they turned out mushy. Maybe my air fryer is not good?

  84. User avatar Chanell Adams III says:

    2 stars
380°F seems high? I did 350°F and they were softer than crispy. Maybe that’s user error, idk.

  85. User avatar tissues_with_issues says:

    4 stars
I used regular pepper (not freshly ground) and it was still great. Also, the bowl toss step is key.

  86. 3 stars
I tried these but forgot the garlic. Tasted ok, but I think it would be better with it. 😅

  87. User avatar lesley.medhurst69 says:

    2 stars
Ok but like… carrots need a sauce. This is just dry-ish sticks unless you dip them in something.

    1. User avatar prairie dog says:

      4 stars
I get what you mean, but these actually come out lightly glazed from the olive oil + seasonings. If you want “sauce,” a quick dip (ranch, yogurt, tahini, or even a garlic aioli) works way better than drowning them.

  88. 5 stars
These carrots turned out AMAZING! I never thought air frying could make them so crunchy. Will definitely make again!

    1. User avatar shaina.bins88 says:

      5 stars
I totally agree! Air frying really brings out the best in veggies. Can’t wait to try it myself!

  89. User avatar august.okuneva31 says:

    4 stars
I was skeptical about the time, but 15–20 min is actually right. Next time I’ll add a tiny pinch of paprika for color.

  90. User avatar kenny.abshire17 says:

    5 stars
These carrots turned out amazing! I love the air fryer! 😍

  91. User avatar josiah.lemke59 says:

    3 stars
Not bad, but I think I needed to season them more. Next time, add some honey!

  92. User avatar vergie.renner says:

    2 stars
I think the garlic powder burned a little? It got darker than the carrots. Maybe I’m doing something wrong with the seasoning mix.

  93. 2 stars
Eh, kind of bland. Not sure if it was my air fryer or the recipe, but I expected more.

Wasn’t too bad but I agree… needed more flavor. Also, I don’t think garlic powder is enough for carrots. 🍽️

    2. 5 stars
I found them to be really tasty! Maybe your air fryer is off? I love how easy this recipe is!

  94. 5 stars
Loved the garlic! Yummy! Even my grandma would approve!

  95. 3 stars
I tried this with baby carrots and it didn’t crisp like I expected. Probably need sticks or smaller pieces—still tasty though.

Okay so I used fresh garlic instead of garlic powder (oops) and it kinda burned. But when I did it properly with garlic powder again, it was way better.

    1. User avatar lorrie.zemlak73 says:

      5 stars
Haha that’s actually super common—fresh garlic can burn fast in the air fryer. Glad garlic powder worked better though!

I followed it pretty closely, but I think my carrots were thicker. Took more like 24 minutes and they still weren’t as crispy as I hoped.

    1. User avatar sunni.okeefe32 says:

      5 stars
Yeah, thicker carrot sticks totally need more time. 24 min makes sense—next time try cutting them a bit thinner, or add 2–4 minutes and keep shaking every 5–6 minutes. Also make sure they’re not crowded in the basket or they’ll steam instead of crisp.

    2. User avatar josefa.yost1997 says:

Maybe your air fryer just runs cool? Mine always takes 10-12 min at 380, so 24 is wild lol. Did you use frozen carrots by mistake? Or did you oil like… a lot? Crispiness seems more about not overcrowding than time.

  98. 5 stars
These came out perfectly—carrots were sweet and a little crispy on the edges. Followed the time (mine took closer to 18 min) and they didn’t dry out at all.

My dog loved them more than I did! 🐶

Yum! I was skeptical but these were a hit at dinner. Thanks for sharing!

I followed the temps/timing and they browned pretty well. Next time I’ll cut the sticks a tiny bit thicker so they don’t go from “crispy” to “too done” so fast.

  102. User avatar Bowerick Wowbagger says:

Not sure about air fryer timing… I cooked for 18 mins and they were still kinda crunchy. Maybe my air fryer runs cold? Either way, pretty tasty.

  103. User avatar lelah.schroeder says:

So easy and way better than roasted carrots I’ve made before. Next time I’ll do a tiny bit more garlic powder but overall spot on.

  104. User avatar Michael83 says:

Good flavor, but mine were still a bit too firm at 15 minutes. I added 5 more and then they were right. Worth it, just watch the timing.

  105. 4 stars
Simple and tasty. Next time I’ll add a tiny pinch of paprika for some color and smokiness.

  106. User avatar CTRLplusW says:

Not bad but a bit bland. I might add more spices next time.

These are good, but I added honey after cooking and now it’s basically candy carrots 😂

😂 Candy carrots is the move though. Honey after cooking makes them caramelize a bit—sounds delicious!

Air fryer carrots are underrated. This is now my go-to side—pairs with everything.

    1. User avatar King of Red Lions says:

Totally agree—air fryer carrots are amazing. I like them with roasted chicken or even on tacos. The crispy bits are the best!

The measurements are simple, but “to taste” salt and pepper always trips me up. I probably under-seasoned, still decent.

    1. 5 stars
Totally get that—“to taste” is where seasoning guesses start lol. I usually start with just a pinch more salt than I think, then adjust after the first 5 minutes, because air fryers make flavors taste a bit muted. Glad yours was still decent though!

I tried this and somehow they burnt… like legit dark. I forgot to shake the basket halfway and didn’t watch the last few minutes. My fault.

Air fryer veggies always come out better than oven for me. Slightly crispy edges are the whole point, right?

  112. User avatar thad.steuber says:

    3 stars
Not bad, but I think 1 tsp salt is too much for “to taste” unless you’re really into salty veggies. I used less and it was better.

  113. User avatar cory.labadie31 says:

Mine stuck to the basket a little even though I used oil. Maybe I should line it with parchment next time.

  114. User avatar miquel.legros41 says:

I did 25 minutes because my air fryer runs hot and they were kinda burnt 😅 Still edible, but not my best batch.

    1. User avatar judson.metz says:

      5 stars
Maybe you just needed lower temp? Like 350°F. Also, I always shake but also flip them—otherwise some sides burn. Still glad they were edible though!

    2. User avatar stacey.feil55 says:

      4 stars
Oof, 25 min definitely sounds like a little too long—air fryers can be so inconsistent 😅 Next time maybe start checking at 15-17 and pull them as soon as they look golden.

These are the best carrots I’ve ever made! So crunchy and tasty, my kids loved them!

  116. User avatar ShanksOnePiece says:

380°F is way too hot for carrots—should be lower so they caramelize slowly. I think the recipe rushed it. Ended up a little browned but not sweet.

Super simple and the seasoning is spot on. I added a tiny pinch of smoked paprika and it tasted like something from a restaurant. Will do again.

The garlic powder smell is amazing. I used a bit less salt and it still tasted great. Will make again!

  119. User avatar theo.mills70 says:

So easy—my carrots came out sweet and nicely browned. I did 18 minutes and shook at 10, perfect texture.

    1. User avatar Eddie the Computer says:

Nice! I’ve been afraid air fryer carrots would turn out mushy, but your timing sounds spot on. I’ll try 18 min next time and shake at 10 like you did.

👌 Great recipe! Just a little salt needed for flavor.
